Today’s post was supposed to be something cute in time for Easter. Unfortunately, I didn’t do any baking this weekend or last. I’ve been sick and was in the hospital for a few days. Today is the first I’ve felt up to even getting on the computer. Thank you everyone that emailed wondering if I was ok. You don’t know how much that made me feel better. And I am better now. It just takes me a little longer to get over things.

Now, luckily I still have last week’s post that never made its way live. It’s about doughnuts. Delicious decadent doughnuts.
You see, last year I was shooting some photos at a friend’s studio for the Cake Pops book coming out later this year. We started early in the morning and I hadn’t eaten yet. My friend offered me a doughnut. I was like yes. Perfect. When I opened the plain white box, there was only one doughnut left, curiously shaped like the letter A. An A doughnut? That’s kinda weird. Then he told me they were from the other day. Hmmmm. Do I want a who-knows-how-old doughnut? Yes. Yes. I did. I was hungry. So I threw it in the microwave for a few seconds to try and revive it. And, oh my. Oh my! OH MY! It was the best doughnut I’ve ever put in my mouth. The plain glazed A-shaped doughnut was filled with the most delicious mocha filling. I about died. Before I could even finish I was asking my friend where they came from.
But, he didn’t know. GASP. Someone had brought them to the studio for another shoot. And no one there knew the name or where they came from. Noooooo.
Just my luck, but probably a good thing for my waist.
Then weeks later, I was flipping through some magazines and found this little feature.

No… not the cute owner. See the A doughnut on the left? It had to be the same place. Thank you for A-shaped doughnuts.
Finally, I found you.
Sublime Doughnuts in Georgia. We were reunited briefly in January. The doughnuts made an appearance on the Sugar Coma tour I attended where I was able to taste a few.
But I wanted more. I wanted to try all their flavors. So, weeks later. Like a couple of weeks ago. I finally made my way to Sublime.
I ordered a dozen for myself.
Each one different.
Like this Smores doughnut.
This Butter Toffee with Caramel Chocolate Icing.
And this Chocolate Wild Berry Fritter.
I had a doughnut party with myself and tasted them all.
Including this Caramel Apple Fritter, Red Velvet Cake and Dulce de Leche.
As well as this A-town Cream and Peanut Butter Cup doughnut.
Sublime has fab flavors and fun shapes like this Orange Dream Star. Delish.
And this Oreo doughnut with cream filling. Help.
And then there’s my old friend the A-Town Mocha. That’s A for Atlanta if you’re wondering. But I say A for Amazing.
Now, I just need to visit again to try the other dozen flavors that didn’t make it in my mouth.

I’ve never shopped at Swarovski until the other day. Cupcake Julie and I were at the mall and we peeked in.
Five minutes later I walked out with this cream colored doughnut necklace wondering what had just happened.
Impulse buying can be dangerous, but I love it and I’m glad I snagged it. So glad, I went online a few days later and ordered another one (This limited edition pink one) to give away. It’s just too dang cute not to share.

I love all donuts. I seriously don’t discriminate. However, my current favorites are white cake donuts with white icing and rainbow sprinkles from Casey’s General Stores (a gas station chain in the midwest… but their cake donuts are AMAZING). OOO – and I have LOTS of shoes… probably 200 pair :) It’s a problem, I admit.

My most guiltiest pleasure? Anything DARK chocolate! OMG, I could eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I could wear it and be bathed in it. Add a lil’ mint to it, and I’ll be your love slave. Cover some cherries in it and I’ll be putty in your hands. Enrobe strawberries with it and you will never see the end of me. Yes, it’s all I practically think about…..I cannot, will not, should not go a day without it. My wife knows about this love affair and it’s the only one she approves of (LOL!). She, too, has a sweet tooth, but not as big as mine; HOWEVER, I would love to surprise her with this beautiful pendant/necklace.

A couple of weeks ago I went on sort of a diet/cleanse for two weeks…no sugar, no flour…basically no happiness!
So what did I do? I read just about every recipe you’ve ever posted. And tortured myself. So much for cleansing. Now that the two weeks are over, I just can’t decide what to bake first!

This Easter, I’m getting married. On the first of April, actually. :) Excited.
My favorite flavor donut is a plain old-fashioned cake donut (though I love fancier varieties, also!). The faint cardamom flavor instantly reminds of being little, eating them by the fistful after church on cozy Sunday mornings.

I’m a cake donut girl…there’s a place in MD you have to try called the Fractured Prune. All donuts made to order and the are A-mazing. I suppose I now have to make my way over to sublime to see if they stack up (I also read that Atlanta Magazine article and have been thinking I should try a few dozen as well).
We will be spending Easter with family in Phoenix. Should be interesting.

Doughnuts are my weakness. And with all of the choices out there, glazed are my favorite! My exercise routine unfortunately takes me past our town bakery (I’ve really got to fix that!) and while I keep walking, I can feel my weakness taking over and while I don’t actually eat one I can still feel the thought of it on my butt. :O lol
Well, for Easter, we’ll be hosting our annual Eggstravaganza at our home for all our friends and family. We dye eggs, have multiple egg hunts and then settle in for a yummy dinner.

