Wedding Cake Pops

Wedding Cake Pops

I’ve received a ton of requests for wedding cake pops so I thought today would be a good time to show you some. Here’s a simple wedding cake shape that you can use and decorate as you desire.

Read the basic instructions for making cake pops, and then use following directions to turn them into miniature wedding cakes.
Wedding Cake Cutters
After you have rolled out the cake balls, use two different size cookie cutters to make the shapes. You can use small cutters like these to shape the cake and frosting mixture.

They’re not too big … the round cutter is about 1 1/2 inches wide and the crinkle cutter is about 1 1/4 inches wide.

Press one cake ball into each mold until the mixture fills up the cookie cutter shape. Remove any excess and you can reuse.

Wedding Cakes

Remove mixture from the cookie cutters carefully so the shape stays intact and place on a wax paper-covered baking sheet.

When you have your shapes made, melt white candy coating per the directions on the package. Apply a thin layer of coating to the bottom of the smaller shaped cake, leaving the center uncoated. (This will make it easier for the lollipop stick to be inserted.)

Then place the small layer on top of the larger layer, coating side down. Press gently and let the candy coating set like glue. Place cakes in the refrigerator to keep chilled before dipping.

When you are ready, dip the tip of each lollipop stick in coating and then insert into the bottom of the cake about halfway. Then dip the wedding cake pop in a small narrow bowl of melted candy coating so that you can dip and remove the entire cake in one motion.

To make sure the coating is fluid enough, you can add some shortening or paramount crystals to help thin it out.

Remove from the candy coating, tap off any excess gently and place a jumbo heart sprinkle on top before the coating sets.

Let dry in a styrofoam block and then attach decorations using more melted candy coating like as glue. You can use sugar crystals, confetti sprinkles or even pipe on details like dots or swirls with more candy coating. You could really go all out with different decorations and colors.

Jumbo heart sprinkles

These jumbo heart sprinkles work out great for the top of the cakes.

Just look how simple and sweet these are.

Wedding Cake Pops

You could give these cake pops for:

  • An engagement party
  • A wedding shower
  • Wedding favors
  • You could even propose with them

Imagine how cute they would be with some sweet little tags.

Okay, forget imagining… let me just show you.

  19. Simply adorable!

Bakerella, please come to Austin to bake with me!

  20. I am trying to make these. How thick should they be? They look really think but I am not sure if I have to fill the whole cookie cutter up with them. I am supposed to make 55 of them and I think it is going to take 3 cake mixes. What do you think. And do you not put the outside of the Yellow cake in the mix when you are breaking it apart?

  21. Love these cake pops! I’m planning on making them for my sister’s wine party. It’ll be my first attempt at making cake pops so hopefully I’m not being too ambitious trying these first :o/ I would love to come up with a cake pop that is wine themed but I’m not creative enough to come up with a good idea.

  22. Did you make the tags, or buy them? Thank you.

  23. I made these this weekend- 75 of them for an engagement party and they came out perfectly – to anyone who is planning to make them or anyone who tried and couldn’t get them to stay on the pops or other issues – I followed every single instruction that Bakerella gives and took a lot of time in between steps to ensure everything was structurally secure. A few things that worked like a charm:
-I did not use the whole can of frosting- I stopped when the mixture was moist enough to stay together – I used 2 cans of frosting for 3 cakes
-freezing made them very easy to form into the tiers
-when I put the two layers together I sealed them just on the outside ring of the top layer just like she suggests so that when you insert the pop stick you aren’t breaking through candy to do that
-I added shortening to the white candy melts to get the liquidity that I needed to dip the pops effortlessly and used a tall skinny vessel to dip them in one motion
-I added the heart on the top after about a minute of drying so it was a little tackier and easy to stand up straight

They were the hit of the party- someone made a toast to me instead of to the couple! Amazing! Thank you!

  24. hi i love the way u helped rich popose to my last year 6 grade teacher that was such a great idea!

  25. Arh cute

  26. Reading this almost a year later…goosebumps and tears. How lucky Melissa is!

  27. Hi! I just made these today (well sort of) for my friend’s bridal shower tomorrow. I just wanted to ask…is there any way a tutorial could be made to watch how these are made in steps? It took me 12 hours to make 35 of these!! I did use fondant instead of melting the candy coating because I thought it’d be easier…maybe that’s why? I really like them, but it just took forever! I also ended up not even putting them on the sticks haha…they’re just cute little wedding cakes.

Thanks :) They did come out really cute though…just A LOT of work!!

  28. I am in the process of making these little darlings…Nervous and anxious about the finished product but I think I am on the right track…..I hope the stars align for me, wish me luck..

  29. Okay I have to ask, How do you make those ADORABLE labels! i can’t wait until your book comes you’re sooo inspiring!

  30. I SOOO LOVE THIS ONE! hahaha and im definitely having some of these on my wedding!!!

  31. this made me cry. so sweet.

  32. My sister is getting married next month, can’t wait to make these for her wedding shower!

  33. Oh my goodness, this gave me chills. How sweetly romantic :)

  34. OMG! I have tears….. Wishing you guys a world of happiness and cupcakes!!!!!

  35. wow! how exciting!

I showed these to a male friend of mine who want to ask his girlfriend of 5 years to marry him. He loved it and has asked me to do this for him. It’s his girlfriends birthday in August and when it’s time for the cake to come out he is going to bring this out instead. I have only 1 question, how did you do the paper cut out around the base. Did you print these and then cut them out? Thankyou for your help! I am so excited!!!!

  36. did you have any trouble with the white candy melts? im not getting a good consistency for dipping. suggestions?

  37. How much would someone sell these for?

  38. Ok, so I know this was posted WAY long ago, but I just read it and almost burst into tears! How adorable!

  39. So I tried these out and it turned out to be a disaster!! First I couldn’t make cute cake shapes, so I had to make them all balls (which defeated the purpose for making them for a bachelorette party). Then they weren’t solid enough, I guess I either used too much or too little icing? So they melted away when I tried to cover them in chocolate (even after having let them set in the fridge all night)…and the chocolate was too globby so I couldnt get it covered as smoothly as yours…In the end they turned out as red velvet cake balls with white chocolate globs and sprinkles on top…ugh I hope they at least taste good!
