Today’s post was supposed to be something cute in time for Easter. Unfortunately, I didn’t do any baking this weekend or last. I’ve been sick and was in the hospital for a few days. Today is the first I’ve felt up to even getting on the computer. Thank you everyone that emailed wondering if I was ok. You don’t know how much that made me feel better. And I am better now. It just takes me a little longer to get over things.
Here’s why if you’re interested.
And, if you’re still looking for something bunny-related, then try this, this, this, this or this from previous years.
Now, luckily I still have last week’s post that never made its way live. It’s about doughnuts. Delicious decadent doughnuts.
You see, last year I was shooting some photos at a friend’s studio for the Cake Pops book coming out later this year. We started early in the morning and I hadn’t eaten yet. My friend offered me a doughnut. I was like yes. Perfect. When I opened the plain white box, there was only one doughnut left, curiously shaped like the letter A. An A doughnut? That’s kinda weird. Then he told me they were from the other day. Hmmmm. Do I want a who-knows-how-old doughnut? Yes. Yes. I did. I was hungry. So I threw it in the microwave for a few seconds to try and revive it. And, oh my. Oh my! OH MY! It was the best doughnut I’ve ever put in my mouth. The plain glazed A-shaped doughnut was filled with the most delicious mocha filling. I about died. Before I could even finish I was asking my friend where they came from.
But, he didn’t know. GASP. Someone had brought them to the studio for another shoot. And no one there knew the name or where they came from. Noooooo.
Just my luck, but probably a good thing for my waist.
Then weeks later, I was flipping through some magazines and found this little feature.
See.
No… not the cute owner. See the A doughnut on the left? It had to be the same place. Thank you for A-shaped doughnuts.
Finally, I found you.
Sublime Doughnuts in Georgia. We were reunited briefly in January. The doughnuts made an appearance on the Sugar Coma tour I attended where I was able to taste a few.
But I wanted more. I wanted to try all their flavors. So, weeks later. Like a couple of weeks ago. I finally made my way to Sublime.
I ordered a dozen for myself.
Each one different.
Like this Smores doughnut.
This Butter Toffee with Caramel Chocolate Icing.
And this Chocolate Wild Berry Fritter.
I had a doughnut party with myself and tasted them all.
Including this Caramel Apple Fritter, Red Velvet Cake and Dulce de Leche.
As well as this A-town Cream and Peanut Butter Cup doughnut.
Sublime has fab flavors and fun shapes like this Orange Dream Star. Delish.
And this Oreo doughnut with cream filling. Help.
And then there’s my old friend the A-Town Mocha. That’s A for Atlanta if you’re wondering. But I say A for Amazing.
Now, I just need to visit again to try the other dozen flavors that didn’t make it in my mouth.
Can you see, I’m all about doughnuts right now.
If you’re not convinced, take a look at….
this cute crystal-sprinkled pink doughnut necklace I found. Adorable, huh. It’s from the Alice in Wonderland collection at Swarovski.
I’ve never shopped at Swarovski until the other day. Cupcake Julie and I were at the mall and we peeked in.
Five minutes later I walked out with this cream colored doughnut necklace wondering what had just happened.
Impulse buying can be dangerous, but I love it and I’m glad I snagged it. So glad, I went online a few days later and ordered another one (This limited edition pink one) to give away. It’s just too dang cute not to share.
Want it? Come on. We can be dough nuts together.
Just leave a comment to this post on the site for a chance to win it.
All you have to do to be entered is to count the number of nuts on the Butter Toffee doughnut above. Just kidding. Let’s make this easy. Just tell me something about yourself. Your favorite doughnut flavor? Something you’re grateful for? What you’ll be doing this Easter? Some usual or unsusual talent you have? How many pair of shoes you own? Phobias? Favorite guilty pleasure. Surprise me.
Deadline to enter is Tuesday, March 30th at 5:00 pm ET. Time’s Up! Winner announced below.
One winner will be chosen at random and announced sometime Tuesday evening on this post.
Good luck.
Wow. You guys never cease to amaze me. Reading your comments makes me laugh and sometimes makes me cry. But they always brighten my day. Thank you.
Now it’s time to reveal the winner chosen at random.
Yay Mel! Isn’t it fun being right. Now your hubby can be reminded of it everytime he looks at this cute little doughnut necklace around your neck. Congrats!
P.S. Julia – you must share a photo of your full sleeve arm tatoo dedicated to Mary Poppins. Fascinating.
maple bars from a small bakery near us. the maple icing makes you think you’re in heaven!
I think that necklace is very cute! But what I really want to say is that I hope you are doing better. I’m happy you are back online and sharing your great ideas (and giveaways) with the world.
I love boston cream donuts!!! And I spent the day making homemade marshmallows – fun! :)
I’m 6 months prego, and after reading your post I’m going to be craving donuts until I get one!!! I could go for a cream filled donut right about now…
I love doughnuts! The last time my husband and I brought some to my parents house my sister ate the doughnut my husband had picked out srinkles. I had to laugh at how disappointed he was that his sprinkled doughnut was gone!