Right now, I have to say I am the most grateful for K-Mart. I know that is probably something weird to be grateful for, but this past weekend I decided that I HAD to buy some new clothes. I absoluetly HATE shopping for clothes, but I actually found a lot of really cute stuff that FIT! It was the most stress free shopping I have ever had and it made my entire weekend!

You had me worried.I’m so glad you are feeling better.Last week i made tiny cupcakes by baking red velvet dough in silicone ice cube trays.Then i covered the bases with chocolate and the tops with pink creamcheese icing, for a little girl’s 1st birthday.They were a huge success!

I LOVE that necklace (silly charms and such are my favorite!)!! My favorite doughnut is key lime pie from Krispy Kreme. Delicious key lime filling with crumbled graham crackers sprinkled on top… yum.
My husband is a fourth year med student, he starts his externships next week. His first is in New York and my four daughters and I will be joining him for one of the for weeks thanks to Spring Break! So we will be spendind Easter with the six of us in a one room resident apartment, can’t get better than that!!

I’m suddenly missing the Choco Caramel Crunch of Hot Loops Donuts, a donut chain in the Philippines. It had a caramel filling and chocolate frosting, and was sprinkled with chocolate cookie bits. Best donut I’ve ever tasted, although it looks like I must do more exploring!
My fav donut is a hot, fresh, right off the assembly line Krispy Kreme. When I was growing up, if ever we saw the “Hot donuts now” sign on, we always, always stopped in, no matter where we were going. .

How adorable! I grew up with donuts – my uncle and cousins own a donut place, my brother is the fry-boy, my mom is the donut decorator. My first job was there, cleaning and helping customers. There is no way I could pick one single favorite donut, because there is not a donut I don’t like. You’d think I’d be sick of them after 29 years, but you can never get sick of good donuts.

Bakerella, I’m so sorry you were sick! Baking is much more fun when your not sick haha! I love allllllll donuts equally, I can’t pick a fave! But I do have a kinda strange phobia…I don’t mind hair when it is attached to your head, but when loose hair starts falling out it really really freaks me out! Like to see random hairs laying on the ground or other places….gross!
favorite doughnut would be Boston Cream….and for Easter Treats I’m making chocolate macroons they look like bird nests..placing little Cadbury mini eggs in the center make them really look like a bird’s nest and they look so pretty on the table.

I have a funny donut story to share… When my husband was younger and still living at home, his parents would go to church early Sunday morning but first would go get a dozen donuts, drop them off at home to enjoy later. My husband would wake up while they were gone, go downstairs and have a donut, then go back to bed, unbeknownst to his mother. This happened two weeks in a row. Well, his mom decided after two weeks of only getting 11 donuts instead of 12, she was going to call the bakery and complain. Right in the middle of her conversation with the bakery my husband walks in and says, “Uh, mom I ate the donuts…” She was mortified and never went back to that bakery again!

I’m so glad to know you’re feeling better. I can completely relate to being sick often, and once sick, staying sick for quite awhile! About 6 years ago, I had a REALLY bad case of mono, and unfortunately my immune system has simply not been the same. If there’s a sickness to be had, I get it! In fact, right now I’m fighting a terrible cold and am preg…. and desperately wishing my immune system could muster up some strength! =)

Glad you’re feeling better! You know, while this may be a cardinal sin, I don’t like doughnuts. I love sweets, I love everything about the concept of doughnuts, but every time I eat one I feel sick. So don’t pick me to win, because obviously I’m a moron.
I’m going with something positive – what I’m thankful for. I am so very thankful for the wonderful family I have – a good husband and 2 beautiful and sometimes perfect kids. Not to just remind myself of that when they are driving me crazy…. :o)
Oh, and FWIW, my fav doughnut is a yummy PB cup donut from a local place here in Bucks County, PA – Yum Yum. If you are ever in this neck of the US I highly recommend you give them a try!

Perfection! Goes great with coffee :)

Those doughnuts look wonderful! Several years ago we lived at the beach and our favorite thing to do on the weekends was head over to Krispy Kreme and then go eat our doughnuts by the water. (There were seating areas at every public access, so no sand on our doughnuts!! ) Sometimes we’d even get to see the dolphins!!

I’m grateful for having a wonderful Mom whom I got to watch bake and cook. My Mom died five years ago next month and since her death, I’ve turned in to a “Baking Fool!” I feel like she is right there in the kitchen with me, telling me when I need to add “just a little more vanilla extract” to a recipe or “take the cake out of the oven now!” Easter was the last holiday we spent together…so I’m grateful and thankful for my wonderful Mom!!! And Bakerella, thanks for giving me so many ideas to try!!

