Where I shop…

Cake Art Party Store! I started going here about two years ago when the baking and cake decorating bug bit me. When I first walked in, I was overwhelmed. Actually, I’m still overwhelmed. There’s so much stuff I don’t know… don’t even have a clue about… but I feel like I learn something new every single time I visit. Unfortunately, I can’t do that very often because this store makes me spend money.

Cake Art Party Store

Like on these things. I’m serious… this place is dangerous. I think I get a sugar high or something when I walk in … my heart starts racing … I start picking random stuff up. And when I get home, bags full… I’m like, what just happened.

Cake Art Party Store

But, when you see all these… in one place. You start thinking… do I have enough yellow sprinkles. I can’t remember. Okay, get some more and get some blue ones, and red ones while you’re at it.

Cake Art Party Store

And then, you start thinking that you can’t live without blue teddy bear sprinkles or green palm tree sprinkles, or pink pigs. And what if someone has a baby… I need those baby sprinkles or wait, boys like cupcakes… what about helmet and football sprinkles. You see where I’m going. Let’s just say that I have accumulated my fair share of sprinkles.

The funny thing is … I hardly ever use them on cupcakes or cakes. It just makes me feel good knowing I have them just in case. I know … weird! But, they do come in handy when it comes to decorating cake pops, so that’s how I justify it.

Cake Art Party Store

You can even buy them in bags!

Cake Art Party Store

Here’s something I’ve never tried… and I think I’ll leave for the pros… Airbrush! Pretty colors, though.

Cake Art Party Store

Speaking of colors… did you know you can buy rolled fondant that is already tinted?

I started doing this recently with red fondant because it is seriously a pain to tint it yourself and get it a deep red color.

Cake Art Party Store

Now, a lot of people don’t like the taste of fondant, they just like the look of it from a visual perspective. So, if you just want to experiment, then play around and buy it pre-made. Just don’t get this much. You can stick with the 1 pound packages.

Or if you really want, make some from scratch. I hear marshmallow fondant is pretty good.

Cake Art Party Store
Anyone need 25 lbs of buttercream frosting?

Cake Art Party Store

Or tinted buttercream?

Cake Art Party Store

Not me. I like to make my own buttercream and tint it myself. Yummy!

Cake Art Party Store

Need some petit four icing? Just snip the tip and go. Great for beginners.

Cake Art Party Store

Marzipan… I haven’t dabbled in this stuff yet, but I do like saying the name. Marzipan!

Cake Art Party Store

Check this out! This might just be the best part of the store. Pans! Round ones, oval ones, heart-shaped ones, square ones! And in graduated sizes, too! And different heights! Help me, please.

Cake Art Party Store

Tools. I love tools. Offset spatulas and flat spatulas. Thank you.

Cake Art Party Store

Inside these little trays are every decorating tip you can think of and some you can’t. Grab some disposable bags and couplers and you’re set.

Cake Art Party Store

There’s so much stuff in the store that you can miss little things like this. Petal dust and luster dust… I think I’m in love. Now, I just have to figure out what to do with it.

Cake Art Party Store

Need to stack a big cake? Sorry, I can’t help you… haven’t done that.

Cake Art Party Store

Mine are little and usually just end up on cake boards like these.

Cake Art Party Store

And sometimes, they get put in cake boxes. I love cake boxes. Especially the tiny ones.
Little cakes in little boxes are just the cutest!

Cake Art Party Store

Need some party supplies? They have that, too.

Cake Art Party Store

Baking cups for boys and girls.

Cake Art Party Store

Tons and tons of plastic cake toppers. I’ve never bought anything down this aisle…

Cake Art Party Store

But, this one made me laugh so hard, I almost bought it for a Mother’s Day cake. Then, I pictured myself on Cake Wrecks and stopped myself. :)

Cake Art Party Store

Father’s Day is around the corner, though…

Cake Art Party Store

Almost done… hang in there. Cookie cutters are always fun to have.

Cake Art Party Store

And so are these. I have this set of dual sided graduated cutters. I love them and they come in super handy when I make fondant covered cupcakes.

Cake Art Party Store

Gadgets galore! I can’t stand in this section too long because my pantry just isn’t big enough.

And guess what… that’s just the half of it. Actually, the 1/8th of it. I wish I could show you everything.
Coming soon… candy stuff!