Traveling to Great Grandma’s house for Easter!!
Love the necklace!!!
I would have to say maple is the best… but all of those look like they could take on maple any day! :)
That necklace is just too cute!! Fav doughnut?? I’d say I’m a jelly filled girl!
Yummy donuts:)
baked goods always make me smile, no matter what. i’m glad you’re feeling better!
In the nut count, do you want just the pieces or the crumbs, too? LOL I’m so sorry to hear that you were feeling bad. Wow, 16 years. That’s amazing! I’ve never known anyone who has had a transplant. What a fabulous gift. I, too, have been given 3 fabulous gifts. I couldn’t have children so I have 3 kids that we adopted. They are adults, now, but the memories of those precious little gifts is still very fresh for me. But I will say that during the terrible 2’s and the hormonal teens, I was ready to give them back! LOL Just kidding. They are wonderful and I love them very much. Thanks for the chance to share that tidbit with you.
These doughnuts look amazing! I really don’t enjoy doughnuts much but these really look like fried cupcakes. And what could be better than that?!
Glad you are out of the hospital and hopefully feeling better!
My great grandmother made the most heavenly donuts in the world. After her death, no one, and I mean no one, could duplicate her recipe. She never measured a thing, all by feel. How can you write down a recipe that is done by the handful when no one in the family has hands as tiny as hers were. She is missed, so are her donuts!
Wow – I think I just put on 10kg just looking at your photos!
This Easter I plan to make some hot cross buns on Good Friday and then perfect my french macaroons on the Sunday.
Happy Easter Bakerella!
Those doughnuts look AMAZING!! I wonder if Sublime would deliver to NY ;-).
P.S. I’m glad you are feeling better.
Those doughnuts are all so pretty. I’ve never been a huge doughnut person, but all I’ve ever really had are chain doughnuts. It’s one of my life’s goals to visit Voodoo Doughnut in Portland, OR, though. Also that Peanut Butter Cup sounds FANTASTIC.
i think I shall be having a baby on Easter. My due date is this week and I’m banking she’ll arrive sometime next weekend.
Love the blog!
Keep up the great posting, I love checking out Bakerella. I have emetophobia (fear of vomiting) I spend all day worrying about my family getting sick. I stress about what they eat, where they go…I love pretty things and checking out your website and Facebook page is really relaxing and enjoyable, a bright piece of sunshine in my week. :)
Hmm, what about myself? I love red velvet cake. Love, love, love it. Also when I was a kid I had this kit that taught you how to make chocolate Easter Egg dioramas. How cool is THAT?
When I was nine I had one of my kidneys removed. Life has been good although guarded while growing up. That was 35 years ago. Enjoy today!
I’m a huge sucker for any baked good, especially if there is chocolate involved. I adore Krispy Kreme doughnuts because of the five tons of sugar on each one :)
Donut necklace? I don’t mind if I do!
I hope you continue to feel better! Ummm, my favorite donut is bavarian creme filled, frosted with chocolate fudge…..yum! I am far from Georgia, but we have a great local donut shoppe called Frost (http://www.frostology.com/) that makes many yummy and different kinds of donuts, which my daughter brings me from time to time. I always have to have just a tiny sample of each one, they are all so good!
I love any kind of doughnut with maple . . . maple anything!
I had a baby when I was 19 years old and I am forever greatful to her. Its amazing how something so small can change your life in a big way!
I made Pioneer Woman’s homemade glazed doughnut recipe and Oh My Goodness. My husband loved me even more after I made them. They were delicious!
mmm.. donuts! That looks so dang cute!
i LOVELOVELOVE sugar doughnuts =)
I am spending Easter with my family and making chicken fried quail..Thankful for everyone in my life!
I’m glad you are feeling better. The internet is definitely less fun without Bakerella posts. My totally random moment is that my favorite guilty TV pleasure is watching Cops, and I just watched an episode that involved a guy robbing a Dunkin Donuts. Hah! Between that and your post, I am having serious doughnut envy now.
My favorite donut is the plain ole glazed donut. You said we could talk about anything. I got a new kitchen faucet today…now isn’t that exciting?
So glad to hear you’re feeling better!! I missed reading my weekly sugar buzz!
Anyway, I’ve always been a classic croissant girl. The buttery and flakey, the better.
This is sooo cute!
I would LOVE to win the wonderful doughnut necklace! I’m excited for your cake pops book to come out as well! Pick me! :)
I want to live in Atlanta now… =-( well at least I could wear a donut around my neck and feel better!
I wish i could rewind time to when I was in hot-tlanta for work, and get me one of the Orange dream srat doughnuts. MMMmmmmmmm!
Here’s a great doughnut story. My 3 year old nephew was at the store with his mom and she told him he could pick out a doughnut. When he found the one he wanted he said, very loudly, “Hello Gorgeous”. My sentiments exactly. Glad your feeling better.
Oh, I will probably be continuing playing catch up with yard work if the weather is nice, along with celebrating Easter at church. My fav. doughnut is the blueberry cake and the chocolate eclair, but I know I would find a new favorite among all of those.
