I made some tiny sugar cookie sugar cookies for you.
Tee-niny!
Yes, I love little and I kinda like to play with my food… But I’m sure you know that about me by now.
And you probably know that I made more than just baby cookies.
They’re cute on their own, but I really needed them to put on display.
On these 3-tier sugar cookie dessert stands I made.
EEek! Cookies on cookies. Key-ute.
I love sugar cookies since they require a few basic ingredients that I almost always have on hand.
They can be baked in no time – especially with the recipe I’ve been using from my friend Bridget at Bake at 350. It’s been my go-to recipe lately. I love hers because nothing has to be set out to room temperature. And her dough doesn’t need to be chilled before rolling either. Equals Awesome! I hate waiting. So I love this recipe. When the dough comes together it will be crumbly, but don’t worry. Just grab it and knead it a bit and it’s ready to roll and cut. And it lifts beautifully, too.

Or if you want to see how I made my cookies stand, then keep on reading. These aren’t in Bridget’s book… I was just inspired by her cookie creations and love for decorating and wanted to share it with you since I love using her recipe.

Roll your cookie dough out nice and flat. I used these rubber dough bands to make sure the thickness was even when I rolled.
Then cut out circles in graduating sizes. I used 3-7/8, 3, 2-5/8 and 2-1/4 inch sizes.
Before you bake, use a plastic drinking straw to remove the centers of each cookie. The straw collects the dough in the center. Convenient.
Freeze the cut shapes for about 10 minutes to help the dough avoid spreading and then bake.
And when they come out of the oven, use the straw again to make sure the holes stay the same size.
Use the dough scraps and tiny cutters to cut out shapes for your desserts to go on display.
A piping tip like the one on the right will make circles with rounded tops since the tip is cone-shaped.
Makes great mini macarons or whoopie pies. Just tap the tip on the counter to release the dough.
Lots of little shapes.
Assorted shapes – around 1 inch wide.
Tiny alphabet cutters. XOXO
Graduated ovals – plain on one side and crinkled on the other.
And my favorite – I can’t live without – graduated circle cutters that I used to make the stands.
You’ll want to use four different sizes to make the 3-tier stands.
Note: For the chocolate cookies, I swapped out 1/2 flour for 1/2 cup cocoa and used all vanilla extract in Bridget’s recipe.
After they are baked and cooled, and then comes the piping. This always goes smoother in my head than when I actually start piping.
Pipe first with outline icing and then fill with flood icing.
However for these I ended up using a royal icing consistency somewhere in between and piped and filled with the same consistency.
Ugh – wonky lines. Not what I’d hoped.
So after I filled and before the icing set completely, I piped dots all the way around. Camouflage it.
Much better.
Let cookies dry overnight. And after all the cookie decorating save leftover royal icing in an airtight container or in the piping bag with the ends tied off and cap closed for finishing up the project the next day.
Now comes the fun part.
Ice the cakes and decorate!
Easy details for major impact.
Oh and those macarons, try painting them with a little luster dust.
Just mix some of the powder with a small amount of clear extract and you can paint right on the cookies.
Pretty.
Pretty dang cute!
And even cuter on display.
These were surprisingly easy to make stand up.
Start with using cookie sticks for the support. These are bigger than the lollipop sticks I usually use for cake pops (lower right).
The sticks should be about 6 inches tall for the stands. Buy the 6 inch sticks or cut down the 8 inch.
Use a cookie stick to gently twist through each cookie opening to make sure it goes through before building.
And make sure your cookie icing is completely dry and set from the day before.
- Start with the smallest cookie shape. It should not be iced. Place on a flat surface and then insert the cookie stick. Slide the largest iced cookie on top. Having two cookies on the bottom will give you more support and keep the stick straight.
- Cut striped straws into 1 1/2 inch sections. Slide one straw piece over the stick and push to the bottom as a spacer/ledge.
- Slide second largest iced cookie on stick until it stops at the straw. Then slide another straw piece on top.
- Slide last cookie on top until it stops at the straw. Then slide one more straw piece on the very top. Wrap a piece of washi tape around the straw and cut out a triangle for a cute flag topper.
- Note: Not shown. Use the leftover royal icing to pipe in between the two bottom cookies and pipe dots around the centers of each tier to help secure the cookies in place as you build. Attach the desserts to the tiers with royal icing too. Then let dry and don’t move for a few hours. I skipped this step because I wanted to get right to taking pictures.
There you have it four cookies for 3-tier stands. Bridget’s recipe will make four stands with enough cookies to decorate.
And these can be totally scaled back? Two tiers? Just a cookie plate? Just the tiny cookies? Only one cookie shape? Choose how you want to play.
They’d be super fun and totally stand out for Valentine’s Day, for a dessert party or even party favors.

