Where I shop…

Cake Art Party Store! I started going here about two years ago when the baking and cake decorating bug bit me. When I first walked in, I was overwhelmed. Actually, I’m still overwhelmed. There’s so much stuff I don’t know… don’t even have a clue about… but I feel like I learn something new every single time I visit. Unfortunately, I can’t do that very often because this store makes me spend money.

Cake Art Party Store

Like on these things. I’m serious… this place is dangerous. I think I get a sugar high or something when I walk in … my heart starts racing … I start picking random stuff up. And when I get home, bags full… I’m like, what just happened.

Cake Art Party Store

But, when you see all these… in one place. You start thinking… do I have enough yellow sprinkles. I can’t remember. Okay, get some more and get some blue ones, and red ones while you’re at it.

Cake Art Party Store

And then, you start thinking that you can’t live without blue teddy bear sprinkles or green palm tree sprinkles, or pink pigs. And what if someone has a baby… I need those baby sprinkles or wait, boys like cupcakes… what about helmet and football sprinkles. You see where I’m going. Let’s just say that I have accumulated my fair share of sprinkles.

The funny thing is … I hardly ever use them on cupcakes or cakes. It just makes me feel good knowing I have them just in case. I know … weird! But, they do come in handy when it comes to decorating cake pops, so that’s how I justify it.

Cake Art Party Store

You can even buy them in bags!

Cake Art Party Store

Here’s something I’ve never tried… and I think I’ll leave for the pros… Airbrush! Pretty colors, though.

Cake Art Party Store

Speaking of colors… did you know you can buy rolled fondant that is already tinted?

I started doing this recently with red fondant because it is seriously a pain to tint it yourself and get it a deep red color.

Cake Art Party Store

Now, a lot of people don’t like the taste of fondant, they just like the look of it from a visual perspective. So, if you just want to experiment, then play around and buy it pre-made. Just don’t get this much. You can stick with the 1 pound packages.

Or if you really want, make some from scratch. I hear marshmallow fondant is pretty good.

Cake Art Party Store
Anyone need 25 lbs of buttercream frosting?

Cake Art Party Store

Or tinted buttercream?

Cake Art Party Store

Not me. I like to make my own buttercream and tint it myself. Yummy!

Cake Art Party Store

Need some petit four icing? Just snip the tip and go. Great for beginners.

Cake Art Party Store

Marzipan… I haven’t dabbled in this stuff yet, but I do like saying the name. Marzipan!

Cake Art Party Store

Check this out! This might just be the best part of the store. Pans! Round ones, oval ones, heart-shaped ones, square ones! And in graduated sizes, too! And different heights! Help me, please.

Cake Art Party Store

Tools. I love tools. Offset spatulas and flat spatulas. Thank you.

Cake Art Party Store

Inside these little trays are every decorating tip you can think of and some you can’t. Grab some disposable bags and couplers and you’re set.

Cake Art Party Store

There’s so much stuff in the store that you can miss little things like this. Petal dust and luster dust… I think I’m in love. Now, I just have to figure out what to do with it.

Cake Art Party Store

Need to stack a big cake? Sorry, I can’t help you… haven’t done that.

Cake Art Party Store

Mine are little and usually just end up on cake boards like these.

Cake Art Party Store

And sometimes, they get put in cake boxes. I love cake boxes. Especially the tiny ones.
Little cakes in little boxes are just the cutest!

Cake Art Party Store

Need some party supplies? They have that, too.

Cake Art Party Store

Baking cups for boys and girls.

Cake Art Party Store

Tons and tons of plastic cake toppers. I’ve never bought anything down this aisle…

Cake Art Party Store

But, this one made me laugh so hard, I almost bought it for a Mother’s Day cake. Then, I pictured myself on Cake Wrecks and stopped myself. :)

Cake Art Party Store

Father’s Day is around the corner, though…

Cake Art Party Store

Almost done… hang in there. Cookie cutters are always fun to have.

Cake Art Party Store

And so are these. I have this set of dual sided graduated cutters. I love them and they come in super handy when I make fondant covered cupcakes.

Cake Art Party Store

Gadgets galore! I can’t stand in this section too long because my pantry just isn’t big enough.

And guess what… that’s just the half of it. Actually, the 1/8th of it. I wish I could show you everything.
Coming soon… candy stuff!

Hope you guys liked looking at all that stuff and thanks Cake Art for letting me show everyone that there’s a much bigger cake world than the 9 inch cake pans I used to buy in the grocery store. And guess what guys… most of it’s easier than you think.