I love this website, so want to be the baker you are. I’m trying but it’s really hard to master, I’m a mom of three 9,6 and almost 3 year old. I enjoy reading your posts and salivating over your creations. Keep up the great work.
This post makes me want donuts..Good thing there is monkey bread in my oven right now. That’s pretty much the same, right?
My daughter just found the charm it! bracelets and they have donuts, cake, ice cream cones, and cupcakes! They are too cute. This one is a grown up version!!!!
HI, too cute!!
I love boston cream doughnuts put in the fridge so that the cream is cold!! craved them all the time when i was expecting!!
Oh I LOVE this necklace-so cute! And the doughnuts look super yummy also!
I love donuts also. I am rather boring since my fav if plain glazed. Of course, we don’t have a gourmet donut shop around like that. LOL.
Glad you are feeling better. I love reading your blog.
Best doughnut I ever had was from a bakery somewhere near Cape Hatteras…it’s called an Apple Ugly. It isn’t pretty but it is delicious!
Hello destiny. My husband starts a new job tomorrow. I am helping him pack (cheking out my fav blogs) and see the update. He is headed to ATLANTA tomorrow. I showed him the doughnuts and I am hoping to have an A-town in my hand by Friday’-)
Random Fact: I swam in a cage surrounded my sharks today
Donut Comment: I REALLY want to try that Oreo one
I now need to make my way to Georgia for not only the large amazing sounding aquarium but now to eat donuts.
I quit working when my girls were 2 and 1 years old. Every Friday we have a doughnut together on what I call “Doughnut Friday”. It’s lazy. It’s leisurely. We hang out at Dunkin Donuts, just watching the world go by. And every Friday I think about how blessed I am to have this time with my daughters. And of course, with doughnuts…the world’s most wonderful treat.
Thanks for a great site and glad you are feeling better.
Kind Regards,
Indiana Lori
My fav is chocolate covered Bavarian cream.
My favorite is chocolate bismark with custard filling, but my oh my I need to go to atlanta!
I just made the Minty Brownies. I can’ wait until they cool enough to eat without requiring medical care.
Necklaces are super cute!
Hope you are feeling better.
MMmmmmmm… those all look fantastic. I’m officially hungry now. :)
My fave donut is plain un-iced old fashioned. Although, the blueberry from Krispi Kreme are incredible as well.
That necklace is darling, hope I win!
outta my way the oreo donut is mine, love the necklace and i really do have manners!lol
The oreos donut looks amazing.
I can spot an A-shaped donut in your Sugar Coma photoset :)
I love doughnuts (or donuts in our neck of the woods). My favorite would be cinnamon roll with maple icing. Yummy!
So glad to know you are feeling a little better. My daughters and I were definitely starting to worry.
I can not pass up an apple fritter – really – they are just so yummy. But I’d gladly help you taste test the rest of the doughnut flavors.
Have a great week.
My weakness is dessert, I love almost all desserts and I was just reading on the Pioneer Woman’s page about making donuts. So this is perfect! Hope you are feeling great and would love to win!
there is this amazing donut chain store in Taiwan called Mister Donut, I think they’re originally from Japan. They make the best donuts I’ve ever tasted. If you’re ever in Asia, you need to try some!
I am glad to hear that you are okay! I look at your blog daily and was wondering why you hadn’t posted anything! I am an organ donor and am glad you are reminding people that it is a great thing to do!
I’m grateful for the sweet little dog sleeping next to me right now. Thanks, Bakerella! Glad to hear you’re feeling better.
My favourite is sour cream, with the glaze on top, but i’d love to try the oreo or the peanut butter one! They both look soo good
Yes! I was starting to wonder where you’ve been. So glad you’re better. The food blogging world is a much better place when you’re in it Angie. I look forward to those posts every week. I posted on some donuts a couple of weeks ago. Baked Donuts. Not as fattening……unless of course you eat 12 of them. Again, so glad you’re back. I’m starting to wonder the same about Ree, a.k.a. Pioneer Woman. No new posts for the past two days…………unusual.
http://www.simplysweeter.blogspot.com
There are 527 nuts … oh wait you didn’t need to know that LOL
My fave donut is the glazed old fashoined … and am I glad i live NO WHERE NEAR those donuts …OMG they look sooooo good!!
wow. You don’t even understand how discustingly obsessed with donuts I am. If I let myself, I would eat donuts for breakfast and dessert everyday of the week (all meals on weekends). And I would probably weigh more than a car. I am MEANT to win this donut necklace – ask anyone in my family what my favorite food is and they’ll tell you why I should win this. random shmandom ;) PICK ME!
Favorite: classic – white frosting, white donut, white cream filling. YUM.
I am pretty new to this site- I just found it about ten days ago, and I love it! I made a batch of cake balls/ pops for some friends coming over last week. Let me tell you, they loved them! Your ideas are inspiring, and just so darned cute! I’ll be making something for Easter- maybe the peach crunch cake.
