My friend Cupcake Julie had her Christmas party this past weekend.
You may remember her gorgeous sugar-themed decorations.
Stuff like this.
(Here’s the post from last year if you want to see visions of sugar plums dancing in your head for the next few days. Make sure you check out the kids play bakery, too. It’s incredible.)
It’s hard to imagine, but this year was even more beautiful than last.
Colonel Cupcake was there again this year.
And so was this guy.
And this one.
And this little one. These guys were all over the place.
You may also remember seeing them from the Toronto Book Signing Post.
Teatro Verde is the only store I’ve actually seen them sold in. It made me happy to see them on display.
Anyway, I love ’em. So festive and sweet.
As a surprise for Julie, I made a few cake pops inspired by them to bring to the party.
Wanna see?
Cupcake Nutcracker guys.
She squealed. I smiled.
They’re double decker cake pops, too. Tricky and a little over the top, but I couldn’t resist.
I also made some Christmas Tree cake pops.
Much easier. But instead of doing them in green, I kept them in her holiday color scheme.
I really like them like this.
Speaking of trees, Julie’s party decorations this year also included two new ones.
This cheerful pink one covered in snowmen.
And this whimsical upside down tree.
Amazing, huh.
But that’s Julie.
Here’s her dessert table. Filled with tons of treats.
Cookies and candy.
Cake Pops, of course.
Mini cupcakes from Crumb in New York.
Macarons and much, much more.
Completely lovely. I wish you could have been there with me.
But since you weren’t … how about a couple of cute guys to keep you company?
I just so happen to know of two that are about ten inches tall.
I thought I’d part with these to share them with one of you.
Enter for a chance to win these two sweet soldiers.
- Simply leave a comment on this post and tell me your favorite thing to eat on Christmas. Real food this time. Something non-sweet. I was on sugar overload this weekend and I need some ideas. I know you guys will have some great ones.
- Deadline to enter is Tuesday, December 21 at 7:00 pm ET. TIME’S UP. Winner announced below.
- One winner will be chosen at random and announced sometime Tuesday evening.
P.S. – If you know another store that sells them too, I’d love to hear.
Good Luck!
And the winner is………

I just adore those little boxes with cheeses and sausages and crackers from places like Hickory Farms! I love it when people give them to me as gifts, but I also go buy them myself after Christmas to get them half off. I would love these ~ My favorite thing to eat at Christmas is probably the ‘Christmas Morning’ muffins we make for breakfast every year, with cranberries and orange zest. That or the Leek and Potato soup that we serve every year for Christmas Eve. It is delicious – and just right too. Not too heavy for the night before Christmas!
Sugarr cookies!
Merry Christmas!
We have a Christmas goose at my house!! It’s richer tasting than turkey and makes us feel ‘old school’ Christmasey :) My mom used to make it with an orange glaze when we were young – delish!

Tourtierre, a french – Canadian Meat pie, the recipe handed down through the generations and mostly enjoyed during ‘Le Reveillon’ (the awakening) on Christmas Eve in most Quebec households.

Wow, I’m really a sucker for sweets and the first thing that came to mind is this great sweet potato pudding that gets made at every holiday meal. For years we did cheese fondue for Christmas eve which was my fav. My other fav is cream cheese and whipping cream twice baked mashed potatoes. The recipe came from my aunt and is the only one of her recipes I have.
LOVE the white xmas tree pops!
I’m looking forward to prime rib and king crab!
My favorite is a standing rib roast with yorkshire pudding! Even though the British call their desserts puddings, this is the savory, not sweet pudding that gets roasted in the beef drippings of the pan once the roast comes out of the oven. Every time it PUFFS up, I sing like a little kid. Like Oliver from the play Oliver :)
Lasagna! A Christmas favorite at my house!
My dad’s spaghetti sauce. We always have Italian food for Christmas, and there is nothing better than a pile of gnocchi with my dad’s sauce, and a liberal dose of fresh parmesan. Mmmmm.
We always eat beef tenderloin and boiled shrimp. Such a strange thing now that I think of it, but it is YUMMY and decadent.
Please post if you find those nutcracker guys somewhere else. I can’t sort through 1400 comments! And i’d love to have them. They SO go with my Christmas tree theme!
Wow!! That is really absolutely stunningly beautiful. It made my home look minimalistic to say the least. Does she do all that herself? She puts Martha Stewart to shame. You go gurl!! What an inspiration. I will have to kick it up a notch:)