  4. Oh, my!!! We NEED a shop like that in Spain. NOW. Envy kills me.

I’m looking for some kind of conffetti I can use to get a conffetti cake. I’ve tried lots of thing but nothing works properly. I think this shop is like paradise, better to go shoping and forget your VISA at home. It looks so dangerous…

  5. It’s probably a good thing that store is no where near me because I might go crazy (somehow online shopping is easier to keep me from tempting buys)…I’d love sprinkles though. My favorite kitchen gadget is my new kitchenaid mixer (i’ve been wanting one for 10 years!!! and finally got one for mother’s day).

Would loved to shop here :oD

And Marzipan is really fun to “play” with, use it when I make norwegian cream cake. Use a whith cake, fill it with vanilla custard, strawberry jam, and cover it with whipped cream, before covering it all with a lid of marzipan!

I’m pretty new at baking, so when it comes to baking tools, I really don’t have that many… Out of the few I have though, my favourite would have to be the set of measuring spoons. I’m not sure how I ever managed without them before.

My favorite tool has to be my frosting bags/tips my brother got me 2 christmases ago. Never got to use them until this year and they’re WONDERFUL. Used them for frosting a prop cake for a prod II film, as well as frosting my moms mother’s day cupcakes.

  17. My favourite baking tool are silicone pans. I love them. I wish here in Italy we had all these decorations!

I love sprinkles too, but I am stuck buying them at a little cake store over 40 minutes from my house or a Michaels or Joann Fabrics (believe it or not). I would love some butterfly sprinkles or something very summer-like – suns perhaps. Princess sprinkles are always a hit in my house since I have a 3 year old.

    jenndele@comcast.net

  25. hmmm, my favorite baking thingee…right now, it’s got to be these nested melamine mixing bowls i bought at williams-sonoma. omg, they’re so much lighter (and less breakable) than the glass bowls i had been using.

  49. My fav baking tool is my spring form pan I have then in all sizes

  50. oh my, oh my, oh my!!! I think I have died and gone to heaven. I moved to FL 3.5 yrs ago and there are NO cake/candy supplies stores anywhere that I can find. hmmm, I guess one of my fave items is actually unflavored dental floss – makes cutting cake squares super easy!! I love sprinkles too, and not that I use them much either, but would love those little palm trees, oh – or some that look like buttons??

  51. I would love to make a trip to this store!!!!!

  52. I could not live without my offset spatula and cake turntable! That store looks like bad news for me, I would go broke! Thanks so much for sharing :)

  53. Oh, boy. I think I’m drooling. That looks like such a fun store. I think I can already hear my bank account (and husband) crying. =)

  54. How funny! I’m a sprinkle-a-holic too! I used to decorate cakes at a Baskin Robbins (great way to get FAST at icing and decorating because you only have about three minutes to decorate an ice cream cake). I used to by sprinkles and sanding sugars in bulk (like a couple pounds at a time). just today I found the cutest bottles at a local garden store in the clearance isle. They’re half-rounds with flat sides. My sprinkled look cute in them that I think i’m going back and buying the rest of what they had left. I’ll send a picture when they’ve made their trip through the dishwasher and are filled. Just too cute! =-)~ thanks for the “eye candy” missi (wishingstarr@centurytel.net)

  55. What a wonderful store to shop in!!

  60. Oh those sprinkles are so cute!

  61. Oh Bakerella, I am GREEN with envy. You don’t know how lucky you are to have a hsop like that! Here in Paris, the pickings are slim – you see the same 4-5 bottles of sprinkles in every supermarket ane even the specialty baking stores don’t carry much more than a few sad-looking (and often stale) assortment bottles from Wilton’s.

I a am a sprinkles whore and if I had a store like that here, you can bet your bottom dollar I would go broke on all those lovely quins, pearls, sprinkles, glitter, etc!

  62. I have been looking for some candy cane sprinkles for the festive season! I have had red and green Christmas trees, but think that candy canes would be adorable! I live in the UK and we just don’t get shops like this, I am so very jealous!

I would love to find some plain round balls (colors, metallics, etc).

  76. That store is GREAT!! I think anyone who enjoys baking even a little would get overwhelmed and over indulgent in a store like that!! ;o)
My fav things are my mini baking items!!!

    anderson_k03@hotmail.com

  78. That store is amazing! Favorite baking supply is my scoop I use for chocolate-chip cookies!

    http://amybradmartin.blogspot.com/

  83. My favorite baking/decorating tool has got to be my new piping bag set – reusable polyurethane bag and 9 tips, that I’m currently learning all the uses for.

I always have that ‘store makes me spend money’ problem at Kitchen Stuff Plus. Went in for an apron one day and ended up spending fifty bucks on utensils!

    greenknight1717@hotmail.com

  84. Whoa… I had no idea those places existed AND online! You are going to get me in serious trouble. lol

My favorite tool believe it or not is my wilton spatula. It’s 2 sided one side is bigger than the other and I believe it is made of silicone. It also functions as a scraper and it’s sides are contoured like a bowl. So I can scrape the cake batter straight from the mixer and get every single drop of it out. I can flip it over and then take out say, all the icing from a container (store bought or my own). It gets right in the crannies. I love it!

