Where I shop…

Cake Art Party Store! I started going here about two years ago when the baking and cake decorating bug bit me. When I first walked in, I was overwhelmed. Actually, I’m still overwhelmed. There’s so much stuff I don’t know… don’t even have a clue about… but I feel like I learn something new every single time I visit. Unfortunately, I can’t do that very often because this store makes me spend money.

Cake Art Party Store

Like on these things. I’m serious… this place is dangerous. I think I get a sugar high or something when I walk in … my heart starts racing … I start picking random stuff up. And when I get home, bags full… I’m like, what just happened.

Cake Art Party Store

But, when you see all these… in one place. You start thinking… do I have enough yellow sprinkles. I can’t remember. Okay, get some more and get some blue ones, and red ones while you’re at it.

Cake Art Party Store

And then, you start thinking that you can’t live without blue teddy bear sprinkles or green palm tree sprinkles, or pink pigs. And what if someone has a baby… I need those baby sprinkles or wait, boys like cupcakes… what about helmet and football sprinkles. You see where I’m going. Let’s just say that I have accumulated my fair share of sprinkles.

The funny thing is … I hardly ever use them on cupcakes or cakes. It just makes me feel good knowing I have them just in case. I know … weird! But, they do come in handy when it comes to decorating cake pops, so that’s how I justify it.

Cake Art Party Store

You can even buy them in bags!

Cake Art Party Store

Here’s something I’ve never tried… and I think I’ll leave for the pros… Airbrush! Pretty colors, though.

Cake Art Party Store

Speaking of colors… did you know you can buy rolled fondant that is already tinted?

I started doing this recently with red fondant because it is seriously a pain to tint it yourself and get it a deep red color.

Cake Art Party Store

Now, a lot of people don’t like the taste of fondant, they just like the look of it from a visual perspective. So, if you just want to experiment, then play around and buy it pre-made. Just don’t get this much. You can stick with the 1 pound packages.

Or if you really want, make some from scratch. I hear marshmallow fondant is pretty good.

Cake Art Party Store
Anyone need 25 lbs of buttercream frosting?

Cake Art Party Store

Or tinted buttercream?

Cake Art Party Store

Not me. I like to make my own buttercream and tint it myself. Yummy!

Cake Art Party Store

Need some petit four icing? Just snip the tip and go. Great for beginners.

Cake Art Party Store

Marzipan… I haven’t dabbled in this stuff yet, but I do like saying the name. Marzipan!

Cake Art Party Store

Check this out! This might just be the best part of the store. Pans! Round ones, oval ones, heart-shaped ones, square ones! And in graduated sizes, too! And different heights! Help me, please.

Cake Art Party Store

Tools. I love tools. Offset spatulas and flat spatulas. Thank you.

Cake Art Party Store

Inside these little trays are every decorating tip you can think of and some you can’t. Grab some disposable bags and couplers and you’re set.

Cake Art Party Store

There’s so much stuff in the store that you can miss little things like this. Petal dust and luster dust… I think I’m in love. Now, I just have to figure out what to do with it.

Cake Art Party Store

Need to stack a big cake? Sorry, I can’t help you… haven’t done that.

Cake Art Party Store

Mine are little and usually just end up on cake boards like these.

Cake Art Party Store

And sometimes, they get put in cake boxes. I love cake boxes. Especially the tiny ones.
Little cakes in little boxes are just the cutest!

Cake Art Party Store

Need some party supplies? They have that, too.

Cake Art Party Store

Baking cups for boys and girls.

Cake Art Party Store

Tons and tons of plastic cake toppers. I’ve never bought anything down this aisle…

Cake Art Party Store

But, this one made me laugh so hard, I almost bought it for a Mother’s Day cake. Then, I pictured myself on Cake Wrecks and stopped myself. :)

Cake Art Party Store

Father’s Day is around the corner, though…

Cake Art Party Store

Almost done… hang in there. Cookie cutters are always fun to have.

