Where I shop…

Cake Art Party Store! I started going here about two years ago when the baking and cake decorating bug bit me. When I first walked in, I was overwhelmed. Actually, I’m still overwhelmed. There’s so much stuff I don’t know… don’t even have a clue about… but I feel like I learn something new every single time I visit. Unfortunately, I can’t do that very often because this store makes me spend money.

Cake Art Party Store

Like on these things. I’m serious… this place is dangerous. I think I get a sugar high or something when I walk in … my heart starts racing … I start picking random stuff up. And when I get home, bags full… I’m like, what just happened.

Cake Art Party Store

But, when you see all these… in one place. You start thinking… do I have enough yellow sprinkles. I can’t remember. Okay, get some more and get some blue ones, and red ones while you’re at it.

Cake Art Party Store

And then, you start thinking that you can’t live without blue teddy bear sprinkles or green palm tree sprinkles, or pink pigs. And what if someone has a baby… I need those baby sprinkles or wait, boys like cupcakes… what about helmet and football sprinkles. You see where I’m going. Let’s just say that I have accumulated my fair share of sprinkles.

The funny thing is … I hardly ever use them on cupcakes or cakes. It just makes me feel good knowing I have them just in case. I know … weird! But, they do come in handy when it comes to decorating cake pops, so that’s how I justify it.

Cake Art Party Store

You can even buy them in bags!

Cake Art Party Store

Here’s something I’ve never tried… and I think I’ll leave for the pros… Airbrush! Pretty colors, though.

Cake Art Party Store

Speaking of colors… did you know you can buy rolled fondant that is already tinted?

I started doing this recently with red fondant because it is seriously a pain to tint it yourself and get it a deep red color.

Cake Art Party Store

Now, a lot of people don’t like the taste of fondant, they just like the look of it from a visual perspective. So, if you just want to experiment, then play around and buy it pre-made. Just don’t get this much. You can stick with the 1 pound packages.

Or if you really want, make some from scratch. I hear marshmallow fondant is pretty good.

Cake Art Party Store
Anyone need 25 lbs of buttercream frosting?

Cake Art Party Store

Or tinted buttercream?

Cake Art Party Store

Not me. I like to make my own buttercream and tint it myself. Yummy!

Cake Art Party Store

Need some petit four icing? Just snip the tip and go. Great for beginners.

Cake Art Party Store

Marzipan… I haven’t dabbled in this stuff yet, but I do like saying the name. Marzipan!

Cake Art Party Store

Check this out! This might just be the best part of the store. Pans! Round ones, oval ones, heart-shaped ones, square ones! And in graduated sizes, too! And different heights! Help me, please.

Cake Art Party Store

Tools. I love tools. Offset spatulas and flat spatulas. Thank you.

Cake Art Party Store

Inside these little trays are every decorating tip you can think of and some you can’t. Grab some disposable bags and couplers and you’re set.

Cake Art Party Store

There’s so much stuff in the store that you can miss little things like this. Petal dust and luster dust… I think I’m in love. Now, I just have to figure out what to do with it.

Cake Art Party Store

Need to stack a big cake? Sorry, I can’t help you… haven’t done that.

Cake Art Party Store

Mine are little and usually just end up on cake boards like these.

Cake Art Party Store

And sometimes, they get put in cake boxes. I love cake boxes. Especially the tiny ones.
Little cakes in little boxes are just the cutest!

Cake Art Party Store

Need some party supplies? They have that, too.

Cake Art Party Store

Baking cups for boys and girls.

Cake Art Party Store

Tons and tons of plastic cake toppers. I’ve never bought anything down this aisle…

Cake Art Party Store

But, this one made me laugh so hard, I almost bought it for a Mother’s Day cake. Then, I pictured myself on Cake Wrecks and stopped myself. :)

Cake Art Party Store

Father’s Day is around the corner, though…

Cake Art Party Store

Almost done… hang in there. Cookie cutters are always fun to have.

