Today’s post was supposed to be something cute in time for Easter. Unfortunately, I didn’t do any baking this weekend or last. I’ve been sick and was in the hospital for a few days. Today is the first I’ve felt up to even getting on the computer. Thank you everyone that emailed wondering if I was ok. You don’t know how much that made me feel better. And I am better now. It just takes me a little longer to get over things.
Here’s why if you’re interested.
And, if you’re still looking for something bunny-related, then try this, this, this, this or this from previous years.
Now, luckily I still have last week’s post that never made its way live. It’s about doughnuts. Delicious decadent doughnuts.
You see, last year I was shooting some photos at a friend’s studio for the Cake Pops book coming out later this year. We started early in the morning and I hadn’t eaten yet. My friend offered me a doughnut. I was like yes. Perfect. When I opened the plain white box, there was only one doughnut left, curiously shaped like the letter A. An A doughnut? That’s kinda weird. Then he told me they were from the other day. Hmmmm. Do I want a who-knows-how-old doughnut? Yes. Yes. I did. I was hungry. So I threw it in the microwave for a few seconds to try and revive it. And, oh my. Oh my! OH MY! It was the best doughnut I’ve ever put in my mouth. The plain glazed A-shaped doughnut was filled with the most delicious mocha filling. I about died. Before I could even finish I was asking my friend where they came from.
But, he didn’t know. GASP. Someone had brought them to the studio for another shoot. And no one there knew the name or where they came from. Noooooo.
Just my luck, but probably a good thing for my waist.
Then weeks later, I was flipping through some magazines and found this little feature.
See.
No… not the cute owner. See the A doughnut on the left? It had to be the same place. Thank you for A-shaped doughnuts.
Finally, I found you.
Sublime Doughnuts in Georgia. We were reunited briefly in January. The doughnuts made an appearance on the Sugar Coma tour I attended where I was able to taste a few.
But I wanted more. I wanted to try all their flavors. So, weeks later. Like a couple of weeks ago. I finally made my way to Sublime.
I ordered a dozen for myself.
Each one different.
Like this Smores doughnut.
This Butter Toffee with Caramel Chocolate Icing.
And this Chocolate Wild Berry Fritter.
I had a doughnut party with myself and tasted them all.
Including this Caramel Apple Fritter, Red Velvet Cake and Dulce de Leche.
As well as this A-town Cream and Peanut Butter Cup doughnut.
Sublime has fab flavors and fun shapes like this Orange Dream Star. Delish.
And this Oreo doughnut with cream filling. Help.
And then there’s my old friend the A-Town Mocha. That’s A for Atlanta if you’re wondering. But I say A for Amazing.
Now, I just need to visit again to try the other dozen flavors that didn’t make it in my mouth.
Can you see, I’m all about doughnuts right now.
If you’re not convinced, take a look at….
this cute crystal-sprinkled pink doughnut necklace I found. Adorable, huh. It’s from the Alice in Wonderland collection at Swarovski.
I’ve never shopped at Swarovski until the other day. Cupcake Julie and I were at the mall and we peeked in.
Five minutes later I walked out with this cream colored doughnut necklace wondering what had just happened.
Impulse buying can be dangerous, but I love it and I’m glad I snagged it. So glad, I went online a few days later and ordered another one (This limited edition pink one) to give away. It’s just too dang cute not to share.
Want it? Come on. We can be dough nuts together.
Just leave a comment to this post on the site for a chance to win it.
All you have to do to be entered is to count the number of nuts on the Butter Toffee doughnut above. Just kidding. Let’s make this easy. Just tell me something about yourself. One winner will be chosen at random and announced sometime Tuesday evening on this post.

Wow. You guys never cease to amaze me. Reading your comments makes me laugh and sometimes makes me cry. But they always brighten my day. Thank you.
Now it’s time to reveal the winner chosen at random.
Yay Mel! Isn’t it fun being right. Now your hubby can be reminded of it everytime he looks at this cute little doughnut necklace around your neck. Congrats!
P.S. Julia – you must share a photo of your full sleeve arm tatoo dedicated to Mary Poppins. Fascinating.
Nice sharing well information cute guys keep it up.
Thanks admin,
actually I was searching for this from 3 hours in google.
awww…..so amazing
after seeing these pics…i am feeling hungryy….donuts are yummmyyyy :D
I’m so upbeat you are feeling better and posting once more. I weigh in verging on ordinary, and was beginning to ponder.
In any case, the donut is totally adorible, and my most loved flavor is really bavarian cream, however I have a tendency to pick coated or vanilla sprinkle in light of the fact that I’m ordinarily on my approach to class or work when I conclude that I need an espresso and donut. The bavarian cream is just much excessively chaotic with all that powdered sugar on top of it.