Cake Art Party Store

And so are these. I have this set of dual sided graduated cutters. I love them and they come in super handy when I make fondant covered cupcakes.

Cake Art Party Store

Gadgets galore! I can’t stand in this section too long because my pantry just isn’t big enough.

And guess what… that’s just the half of it. Actually, the 1/8th of it. I wish I could show you everything.
Coming soon… candy stuff!

Hope you guys liked looking at all that stuff and thanks Cake Art for letting me show everyone that there’s a much bigger cake world than the 9 inch cake pans I used to buy in the grocery store. And guess what guys… most of it’s easier than you think.

  1. I think my favorite decorating tool is my big ol’ star tip! I can’t remember which number it is, but it makes lovely swirls on big or little cupcakes and cakes, and makes it easy for me. For baking, other than my KitchenAid mixer, I love my dishers – I have one that’s perfect for mini cupcakes, one that’s perfect for cookies, and one that’s perfect for muffins and regular cupcakes.

  2. My very favorite baking tool woudl probably be my “worn in” cake pan. It just makes better cakes than a new one… who cares what it looks like! :)

  3. always looking for some larger tinted sugar crystals for decorating cupcakes with.

  4. Favorite decorating item: Shaped sprinkles based on the holiday or occasion with colored sugar in the background, on top of buttercream of course!

  5. Oh God, and I thought the Wilton tent sale was intense (sale they have every other summer at their headquarters for three weeks of super-cheap-discount stuff)! I think my favorite baking thing would have to be my eight-quart stainless steel mixing bowl that I got as a gift for Christmas. That, or my flexible cutting boards- they’re wonderful!

  6. Don’t do cake decorating (yet), but love my offset spatula. Makes icing a cake so much easier.
    Love your site.

  7. I’ve been dying for a place like that in Minnesota!!!! I’ve looked and looked and can’t find one. Boo!

I could spend hundreds of $$ there! Oh, man oh man!

    *crosses fingers*

  8. My favorite of all time is definitely my KitchenAid stand mixer…given to me by a dear friend makes it even more wonderful, because I never would have bought one for myself!

    rebecca.gilbreth@gmail.com

  9. Wow….my favorite baking/decorating item….hmmm….it’s probably my Wilton decorator gum. I LOVE that thing! It makes icing cupcakes super quick and easy and I recently discovered how quickly it ices between the layers for multiple layered cakes. That’s my favorite…..although I love decorating with sprinkles as well, so I’d love to win them!

    Jen :)

  10. That store looks amazing!! I couldn’t bake without my offset spatula…that I won from Make n Takes!

  11. Wow, i think for my birthday, i’ll ask for a day in that store, and $300 from my husband.

Do they make “peace sign” shaped sprinkles? that would be really cute!

    -suzie (suziepie@gmail.com)

  12. Wow, this store is incredible, I would go nuts in there. I love pretty stuff for my cupcakes, papers, novelties and who doesn’t love sprinkles. Gadgets and tools are great too. I would have to say, my favorites are my #32 wilton star tip. You can jazz anything up with this, I use it to fill deviled eggs for parties and people go crazy over them, like I slaved over them all day. I also love my clicky ice cream scoop, it measures out the perfect amount of cupcake batter or cookie dough, for perfect uniform cookies every time.
If I ever find myself in GA, I will have to visit Cake Art Party Store :)

  13. Wow that store looks amazing! I don’t get the chance to do a ton of baking but I always make birthday cakes for my kids and use that as an opportunity to try out new techniques. Don’t know that I have an absolute favourite tool, but I love my KitchenAid mixer…it made such a difference in having the confidence to try any recipe with less hassle.

  14. My favorite baking tool would have to be my spoonula. You can stir with it, scrape with it, and smooth surfaces, too!

  15. I LOVE my KitchenAid mixer the most and then my cookie scoop! Thanks for the chance to win! I wish we had a store like that out here in the country!

  16. Oh.my.goodness. You just can’t get sprinkles like that in Australia! I have almost every type of sprinkle that you can buy easily in Australia….which means I have about 5 types.

