Cake, baby!
Yes, this post is all about delicious cake, but just not the kind you eat.
It’s about the kind you can carry. I found this decadent purse online and just fell in love. First with the name of course, and then with the design. It’s from Petunia Pickle Bottom.
But, it’s not just a purse. It’s also a diaper bag. That’s right. Inside this not so little red number is a fold out changing pad, room for diapers and a plastic case for wipes. No one would ever guess. Unless of course they, too have had some cake.
Now, don’t feel like you’ve gotta go and get pregnant just to carry this purse. Petunia Pickle Bottom made the changing pad detachable so you can carry Cake even if you don’t have a little one in tow for a reason.
Did I mention the matching coin purse? Sweet.

LOVIN’ it! As for cake, I have to be reduced to just one fav? Impossible! There’s chocolate cake w/ fudgy choc. icing. There’s angel food cake. There’s tunnel of fudge cake. There’s apple or pumpkin spice cake with caramel icing. And the list just goes on and on!

Now, my husband would always go with a devil’s food / cream cheese icing (but only because you can’t find sour cream icing on the shelf anymore), but I have to go with a classic white cake with a white Italian buttercream.. light and sweet but rich and indulgent… I really wish we hadn’t decided to go low carb this year!

Would have to say Chocolate Raspberry Cake though I rarely meet a cake I don’t like!
My favorite kind of cake is classic pound cake, with just a thin layer of icing on top. It’s the kind of cake my mom always made for my birthdays, hers would bake about 9 or 10 inches high in a vintage tube pan, set out on a clear glass cake stand with a beaded edge. Of course if you’re not making your own, you can’t beat pound cake from Stock’s, a famous bakery in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia.

I know you get this all the time, but absolutely love your website! Not only are your creations amazing, but your posts are really encouraging for those of us who don’t have any professional training.
I’m sure you’re extremely busy thinking up your next creation, but I just wanted to ask your opinion about a cake. I was asked by a good friend of mine to make their wedding cake and I’m getting really nervous about it (coming up in April!). I have confidence with the cake itself, but I am horrible at decorating. I have tried making cakes with buttercream before, but it never comes out clean and smooth (I’ve definitely seen buttercream cakes that look like they’re made with fondant)… because of that I am also toying with the idea of fondant, but honestly it intimidates me.
Anyway, I was just wondering if you might have any book recommendations for cake decoration. I’m not going for anything super advanced, but something with visual help and good advice would really help me out. I looked on amazon and on your homepage as well, but there are just so many choices. I don’t live in the States, so it’s not like I can run to a bookstore to flip through the book.
If you have any recommendations for good cake decorating books, it would be greatly appreciated… thanks!!
Oh and by the way, I love Red Velvet cake… I used your red velvet cake pops recipe, cut them out into heart shapes and dipped them in white chocolate. Then I used those and some chocolate dipped strawberries to decorate a birthday cake last week. Yummy!

Guilty pleaseure – I love the cheap cakes at the grocery store bakery. Any flavor doesn’t matter, but I really like the sickly sweet and almost greasy frosting.
My all time favorite cake is Carrot Cake with cream cheese frosting. All that spicyness (Is that even a word? It is now.) and the nuts and raisins….ummmmm. I’m hungry for one now!

Actually, my favorite cake is red velvet! My grandma was a southern girl with a penchant for sweets and she made the most absolutely decadent red velvet cake I’ve ever had… TWO whole bottles of red food coloring went into the batter! With a nutty cream cheese icing, man it was delish. Her pecan pies were to die for as well, as well as her sour cream pound cakes and … well anyways. She was fabulous and we still have most of her dessert recipes.