Those donuts are making me hungry right now- how can you choose a fav?
OMG! I am going to Atlanta next week! Sublime doughnuts here I come!!!! Thanks for the yummy recommendation and the sweet, sweet giveaway :-)
That necklace is too wonderful and those donuts look like they are beyond amazing! This Easter I am spreading the joy of cake pops by making goodies for my whole family. I can’t wait to start working on the little duckies this week, along with some sugar cookie rabbits! Thanks for all the baking inspiration!
Wow! I’ve been reading your blog for FOREVER, but I don’t remember ever having read that post about your transplant. I even went and read every comment in that thread because I figured I must have read it, and I always comment. I guess I never did. I’m sorry you were in the hospital this week, but I’m glad you are out! :D I, too, recover slowly, for different reasons, but will never have a proper auto-immune system again. It’s all good. I’m happy, so it can’t be that bad!
Let’s see… doughnuts… I don’t care what flavor, just serve it under a scoop of vanilla ice cream with with Kayro syrup and rainbow sprinkles poured over, and I’m in hog heaven! (Emphasis on the hog.)
When I was little (6 or 7), there were a couple of days a month when my step-father would have my brother and I in the mornings and would have to get us ready, me off to school, and my little brother to his daycare. I don’t remember now why it was, but that’s not important…. What is important is that he would take us to this little donut place on the way to my school and we would go in and sit at the counter and have a hot chocolate and a donut of our choice. I -always- got a cake donut with chocolate icing. But, here is the great part. My step-dad would make sure they got me one that was still warm with the icing freshly put on it. I’m not even sure they were that great of donuts, but I felt special because Dad had it made special for me :)
That’s my donut story… Thank you for making me think of it!
Uhh, my favorite doughnut is any doughnut I can put my hands on. Just as long as it does not have any jelly filling, ick! Mmmm, I love doughnuts!
I fell in love with sour cream doughnuts my junior year of high school during my AP Chemistry “Doughnut Lab.” Good times! I barely scraped by the exam, but the doughnut memories were worth all the effort!
My goodness do those look AMAZING! I love a good doughnut :)
Who doesn’t need a Swarovski adorned donut? Beautiful!
Something about myself…. Well, I rarely eat doughnuts, because the only place I know to get them near me is a Dunkin’ Donuts – and they’re too saccharine-ly sweet for me. A Krispy Kreme, how I’d kill for you to be near me. Or a fantastic doughnut shop. With flavors like red velvet and oreo creme. Oh, it sounds INCREDIBLE.
And I’d love to wear one!
Love the necklace! And this Easter, like every other, I am blessed enough to be spending with my incredible extended family, as well as my own little family of four! :)
First of all- I am so glad that you’re feeling better! :)
Okay, something I’m grateful for? My husband. Yesterday morning he offered to take his sandwich (that he had packed in his lunch) apart, and trade me bread so that I didn’t have to eat the heels of the bread for my breakfast toast. . Seriously. Who does that? We’ve been married 7 years and have 2 little boys and are crazy busy like all parents.—And yet he still does little things like this. (and of course, I would not take his bread!) I thank God for him everyday!
–and he thinks it’s endearing that I try to make some of your recipes! I always show him your blog–and then my version..not quite as nice….I’m learning…and he’s always supportive! :) Thank you so much!
I think my favorite guilty pleasure is all the Real Housewives shows on BRAVO.
my fitness program ends the beginning of May, then I am
making some donuts….yummy!!
thanks for your amazing site
happy easter
:)
I have always been the plain jane glazed donut girl. but now, after seeing this post, i think i might need to go out and try some new flavors! Thanks! Amira
I am hungry for donuts now! This easter I hope to decorate the family driveway with sidewalk chalk with my sister!
I’m glad you’re feeling better!
Random fact about me? I have slept 22 hours in the past 36, being sick is no fun! But donuts make everything better…
This post is timely, as my 2 1/2 year old daughter just recently declared our neighborhood donut shop “beautiful”. More specifically, “that’s dunkin’ donuts! it’s beeeeeeautiful!”
Also- hope you are back to your old self again real soon, being sick is just no fun!
Our Easter celebration involves a very competitive egg cracking contest, complete with brackets and a year of gloating. I hope this is my year!
Thanks for sharing your story, and for sharing the loot!
Sometimes you are having a really really really bad day. You wonder if God loves you and then you get online and read about glorious doughnuts and where you can get them, and suddenly life doesn’t seem so bad anymore…..
My favorite doughnuts are Berliners, which are traditional German New Year’s treats. Remember when JFK said “Ich bin ein Berliner” and it meant “I’m a doughnut”? These are the ones. My German exchange student in high school taught my family how to make them. They’re super fluffy and we fill them with homemade raspberry jam. Mmmm. You should try them!!
Ok that’s just too freakin’ cute! I want one! My favorite donut flavor is just plain old cake donut, or a chocolate anything!
Grateful for family and friends. Life is so fragile…
Also grateful for custard filled donuts, both chocolate and maple glazed :)
Oh My Goodness!! I live in Atlanta – and I MUST find this bakery! I think I might have gained 3 pounds while reading this post! THANKS!