My favourite baking tool is silicone cupcake holders, because I like to cook LOTS at a time, but don’t have the room in my kitchen for lots of metal pans. I can store 4 dozen in a tiny space! I hunted high and low for the EXACT size cupcake papers for them, and boxes too, since I have to get those cupcakes out of my house before my husband (OK, me) eats them all!

  17. I love mixing bowls of all sizes and colors! I want to visit this store ASAP.

    caitlinhyla at gmail dot com

  18. I haven’t really done any decorating yet….only sprinkles. SO I guess I would have to say sprinkles…

  19. What a COOL store!!! Time to schedule a vacation to GA! ;-)

    favorite tools:
mini batter scoop from Oxo, w/ mini muffin pans, and tart-shaper from PC

    elusive sprinkles:
mini triangles, drama faces, music notes

Thanks for the tour and the offer! :-D

  20. That store looks awesome! I go to one but not nearly has packed with goodies!! You’re in cake supply heaven! I’d love to have sprinkles. I use them for many things including my mini purse cakes! Pick me Pick me!!! Love your site!

  21. My faaavorite decorating items are sprinkles! they just brighten everything up!

    PinkDinoPhoto@yahoo.com

  22. Wow! What an amazing place. I have just started getting into baking and decorating, so I guess that my favoite tool would be my little starter kit (12 Peice Cupcake Decorating Set). I have always wondered what an offset spatula is though.
    Jennifer

  23. I have a thing for sheet pans. Knowing full well that I don’t need anymore, I stare, maybe a little too fondly, at them in the store every time, put a couple in my basket, take two steps forward, two and I put them back. It makes me sad.

    jenniferhemp@msn.com

  24. I like to use my decorator bottle set/tips from Pampered Chef. I, too, like making my own buttercream frosting. Then I usually regret it :) Ha!

    innisl@wdmcs.org

  25. That place looks awesome! I love decorating bags. They’re the greatest. You can do soo much with one. ;o) So what other kind of sprinkle shapes are there?

    email: lifeisscrumptious@yahoo.com

  26. I love my Kitchen Aid mixer and small and medium-sized batter scoops.

    Angie

  27. Wow! What an amazing store!
My favorite baking tool is my off set spatula!

  28. My dream is to find the courage to try fondant decorating….thanks for all your inspiration.

  29. I think I would have to vote for my KitchenAid Mixer. It’s heavy and somewhat awkward, but once it’s set up and ready…we make beautiful desserts together.

  30. I said, “let’s move to the east coast, it’ll be awesome.” And yet here we are, in California and now all I want to do is shop at THAT STORE.

sigh. I’m on a mission to find that in the bay area. Thanks!

  31. Now, why can’t there be a place like that around me! Maybe it’s better this way or else I would be broke, drowning in sprinkles and baking cups (my weakness)

My favorite baking tool… my kitchenaid mixer. I have a very strong, passionate love for my mixer…

    http://threelittleblairs.blogspot.com

  32. Wow, Bakerella, you rule! I wish we had shops like that here in Australia…

But, my favorite is the simple open star 1M tip. Classic, but looks SO good when you use brightly coloured buttercream, and contrasting sprinkles of any size or design, really, or sugar (I like the large crystal sugar).

    thatsagoodmeatball at yahoo dot com

  33. I just love your blog. It’s good to know that there is someone else out there who could get into some REAL trouble in such a store!

I can’t really say what my most favorite baking tool is, how could I choose? It would be like choosing a favorite child. I guess my MOST favorite tool is my kitchen aid–does that count as a tool? Anyway, I just couldn’t do any baking without a good mixer!

    mlesdeals at yahoo dot com

  34. What a fantastic store!
My favorite baking item are those cinnamon flavored Hot Dots. My father and I would eat them by the handful when I was a child, and I love putting one or two of them ontop of my mini-cupcakes for a cute little kick.

