Today’s post was supposed to be something cute in time for Easter. Unfortunately, I didn’t do any baking this weekend or last. I’ve been sick and was in the hospital for a few days. Today is the first I’ve felt up to even getting on the computer. Thank you everyone that emailed wondering if I was ok. You don’t know how much that made me feel better. And I am better now. It just takes me a little longer to get over things.

Now, luckily I still have last week’s post that never made its way live. It’s about doughnuts. Delicious decadent doughnuts.
You see, last year I was shooting some photos at a friend’s studio for the Cake Pops book coming out later this year. We started early in the morning and I hadn’t eaten yet. My friend offered me a doughnut. I was like yes. Perfect. When I opened the plain white box, there was only one doughnut left, curiously shaped like the letter A. An A doughnut? That’s kinda weird. Then he told me they were from the other day. Hmmmm. Do I want a who-knows-how-old doughnut? Yes. Yes. I did. I was hungry. So I threw it in the microwave for a few seconds to try and revive it. And, oh my. Oh my! OH MY! It was the best doughnut I’ve ever put in my mouth. The plain glazed A-shaped doughnut was filled with the most delicious mocha filling. I about died. Before I could even finish I was asking my friend where they came from.
But, he didn’t know. GASP. Someone had brought them to the studio for another shoot. And no one there knew the name or where they came from. Noooooo.
Just my luck, but probably a good thing for my waist.
Then weeks later, I was flipping through some magazines and found this little feature.

No… not the cute owner. See the A doughnut on the left? It had to be the same place. Thank you for A-shaped doughnuts.
Finally, I found you.
Sublime Doughnuts in Georgia. We were reunited briefly in January. The doughnuts made an appearance on the Sugar Coma tour I attended where I was able to taste a few.
But I wanted more. I wanted to try all their flavors. So, weeks later. Like a couple of weeks ago. I finally made my way to Sublime.
I ordered a dozen for myself.
Each one different.
Like this Smores doughnut.
This Butter Toffee with Caramel Chocolate Icing.
And this Chocolate Wild Berry Fritter.
I had a doughnut party with myself and tasted them all.
Including this Caramel Apple Fritter, Red Velvet Cake and Dulce de Leche.
As well as this A-town Cream and Peanut Butter Cup doughnut.
Sublime has fab flavors and fun shapes like this Orange Dream Star. Delish.
And this Oreo doughnut with cream filling. Help.
And then there’s my old friend the A-Town Mocha. That’s A for Atlanta if you’re wondering. But I say A for Amazing.
Now, I just need to visit again to try the other dozen flavors that didn’t make it in my mouth.

I’ve never shopped at Swarovski until the other day. Cupcake Julie and I were at the mall and we peeked in.
Five minutes later I walked out with this cream colored doughnut necklace wondering what had just happened.
Impulse buying can be dangerous, but I love it and I’m glad I snagged it. So glad, I went online a few days later and ordered another one (This limited edition pink one) to give away. It’s just too dang cute not to share.

Oh, I wish I could eat all those doughnuts. We only buy doughnuts one morning during our summer vacation at the beach each year. It’s a tradition. My hips thank me for it.

So… something about me? I’m addicted to Big Bang Theory, Mythbusters and the popcap game Plants vs Zombies, and this Easter I’m hoping to make miniature chocolate chip & M&M cookies for my nieces (and some bigger ones for my husband too!).
I LOVE doughnuts! A doughnut truck just rolled into my town this past year, and my life will never be the same. This fine establishment is called Gourdoughs and if you are ever in the Austin area–heck, if you are ever in the great state of Texas–you should check out this truck. The first doughnut I tried was the Flying Pig–a huge doughnut covered in thick slices of local bacon and topped with maple icing. Amazing.
I stumbled on Sublime about a month after they opened. I live about five minutes away. Which is a good thing. And a bad thing. I am trying to lose weight (wonder why??), and my reward for every 10 pounds lost is a Sublime Donut. Every workout is worth it in order to have one of those morsels from heaven. I have honestly never had anything like the goodies that Kamal comes up with. I can’t pick just one favorite, but tops on the list are Orange Dreamsicle, Toffee, Strawberries & Cream and the Butter Croissant.
For anyone who lives within 300 miles of Atlanta, RUN, do not walk, to Sublime Donuts!!! It’s worth the trip!

I guess 219! lol. Actually I love dougnuts and I have fond memories of always getting a dougnut with my dad when he picked up his weekly lottery ticket in Wisconsin when I was a kid. However, I hate custard or jelly in my doughnuts. SO gross.

