Sweet Soldiers

IMG_4878

My friend Cupcake Julie had her Christmas party this past weekend.

You may remember her gorgeous sugar-themed decorations.

IMG_4869

Stuff like this.

(Here’s the post from last year if you want to see visions of sugar plums dancing in your head for the next few days. Make sure you check out the kids play bakery, too. It’s incredible.)

It’s hard to imagine, but this year was even more beautiful than last.

IMG_4711

Colonel Cupcake was there again this year.

IMG_4838

And so was this guy.

IMG_4849

And this one.

IMG_4857

And this little one. These guys were all over the place.

You may also remember seeing them from the Toronto Book Signing Post.

Teatro Verde is the only store I’ve actually seen them sold in. It made me happy to see them on display.

Anyway, I love ’em. So festive and sweet.

As a surprise for Julie, I made a few cake pops inspired by them to bring to the party.

Wanna see?

IMG_4548

Cupcake Nutcracker guys.

She squealed. I smiled.

They’re double decker cake pops, too. Tricky and a little over the top, but I couldn’t resist.

I also made some Christmas Tree cake pops.

IMG_4592

Much easier. But instead of doing them in green, I kept them in her holiday color scheme.

I really like them like this.

Speaking of trees, Julie’s party decorations this year also included two new ones.

IMG_4832

This cheerful pink one covered in snowmen.

IMG_4791

And this whimsical upside down tree.

Amazing, huh.

IMG_4664

But that’s Julie.

IMG_4687

Here’s her dessert table. Filled with tons of treats.

IMG_4630

Cookies and candy.

IMG_4697

Cake Pops, of course.

IMG_4701

Mini cupcakes from Crumb in New York.

IMG_4650

Macarons and much, much more.

IMG_4722

Completely lovely. I wish you could have been there with me.

But since you weren’t … how about a couple of cute guys to keep you company?

IMG_4965

I just so happen to know of two that are about ten inches tall.

I thought I’d part with these to share them with one of you.

Enter for a chance to win these two sweet soldiers.

  3. My favorite thing to eat at Christmas time (besides dessert – even though that’s always the best thing) is my mom’s meatballs. She makes them with Montgomery Inn (a local resturant here in Cincinnati) barbeque sauce and they are wonderful & its the only time of year I get them. Just thinking about them now makes me hungry

  10. My family is korean so we have a korean feast for Christmas dinner. My favorite is a dish called Haemul Pajun. It’s a seafood dish.. direct translation would be “seafood pancake”… it’s a lot better than it sounds! It’s almost like crabcakes but made with a little more batter.

  160. Oranges. We get huge boxes of them around Christmas and eat them all through the winter.

  161. Holy cow! What an incredible party….love the attention to detail.

We always make a “tuna tree” appetizer before dinner – basically tuna, cream cheese and seasonings – formed into a tree shape and decorated with cherry tomato “ornaments” and parsley “garland”. It tastes like Christmas on a cracker in my mind.

  175. Non-sweet?! I’ve never heard of such a thing :P
It’s been a family tradition to cook up a ton of fun, homemade pizzas on Christmas Eve and to enjoy all the leftovers on Christmas day !

  176. Appitizer’s, yummy, buffalo chicken dip!

  177. Mom’s potato puff casserole with gravy on top. I can’t wait.

    These sparkly nutcrackers are AWESOME!

  178. Twice baked potatoes… we have them every year with our Christmas meal.

  179. On christmas eve we make a turkey. My favorite thing to do it make a turkey pot pie with left over turkey on christmas day. Such a good comfort food.

  180. I love “Those Potatos” – shredded potatos, sour cream, green onions . . . yum!!

  181. I love to eat deviled eggs and celery with cream cheese/mayo filling.

  182. My dad makes delicious bread. It’s my grandmother’s recipe. It’s simple, but wonderful. Plus, he only makes it on special occasions, so I look forward to eating it!

  183. Cheesy potato casserole and turkey!

  184. It’s not a tradition or anything, but I love enchiladas and they’re a very wintry food to me. Lots of red sauce, green cilantro and white sour cream. Yum! Merry Christmas!

  185. My family is very…mixed, for lack of a better word and for Christmas Eve we all go to Grandma’s house. My half-sister’s step-mom (there’s the weird mixed-ness) makes this amazing cornbread pudding thing and I look forward to it every year!

  186. I love to eat it all. Desserts (either pecan pie or homemade caramels) are my favorite though.

  187. These little guys are so cute! I love them! My favorite holiday food is green beans and bacon! Yum!

  188. Turkey, ham, baked beans and mac and cheese. With shrimp cocktail and pigs in a blanket to start. :)

  189. My most favorite thing, left over cookies for breakfast!

  190. Oops, forgot the “favorite” Christmas food. Every year we eat crab cakes on Christmas Eve. Started when we lived in Virginia, and have made them in Israel, Kuwait, Maryland…different kinds of crab, sometimes VERY difficult to come by, but always a family favorite.

  191. If I have to pick a favorite…oh goodness! It’s too much pressure… ok…I’ll go with…my mom’s potatoes au gratin. She’s been making them since the beginning of time and they are fantastic!

  192. Very rare prime rib. Scalloped potatoes. Creamed spinach. My very favorite holiday meal.

  193. Real food? Does that exist?! We do prime rib, so I’ll vote for that but really I just love having cheese and crackers since that seems to only be something we have at family events or parties and not just on your typical day.

  194. Amazing!! Is the only word that comes to mind. Those are the most phenomenal nutcrackers I’ve ever seen. BTW, I LOVE the white Christmas tree pops–even better than the traditional green.

  195. I love yummy healthy-ish snacky food like crispt apples with cheese, and fancy hor doerves.

  196. Yorkshire Pudding! I only get it twice a year! Christmas and Thanksgiving!
    :)

  197. As part of a family tradition, we have a meatless Christmas Eve. My favorite part of that meal is our seafood lasagna. We do a mix of seafood and then veggies to fill it out.