Hmm… my favourite donut would be a dream puff… they are super tasty if you like whipped cream. This easter I’ll be heading out of town to my brother and sister in laws for a wonderful feast and as usually I will be bringing dessert, I’m thinking of making those cupcake easter baskets that you have made :) Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
I hope you are feeling better and Krispy Kreme donuts have to be among my top 5 guilty pleasures.
A fact about me-every cake I make looks like it came straight from a 70s coloring book and it really cracks me up.
Love the necklace. Love the blog & all of your amazing ideas. It is always a good day when there is a post.
I love cake donuts- almost any flavor- but my favorite is from our local shop- The Donut Whole- they do amazing thin mint cookie donuts- or their version of it anyways. (But I will never pass up a pumpkin spice or blueberry if they are not out!!)
My favorite doughnut is the cruller. I love getting them from my hometown bakery: Grebe’s in Milwaukee. Nothing like a long cakey bit of heaven!
:-) It’s my 24th birthday on the 31st of march, if that matters. LOL. I clicked on your link to the part on you having had kidney transplant before. it was a tremendously touching story. Li grandfather died of liver cancer. But it was different. He had hepatitis B years ago and never treated it properly. True to the doc’s warning, he got liver cancer 15 years later, and suffering on his deathbed as the cancer ate into his hip bones. A year later, my grandma who had a relapse of her breast cancer passed on as the cancer entered her brain. Life is fragile, isn’t it? There’s this precious hymn that says, “Life at best is very brief, Like the falling of a leaf, Like the binding of a sheaf…”
Take care :-)
Those look so good!!! :) My favorite doughnut is the devil’s food chocolate one. It’s delicious! :)
Winning a cupcake necklace would top my week off! This was a great week. My husband and I found out that the IRS will be spending us money that we have been fighting them for for a year now! The less then ten minutes after that news I got my biggest cake order ever! Then to follow up all that good news we had sunshine this weekend! My husband and I got to go to a birthday party for a grown up with some of the best food I’ve ever put in my mouth! I had an amazing weekend with my two little girls and my wonderful husband. It was a fantastic Friday through Sunday and I’m glad I got to tell you about it! ;)
My favorite is boston cream. I love this necklace!
i like mint chocolate flavoured anything =)
My favorite doughnut is the Boston Cream….The plain doughnut with vanilla pudding inside and chocolate frosting. :) MMMMMM!
Is Sublime open this weekend? I’ll be in Atlanta…
Fun Fact: After trying some donuts on a recent trip to Cali…I will never ever ever again buy a dunkin donuts donut. neva eva. The donuts above remind me so much of the Cali donuts I had. I need to find a reason to visit GA sometime in the near future….
That is an adorable necklace! I love boston creme donuts from Dunkin Donuts. I also love maple bars. Glad to hear your doing better!
That necklace is too cute! My favorite donut is a Boston cream donut. Or a chocolate one. Or really any kind of donut, yum!
I LOVE DOUGHNUTS! and i’m glad you’re feeling better.
my husband and I are going to the beach for easter. we’ve never been to the beach together…can’t wait!
Moan. I wish I lived in Atlanta. Or Georgia. Or anywhere within a 4-hour driving radius. On second thought, it’s probably a blessing I don’t. Just about any doughnut with a cream filling will send me into a deep-fried glazed-over euphoria. But I would never pass up an old fashioned. (or, let’s be honest, any other doughnut)
SO glad to hear you are ok! I love donuts, applesauce cake are one fave & our local store does a yeast twist w/ cinnamon sugar that is wonderful. Then there is chocolate glazed, cream filled…..
I’m debating between making cake pops or cookies for Easter. Maybe I should just do both!
My second daughter, third child, is nicknamed “donut”. I would love to have this for her, when she’s older, of course. Currently, she would just try to eat it. :)
Those are a pregnant girl’s dream!!! I am going to have to make my way there SOON! And the necklace is impossibly adorable.
Oh my gosh! I used to work in a donut shop and after making them in the wee hours of the morning and remembering the overwhelming smell of donuts, I tend to stay away from donuts. However, I am dying to eat one or ten of those delicious donuts! :) Red Velvet Cake donut…yes please!
I love sublime donuts! Whenever I have a bad day at school I walk over there and treat myself. The cute owner helps too ;)
This Easter I’ll be spring cleaning and doing yard work! Joys of being a grown up :)
Super adorable! I really hope you feel better! I definitely missed your posts <3 Sending thoughts and prayers your way.
My absolute favorite doughnut is plain glazed. Yummy!
Hope you feel better soon!
oh my gosh….those donuts look amazing. how do you chose a favorite???? btw, i am happy and extremely excited about your book…..cake pops, how do you chose a favorite????
OMG The star donut is brilliant! I can’t believe we don’t see cute shaped donuts more often! ^_^
If I only eat one more donut for the rest of my life, may it please be the peanut butter cup donut. Please, please please.