This Easter we’re headed up to the D.C area. It’s been 5-years since we’ve been to my in-laws house. Kinda have to go in order to avoid the wrath of guilt as we continue to visit my family several times each year.

donuts…love ’em and i have shared the love with my kids, in fact when my 20 month old son sees a pink box he is bound and determined to get a sprinkled covered treat…so stinkin’ funny. even when the box is empty he wants more. my favorite is a really, really good glazed donut. delicious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope you get to feeling better soon! I know how it goes… Since you’re talking donuts, I have to say that my favorite donuts are Shipley’s from Texas. I don’t know how many stores they had when I was little, it wasn’t many, but I do know they had one about two miles from our house and my Dad used to buy them for us. Now that I’m grown up they are all over Houston and my kids love them just as much as I did. We just get the plain glazed donut and OH!!! they are delicious! I’m just outside of Atlanta now, so poor me, I’ll just have to go and try these donuts now. :-)

I wish I lived closer to these donuts. :) Today we made a family trip to Krispy Kreme. The maddest I have ever seen my one year old was when she was about 10 months and she had a warm doughnut and my husband attempted to take it away from her to break it into bite-sized pieces. She informed him that his behavior was not acceptable – yelling, shaking her fists at him, whole nine yards. Needless to say, the doughnut gets broken before she gets her hands on it now. :)
In 7th grade, my friend and I used to eat Cheetos dipped in chocolate pudding. She recently told me on Facebook that she still eats them…

Hmmm….something about me…my favorite doughnut eating memory, perhaps? When I was a kid, my grandma (who lives in Vermont) had a huge maple tree in her back yard. Every year, we used to tap it for sap. It never gave up much sap, but it was enough to collect and boil down into a little bit of maple syrup. Just as the syrup was almost done, my grandma would send my sister and I outside with bowls to collect snow. We’d then drizzle the hot maple syrup over the snow and eat the sweet, gooey strips of it with homemade doughnuts and sometimes pickles (hey…it’s traditional).
I am wildly in love with an amazing man named Jared. I didn’t think this level of happiness was possible :)

K-yewt! This Easter I’m doing my usual crazy thing… making 50 crepes for everyone at church before the service. I don’t much like waking up at 6am to do it, but I love seeing the buzz such a simple thing creates, and what better way to celebrate than eating together!
I am a military Mom with three sons. One in the Navy, one going through Infantry basic training right now in the Army and a junior in High School planning to join as soon as he graduates. I am so thankful for all three of my sons and that God choose these three guys to be mine to raise.

I haven’t had donuts that fancy, but there is a local joint that makes the lightest glazed donuts with the perfect amount of frosting. There cake donuts are also great and not too heavy.
I’m grateful to have found myself again. I lost myself, my realy true Allie-essence for a few months… okay 6 months… and I destroyed a lot in the process. But, I’ve taken a step back and found what it really means to be “me” again and that being me is perfect in every way. I’m so grateful for that.

I’m grateful for my grandfather. He passed away Thursday and we were all by his side. His long fight with cancer allowed him to enjoy (seldomly) a good sweet dessert. He must have passed that on to me. He was a sweet man just like his sweet delicious brownies.

I have lived in Portland almost my entire life and just made it to the famous Voodoo Doughnut for the first time a couple weeks ago! I had the bacon maple bar. It is as amazing as you think.

I agree with Heather, #38, that the Frost Donuts in Mill Creek, N. of Seattle, have a bacon topped maple bar that is out of this world good. You wouldn’t think it but OMG! The Sublime Donuts sounds scrumptiously like Frost’s! Easter Sunday we’re going to be with family at my 86 year old Aunt’s home. She is an amazing woman who has a fuller calendar than most for which I’m grateful!
On Easter I’ll turn 40! I wasn’t so excited about it until my Mom said the alternative is death. In that light, I’ve decided that 40 won’t be to bad. I’ve been blessed with 40 years of amazing family, friends and adventures. I’m glad that they won’t be stopping anytime soon! Oh, and my favorite doughnut is cake with white frosting and coconut on top!!! The doughnut shop around the corner never makes enough of them.

when i was little my Grandpa McBrayer would take me to the Krispy Kreme on Buford Hwy in Doraville to get my favorite doughnut – the “Tractor Wheel” (also known as the cruller) My Grandpa is no longer with us and my metabolism doesn’t allow many tractor wheels anymore . .but, the two make for a favorite childhood memory!