Hope you guys liked looking at all that stuff and thanks Cake Art for letting me show everyone that there’s a much bigger cake world than the 9 inch cake pans I used to buy in the grocery store. And guess what guys… most of it’s easier than you think.

  5. love love love your blog. Fav decorating item is my “pastry bag” from Williams Sonoma. katherinebal@hotmail.com

  6. My latest obsession is my new donut baking pan! I have been making chocolate cake donuts with sprinkles like it’s going out of style :)

  7. Wow…wish I had a store like that near me! My kids love all the colored sugar sprinkles. We have a ton of them. They like to put their own “glitter” sprinkles on cakes and cupcakes.

  8. I have a box of 100 cookie cutters that I LOVE! Endless sugar cookie possibilities. Now for some sprinkles to decorate….

  9. I’m still learning the art of baking, and so far, my Pampered Chef spatula is the greatest thing in the world when it comes to just about anything!

  10. I’m thinking that store is definitely worth a 4 hour drive! Most recently, I’ve been “messing around” with marshmallow fondant I make myself, so I absolutely LOVE cookie cutters and other tools for that. And of course, my brand new Kitchenaid Pro 600 my mother-in-law surprised me with last week!!

  11. Well this seems like a long shot with how many people have commented, but we’ll give it a go.

I wish this store was in Utah where I live. One Saturday I spent the entire day going from store to store looking for interesting sprinkles to frost cupcakes with.

My favorite baking tool is the thermometer in my oven. I live in an old apartment with an old oven and before I bought the thermometer, I couldn’t get anything to turn out right. Now, every thing works great with my tweaking of the heat according to what the therm. is reading.

    brittanybowen@gmail.com

  12. Parchament triangles! Just toss them, no cleanup (especially with greasy buttercream icing) but I don’t feel as wasteful as using plastic disposable bags.

  13. when I lived in china I was unable to find baking liners – so I have those on hand at all times now!!!!

  14. I love my batter scoop! I use it for more than cookies.

  15. Wow! What a fun giveaway!

love the site! oh and silicups, though i do miss that the cupcakes don’t fit nicely into cute cupcake liners now.
    http://www.thepinkflamingo.blogspot.com

  21. Wow, that store looks aweswome! I would love some sprinkles! I’ve been trying to find a way to show off the ones I’ve got. My daughters like them instead of syrup on their pancakes.

Now to find an excuse to get to GA to check out that store!

  22. I was having flashbacks while I was scrolling thru your post! I used to decorate cakes and do all other kinds of baking, etc when I was in high school and college. That’s how I made extra money. There was a store near wwhere I lived that was only 1/10th the size of this stoore, but how I loved roaming the aisles! And yes I’d come home with who knows what that I just HAD to HAVE! Now, as for my favorite tool, I’d say that would be my offset small spatula. Oh and definitely SPRINKLES!!! Thnaks for the stroll down memory lane. dkavinsky@gmail.com

  23. I love to decorate cookies, cupcakes and cakes and finally took the first Wilton course last year and had a blast. My favorite decorating item is tip #1 because you can do so much with something so simple: dots, lines, lace, etc…

And wow, that store looks AWESOME.

  25. I love my funky shapped cake pans. Like my pirate ship cake pan. Loves it.

  26. who knew there were so many types of sprinkles!! i’m not a very good baker, so i don’t really have any baking tools. i do love my kitchenaid mixer though!

  27. That looks like THE funnest store ever! I wish they had something like that where I live.

  28. I’m in love! We tried making cake pops for the first time Saturday and I wish I had known about this place (and lived on the east coast). AMAZING!
    dana.oakley@gmail.com

  29. I LOVE my Wilton decorating tips. I am fairly new to the whole decorating scene, but every year I try to make my own cake for my kids on their birthday or special holidays.

Oh how I wish we had that store nearby! I bet I could spend hours (and plenty of money too).

    TupperwarebyMel@gmail.com

  30. That store looks amazing! I want to run home right now and bake something!

  39. Oh my word, I didn’t realize this store was within reasonable driving distance of my house. This is bad. Very, very bad.

Anyway, my favorite baking tool is my extra long icing spreader. Prior to finding this gem, I ruined more icing jobs than the law allows. :-)

  40. I love my baking stone!

  41. My mom does the baking. But she lets me decorate. I’d love the sprinkles!
I like using the stand mixer. And I love to use decorating tips.