Yummy! I am feeling hungry after a hard and tiring work! n came here to see something special i can bake! Now i got thanks for sharing!
mmmm, i don’t think i could go another minute without an oreo donut!
I stumbled upon your site and love it! I’m mad at you now, however, because I work in Atlanta and had forgotten about Sublime. They’re absolutely as delicious as you state. I just didn’t need to be reminded of their sugary goodness!
Can you tell me the recipe of the donughts? I love them and they seems to be amazing and delicious! Can you email me?
Thanks!
Awww… So cute :3
ciaasto potworkowe!!
Sublime is the best! We found them when they offered a Groupon over a year ago. They’ve ruined me for any other doughnuts (well, except for a hot and fresh Krispy Kreme right off the conveyor belt).
plain old glazed.
The more airy and light the better!
You have truly inspired me w your Cake Pops book & website. Thank you!! I first made them for my son’s bday and they were’nt as hard as they look n they turned out great! After ive been making them for every occasion, and even making them just to eat them! I’ve try putting a half of the large marshmellow w the cake pops n then the good ol’ dippin of chocolate awesome !!!! I am truly a fan, look forward on seeing your new work!!
You ought to stop by Portland Oregon one of these days fir Voodoo Donuts, and some of my cooking~.
Hi,,, this is my first time to your site and I am amazed. I ( who does not bake very often) am going to try your recipe’s. I love the creativity.
Although I have recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, I still bake (occasionally ) for my family and can still imagine the taste of all of these things… ( sometimes I cheat, but, I will deny it if you tell anyone, lol) I think winning the necklace would be great because if I can no longer eat it,, I can at least wear it. Just a thought, I do try to convert some recipes to be low fat, low cholesterol or to be sugarfree. but that really takes a lot trial and error for someone who was never really been a baker to begin with.. kind of liked it but was never very good at it. So I try. Well that is my story. Just want to say again,, love your site.
I always seek out homemade doughnuts when I visit other towns. So, I was in Atlanta over the summer and found Sublime. You are right. Best doughnuts in the world!
I just went there yesterday and had the A-Town Mocha and peanut butter cup…so good!
There is a really funny Sublime Donut Cartoon on youtube right now, it looks like it was done by some of the adult-swim guys down the street from his store over there on 10th, the cartoon is funny and the donuts are amazing.
HOLY DONUT GOODNESS!!!! oh my lord. I need to find an excuse to roadtrip from Cali to Georgia secretly just to go to this donut shop. Every single one looks and sounds DIVIIIIIIINE!!!!!
My daughter was just admitted to Ga Tech, and when I saw that this donut shop is at the north end of the campus, I decided we’d definitely stop the next time we are there (we live 100 miles south). Last Sunday new students were invited for a game so my husband and I drove up with her and bought 3 donuts (by afternoon not much left to choose from). We had cookies&cream, butter brickle, and a mixed berry fritter, yum yum. We split them 3 ways so we could try each flavor. Very tasty donuts (altho pricy, 3 cost over $5).
thank goodness i live in atlanta and can eat sublime whenever i want!!
love you bakerella!
you should try Fractured Prune doughnuts. strange title, but AHMAYZING!!! They make them with less sugar, so they can put all sorts of yummy crap on the top!
oeeh soo delicious! And that necklace :O I have to have it!
I always wanted something from Swarofski, but it’s to expensive =( anyway, love your blog!
We were talking about donuts today in class, and my friend and I craved them like crazy. Later, the craving subsided somewhat, but seeing this . . . just triggered it again. :D
Love it.
i want the donut necklace!!!!!!!!
i make blueberry cake donuts with a tart lemon glaze…. they taste so amazing, like a gourmet Fruit Loop!!!!! mmmm, but a hot, glazed donut right outta the fryer is always pretty amazing as well. :)
A maple bar – no question! :)
I am SO lucky that you’re in the ATL area so I can visit all these “A”mazing places you introduce us too! I can’t wait for the Sublime Doughnut visit!
I love them yummm!!!!!!!! The necklace is adorable!!!!!!! Ok I am a baby hog.
I love them yummm!!!!!!!! The necklace is adorable!!!!!!!
I was so touched reading the link on your ORGAN DONATION story!!! I’m so glad you are doing BETTER. I’m so passionate about organ donation… For many years I wanted to donate a kindey— to a stranger— just because it felt like the right thing to do. Your post has really inspired me to look into that again. Thank you soooo much for spreading the word about donation!!! And those donuts look beyond lovely.
