Sweet Soldiers

IMG_4878

My friend Cupcake Julie had her Christmas party this past weekend.

You may remember her gorgeous sugar-themed decorations.

IMG_4869

Stuff like this.

(Here’s the post from last year if you want to see visions of sugar plums dancing in your head for the next few days. Make sure you check out the kids play bakery, too. It’s incredible.)

It’s hard to imagine, but this year was even more beautiful than last.

IMG_4711

Colonel Cupcake was there again this year.

IMG_4838

And so was this guy.

IMG_4849

And this one.

IMG_4857

And this little one. These guys were all over the place.

You may also remember seeing them from the Toronto Book Signing Post.

Teatro Verde is the only store I’ve actually seen them sold in. It made me happy to see them on display.

Anyway, I love ’em. So festive and sweet.

As a surprise for Julie, I made a few cake pops inspired by them to bring to the party.

Wanna see?

IMG_4548

Cupcake Nutcracker guys.

She squealed. I smiled.

They’re double decker cake pops, too. Tricky and a little over the top, but I couldn’t resist.

I also made some Christmas Tree cake pops.

IMG_4592

Much easier. But instead of doing them in green, I kept them in her holiday color scheme.

I really like them like this.

Speaking of trees, Julie’s party decorations this year also included two new ones.

IMG_4832

This cheerful pink one covered in snowmen.

IMG_4791

And this whimsical upside down tree.

Amazing, huh.

IMG_4664

But that’s Julie.

IMG_4687

Here’s her dessert table. Filled with tons of treats.

IMG_4630

Cookies and candy.

IMG_4697

Cake Pops, of course.

IMG_4701

Mini cupcakes from Crumb in New York.

IMG_4650

Macarons and much, much more.

IMG_4722

Completely lovely. I wish you could have been there with me.

But since you weren’t … how about a couple of cute guys to keep you company?

IMG_4965

I just so happen to know of two that are about ten inches tall.

I thought I’d part with these to share them with one of you.

Enter for a chance to win these two sweet soldiers.

  • Simply leave a comment on this post and tell me your favorite thing to eat on Christmas. Real food this time. Something non-sweet. I was on sugar overload this weekend and I need some ideas. I know you guys will have some great ones.
  • Deadline to enter is Tuesday, December 21 at 7:00 pm ET. TIME’S UP. Winner announced below.
  • One winner will be chosen at random and announced sometime Tuesday evening.

The whole family gets involved in the preparations, and since his mom died, we have formed an assembly line to roll the enchiladas. She used to do the whole meal BY HERSELF! 191. My favorite is Honey Baked Ham…we don’t have it every year so it’s a treat when we do.

  192. I loved the post about Julie’s party last year and I’m so glad you have another one this year! Absolutely adorable–and I LOVE the little cupcake nutcrackers!
My favorite thing to eat on Christmas is my Nana’s rolls. They’re perfectly soft and so buttery. She uses the same recipe that my great-great-great grandmother used. No better rolls in the world!

  193. I love my mother’s cheese grits casserole! mmmmm!

  194. Turkey is my favourite. My son just tried a smoked turkey which is amazing. We’ll be doing that for Christmas so more can try it.

  195. My Mom always make a molded jello salad with pineapple and sour cream, it is so good and just “screams” holidays!

  196. Pork Roast and garlic mashed potatoes. Stick to your ribs delish!

That party is some serious sugar high! Loved looking at each and every delight. Happy Holidays

  197. I would have to say my Dad’s Chex Party Mix is always my favorite thing to snack on. He also packages it up and gives it to his Dentists he works for as a christmas present along with my mom and I’s cookies.

  198. I only wish I could throw a party that was that beautiful and well put together. I love seeing your cake pops! Such detail. You have more patients than I!

My favorite thing to eat would be my cornbread dressing. This year I am trying out a prime rib roast and if all goes as planned, it may be my new favorite!!

  199. My favorite thing to eat at Christmas is turkey sandwiches on rolls with mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce! YUMM!
