Hi guys. I guess you’ve probably noticed my absence from the website recently. Well, I’ve finally felt good enough to post something. So here goes. I’ve been in the hospital for the last twelve days and I’m still not sure when I will get out. Hopefully soon. Hopefully. I’m definitely ready.
Unfortunately, I was pretty sick when I arrived. I started out with an infection that made its way into my transplanted kidney and then into my bloodstream. Not good. Not fun.
But what makes matters much more difficult is that for more than a year now, my transplanted kidney has not been doing it’s best. I chose not to tell anyone because I wanted to focus on being positive, but I’ve slowly had to come to terms that my kidney, the wonderful gift of life given to me more than eighteen years ago will not be with me forever. Actually, something I never really expected to happen. But I was so young when I received it and it has done so superbly over the years, I never had a reason to question its lifespan. I’ve learned recently however, that 18 years is fantastic for a transplanted kidney and even better since mine was from a deceased donor. I can’t tell you how hard it is to accept that I will have to let this kidney go. Feelings of letting my deceased donor down fill my heart with sadness.
But it is happening. And faster than I anticipated. Before getting sick two weeks ago, I had begun the process to be re-evaluated for another kidney transplant and to be added to the transplant waiting list. In the meantime, my mom is being tested to be a possible donor. I had thought I would have time to do all of this and hopefully have surgery and not skip a beat with my job or with this website that I enjoy sharing with you so much.
No such luck. Since I’ve been here, I’ve started dialysis to take some stress off my distressed kidney while it tries to heal. The hope is that I would be on dialysis for a short while, giving my transplanted kidney time to recuperate. Then, go off dialysis and try to squeak a few more months out before surgery is needed.
The alternative, though which is just as possible is that 1) I’ll be on dialysis until my mom is confirmed as a donor or 2) My mom is not a potential donor and then I would stay on dialysis while I wait on the list for a kidney to become available.
So that’s what’s been going on. That’s the reason for the lack of cake pops and cupcakes and cute. I just wanted to let you know something and thank everyone for their wonderful and inspiring get well wishes. You guys are a huge bright spot in my life. You have no idea how much.
Hugs,
Bakerella
I’ll pray for you.
Get well soon!
Thanks for keeping us posted! I’m so sorry to hear going through this. However, I like how you remain upbeat at positive. I hope you’re able to find a match soon. You’re in my thoughts and prayers!
Praying for you! <3
Hi, I’m wishing you a speedy recovery and I hope they find a donor for you really soon! I’ll make Cake Pops and think of you. I’ve never made them, just procrastinated. But after reading this, I really want to. Your strength is very inspiring….and your creations are phenomenal. Take care.
I’m so sorry to hear you’ve been feeling poorly. My father’s first kidney lasted about 19 years, which we understood at the time to be a very good outcome. He was lucky to receive a cadaver kidney after a relatively short time back on dialysis, and I wish the same quick results for you.
I am facing a transplant myself later this year, so will send up thoughts for good kidney mojo for both of us! xo
I too have been worried, as others mentioned. I get a great deal of inspiration from your website and your book. I was so thrilled to be able to attend your class in Newport, Oregon. You have such an amazing spirit and powerful smile. You are in my thoughts and I hope for a speedy and long-lasting recovery for you.
Hi. I met you in Dallas at your book signing. I am not sure if you remember but I didn’t ask you a baking question, I asked how your kidney was doing? I work for the local Organ Procurement Organization in Dallas. I was so excited to meet you because I knew you were a recipient. You are a very special person who has been given a second chance at LIFE! I feel strongly you will get your third chance at LIFE soon! May God Bless you soon and stay positive.
Sending healing thoughts your way. Feel Better!
GET WELL SOON! You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I wish you all the best! Feel better!
Been wondering about you! Hang in there, sweet girl. Hugs ‘n kisses abound for your speedy improvement!
My prayers are with you and your family during this very difficult time. Keep the faith.
A young man at my church just had his second kidney transplant.. I saw him go through so much with dialysis; he waited for 2 years for his. I hope a match comes your way soon. <3
Sending Love and Healing Energy your way.
Prayers to you and your family!
God Bless you.