  35. Oh my goodness. Those pictures made my pulse quicken and I suck at decorating! I would so be in heaven, though. We love sprinkles and decorations of all kinds in my house. My 2 littles are a little young to help me frost, so they feel special when adding the sprinkles. I love off-set spatulas. I have them in different sizes and they are so handy. I don’t know why I waited so long to buy one!

  36. i wish there was a store like that close to where i live and if there is i wish i knew about it…..and i cant live without my kitchenaid mixer!!!

  37. Holy sprinkles Batman. I need sprinkles. I’m about to move out of my moms so I need to get my own baking supplies!

  38. wow, that is the most amazing shop I have ever seen! I wonder if there’s anything like it in Australia

  39. That store is AMAZING. I didn’t know that tiny plam tree sprinkles existed, but since you told me about them, I now must have them.

  40. That store looks amazing!! My girls and I are getting ready to try making some cupcake pops and we would love some sprinkles!
I’m new to baking, other than cookies… so I don’t really have a favorite tool yet (other than my cookie sheets, lol). I definitely have a wish list going though!

    My e-mail is my3critters@sbcglobal.net

  45. That store must be like heaven! I would have to say my fav baking tool is my mini muffin tin. I use it so much more than my reg. size ones and my cake pans. I use it for so many things in my kitchen. It helps that my kids love the mini sizes of everything that comes out of it too :D

    j_pane04@hotmail.com

  46. That store is so fun!!! I can’t imagine a place like that! And we can’t get enough sprinkles around our house if you ask my two daughters–they’re just too fun!

  47. My favorite baking tool is what I call my “cheesecake mover”: It looks like a GIANT round spatula (or maybe a pizza board, but made out of metal) that I use to lift my cheesecakes off the bottom of their springform pans and onto a plate, cardboard circle, etc. It’s wonderful – before my sister gave it to me for Christmas one year, I was using two large putty knives (they were reserved ONLY for cheesecakes – I didn’t let my hubbie touch them)! Thanks for the fun giveaway!

  48. OMGosh! I live in So. Cali and we have everything, but we don’t have a store like this!I’m seriously jealous! I think my fave baking tool is what my 7 year old son calls a “spootchula” which is a rubber spatula that is slightly concave so you can also scoop the batter out of the bowl, fill your pans and then lick it off!

    amikathryn@sbcglobal.net

  49. My God. I would never have any money left. I just love cute cupcake liners. Those are my favorites!

    Wowzers.

  52. Oh, wow! That is one amazing store. I know there’s a Wilton shop somewhere in Illinois and now I definitely want to go visit, oooh.

As for the contest, I think my favorite cake decorating accessory is the tip and coupler combo. I have sat for hours at a time just playing around with the different tips and being amazed at the outcome. Haha. I love figuring out how things work, so it’s a natural love.

  64. i love my torter. it fixes my mistakes :)

  65. Wow, how fun!! My favorite baking thing that I own is my cake plate/stand and dome. It’s not fancy but it sure makes my creations look nice displayed on the counter! 88. Hi,

Wow! Fantastic! Would love to go to that store! My favorite is my Miller gingerbread man cookie cutter. It is like my mom’s, and I found it on eBay.

  140. Hello…I’m moving to Georgia…immediately! My favorite tool is my offset spatula.

  141. Well, I loved my cookie scoop until it broke so now I will have to say my mixer. My MIL received it as a gift 34 years ago as a wedding present and it’s still holding strong for me!

  142. Hi bakerella! I love your blog, and I hope I’m lucky enough to score some sprinkles! Keep inspiring!

  145. Wow!!! increíble!!! porqué no hay una tienda como esas aquí en México. Yo quiero todo!!!

I love my kitchen aid and my flower pans… also, I love the baking cups.

  146. Not so much a tool but a product: I am in love with Baker’s Joy. You know the cooking spray with the flour in it already?! I’m crazy for it. :)

    Wow.

Can you tell I’m a little speechless?