My favorite thing for Christmas is braised short ribs. Yum. Now I’m hungry just thinking about it. Yum.
Cheeseball (or cheeseblob if you don’t want to roll it) eaten with the large sized Fritos. I’ve never had another cheeseball like ours but it’s what we’ve grown up with. Noone even remembers where the original recipe came from but it’s our family favorite. And a house full of females can’t be wrong! Merry Christmas to you and yours!
I love eating all the different kinds of fish with my Italian family on Christmas Eve! Grilled Calamari salad is the best! (Ok… my mouth is watering now!)
I think that I would have to say that the honey baked ham is probably what I look forward to for christmas.
My absolute favorite thing to eat is turkey and mashed potatoes with gravy. The great thing is that after the meal, we then get to have homemade turkey soup! This year will be even better because we live out of state, and our parents are coming to celebrate with us:) I can’t wait!!! Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday
Every year, instead of Christmas dinner, we have Christmas breakfast with the works. Biscuits, pancakes/waffles, eggs, bacon, sausage, ham, hash browns, and whatever else we can come up with for a breakfast feast!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of you!
I loveeee real ham, mashed potatoes, corn.. and all the good stuff (:
And if I do say so myself, those little nutcrackers are adorable!
we’re a VERY non-traditional house. We have pasta of some sort… lasagna, spaghetti…. but I always remember Christmas Eve at Gramma’s house where we had ham, turkey, stuffin’ & all the traditional sides. Then a visit from Santa (great uncle LLoyd who always grew his white, white beard out every year) and opening presents! :-)
My favorite non-sweet? Hmmmm. I’m a fan of both ham and turkey. Even though you could totally make them year-round, we only bust them out during the holidays.
Turkey and cranberry (sometimes the stuffing) leftovers in a sandwich with some sunflower seeds mixed in for crunch. I also love eggs benedict and only eat it on Christmas morning.
The turkey for sure! My husband started making Alton Brown’s roast turkey a few years ago and I fell in love with turkey. It is hands down the best I’ve ever had!
My favorite thing to eat are my mom’s sweet potatoes! YUM!
I just got your book from a friend and am going to make the Santa hat pops this week! I’m excited! You are very creative! :). Thank you!

My favorite meal on Christmas is my great-grandma’s roast and homemade noodles, with mashed potatoes. SO DELICIOUS!!
If you hear of places to buy these I would LOVE to know!! :)
Hmmm… Non-sweet, that’s hard with all the cookies and pies this time a year. But my favorite non-sweet item would be corn casserole… It’s kinda like a cornbread but WAY better! I look forward to it all year!
My favorite thing is the cranberry relish. It’s a mixture of cranberries with 2 oranges that have gone through the food processor…. then mixed in with raspberry jello. A little sugar so that it’s not so bitter .. place in a jello mold and you have so yummy stuff. I can’t imagine a christmas or thanksgiving meal for that matter without it!….at least for me!!
I love all of our food but if I have to pick just one it would be Italian Wedding Soup…for some reason that’s the only time I make it!
My dad’s amazing homemade stuffing.
AMAZING! the pics are gorgeous ..I can’t imagine how lovely it was right up close.
. Christmas Dinner.. prime rib ;)
Cupcake Julie is such an inspiration!! :) I am doing a Candyland party at work in January, and would love to pick her brain fro ideas….Anyway, favorite thing to eat at Christmas would be HAM! My favorite thing to eat during the holidays is “funeral potatoes” (as they are called here in Utah) They are a yummy goodness mixture of cheese potatoes, onions, cream of chicken soup, and more cheese! Yumm.
My mom makes “trash” which is the original chex mix – she uses 4 sticks of butter and bacon drippings along with peppery spices for the chex ceral, pretzels, nuts, and corn nuts – yummy!
Nothing beats a Trash Can Turkey for the holidays. It is by far the best way to cook a turkey! Merry Christmas, everyone!!
Breakfast on Christmas morning….crepes filled with strawberries, crispy bacon and Red Roosters! (Champagne with cranberry juice and a twist of orange!)
potatoes. any kind…mashed, roasted, smashed!.. so yummy
we are going to do a standing rib roast this year!
Wow, that is incredible. I got a Cracker Barrel Christmas Train (just the engine) that looks like a whimsical gingerbread house. I would go perfectly with her theme. My favorite non-sweet food would probably be green bean casserole. But right now, after seeing all that, all I can think about is sweets.
It’s hard to think of something non-sweet that I love to eat on Christmas, but I guess it would probably be my mom’s dressing. I’m vegan, so she makes me my own little dish of dressing, not in the turkey.
Turkey! (:
My favorite thing to eat at Christmas time is breakfast. When I was little after church we would all go back to my Grandma and Grandpa’s house for a warm breakfast of eggs, toast, and ham!

beef tenderloin – we only splurge and buy this once a year for Christmas dinner!
lobster bisque. I look forward to it all year!
We keep things pretty simple and easy here for Christmas since Thanksgiving is such a huge affair and we’re just plum tuckered out and still recovering. Strange choice, but it’s just not Christmas without my Mom’s potato salad. My brother-in-law and I fight over who gets the leftovers every year!
My favorite thing to eat is the stuffing. We make a similar meal to what we have over Thanksgiving.
I have wanted these little guys for a while! My favorite Holiday treats? Cheesecake and Cannolis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One year my aunt and I made a strata for brunch…it was the best!
I love eating monkey bread on Christmas. My family makes the best kind, so it’s a little bit addicting, but so worth it!
I LOVE this one appetizer my friend got me hooked on. She made it for a girls night and I make it all the time now. It is gone in two seconds at parties. It is roast beef on toasted baquette with a blue cheese creamy sauce and then chopped green onions. She just cuts the green stalk all over the tops with scissors. I am drooling thinking about it right now. :)

Every year growing up we would drive to my grandparents house on Christmas Eve to have ham, baked potatoes and homemade rolls.