    Now on to the link!

  85. What a fun giveaway! I just got my first big cupcake baking job and these might come in handy!

  86. I want that store. All of it. It is a good thing that I am nowhere near it and can just enter this instead :)

  87. Oh. My. Gosh. I am so jealous. I’m considering the drive from MO to GA, just for that store! My favorite tool is the filler tip–I’ve been putting all kinds of jams and cream fillings in my cupcakes!

    Here’s my e-mail address, in case I win: hutsell.w@gmail.com

    ~Whitney

I would love to have sprinkles as I have 6 nieces and nephews 9 and under.

  93. That store looks amazing! I haven’t seen anything like it! My must have is marshmallow fondant. It is the only fondant I like using, because it is easy to make and tastes a lot better. My only complaint is that it is hard to get the really rich colors.

  94. I love my Pampered Chef Easy Accent Decorator. But, I think I might need some sprinkles to go on top. Holy cow! LOL!

  95. I love my bakeware! Offset spatulas are another favorite!

  103. Oh my goodness. I’m salivating.

    Right now I’m a poor college student so all I have is a 9 x 13 glass pyrex baking dish… I’m so ashamed… :(

The tool I use the most is my little cookie scoop:)

  108. Can you hear me crying all the way across the continent because I don’t have this store? Please send me some sprinkles! My favorite tool is my marble rolling pin!… or maybe the holder it sits in because it’s so heavy it rolls off every surface!

  109. I could live in that store! How I wish we had something like that where I live. My mom has a collection of Wilton decorating tips and I treasure them!

    irina.sagarbarria(at)gmail(dot)com

  110. I love your site!!! My favorite baking tool are my cupcake pans. I have 7 of them. 2 mini, 2 jumbo and 3 regular size. I love them for cupcakes, muffins, mini quiches, molding things the skies the limit. I love cupcakes!!!

  111. i love to use frosting to decorate cakes so my favorite tool would have to be the disposable bags for frosting.
this store is amazing! do you know if there’s anything like this in the los angeles area?

  112. I love my spatulas. All of them but mostly the smallest one. Great for perfect tiny details.

Btw, I love working with marzipan. I allways put at least 30% marzipan in fondant covers. They taste so much better. I do covers in 100% marzipan too. With some training you can do a 1/8″ thick covers to cakes.

  113. wowww I’m drooling just looking at all this stuff! I love the tree sprinkles!! I’m going to sound nerdy, but my favorite thing to have when I’m baking is my spatula bc it just makes all the difference between a beautiful cake and a sick-nasty one (I’ve made a lot of sick-nasties! just ask my roommates or my brothers – they still eat them of course ;) )

  118. I wish we had a store like that around here! My favorite baking tool is my KITCHEN AID! I do everything with that.

  122. What an great store! I could get in trouble there too. I didn’t even know there were so many different kinds of sprinkles. I’m used to the limited selection of five or so at the grocery store.

  123. Oh what a fun store! I think I would buy out all the sprinkles too just to have them in the cupboard! That’s been the big obsession for me and my girls lately.

  129. I love my cookie scooper thing that I don’t really know the name of. It works like an old fashioned ice cream scoop but is in small sizes perfect for cookies, meatballs, cake pops . . .

  130. I have to tell you.. that making your own fondant is actually really easy, and it does taste GREAT!! Its so nice to see clients actually eating an entire piece of cake, or cupcake without peeling a layer of yucky fondant off first! and just so you know, im a newbie at this whole thing, so if I can do it.. so can you!!

  135. I may just have to make a trip to GA (in a big ole van so I can haul it all back). I can just see you now, staring at all those sprinkles, trying to figure out wht they can become on a Cake Pop. My favorite tool…I just discovered silicon pans. I resisted because I thought they were a fad? Long time tool…offset spatula. Works for everything including PBJ sandwiches.

  136. Baking was never the same after I got my Silpat — the best ever addition to my kitchen!!! If you’re a bread baker and you don’t have a Silpat then you need to get one today (http://www.silpat.com/).

  137. My favorite tool is my mixer… does that count!? I had been pining for one for the looongest time and used to have to beat most of my stuff by hand. This Winter my mom and I just bought one for ourselves. It’s wonderful :D

  152. Though I don't really use sprinkles in baking, I love them in ice cream. I'm picky when it comes to sprinkles, too. It's hard to find the nice & soft ones in the grocery stores. Once I had DQ order me a 5 lb. box b/c their sprinkles are truly the best!

  153. I recently got some new eight and nine inch round cake pans after using seriously vintage ones for years and they’re amazing! Nothing sticks and they’re heaven to clean.