I can’t decide what looks better….the food or the jewelry ;)
I just gained 10 lbs from looking at this post.
I pray that you are doing better and back to your old Bakerella self.
Glad you’re getting better.
Hope you’re feeling even better soon! And those necklaces are just adorable:)
Are you doing better?
My father has been on hemodialysis for the past 8 years. He refuses to get a transplant (I am a match and have been offering to donate)
Baking is my favorite outlet and my favorite guilty pleasure is a spoonful of peanut butter dipped in brown sugar. Haven’t tried it? You should. Don’t worry, it’s good for you.
When I don’t have anyone to eat the things I bake I take them up to the workplace – now people order baked goods from me on a weekly basis. I’m 21, still in school, and already get paid to do the thing I love. I love keeping up with your website, your creativity sparks my creativity and keeps me motivated and excited about making new things.
Love it!!! Yum Yum Donuts….get well soon!
Hope that you are feeling all better really soon! Sorry for your rough times…
By the way, I just read the story about Savannah and your health trials and survival. I cannot even imagine having a sick child and knowing that their wellness depended on the generosity of strangers. Unbelievable. I hope you are doing better and know that others are thinking of you.
My favorite doughnuts are original glazed (I know! Boring!!!) orrrr Strawberry glazed with sprinkles!!! Mmmm…and although I’m a fan of ANY doughnut, I prefer them from independent doughnut shops more than commercial ones..theres just something better about a sweet little lady making doughnuts homemade-style, isn’t there?
Hi There,
Hope you are getting better!! Take care.
Something about myself… I’m a mom of four rescued dogs.
OMG I’m so glad I live in Atlanta!! When I read that Sublime was on 10th Street, I was like, where where?? And just my luck, it’s right on the edge of my campus!! XD After reading your post I made a trip there yesterday with my boyfriend and we got a dozen. omg omg omg. so good! I can’t wait to go back!! :D So far my favorites are the strawberry, the orange star, the oreo, and dulce de leche. And Kamal, the owner, was a really nice guy. (and about as yummy as his doughnuts, hehe)
Anyways, thanks for tipping me off about this place!! =) Hope you feel better soon!
YUM! Atlanta is a place I frequent, so I will definitely be stopping in the near future. The Butter Toffee looks delicious! Who am I kidding? All of them look delicious!
I am so jealous here on the west coast!!! I wish there were some yummy tasting donut treats near me!!!!! I hope you are feeling better soon Bakerella!!!
My mouth is watering up like crazy!!!
Here are my Easter attempts:

Somehow I missed you actually revealing your book in a previous post!! Glad that you’re releasing a book of your very own, I cannot wait to order it! Take care and be well.
I’m an Atlanta fan of Sublime, you must try the black and tan. Better than the rest……..
I am dough-NUTS for this post! Love doughnuts love that necklace and Im glad you are feeling better in time for easter…touching story and rethinking donation myself now (which if you knew me…is HUGE). Enjoy your holiday.
I love to make cuppycakes, I’m in Atlanta too, and I went to Sublime today to get doughnuts for my co-workers. I love that place! :)
Glad you are doing better.
The best dougnuts I have ever had (some of the very flavors you described) are from “Beyond Glaze” in Utah…YUMMY!!!
congrats mel……………………what a cute donut !!!!!
Cute necklace and of course the doughts made me salivate… on the other hand here is a bread bunny if you are bored ;)
http://polwig.com/cooking/bunny-bread/
OMG!!!I have NEVER seen doughnuts like this!! I feel the need to find some but KNOW my diet will not work if I do!
Omg omg omg omg omg!! Waaant doughnuts! Must have doughnuts! Craaaave doughnuts! :d
suuuuper cute!!!
The Alice in Wonderland Collection is so cute!
Just tell me something about yourself: I have a Wicked sense of Humor
Your favorite doughnut flavor? Pincones (cinnamon and sugar heaven)
Something you’re grateful for? A mom who stands up for truth
What you’ll be doing this Easter? Church and family time
Some usual or unsusual talent you have? I can sound just like Blue from Blue’s clues
How many pair of shoes you own? Umm No comment
Phobias? Spiders
Favorite guilty pleasure: Chocolate Fudge Brownie Ben and Jerry’s Ice cream
Surprise me: I picked to answer all of them!
Thank you Bakerella for sharing all your sweet fun even when you are not feeling 100%. I read your back post and wanted to say that I have a friend who has lupus and has already had 2 kidney transplants and is in need of another one. We pray for her as well as you. I hope you are doing better.