Hi!
First, I am not a commenter type…but I am compelled by your so transparent post.
My mom just received a kidney transplant. Against all odds. She was too old – 62. She had a rare blood type. No siblings. The doctors were not hopeful. Less than a year later our prayers were answered. I am praying for you!
You are being lifted up in prayer by so many myself included!
Prayers and hugs for you, Angie!!!!!!
I found you through PW, and I just had to comment because while I don’t know exactly what you’re going to, it’s one of my worst fears. I had a kidney transplant 7 years ago (at the age of 22), and I often think about the day when the kidney will stop. I can’t imagine the heartbreak. My thoughts are with you as you go through this and I’m hoping for a great outcome and a brand new kidney!
My thoughts and prayers are with you. I wish for the best possible outcome for you and your family!
We are praying for you and a speedy recovery with blessings for you and your family. I was wondering if you had run off or something. Your beautiful creations and lovely script is greatly missed. Looking forward to all things back to normal soon.
Take care Bakerella !

Wow! Wishing you a speedy turn-around! Darn kidneys-can’t live with them, can’t live without them! I have 2 very good friends with problem kidneys. I hope things move along quickly and you start feeling better soon.
Andrea
My dad just had his second kidney transplant a year and a half ago. Know exactly what you’re going through. sorry for you, but keep pressing on- he got his second kidney, did beautifully and has had low low low creatin levels for over a year.

I’ve been a reader, (and eater of those oh so cute cake pops), but not much of a commenter. I wish you well, will throw some prayers your way, and keep my fingers crossed about the transplant. Take care of yourself….we’ll still be here whenever you get back.
Good luck. I hope you will be healthy again very soon.
My Aunt is going through the exact same situation. Her sister donated 18 yrs ago, and she later underwent a pancreatic transplant. Unfortunately, the pancreas failed and she was taken off of her anti-rejection medication, so her body killed the kidney. My father is donating next week, and we’re praying for a speedy recovery for Dad and Aunt. I know how painful and scary this process can be, and I wish you and yours all the best. Know that you’ve brought joy to countless lives, and will continue to do so for a long time! xx -Whitney

My best friend just went through the same thing and she is fine, with a new kidney and an easier medication regimen than she had with her first transplant kidney. I wish the same for you. I also will be here when you get back. Meanwhile, I’ll send some prayers your way.
Prayers and positive thoughts to you and your family.
My dad is a kidney transplant patient with now 13 years under his belt (and kidney). His transplant was at Emory, as we’re in Atlanta too. He’s had many trials of dialysis recovery and scary moments. I pray that you are able to find a donor quickly.
I’m sure your donor, from all those years ago, has watched over you and is proud of what you could accomplish because of their gift. And I doubt anyone would be disappointed or felt that you let them down simply because things have taken their course.
Rest and try to be positive and feel the love and prayers we are all sending your way!
I have been a silent reader for a couple of years. Reading your blog has bought me happiness when I really needed something to make me smile. Thank you for that. I hope you are feeling better each day and that all of the uncertainty you currently face is resolved soon and you are able to move forward to renewed good health.
I am praying for you. I can’t imagine how difficult this time is for you but remember that God is with you. Philippians 4:6

My husband had a kidney transplant 4 years ago so we’ve been through the dialysis and anxious waiting. Your donor and their family would be thrilled that they managed to give you the freedom to live without dialysis for 18 years. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and we know that eventually this will just be a memory.
I can feel your energy. You are so strong! I admire your faith in healing. Believe it to achieve it!

You’ll pull through this honey. Everyone is thinking of you and hears to you getting better soon x
Oh no! I hope your kidney pulls through a little while longer and you find another donor. Please get well.
I saw you on Martha Stewart years ago, but have been too intimidated to try making cake pops. Well, I finally tried making a cake pop for the first time this past weekend with Hello Kitty. It was so much work but they looked so cute. Nowhere near as cute as yours but still worth it for the raves. Just know that you’ve touched more people than you know.
big huggggg… get well soon dear. really this is so sad to hear but God will definitely make a way. =)
(like you have time) please email me personally! I just got out of the hosp yesterday..was in for my transplanted kidney…thought it was rejection but thank God it was infection…also going to look at possible living donors in not too long…13.5 years w/ cadaver kidney + pancreas. Blessings, health and no antibodies to you & your mom!

HAng in there and we will be praying for you.
Big Hugs!!!!!
Have you thought about the kidney exchange program? Currently I am a donor for a friend of mine who needs a kidney but I am not her match. In the program the exchange finds a donor who is her match with another person who needs a kidney to be a match for me. There’s a place called the Texas Transplant Institute I’m working with right now to make the exchange for my friend. If you haven’t already, find out more about it if your mom isnt’ a match for you. Hope all works out good for you!!
All my prayers are with you!
God bless you, Angie. You have given so much happiness, cheer and joy to others. I have shared your site and your awesome creations with so many of my friends. Good luck to you and I will be thinking of you often.