  52. I love my cupcake fillng tip. It’s long and pointy so you can stab the cupcake and fill it with cream! Yum! I actually got it at CakeArt in Atlana!

  53. WOW I got tears in my eyes just looking at that place…It’s amazing.

I love the plastic icing bags. I have made my own from wax paper triangles and they just don’t do it for me. A close second would be my offset spatula..it just makes me feel like I know what I am doing :)

  54. I could live in that store! I love a good cake pan. I love coming up with all different kinds of cakes. I have just started doing your cake pops. I am loving the cuteness of them!

    jas.n.em @ gmail.com

  55. Wow! It’s probably a good thing I don’t live near that store. It’s amazing!!

hmm.. I think I’d have to go with my offset spatula. It just is so fun to use. Makes things so much less messy.

  56. I think my favorite baking tools are the strips that you soak in water and then wrap around your cake pans to keep the cake level while it bakes. I’ve been inspired by your cake pops, and could sure use a good collection of sprinkles to create with! http://kimberlycharles.blogspot.com

  57. I’m glad we have nothing like that where I live….I wouldn’t have a paycheck left! I love the my cookie cutters-have them for all seasons and my class loves them during the holidays! Would LOVE some sprinkles to add a little flare!

    http://a-day-in-the-life-of-sweet-pea.blogspot.com/

  69. Cake Art is in the town I live in. Its opening is what finally pushed me from thinking I could try to actually trying. I could get lost in there for hours, too. Most of the time spent in there is looking at things I have no intention of buying – I just like looking at it. Weird? I’ve always got my kids with me though so going down the sprinkle aisle is practically impossible.
Since I’m very much a novice and don’t practice often, I’d have to say my favorite tool to date is the grass tip that I used to pipe a mane on my 3-yo’s horse shaped birthday cake. Thanks!

  70. Every since we moved to our new house, I haven’t been able to find my heirloom (honest — it came to me from my great-grandma!) biscuit cutter, so that double-sided graduated set of cutters really caught my eye…

    aaw068@unt.edu

  82. I love the colored fondant, especially the red. I bought white and tried to tint it deep red to make the Valentines candy box cake. I used almost all my coloring and it only came out dark pink so I am all for the precolored red fondant!

And I am glad that store isn’t by me because I would spend a fortune in there.
    dixielegs611@yahoo.com

  83. That place looks awesome.I could lose hours of my life in there!! I feel a roadtrip in my future. As for my most needed tool…toothpicks! Seriously,I can’t tell you how many times those little things have saved me or been just the thing I needed.

    Berrie333@yahoo.com

    Soccer10t@comcast.net

  88. This place is great! I nly wish it was not thousands of miles away from my home. I love to decorate with yummy butter cream and then use some sprinkles from my assorted box. I like pastel colors, but also keep a few primary colors of dinosaurs, teddy bears, etc hanging around.
    Lise ficra@foxisland.net

    drd.wp1@gmail.com

  93. Oh how I love baking supplies. Just looking in a catalog can be overwhelming, going to that store would be a death notice to my bank account.
I love pale pink, but it seems so hard to find nice delicate pink sprinkles and sanding sugars, I’ve been tempted just to get bright ones and leave them out in the sun to fade!
    http://www.thequeenofcakes.blogspot.com

  94. Wow, I want to go shopping with you. That place is amazing. I can’t seem to find simple and pretty sanding sugar anywhere around here.

  95. Wow- who knew? I’d love to get some adorable sprinkles. The ones at Albertson’s are not sufficient.

    http://www.jmsantini.blogspot.com

  96. I like DISHERS! They are the only thing that keeps my cupcakes inside the papers instead of all over the oven floor :)

  97. I love sprinkles and I do use them on cupcakes. My favorite baking tool is my double wall oven.

    cchertkow@hotmail.com

    rora1313@sbcglobal.net

  106. Hmmm, I don’t think i really have a favorite decorating tool.

but if i had to chose something, it’d be the 1″ metal star shaped cookie cutter I got from my Mom in Law, who got if from HER mom, who got it from HER mom…

    }:P

    It’s great for donut holes.

    http://wolfsilveroak.insanejournal.com

  107. That store looks absolutely amazing! I would love to win some sprinkles. I have a bunch of cupcakes to make soon, and sprinkles would be perfect. I have a Pampered Chef cake decorator gun that I love, and it is great to pipe frosting on to cupcakes. Makes them look very professional.