About sprinkles- I had no idea there was such a selection! My favorite (and to ‘fess up- probably the only one I’ve actually had experience with!) are colored sugar sprinkles. I like the way they glitter. But it looks like I need to move beyond that world and try out all these other kinds!

  149. I want ladybug sprinkles!!!

There is a place similar (or at least used to be) in Seattle’s Pike Place Market. I used to buy all sorts of color sugar crystals there. They didn’t have nearly all the extra baking stuff, just sprinkles. I LOVE sprinkles!

    MMmmm so many amazing colors!

  151. wow, that store looks amazing!! My favorite baking tool is probably my red tovolo spatula and of course my stand mixer! I’d love to find animal shaped sprinkles :)

  152. Grrr, so jealous of you. I think my favourite thing is also the colored fondant, saves so much time! I do like to make my own marshmallow fondant, it tastes better and its a little more pliable and stays soft instead of cracking like regular fondant.

The tools I cannot do without is….Kitchen Aide Mixer!!!!

  161. My bank account is very lucky that I live far away from that store…Thanks for sharing!

I’d have to say that, even though I’m very new to the world of baking, my favorite decorating item is luster dust. I think it looks lovely and gives a totally new effect when used!

  179. That store is awesome!!! My favorite tools are the cookies cutters my 3 year old boy picked for me for Mother’s Day today. They are totally random (snowman, a shoe, a cupcake, and a snowflake) but I love them because he came up with the idea!

    ktpreusser@sbcglobal.net

  180. Awesome store!!

Got to go with the large offset spatula. Life changer. Or at the very least, frosting changer!

  181. I saw some dinosaur sprinkles once, and never saw them again. But I love all sprinkles!

  182. I don’t like to eat sprinkles but I LOVE the stuff that you can do with them — especially all the cute features on your cake pops. Finding a variety of sprinkles is definetly a challenge ..

  183. Oh my word… I must visit this store. I’m thinking a drive to Georgia is in the works. *nods*

My favorite tool? Since I primarily dabble in cakes, would have to be my large cake leveler. It’s seen me through some pretty awesome cakes.

  184. I love cake pans!!! It is so much easier to make a creative cake when you have a variety of pans!
    blimp_99@hotmail.com

  185. I have GOT to find that store. It would be worth the trip to GA!
I don’t suppose you saw any moon and stars sprinkles or cupcake liners did you?
My favorite baking tool has got to be my wet/dry measuring cup from pampered chef. It was expensive, but I love it. I’ve gone through 3 of them over the years!

Great site…I love the cake pops! Made them last weekend for a Derby party, and they disappeared in about 3 seconds- and this from a family that claims they don’t like red velvet cake. Keep it up!

  186. When I saw the marzipan, my first thought was, “Why do they have polenta at a cake supply shop?” Shows how much I know about cake decorating.

One tool I do like to use when frosting cakes is an off-set spatula. That little off-set makes such a big difference. I have a big one and little one. I have yet to use the little one. Only bought it because it’s cute.

  187. OMG! I wanna go there and get lost!
My must have item is my mini offset spatula, an icers best friend! LOVE it. I love sprinkles and the ultra fine sanding sugar to coat cupcakes and cakes!

  190. Wow, I wish I had a store like that near me! I just made your cake pops for the first time this weekend. You can see my attempt at Ladybug Pops for my daughters upcoming 5th birthday on my blog at http://threechicksandonegrumpydude.blogspot.com/ . I’m going to do bumble bees next. I’d love to win those sprinkles.
    sarah.moss@gmail.com

  191. Omg. I have to move to your town. I must visit that store, repeatedly, every day. I could spend hours in the baking aisle at the grocery store! I can only imagine how long I would spend in that store!

My favorite gadget, if you could call it that, has to be cookie cutters. I’m a sucker for any kind of cookie cutter. No matter if it’s the most random thing on Earth that I can’t actually imagine myself making. I have to have it on the off chance I might someday need to make that crazy random cookie. And then of course I have to top that random cookie with beautiful sprinkles. :)