Its been years since Ive eaten a donut. I remember eating Munchkin donuts from Dunkin Donuts as a kid and the plain ones were always my favorite. I always liked them because they reminded me of fried dough you get from the carnival. Oooh! That would be an exellent donut!! Ok, I need to stop.

The boyfriend loves sending me Swarovski things for Yule. We’re doing the long distance thing until I can get myself a visa for the UK. Usually he is spot on with his selections. This year he sent me a star pendant. I love 2 things in this world- cupcakes and stars. This star, unfortunately has a sort of creepy face. I can’t bring myself to wear her. I thought giving her a fun name would bring me closer to her, so I named her Lola. I’ve worn her once. Not sure if I can do it again. I will take a photo of her and post it on your FB Wall so you can see her,.. I want to love her- I really do!

Making Easter Lunch this year. Turkey,ham, my famous meatballs and perogys,not forgetting Holopchi.Have four granddaughters that I would do anything for. Our church, Oak Leaf, held an Egg Drop this past Sat with over 8,000 people attending. We dropped 100,000 eggs out of a helicopter. Very cool!
Donuts= Wonder Childhood memories!!
My family had a donut shop when I was around 3 years old. Most of the family worked there at some time or another. Nowadays everyone seems to have forgotten those days. Except me!! I think thats where my love of sweets and baking started. Hopefully one day I will have a little shop of some sort so I can make those kind of memories for my daughter!

When I was a little girl, my dad used to take my brothers, sister and me to the doughnut shop every weekend and let us pick out whatever doughnuts we wanted. We always had a variety… frosted ones, some with nuts, some with sprinkles… jelly filled and powdered. They never made it to the house because we ate them in the car on the way home. LOL

Not something about me but my 4 year old son…he doesn’t like donuts! What? A kid that doesn’t like doughnuts..is it possible? He licks off the crosting (the way he says frosting) and leaves the best part!

I just found out the other day that my oreo truffles are “legendary”. I’m in a scholarship program at my college and every March we have a weekend that the finalists come and stay with current scholars and visit campus. Last year I made oreo truffles for them, the first night – and apparently they made an impression – people are DEMANDING them this year :) Which is very, very cool. So, thanks, Bakerella.

There used to be a bakery in my hometown that sold “fried cinnamon” doughnuts! They were the BEST! Anyone who ever lived in my town remembers them! Unfortunately for my waistline, I continue to try and find one that is close….

Favourite donuts are jelly and pink iced with sprinkles!!
We have a little local doughnut shop that makes orange juice doughnuts that are out of this world. So moist, you keep waiting for the juice to ooze out of them. Amazing. They also “invented” a doughnut for me when I was pregnant that had lemon and raspberry jelly filling, lemon glaze and cream cheese. It’s fantastic, although, I don’t think anyone but me has ever had one.

This Easter I am giving macarons a second try! They will be purple and yellow, with pearl dust… or so I hope!
I’ll go in keeping with the doughnut theme… I think my favorite would be the doughnuts from Dunkin Doughnuts that have white frosting with chocolate stripes through it. I’d always get one of those along with a chocolate one when I was a little girl and my mom and I would go there for breakfast after dropping my dad off at the train station… one of my favorite memories from when I was younger. :)
Something about myself–I have a baking addiction. ;) I love to bake. My friends are starting to use my talents and this weekend I was coming up with some cupcakes to make for a bridal shower. I came here for inspiration and ended up making the snickerdoodle cupcakes (snickerdoodles are my FAVORITE cookie). Yum!! I even made an milk/egg-free version for my daughter who is allergic. I love all the ideas on here, I wish I could try them all!

Ever since I was little I loved the donuts with the coloured sprinkles! I still feel like a kid whenever I order one, but I just have to have one–nothing else compares!!!

We’ll have 10 at our table this Easter. I’ll be cooking ham, spinach souffle, macaroni and cheese, deviled eggs, yeast rolls. Haven’t decided on dessert. I always have fun decorating the tables with old family silver, linens, china, and crystal with lots of “new” bunny touches. It’s so much fun.

My son works at a donut shop and when he is on close-up duty Sunday nights he brings home some of our favourites (the rest are thrown out) I usually get a double chocolate or toasted coconut but these Sublime donuts look like something else! I think I want to try the Orange Dream Star and the A-Town Mocha. Right. now.
My hubby and I live far from our favorite dough nut shop, but always make it in when we drive the 700 miles to visit my folks. Now we’ll have to stop in Atlanta for Sublime!! I’m not sure if I should thank you or not for my soon-to-be-expanding waistline!

Doughnuts, what can I say. I grew up eating my grandmothers friedcakes made with mashed potatoes. yummmm. Powdered sugar shaken all over them served with cider. What a meal!!!! Never could duplicate them either.

I’m a “cake doughnut with frosting and sprinkles” type of girl… I could probably eat a whole box if set in front of me. Sadly, my pregnant self gets to sick when I eat anything really sweet, so no doughnuts for me for a while. But, maybe that’s a good thing :D
