Cake, baby!
Yes, this post is all about delicious cake, but just not the kind you eat.
It’s about the kind you can carry. I found this decadent purse online and just fell in love. First with the name of course, and then with the design. It’s from Petunia Pickle Bottom.
But, it’s not just a purse. It’s also a diaper bag. That’s right. Inside this not so little red number is a fold out changing pad, room for diapers and a plastic case for wipes. No one would ever guess. Unless of course they, too have had some cake.
Now, don’t feel like you’ve gotta go and get pregnant just to carry this purse. Petunia Pickle Bottom made the changing pad detachable so you can carry Cake even if you don’t have a little one in tow for a reason.
Did I mention the matching coin purse? Sweet.

I love carrot cake! Mmmmmm. I homemade one for my grandma for her birthday last year. I even shaved the carrots. I had yellow palms to prove it. ;)

Homemade pound cake with real butter (sorry my sweet mother in law but it totally makes the difference). Add wither fresh lemon juice or a smidge of almond (either / or …not both) and it’s over the top. Give me the crunchy sweet top layer and my word, I could be in real trouble. : )

My favorite cake is this delicious cake a bakery near my parents’ house made for my wedding. It had fresh orange juice in it, mandarin orange pieces, and the most delicious frosting that also had orange in it. My grandmother’s Lemon Supreme cake would be a close second!!
Oooooh! My husband and I are about to start trying for a baby (in May), so this would be perrrrfect!

I totally fell in love with the concept of carrot cake when I was staying in South Africa. It’s not very common in Holland and most of my friends and family thought I as crazy, but after a thorough introduction most of them are completely converted. So for me definately: carrot cake with cream cheese frosting and a sprinkle of chopped nuts on top!
“Neapolitan Cake” – my mom makes it every year for my birthday! It’s fabulous!!
1 Chocolate & Vanilla Marble Cake Mix
1 Box Raspberry Jello
1 Box Jello Cheesecake Instant Pudding
2 C. Cold Milk
1 Tub Cool Whip
? Make marble cake according to directions on box
? Immediately after cake is done, poke it full of holes with a fork
? Dissolve raspberry Jello into 1 C. hot water & pour all over cake
? Cool in refrigerator
? After cake is cooled, make cheesecake instant pudding with milk, let the pudding set up in the fridge
? Frost cake with mixture of pudding and cool whip

My favorite cake is coconut. White cake layers that have coconut milk baked in, a touch of rum simple syrup, and a candy coconut filing (like in Almond Joys) topped off with a vanilla buttercream. So delish! I made this cake for my own wedding. Too bad I was too busy to eat much of it!

This cake has been in my family for over 30 yrs. My mom got the recipe out of the St Louis Post – called Waldorf Astoria red – and not with cream cheese…you have to have the fluffy wonderful cooked frosting that whips up very light….

Until the age of 21, I spent every Christmas with my grandparents. The day after Christmas is my birthday — not much celebrating ever took place. But my grandmother always had a coconut cake for me. Last week though I was feeling a bit guilty that as a true southerner I’d never made Red Velvet Cake. I decided Valentines Day was the perfect time to add it to my repitoir. I made the cutest little cupcakes with the most delicious icing! I finished them off with some of Martha’s red sanding sugar. Voila…cute, cute! I let them stand awhile on the counter while I went to feed the dogs. As I was in the yard, I realized one dog was missing – guess where I found him? Those cupcakes must have smelled mighty good – he had nudged my door open and was having a feast of cute little cupcakes. That boy snarfed down half of them before I knew it! He was in big trouble but had a huge smile on his face regardless. I managed to salvage a few cupcakes for us – and I can’t say that I blamed to dog too much for not being able to resist them! They were pretty dog-gone good!