I would LOVE to have this necklace and would wear it every single day, it is so adorable!
Something about myself…I’m going to graduate school this fall to study Child Development. This is the first time in my life that I am actually excited to go to school; I wish it started next week!
Glad to have you back Bakerella! Wishing you a speedy and peaceful recovery :)
My absolute favorite doughnut is plain glazed. Yummy!
Hope you feel better soon!
Ellen
I’m just nuts for coconut doughnuts.
I’m a boston creme doughnut gal, all the way! can’t get enough of ’em, though they occasionally hurt my teeth. ;)
You mention phobias….so I feel I’m compelled to share that I have a deathly fear of ostriches. I sleep in a loft bed though, so I’m safe from the rampaging hordes from my nightmares.
I’m so glad you’re back and doing fine. My favorite donut flavor of the moment is Chocolate Pudding Filled from Eugene, OR’s newest local treasure: Holy Donuts! They make a wide selection of dairy-free, vegan, and gluten-free donuts (and regular ones, too) in all kinds of really interesting flavors. Yum… if it wasn’t raining I think I would walk over there and get one right now.
Homemade. Delicious. Favorite childhood memory. A little crispy on the outside and soft , warm cake on the inside. Only available in my mother’s kitchen 40 years ago.
glad you’re feeling well again. i like the vegan doughnuts from this place in portland called voodoo doughnuts.
favorite guilty pleasure: looking at photos of delicious desserts on baking blogs during class
I really want to try that oreo donut and I just made bunny cupcakes with my friend yesterday for easter!!
Random fact: touching cotton balls makes my skin crawl. Not really a phobia, but close! :)
Glad you are feeling better! I had thought something must be wrong since you hadn’t been posting.
I own 73 pairs of shoes. They are also my guilty pleasure. :)
I’ve also made two of your recipes for two family parties this past month and everyone thinks I’m a baking goddess – I hate to share my secret, but they love you!
Wow. That’s definitely the first doughnut necklace I’ve ever seen! I’d like to say that I sew, yes, sew. It’s a very obsolete thing, but it’s something that I share with my grandma. Either way, if I get the necklace or not, it’s inspired me to make a cute pink and white rhinestoned dress! So thanks for posting!
I just love the heart-shapted donut. I have never seen one before, but now I’m on the lookout! I love the idea of a donut party! I think the next girls night theme has just been decided! :)
We are going to my parents for easter, then going to florida to visit my husband’s parents for my son’s spring break. Looking forward to some time off! I love a classic glazed donut:)
Cute necklace! I love doughnuts and actually attempted to make homemade ones last week, but they didn’t turn out :( I think I know what I did wrong though, so I’ll just have to try again! :)
This is one of the prettiest little necklaces I’ve ever seen! Honestly, my favorite donuts are my mom’s homemade ones! They have no holes in the middle, and really they’re just doughy fried pieces with confectioners’ sugar drowning the tops – but I love them none the less!
I’m glad you are feeling better and sorry to hear you were so sick.
It is 9pm and I’m drooling for a donut! I wish I lived closer to Georgia, I’m sad now that I’m soooo far away. My kids would love the oreo cookie donut. My all time favorite donut is from Cold Hollow Cider Mill in Vermont. Their donut is absolutely delicious! It’s a cake like donut but yet it’s still light, made with apple cider.
As far as Easter Sunday, we are having my in-laws and husband’s 95 year old grandmother over for dinner. We will have ham and the rest of the fixins and my favorite dessert of all time. Italian Rice PIE!!!!!!!! YUM
I think I love all doughnuts but rarely if ever eat them because I can’t eat just one. Now I realize just how crazy that is!! I’m eating a doughnut for Easter.
So glad to hear you are doing better.
The doughnuts look FABULOUS! I think they have to be my favorite dessert. I remember going to a quaint little doughnut shop back in Michigan every Sunday with my Grandpa. I would always get the nut covered doughnut with a chocolate milk. Wonderful memories.
I just discovered your site and I am hooked! I even made my first cake balls over the weekend. I will even be bringing some to my family’s Easter celebration next Sunday. We will be attending church and having dinner at my aunt’s house. I’m extra excited for Easter this year because its my daughter’s first Easter.
I love swarovski! So sparkly! I make jewelry, and I use their beads all the time.
The necklace is adorable! And here’s the deal–Atlanta holds a special place in my husband’s heart, and we’re planning on visiting sometime soon. You better believe I’m going to be a contributor to the places (or at least one place) we’ll go! Sublime donuts, here I come!
Hello! My name is Kaylee and i am a newly-found Bakerella fan. so far, i LOVE it!! i have already done some of your creative projects for bake sales and benefits. I am also newly married (Nov. 28) to my marine husband that lives in NC while I finish school in Atlanta. Baking is my way to forget about the distance and be creative to entertain my friends. I’m sure he hates that i do it when he’s gone!
Something interesting about me would be that i own 87 pairs of shoes. not including sandals. i know, its horrible. but i do wear them all! (eventually!) they are all organized by style and color, just like my tanktops, shirts, and underwear! i know its pretty ridiculous, but hey, i know where everything is!
congrats on all of your success!