Cake Art Party Store

And so are these. I have this set of dual sided graduated cutters. I love them and they come in super handy when I make fondant covered cupcakes.

Cake Art Party Store

Gadgets galore! I can’t stand in this section too long because my pantry just isn’t big enough.

And guess what… that’s just the half of it. Actually, the 1/8th of it. I wish I could show you everything.
Coming soon… candy stuff!

Hope you guys liked looking at all that stuff and thanks Cake Art for letting me show everyone that there’s a much bigger cake world than the 9 inch cake pans I used to buy in the grocery store. And guess what guys… most of it’s easier than you think.

  29. This would be a great side trip on any future visit to Georgia! I just discovered your site after Christmas and I love looking at your creations. I have some of the basic Wilton tips and the spatula, but the most valuable thing that I use is my Mother’s recipe for decorator’s icing from when she made wedding cakes.

  30. Oh my. That store.. I’m sure I could spend hours there! All the sprinkles!!!! I seriously, thanks to you, want a sprinkle rack instead of a spice rack!

  36. i need to make a trip from texas just to go there–ruthcarruth@gmail.com

  37. Oh WOW!!! That store looks amazing!! I could spend thousands of dollars there!! I have a cake business, so it’s hard to pick just one favorite decorating item. I am going to go with my Pampered Chef batter scoop … it creates the perfect sized cupcake every time, and is so much easier and cleaner than using a spoon or anything else. Oh … also, I am going to suggest a new product for you to try … it is called pixie dust or disco dust. It comes in the same type of container as petal or luster dust, and it is super sparkly and little girls (and big girls, too!) love it!! I sprinkle it over buttercream or brush it on fondant, and it adds so much sparkle. Love it! I want to win those sprinkles!! :)

  38. I loooove my stainless steel bench knife with measurement markings on the edge. It’s perfect for cutting brownies and bar cookies.
I’m with you on the sprinkle lovin’. They just add an instant shot of cuteness!

    -fantasticdramatic@gmail.com

I have way to many favorite tools but I think my ultimate favorite would have to be my little cookie scoop :)

  41. OH, how i wish that store was close to me!!! I would go broke in there. At this point my favorites are my tips and a zipper bag! I don’t have anything but basic sprinkles here!! Thanks so much.

  42. I love my measuring cups – have to be exact you know!! a.haun@sbcglobal.net

  43. My little ladder, so that my 3 year old can help!

  44. That place looks amazing. I’m not sure I’d ever be able to leave.

I’ve been searching high and low for silver balls. They’re just plain silver balls made of sugar that we used to decorate Christmas cookies when I was younger. I’ve tried just about every store in town and still come up with nothing.

  62. Oh my! Just looking at your pictures made me feel like a kid in a candy store…LITERALLY!! :) My favorite baking baking tool would probably have to be my cookie cutters. I love all the different shapes they come in. I also LOVE to decorate my cookies with various sprinkles, hint, hint. ;)
    -Donna dnavarro1@wi.rr.com

  63. I love cookie cutters, love to buy new ones. I only use them at Christmas time, but I love them.

I wish I could find a sprinkle aisle like the one you have pictured!!

  73. I love pearl dusts. I use it for fondant (and white chocolate) pearls…but I also dust it on molded fancy thingies that I make out of white chocolate – like lace pieces and such. Such a lovely touch. Gold dust works the same way…but I think I like the pearl better.

  76. I’m so jealous! I want a place like that to shop. The variety is unbelievable! I love it all! I could easily spend hours there just browsing all the cool things for decorating cakes and more.

my hubby is probably glad there isn’t such a store nearby.

  77. Gasp, what a place! Oh, I would be in the poorhouse if I lived anywhere near there!

  78. Definitely my pastry blender – not one of those shoddy, substandard ones with wires that collapse when applied to a stiff dough, but the kind with blades cut into a solid sheet of metal. Not only do I use it for pie crusts and cookies, but it also makes absolutely the perfect texture for egg salad – it chops the whites into uniformly small pieces and breaks the yolks up so that they melt into the mayo (chop eggs first, then add dressing).