And my weekend was fun, in a way. I spent the first part of it with my family and went to the movies, which was very enjoyable. I had to work on a project for the rest of the weekend, but I got a lot of work done – so it was time well spent!

This weekend I cooked dinners for the week (beef stew, chicken pot pie, shredded chicken, and chicken chili) and put them up in the freezer. During the week I only have to heat them up. I also baked some brownies. Nice relaxing weekend at home.

Last weekend I decided to finally quit my job that is more draining than fun and makes me ill. That decision magically cured the sinusitis that had kept me in bed on Saturday and I got to enjoy a wonderful Sunday with my boyfriend. He cooked a wonderful dinner for us and I provided little cakes (that actually would look cute on the cookie stands as well) for dessert. My boss was a little shocked when I told him on Monday but knowing that I will soon have enough time and energy for baking and crafting is priceless. The cookie stands are definitely on my to-do list now :) Thank you for sharing all your wonderful ideas!

I did my homework (lol, I know – not fun at all). But afterwards, I rewarded myself by trying to learn how to make macarons for the first time. Let’s just say it was an interesting experience! I wasn’t sure how to incorporate flavors into the macaron (whether to use liquid or powder).. and might I add, I was trying to be a little experimental in that department too. Haha.

What I love about you, is that whenever I get thinking about a certain holiday and want to do something different, I just have to come here and look. I love these. For some reason, I have been afraid to try royal icing, but I think I am going to do it this time for an office valentine party. They are so elegant.

This weekend was actually very exciting. My family hosted a baby shower for a close family friend. It is going to be a boy so lots of people came to our house early and decked our whole house in blue. When the mother-to-be came there was a whole plan set out. Lots of food and games for everyone :P

I made Valentine cookie cutouts. I split my dough in half and coloured it with a bit of red to get a really nice pink and then cut out hearts and put them together before baking. They were so nice I didn’t even add icing or sprinkles to them. Took some pictures, and then took the rest home to munch on. Got to love design days. :)

I finished up 45 cheerleading bows for competition, made 25 birthday cakeballs for a friend of a friend and catered dessert for one of my old cheerleader’s 2 year old daughter’s birthday party (minnie mouse theme: 18 minnie mouse cupcakes, 36 cupcakes w/fondant bows…my first time using fondant…and 36 oreo cookies decorated to resemble minnie mouse). THEN, I took my 14 year old daughter and 2 friends out for bowling and arcade playing (I kinda slept in the chair while they played). I am really tired now!
I went to a fabulous baby shower!
So cute! This weekend I had dinner with my sister and studied for an exam I had… At least it was part fun!

We went cross- country skiing! It is such fun! It was a balmy 18 degrees!!

We adopted another rescue dog so we spent time getting to know him. :)

Wow…love these ???? this weekend my daughter had a dancing comp, so we stayed in hotel Friday night, dancing comp on Saturday, birthday party on Sunday, ironing school uniforms….love this quick cookie recipe….ideal for a single mum with very little baking time ????

I worked the entire weekend. And I work at a grocery store so I was there until close 2/3 days of the weekend and I worked until 10 on saturday (the day I didn’t close). So I think I need this book for this weekend since I’m off on friday :)

OMG these are amazingly cute! This past weekend I baked mochi muffins! Some with nutella filling. Its a great mix of a little fluffy and a little chewy.

This weekend our family (Hubby, Son (6), Daughter (4)) did a Marathon Mile at LegoLand, then hung out at home, staying warm from the cold rain.

These are sooooho freakin cute!!! I had an awesome weekend- Saturday started with making regular sized and mini sized choc fudge cupcakes with choc buttercream (some for gifts and some for me!) and then I spent the rest of the day with my best friend and her three gorgeous girls who I adore. Sunday was housework but also included whipping up a double batch of orange poppyseed cake. It was a long weekend here, so Monday counts as part of the weekend… After a relaxing morning I had afternoon tea with girlfriends! So as you can see I had a pretty ‘sweet’ weekend :)

This weekend turned into a big babysitting weekend, where I babysat my 3 nephews and niece. I had such a fun time, couldn’t say my husband enjoyed it too much though, he said at one point “there’s way too many kids here”, haha! I didn’t mind one bit though, I LOVE LOVE having my family around! :)

I went to see my friend’s band play. It was nice to be able to support him since it was his last time with this band.
I picked up my 2 1/2 yr old grandson, he will be staying with us for the WHOLE week. Yippee!!! We made chocolate chip cookies together on Saturday. Yum Yum….