Kaylee :)
Oh my word!!! I have to say that my favorite donut has always been a Boston Creme but being that I’m in GA, I’m going to have to hit up that donut shop some day…that would be awesome!!!
Doughnuts ARE my guilty pleasure, Ray’s doughnuts in St. Louis to be more specific. And that neclace is the cutest thing I have ever seen!
Glad you are better:) That necklace is so cute!
My absolute FAV donut is an old fashioned maple cake donut….mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I only have donuts once in a blue moon and when I do….it’s heavenly!
This Easter I will be spending it with my family. My two sister’s and their kids. All of us go to my parents for the day – eat and have a big easter egg hunt for the little kids. All the grandkids range in age from 21 to 5 years old.
Hmm this Easter I get to go home and visit family :) I’m living away from everyone for school so it’s a little tough but I love the time I get to go home to visit!
I don’t like the plain glazed ones– I’ve always been a cake donut kind of gal!
So glad you are on the mend! And these donuts look heavenly! Mocha, s’mores, peanut butter cup–I’m drooling!
I found your apple cake pops last fall and have been hooked on you ever since. I love baking because it keeps me connected to my mother who I lost about seven years ago. My husband got me a huge cupcake pan for Valentine’s Day, and I plan to make my first giant cupcake for Easter. Happy Easter!
I love apple fritters! That chocolate berry fritter looks amazing! But really they all do. I would have done the same as you tried them all. :)
So glad you’re feeling better, Bakerella! Something about me: I love spicy food and my kids do too. My 5 year old eats chipotle powder straight and my 1 year old eats pickled jalapenos.
I LOVE chocolate dip and jelly filled doughnuts. I have a major shoe fetish (esp. pretty stilettos) which my husband does not understand. I will spend Easter with my family celebrating my birthday. I have no real special talent beside the fact that I’m probably the WORLD’S biggest klutz. :P
And I’m sad to hear you’ve been sick and was in the hospital but really, really happy to know you are feeling better. :D
Just wanted to say I missed you last week and hope you feel better.
I’ve been learning to cook a lot, and making desserts is still my favorite thing to do!!!
My random factoid about myself is that I love jewelry that looks like food!
My eyes just lit up when I saw this post. I absolutely LOVE donuts. Probably more than cupcakes, pie, brownies, ice cream and candy combined! The only thing better than a fresh hot donut is a dozen fresh hot donuts.
My favorite donut flavor…apple fritter. It’s so tough to find a QUALITY fritter around here though. LOVE the necklace! Hope you’re back to feeling like your healthy self again soon!
that necklace is so stinkin’ cute! I love a good glazed doughnut!
I am a lover of all donuts. I also need orange juice to drink when I eat spaghetti!
So happy you are feeling better! I have a “thing” for donuts with sprinkles!
Thank you. I will now be drool-a-dreaming about that mocha A donut!!!!!! wa wa!
My fave is the good ol’ chocolate glazed. You just can’t beat it with a glass of milk.
Love your website! Read it often (and have tried some of your recipes), but this is my first post. Sometimes I can actually feel my waistline expanding just from looking at your pictures!
HOW MUCH DO I NEED THAT DOUGHNUT?!! You know how some people are obsessed with cupcakes? I’m obsessed with doughnuts. Seriously.
I’m an ATL girl myself and have been to Sublime. I went as soon as I heard of them (literally picked up and left). I went to Tech, so they’re right in my backyard! The caramel toffee is my fave.
I love doughnuts! A great light doughnut with a great glaze is my all time favorite. I am heading to New York City for the first time next week and hope to try out some of the great bakeries!
That necklace is beautiful!
Hi! I’m actually not here to enter this contest, I’m so glad you’re doing better! I was also wondering why you hadn’t posted last weekend, I had no idea about your health, thanks for sharing. Have a great Holy week!
I hope you are feeling much better! this easter i’m going to make homemade peanut butter dog treats so my boyfriend and I can have a “dog treat hunt” for our dogs :)
Sorry you’ve been sick. Feel better soon!
My fav donut??? I think I love ALL of them! But, maybe, just maybe, boston cream could be called my favorite! Or a plain ol’ Crispy Creme? Or a honey cruller? Mmmm! Donuts!
Today my husband and I decorated Easter Eggs with our 2 year old son!
I LOVE chocolate glazed long johns!! Thanks for the chance!!
Since I moved across the country from my family, I’ll just be making Easter dinner for my husband and two girls. I may try some bunny cake pops for the occasion. The girls will love them!
i am loving just LOOKING at those donuts!
now somebody needs to make me a cadbury cream-egg donut that would be divine!
for easter we are brunching at one of our favorite spots in cranbury, nj
Georgia is one of my favorite places ever. This is definitely a must-stop for our next trip!