  108. Happiness is parchment paper! Use it to make piping bags, line cake and cookie pans to prevent “stickage” and to smooth cake icing like nobody’s business! Love it! Speaking of love…I LOVE sprinkles too! Send some this way! jnvistoso@gmail.com

  113. My girls can’t have a cupcake without sprinkles and since I make them pretty often I usually buy them every time I go to the store. My husband tells me he needs to make me a cabinet just for the different shapes and colors. LOL! It is almost as bad as my fabric addition. My favorite baking tools have got to be my extra large cookie scoop that I use for making my cupcakes uniform! Love you site!

  114. I have that same problem with baking specialty stores…and for some reason, office supply stores. I can never leave either one empty handed!

  115. That store looks amazing!!! Would love some sprinkles soon~ we have a 7th bday coming up! :o)

  116. Me, me, me!!! I don’t even care what I win!!

  117. My favorite item would be my cake plate to display my goodies after they are finished.

    berglin@wi.rr.com

  118. I don’t think I have a favorite tool. I do have a favorite blog though ;) Thanks for sharing!

  119. Wow, twould be an awesome start to my summer baking season to even think about getting specialty sprinkles. My little brother, a strapping guy of 17 yo, is even excited about decorating our planned pops and cupcakes. ^_^ But I did lose the specific cookie cutters I bought to make cakepops somewhere in the recent move from school to home. -__- Where are they!? I bet you understand my pain…

    triannamaxwell.livejournal.com

    msbon11@comcast.net

  121. wow, maybe i should take a trip to georgia, just to see this store! my favorite tool? heavy ziptop bags…i can knead sticky dough in it, portion ingredients in advance, cut off the corner for an instant pastry bag, or dollop meringues on a cookie sheet!

    betsylynn3@yahoo.com

  122. I love my springform pan! It makes life easier!

    amandacollicker@hotmail.com
    http://sweeturnip.wordpress.com

  123. After having worked as a cake decorator professionally many years ago (before I became a stay at home mom) – I really miss the access to an airbrush system. You can do so many fun and very subtle techniques with them and seeing your photos reminded me of how much I love them!

  124. Why don’t places like that exist where I live? My fav is the off-set spatula. Changed my life.

  125. What a great place!!!
    MMmmmm off-set spatula- very nice!

  126. I could LIVE in that store!! Those sprinkles look so good I could eat them out of the bottles!!

  152. OHHHHH…that store looks DIVINE!!! “Hagel” sugar, it’s German, and the only place we can seem to get it is in Germany, ha. It’s alot like pearl sugar I guess, but not rounded so much.

    http://dormantdreams.blogspot.com

  178. Oh! What inspiration! To have such a store nearby would be too dangerous!!

Favorite: aside from my KA Mixer, I’d have to say fancy cupcake liners. They can add that something extra to a cupcake when I don’t have time or supplies to “Bakerella” them.

  179. I am so glad I found this blog. My middle daughter Jennifer loves to bake and make cakes and cupcakes for all of us. We both have learned so much from here. I would love to win the sprinkles to give to her to use. She would be thriled. Thank you so much for sharing about this amazing store! My daughters favorite tool is her cake displayer that turns. I can’t wait till she gets home today to share this with her. Thank you!

  181. I swear I could hear angels singing as I looked at the pictures of that store! It’s a good thing I don’t know where this place is located or I’d be there every day.

I’d have to say I would be lost without my off-set spatula. I’ve been using the same one for over twenty years.

  182. Those are awesome! Why don’t they have a store like that here???

My fav gadget is the wire cake slicer/leveler. Couldn’t do without it – and for $3, why would you?

  187. That store is AMAZING! Is it crazy that I’d like to drive there all the way from Central Florida? I’d have to say my newest favorite decorator item would be my #3 wilton icing tip. It makes the perfect little eyes on Cake Pops!

BTW- did I mention that today is my birthday? :)

  188. My favorite cooking “tool” is my 2 year old daughter. I call her my little “prep chef” and she loves to help me bake – cookies, cakes, pies, breads, you name it. She sits on the island and helps me pour in the ingredients (she can even crack an egg!) and spreads flour generously around my kitchen. I absolutely love that baking is something we can share together! We definitely need some prissy little girly sprinkles for our next baking session!
