Last fall during the book tour, I visited a bunch of cupcake bakeries and sweet shops in just about every city I passed through. Miette was one of my favorites in San Francisco. If you get a chance, make sure to give them a visit.
They have two locations. One in the Ferry Building and one on Octavia Street. They also have one in Oakland and another opening later this year in Larkspur, California.
In San Francisco, the one on Octavia Street is bigger than the Ferry building location, but both are just as cute as can be.
I loved the colors and the display of sweets. So did Julie.
Everywhere you turn are the cutest treats with adorable packaging.
Lovely macarons.
Panna Cotta and Pots de Creme.
Little cakes.
Lots of little cakes. Miette is known for their sweets of smaller scale.
These are all 6 inch cakes which makes them even more charming.
And check out their cupcakes. Beautiful!
Miette recently released a cookbook filled with recipes of their signature sweets.
Pretty awesome.
And pretty cute. I love the scalloped pages.
It ties in beautifully with the shop accents.
See. Same cupcakes.
But that’s not all.
Marshmallows. I must make some soon.
Crackers and cookies.
Tarts and tartlettes. I just want to sink my teeth right in. Forget the fork.
Caramels.
And cakes.
I made the Tomboy Cake. So good. It’s made with chocolate and cocoa.
And I must say, it feels good to feel like baking again.
Here’s the Tomboy Cake Recipe straight from the book, courtesy of my and Miette’s publisher, Chronicle Books.
But that’s not all.
This book is just so cute that I thought I’d give you guys a chance to win a copy.
And because most people don’t already own 6 X 3 inch pans, I’m giving away two straight and two contour pans so you can make all the little Miette cakes you want. I’m also including some tartlet pans in case you don’t have any of those handy either.
To enter for a chance to win, just leave a comment on this post and answer the following question.
- What was the last cookbook you acquired or what is the next cookbook you can’t wait to get your hands on?
- Deadline to enter is Tuesday, July 12 at 7:00 pm ET. Sorry, time’s up. Winner announced below.
- One winner will be chosen at random and announced sometime Tuesday evening.
Good Luck!
Giveaway sponsored by me.

This is an interesting ceocnpt! I struggle finding recipes for one or two people and happened upon your website from a comment you made in someone else’s blog. Let me ask you, do these recipes freeze well in the event I wanted to make some ahead of time? Love, love, love this idea!!Namaste,Donna
my sister gave me miette’s cookbook and i love it! photos are inspiring, directions are clear and more importantly, the cakes taste divine!
Last cookbook I got was Malouf by Greg and Lucy Malouf… Best modern Lebanese/ mediterranean cookbook to date…. Love his stuff and yours to! Miette looks awesome!
i love miette! we ordered a lot of their cakes for our wedding instead of a big huge one and they were a hit. they taste so good and are so pretty yet simple. doing it this way we always are able to order one of their cakes for our anniversary and get to relive our wedding again (or anytime of the year actually!)
Great site! Would you remember how high to fill batter in each 6″x 3″ round for the Tomboy?
wwwwwwwwwwwooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwww
I have a cake pops book, I bought it at Wal-Mart for 20 bucks.
Just received my miette book I ordered on Amazon. Totally in love with it, can’t wait to try these recipes.
I bought bakerella’s new book and boy did it open my eyes on cake pops, balls, etc. My sister and I will soon be opening our cupcake shop in Bonner Springs, Ks. We will be the first and this book will really help. I do have a question about books. I need to develop fondant decorations for the top of cupcakes for every occasion. I have never worked with fondant. I started cake decorating in the early 70’s and I only learned about buttercream and royal icing. Which book would be a good beginers book for fondant decorations? I saw one that was fondant bible or something like that . Have any of you some idea what would be good.
Thanks,
Liz
There are lots of errors in the Miette book which will be reprinted in October. Amazon is currently sending out “correction sheets” and will send those who purchased it free copies of the new book in October.
I just wanted to thank you for posting about this place! I moved out west about 2 years ago and hadn’t made it out to San Francisco until about 4 days after your posting! I was able to go to the Ferry Building and I was in heaven. Of course I had to get the gingerbread cupcake and it was amazing! Rekindled the desire to experiment with flavors and get back in the kitchen! Thank you so much!
So, I adore this little bakery. I didn’t know she had a cookbook until your post and immediately ordered the book. I read later about all the typos in the book. It was an easy fix. I just went to Chronicle and printed off the list and just wrote them in the cookbook. Today I get an email stating because of the large amount of errors, they will be printing a corrected edition in October, and they will be sending me a new revised addition for free at that time. I’m impressed!!
I love Miette…I’m not an actual baker but I have learned so much from Meg Ray when I attended her 3-day class.
What a charming bakery! I already see a sampler package that I plan to order. :-)
The last recipe/cake book that I purchased was CakePops!!
How funny, I was just there at the Ferry building the day after you posted this! :) Their cupcakes were yuuuummy~
After reading this on your website I went to check out the book in my local bookstore and while I want it so bad, your readers (especially the ones trying to make that buttercream) might want to know that there are a LOT of errors in the book. Here’s a list that the editor has released:
http://www.chroniclebooks.com/etchosts/pdfs/Miette_Errata_Sheet.pdf
For the buttercream, ignore the first time it tells you to pour the syrup in. You don’t want to do that until it is at the higher temperature!
Oh man, I just discovered this website today. D: I love to bake.
I had the great opportunity of visiting Miette last spring while I was on vacation. I LOVED it! I tried the old-fashioned cupcake and it was outstanding. I’m hoping to recieve the cookbook for Christmas this year!
Yummy, yummy, yummy. Bakerella, you are not helping my diet one bit!
it’s just good to see you posting/baking again :) missed your sweet brand of humor
You’re so kind hearted! I jist adore you!
I’m so excited to hear that they are going to be opening a store in Larkspur! That’s even closer to my home in Sonoma County!!
I can’t wait to try the Tomboy Cake – it looks amazing!
I’m a bit confused by the vanilla buttercream instructions though it looks as if they might have repeated a step? Step two says add the sugar syrup once the egg whites form soft peaks and then the next step says to add the sugar syrup again?
congrats pat………..enjoy your new goodies………especially bakerella’s cake pop book…..it’s just the cutest thing ever!
My husband saw this on your site (he knows I love this site!) and gave the Miette Cookbook to me for my birthday! Can’t wait to try it out :)