My friend and I took a trip to ATL (we live in Augusta, GA) to retrace your sugar coma tour. We ate at Sublime doughnuts, and we were amazed! We LOVED the doughnut that had cream and strawberries inside. I also really loved the oreo doughnut and the orange and cream. My husband was lucky that any of the doughnuts made it home :)
I’m glad to hear that you’re feeling better!
I love to come and browse at your site. Thank you for all the joy you provide us, whether it’s just reading everything, or actually trying out some of the things you’ve shown us. I did do the edible pictures of our one year old buddy that has had so many heart surgeries…they had a benefit for her recently. I put the pictures on sugar cookies and dressed it up with frosting and clear sprinkles. You should have heard the raves…Thanks for the tips!
my guilty pleasure involved doughnuts… after a long night of call on the floors (i’m an intern @ a hospital), i’ll come home and stuff my face in doughnuts… at least five. no joke. it makes me feels wonderful! :)
Glad to hear you are getting back on your feet!
I’ll be studying for finals on Easter – boo! Maybe I should get some doughnuts to make it better . . .
I am terrified of public speaking, but not of doughnuts :)
I’m a purist when it comes to donuts. You can’t go wrong with a plain glazed donut that is done just right. But I would love to try all those different donuts. They look great.
That necklace is adorable! And the donuts look amazing!
Those donuts looked so good!! I made your cake pops for my quilt guild and everyone raved about them! I just love your blog and hope I win!!
thanks!
Oh man! Those have me drooling. I’m a fan of doughnuts, but lately I’ve been craving a cheese danish!
Wow, those doughnut look sooooo amazing! I don’t eat doughnuts often but those look irresistible. My favorite doughnut would have to be chocolate with roasted coconut.
Thanks for sharing!
how cute are those! Would love to win it!
this is a sublime post! I love donuts, especially cream filled ones! The necklace is so cute! I had chocolate and chocolate donuts this morning at church…two of ’em…:-p
We are going to visit family in Florida for Easter. I love a chocolate filled doughnut from Shipleys….alas there are no Shipleys here in Savannah…..have to settle for a Krispy Kreme.
First and foremost I hope you are doing better, secondly I just pre-ordered your book and will be waiting patiently for it to be released. Third, that necklace is darling…. :-)
Love your site. Something I think is quite normal but others find strange is that I only have white towels in my house. No colored ones ever. Bright white, super clean, with the faint smell of clorox. I’m a freak for white towels. Is that really so strange?
I wish I lived in Georgia so I could try those donuts!
I’m so looking forward to Easter, to spending time with family, and eating delicious food, and for the ham and bean soup I’ll have the week after. Yum!
Oh wow, is that necklace cute! I love it.
If I ever get to Atlanta, I’ll be skipping into Sublime doughnuts for sure.
Let’s see…something interesting. I’m very boring! Oh, I have one that you might like. Today, I met Syliva Weinstock! She is the grand dame, the Leonardo da Vinci of cakes. My sister is getting married in October and we went to the Four Seasons down in DC to meet with Ms. Weinstock so she can design my sister’s wedding cake.
She was totally tiny and super cool in person. Very pragmatic and practical–she gave my sister some great advice. Super cool.
Driesen’s in East Hampton NY make the best doughnuts. And that necklace is too cute for words!
Ever try a cereal donut??? Theres a place in NYC that makes different kinds, ie: coco puffs and rice krispies! All I can say is helloooo capn crunch!!
Those doughnuts look soo good. My favorite are Maple Long Johns from Der Dutchman.
I’m glad you’re feeling better!
I’d have to say my favorite donuts are either boston creme, or this delicious peanut butter chocolate donut my aunt once gave me.
But just to be original, I’ll tell you that I have the most amazing kitty with the fluffiest cheeks who loves to steal the icing off my baked goods XD
That necklace is DARLING by the way. I might have to go buy my own if I don’t win ^-^
You find the cutest stuff :) Soo lets see # of nuts… 862… joking. Well really, my favorite doughnut has to be any one with chocolate on the inside.
My favorite donuts are lemon triangles. Dee-lish.
I am very grateful that this Easter I get to share cream filled chocolate eggs with my three rocking nieces! Chocolate eggs are unrealistically hard to find in Asia, thank Goodness I have an amazing friend who sent me an Easter care package full of peeps and Cadburry eggs. It is taking all of my willpower not to eat them right now..
Ok, until I had kids I would never cry. Now everything makes me tear up . . . commercials, your story, lots of things. I’m so grateful for the life I have, for the right-here-and-now with my little kids, and, of course, donuts. ;-)
I hope your stay in the hospital was brief and not something you’ll have to repeat again anytime soon. And thanks for all of the lovely photos — you do a great job!
DOUGHNUTS ARE MY FAVORITE THING EVER. Oh man, my husband things I’m weird at how much I love them, but if they are ever around, I’m ALL over the them. My friends even know me well enough that they made me a doughnut cake for my birthday :) Best thing ever!!!
Sorry you have not been well…hope you are feeling better soon. Something about me is my niece is an organ recipient…Eight years ago she was given the gift of lungs..She has been so fortunate …Those of you reading this..sign up to be an organ donor today!!