    Nicole (nbaltmail@gmail.com)

  105. I don’t even know what my favourite tool is cos I’m just starting out!!! I got overexcited just finding different colour muffin cases last week! Sad, eh?!

  106. That’s a mighty impressive baking store! I try to go to the one here in Austin only when I have an actualy legitimate NEED, or I leave with a lot of “nice to haves” – like lots of lovely sprinkles!

  130. De-lurking to enter for sprinkles! I have similar problems at my party store…and on-line! My main weaknesses are cupcake papers and cookie cutters. I kept buying the same cookie cutters so I made a list. My BF suggested I keep it on my ipod so now I can check before I buy. But there are always ones I don’t have yet! Love your blog and your happy enthusiasm!

  131. My favorite “sprinkles” are really dragees. The little silver ones are so elegant… but I love the colored dragees too!!!

  143. WOW! I am headed to Cake Art… TOMORROW. Literally! I’m going! Your post turned my fascination into an obsession!!!

My favorite baking item is actually the neon color dye gels that they sell at any local grocery store. I use them to dye frosting for my cupcakes and then stack my crazy color cupcakes into a cupcake CAKE. They’re adorable! Sometimes I find matching MnMs or candies to make polka dots on the tops of the cupcakes! SO FUN!

    Alyzimbardi@yahoo.com

  144. That store looks like so much fun. I would go crazy in there myself. My favorite baking item is my crown muffin pan. I like how it makes my muffins look like they may have come from a real bakery.

  145. I love sprinkles. Count me in.

  146. OK so the next time I’m in Atlanta I’m going to have to make a detour to this store, it looks AMAZING!!!

My favorite is either my batter scoop which I use all the time or my offset spatula (well all of them ;)) They make icing cakes SOOO much easier even though my husband laughs at them because they look broken in his eyes ;)

I’m running low on fun sprinkles and I’m having a hard time finding them in town since our main bake shop closed :-(

  161. So my favorite thing are the cake stands! Got a beautiful one from my sister for my wedding this past winter, and then with some gift card monies got an adorable one from Crate and Barrel. My husband is so kind to let me indulge.

My favorite kitchen implement is the avacado slicer, although that’s not really a baking thing. I think my favorite baking tool is my mom’s super powerful mixer, which can mix cold stick butter without thinking twice!

  168. You are a genius! Finally people look forward to me bringing a dessert to family functions, rather than trying to guess what in the heck it is that I brought. My favorite tool has got to be my kitchen timer. I know, super simple, but I get too distracted too easily. It keeps me on track without having to start all over because everything is burned. Thanks for all the great ideas. I really hope you picked out some butterfly sprinkles for me!

  177. I love my batter scoop!! I want some sprinkles!!!
    lilchic54@yahoo.com

  178. I’m throwing in my name for the contest! My favorite decorating tool is the piping bag and I love using them for more than just frosting. (I recently made a meatloaf cake and used a bag without the tip for mashed potatoes!) I’m also incredibly jealous that you have a cake art store so close to you. I am reduced to ordering online and looking in craft stores. Boo.

  179. I am just starting to decorate… but my favorite decorations are any colorful sprinkles…but butterfly sprinkles are the best!!!

    boardinprincesa@att.net

  180. I’m constantly disappointed by UK sprinkles compared to what you find. I’d love to find deep purple and/or gold sprinkles so I can make wedding themed cake pops.

  181. Wow, that store is amazing! It sounds like you are addicted to sprinkles like I used to be addicted to scrapbook supplies! At least I’ve gotten out of the habit of BUYING them, I just can’t seem to part with the stuff I have (and don’t use) though.

I can transport all the cupcakes for my daughters’ classes in one container and know that they will arrive looking the same as they did when I left home. And after putting all that time, attention and love into decorating them for the kids I don’t like having to try to fix the ones that decided to flip on their side.
