Miette

IMG_8411

Last fall during the book tour, I visited a bunch of cupcake bakeries and sweet shops in just about every city I passed through. Miette was one of my favorites in San Francisco. If you get a chance, make sure to give them a visit.

They have two locations. One in the Ferry Building and one on Octavia Street. They also have one in Oakland and another opening later this year in Larkspur, California.

IMG_8390

In San Francisco, the one on Octavia Street is bigger than the Ferry building location, but both are just as cute as can be.

IMG_8401

I loved the colors and the display of sweets. So did Julie.

IMG_8320

Everywhere you turn are the cutest treats with adorable packaging.

IMG_8328

Lovely macarons.

IMG_8327

Panna Cotta and Pots de Creme.

IMG_8410

Little cakes.

IMG_8326

Lots of little cakes. Miette is known for their sweets of smaller scale.

These are all 6 inch cakes which makes them even more charming.

IMG_8395

And check out their cupcakes. Beautiful!

IMG_84111

Miette recently released a cookbook filled with recipes of their signature sweets.

Pretty awesome.

IMG_83901

And pretty cute. I love the scalloped pages.

IMG_8395

It ties in beautifully with the shop accents.

IMG_84011

See. Same cupcakes.

But that’s not all.

IMG_8402

Marshmallows. I must make some soon.

IMG_8393

Crackers and cookies.

IMG_8398

Tarts and tartlettes. I just want to sink my teeth right in. Forget the fork.

IMG_8404

Caramels.

And cakes.

I made the Tomboy Cake. So good. It’s made with chocolate and cocoa.

And I must say, it feels good to feel like baking again.

Here’s the Tomboy Cake Recipe straight from the book, courtesy of my and Miette’s publisher, Chronicle Books.

But that’s not all.

IMG_8380

This book is just so cute that I thought I’d give you guys a chance to win a copy.

And because most people don’t already own 6 X 3 inch pans, I’m giving away two straight and two contour pans so you can make all the little Miette cakes you want. I’m also including some tartlet pans in case you don’t have any of those handy either.

To enter for a chance to win, just leave a comment on this post and answer the following question.

  • What was the last cookbook you acquired or what is the next cookbook you can’t wait to get your hands on?
  • Deadline to enter is Tuesday, July 12 at 7:00 pm ET. Sorry, time’s up. Winner announced below.
  • One winner will be chosen at random and announced sometime Tuesday evening.

Good Luck!

Giveaway sponsored by me.

Okay, time to announce the winner of this cute little cookbook and petite pans.

The winner is comment #2636

miette-winnerCongratulations Pat! And guess what. I’m going to throw in a copy of Cake Pops for you, too.

Here is a cute and touching story: a boy in my daughters 5th grade class confided in her that he really liked her best friend, but didn’t know bow to tell her. My daughter told him that we just got done making some cute cakepops and she could bring one for him to give to the girl. He loved the idea so she came home, wrapped it up and gave it to him the next day. Well, he ended up telling his friends that if they liked a girl at school, then they needs to give the girl a cake pop. Over the course of a week, I had 10 moms emailing me asking how to make these cake pops because their son had to tell a girl they liked them. I told them to buy your book. What was funny was seeing all of these different cake pops showing up at school, and the girls that had received them. So, if any of you has a crush on someone special, then whip up a special batch of cake pops and give one to them! It works!

  156. Last cookbook I bought was Pioneer Woman and I can’t wait to get a copy of Bakerella Cake pops or Miette!!!!

  157. The last book I purchased was Alice Medrich’s cookie book,
Chewy, Gooey, Crispy, Crunchy. I love a classic cookie book with new techniques.
The one I can’t wait to get my hands on is Pierre Hermes’ Macarons book that will finally be released in English later this year.

  158. Last cookbook i bought, minus the random old ones i buy at yard sales, was the new food processor bible.. its great!

  159. The last book I bought was Pops by Wilton…loved it! But not as much as yours!!!!!

  160. I finally got a copy of Hello, Cupcake!

  161. I actually bought the Miette cookbook-couldn’t resist the scalloped edges!

  162. WOW!! I can’t wait to go to Miette and taste everything! What a beautiful shop! My most recent cookbook aquisition was “The Moosewood Restaurant Book of Desserts”. Got some excellent cake recipes from it! The next one I am desiring is “Mastering the Art of French Cooking”. Thanks!

  163. The last cookbook I got was Recipes from America’s Small Farms. It is a fabulous book for using local produce. Every recipe we have tried we have loved!

  165. Cake Pops !!!

  166. I got “Our Best Bites” cookbook for mother’s day and love it. It is cute and has yummy easy recipes. I would LOVE this book. The scalloped edges are so cute!!

The next cookbook I want to purchase is probably Blood, Bones and Butter: The Inadvertent Education of a Reluctant Chef by Gabrielle Hamilton, even though that’s more of a food-memoir.

  180. The last cookbook was Pioneer Woman’s. I really want to get yours!!

  181. Baby Cakes Does the Classics. Great for gluten free people.
And welcome back, by the way.

  185. I really want to get The Pioneer Woman’s cookbook. I go to her website often. I also, however, want to get the Martha Stewart Cupcakes cookbook. I am a cookbook junkie. Constantly looking for new ones that I can add to my collection!

  186. I don’t have many cookbooks, I’ve always searched up recipes online, or borrowed one from someone. My last cookbook that I got was actually Mrs.Field’s Cookie Book!

  187. The last cookbook I have bought is Martha Stewart’s “Pies and Tarts”, wonderful!!!! but is just the begginning of a library/collection (I don’t know how to say it …I mean, I just want every cookbook I see!), I hope!!! I’m happy to hear your mother and you are doing well!! kisses

We are currently making friendship bread – she is loving the “mash the bag” days! Thanks for the chance!
