Cookies or cupcakes? That is the question.
Well, I couldn’t decide either. You see I’ve been mesmerized by a recipe for snickerdoodle cupcakes from Martha Stewart’s Cupcake Book. But, seeing as how I have never made snickerdoodle cookies, I had to make them, too. It’s only fair. Or at least it’s a good excuse… right?
These cookies were really easy to make and I’m not sure why I’ve never tried them before now. Maybe their name made them seem difficult or too fancy or something. Or, maybe it’s because they don’t have any chocolate in them. Yeah, that’s probably why. Recipes without chocolate usually get moved to the bottom of the list.
The cookie dough is rolled in cinnamon and sugar, which gives them their signature look when baked.
Simple and pretty!
Here’s the original Snickerdoodle Recipe from marthastewart.com. It makes about 4 dozen cookies.
And here is how I tweaked it slightly to make about 20 cookies.

Here’s the original recipe from marthastewart.com that makes 28.
And here is how I tweaked it slightly to make enough for 12 cupcakes and 12 mini cupcakes (not shown).
Make this seven minute frosting. To decorate, pipe on frosting, place one cookie on top and then pipe another dollop of frosting on top. Sprinkle with leftover cinnamon and sugar from the Snickerdoodle cookie recipe. Store in an airtight container.

While the cupcakes are cooling, make the frosting. I used the same one Martha recommends. It’s a Seven-Minute Frosting. Recipe here.
I’ve gotta tell you… I’d definitely make the cookies and cupcakes again… they were yummy. But I think I would have to try them with another frosting. The seven minute frosting was kind of a pain to make and couple that with the fact that I’m not a big fan of light and airy or meringue-tasting frostings… well, I don’t think I’ll be making it again anytime soon.
But they sure do look cute.

OK… TIME’S UP! I actually started counting all of the entries to see how many people wanted the cupcake book vs. how many wanted the cookie book. But, I stopped after a couple hundred comments because there was no way I would be able to get that done tonight in time to announce the winner. Snickerdoodles were the very first cookie i was allowed to bake by myself. I remember looking through my mom’s Betty Crocker CookBook and the name just appealed to my 7or8 yr old self. They have become my standard cookie and i always triple the batch whenever I make them. As for which book I would choose? Do I have too? lol well if you twist my arm I would have to pick the cupcake book this time. Thanks :o)

Probably the cookie book as my daughters and I have a cookie exchange every December and I am always looking for a good cookie to bake. This has become a real tradition among our friends.
I would love to have the Marth Stewart Cupcake cookbook. I have a friend who has the book and says that the recipes are wonderful.. I love making cupcakes they seem so very special, just for the person who is taking the BIG BITE.

I would love to have either of these books but really…..That cupcake book looks right up my alley. My husband and I have been doing the new fad crazy HCG diet. We have both lost a ton of weight on it. One of the main reasons I think we have lost the weight is cutting out sugar for the past two months. We are coming up very quickly on our “off maitenance” of the diet and the one thing I have wanted for the past 35 days is the BEST, the BIGGEST, the PRETTIEST cupcake I can find…Making a fabulous recipe from Martha’s book would be so fun. I think I deserve this book since…while I have been dieting… I have made my children several sets of fun cupcakes and they devoured them in front of me and I didn’t even grimace once. I also took several cupcakes to neighbors.. Little did they know that it was a plan of mine so I didn’t have extra sweets sitting around my kitchen to be consummed when no one was watching.

Both books are great and it makes it hard to choose although I like baking cupcakes, I think cookies are easier to package for gift giving during the x-mas season. mmmm unless you post a really creative way to package up cupcakes….I cant wait for your next post :D

Honestly I’m more of a cookie kind of girl….don’t get me wrong I do love cupcakes. It’s just cookies are easier to hide in your pockets, or shove in your mouth when my husband or little ones come around….as a mom I don’t get much to myself so I sneak cookies when I can…. :O)