OK, seriously, is there ANYWHERE I can find copycat recipes of ANY of these donuts? There are no good donut shops in Northern VA and I would love to be able to make some at home. I have been dreaming of donuts since i read this post. It’s pure torture :(
I don’t have access to as wide a selection as you do, which is probably a good thing because I totally lack self-control with sweets! But I love peanut butter filled doughnuts with chocolate frosting.
Oh my! My mouth started watering looking at these doughnuts!!!! Wish I could get them in Sydney – but it is probably a very good thing that I can’t (I think I would double my weight)!!!
I’m glad you are well again and feeling better! I LOVE donuts!! I love dulce de leche, I make it home made all the time, the dulce de leche donut looks amazing and I wish I could try one, but have never seen one like it here in Washington State. It would be fun to learn to make a melt in your mouth donut and put the ducle de leche on as the topping. Yum!!!! You could even sprinkle some coconut on it!!! Woo Hoo!
OMG! I’m drooling. These donuts look so fabulously delicious and rich. I’m having a serious sugar craving right now! Must leave your site – quick!
P.s. Hope you’re feeling better soon:)
Woohoo! I’m in Georgia & heading to Atlanta next week & can’t wait to get some doughnuts from Sublime. I didn’t get to enter the contest on time, but the most interesting thing about myself is that I’m left handed & can write in cursive in mirror image just as easily & quickly as I can write the “correct” way. Hope you’re feeling better & that you & your family have a wonderful & Happy Easter! Thanks for all of your creative baking too!
This Easter my brother-in-law is getting married and we are all going to be together as a family.
i love maple dounuts!
I’m so happy you are feeling better and posting again. I check in almost everyday, and was starting to wonder.
Anyway, the doughnut is absolutely adorible, and my favorite flavor is actually bavarian cream, but I tend to choose glazed or vanilla sprinkle because I’m usually on my way to school or work when I decide that I want a coffee and doughnut. The bavarian cream is just way too messy with all that powdered sugar all over it.
JUST AMAZING doughnats,i love them all!!!and the necklace too!!!thanks
I’m thankful that they brought Dunkin Donuts to Arizona. Having grown up in Massachusetts, the DD capital of America, there is nothing better than a DD Bostom Creme donut. DROOOOL
For Easter this year, I will spend the morning working … but, after reading this, I may incorporate doughnuts into my plans.
Apple fritters!!!
My favorite doughnut is a peanut stick – which you cannot buy in AZ – at least not anywhere I have found, despite many years of hunting. :(
a.) I hope you’re okay
b.) 273 nuts or toffee pieces…really.
c.) I’m behind on my google reader…that’s something about me.
Oh my those look so yummy…
A fact about me. I never liked donuts until just recently. I’m 27 years old I despised donuts my entire childhood. Now we live across from a Dunkin Donuts and I don’t know if it’s that, or if my taste buds just came alive (late bloomers), but all I can say is mmmmmm, donuts! :)
I’m scared of birds. How’s that for a phobia. Not spiders, not snakes, just birds.
I’m so glad you’re feeling better. We miss you when you’re not here.
I am all over Sublime the next time I visit Atlanta – I have an excuse, my sister and her beautiful family live there.
Favorite doughnut, hmm…anything filled, except jelly. My everyday, run-of-the-mill doughnut would have to be an apple fritter – especially when the sides are slightly crispy!
Your food is ridiculous!!!! Every day at work I drool over my computer screen and pick out something to make the upcoming weekend.
I sent an email to Sublime to see if they shipped to NYC. I’m doubting it – but I had to try.
THANK YOU :-D
I want that necklace! That is the cutest thing I have ever seen!
These look amazing! I’ve have already instructed my sister, who lives in Atlanta, to make sure she stops by here. I live in a town in Texas that has a bakery that is famous for its doughnuts… Round Rock Donuts. They’re fantastic!
I love your method of sampling donuts. I think I need to try it. I always try to convince my family to all get different kinds so we can try everything but it never quite works out like I want it to…
I love coffee more than should be allowed… And you know what goes well with coffee?! DONUTS! Mmmm Especially cute pink donut necklaces :D
My Oh My! Where do I start? I love: doughnuts, the Kennedys, football, basketball, tennis, my church, my family, chipmunks, hedgehogs, FOOD, and Mike FM, my favorite radio station.
I WANT DONUT NECKLACE!
i love doughnuts… and necklaces!
Let’s see… I finally made the chocolate-and-toffee-covered-matzo that I heard of two years ago and have been waiting to encounter ever since? That’s reason to celebrate.
Bakerella, you are killing me with the cuteness! I would wear that donut necklace every day and never ever ever take it off, I swear.