I’m a traditionalist and love warm, freshly made donuts. That is until I saw the pictures of these donuts. Now I’m in love and have no idea what my favorite donut is. <3

This fine Easter I will be baking cakes and all sorts of things. As I am a pastry apprentice. In fact, in the doughnut vein, for Fat tuesday I made paczki (sounds like poonshki) for 14 straight days. They are cream filled polish doughtnuts made with a sweet dough with candied orange bits inside. So for 9 hours a day, everyday, I stood over a fryer and fried, glazed and filled doughtnuts. And I still love them.
PS – go to portland oregon to Voodoo Doughnut. You can even get married there!
I have 64 pairs of shoes. It’s a problem; donuts help. And I want that Atown Mocha bad-boy so bad I can taste it…not really because I’m eating pineapple pizza but you know what I mean :)
My guilty little secret… i just ate some delicious chocolate bunny treats that I was supposed to put in eggs for my kids to find on Easter… OOPS ;)

I love donuts! My friend use to work at Dunkin Donuts, so I got to play around and fill donuts. It takes about 4-5 fills from the machine for them to burst. I think we had a little too much fun! :)
I never met a doughnut I didn’t like, but I’m quite fond of Shipley’s plain glazed. If I go the right way, it’s totally on my way to work. I’m looking at your photos cursing the fact that they’re closed on Mondays right now.

Doughnuts are actually a really guilty pleasure of mine. I almost don’t enjoy them because I feel so guilty for eating one! We have a Krispy Kreme and I won’t go near it because I can’t just order one, I get like 4. lol!

id planned to cook this weekend past, but i got sick aswell..not as badly as you, just a cold. But then i went to a party and it got worse (obviously, i didnt expect it to get better but still) so now i cant cook this week for easter and im feeling slightly depressed. My favorite doughnut used to be the white cream filled doughnut at Dunkin Donuts. Then, they started closing down the shops in Quebec; I was so sad! But then I came to Japan and Mr Donuts has this “Angel cream” donut that is EXACTLY like the one I used to love!! Too bad I’m leaving Japan…

Glad your back! Hmmm, I guess I’m a purist when it comes to doughnuts, I like the one with chocolate frosting. I always eat the bottom doughy part, and then eat the top so there is a higher frosting to dough ratio. I’ve only met one other person who shares my weird doughnut-eating strategy!

I love raspberry filled but it’s been a long time since I’ve had a good one of those. I also recently started liking the chocolate glazed cake donuts. Never tried them before and once I did I was hooked. Good for my taste buds… bad for my love handles.

Me and my friends back in high school used to have movie/video game nights, and almost every time we would decide we were hungry and go on a midnight Walmart run for doughnuts and Mountain Dew. One of my favorite memories.

I won’t be doing anything really for Easter. My sister is having a birthday so I am in the midst of upgrading my violin to send to her as a gift. After so many years of not playing and struggling to give it to her (lots of cherished memories with that violin), I thought it would be wonderful to give it to someone who is taking up the instrument. Something about myself… Doughnuts were my weakness during my last pregnancy. I could rationalize that no one could tell since I was pregnant. Now, with a 5 month old and a doughnut tummy/arms/face, I’m suddenly seeing the result of my cravings. But dang they were good. Maybe I should stick to doughnut necklaces until my elliptical and I catch up to my doughnut-induced pudge.

Those donuts look amazing, but I gave up a while ago trying to find donuts that don’t have some sort of soy in them (I have a soy allergy). I sometimes make my own and my daughter and I made the best apple cider donuts!!! They were addicting!

Atlanta has such a great junk food scene! I live in A2, Mi so the A doughnut is perfect, haha! But our doughnut scene is pretty sad, I think the gas station or grocery store is about all we have going on. Anyways, thanks for this giveaway! This Easter I will be making three family favorite desserts in honor of the two grandparents I have lost so far this year and my grandmother who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. Apple Pie, Checkerboard Cake, and Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies. It’s amazing how so many memories can be formed around baked goods!!!

I love this site and I come often. I usually don’t comment, because I’m shy, its funny but true. I had to say that I am so glad you are doing well. That you are having your sweet 16. My niece is 8 years old and 2 years ago she became sick and it was cancer. She had a liver transplant and today she is so full of life. She is back on a donor list, she needs a new liver and kidneys, but she’s alive and bouncing and sweet. I’m grateful to have her. I can’t wait to send her something sweet on her second sweet 16. Thank you so much. (Off to make those donor pops!)
