Last fall during the book tour, I visited a bunch of cupcake bakeries and sweet shops in just about every city I passed through. Miette was one of my favorites in San Francisco. If you get a chance, make sure to give them a visit.
They have two locations. One in the Ferry Building and one on Octavia Street. They also have one in Oakland and another opening later this year in Larkspur, California.
In San Francisco, the one on Octavia Street is bigger than the Ferry building location, but both are just as cute as can be.
I loved the colors and the display of sweets. So did Julie.
Everywhere you turn are the cutest treats with adorable packaging.

Miette recently released a cookbook filled with recipes of their signature sweets.
Pretty awesome.
And pretty cute. I love the scalloped pages.
It ties in beautifully with the shop accents.

I made the Tomboy Cake. So good. It’s made with chocolate and cocoa.
And I must say, it feels good to feel like baking again.

I started reading it last night and I am excited to start trying the recipes…these old-school cajun ladies really know how to cook!! My first challenge is a fantastic strawberry cake….so far I have the strawberry cake down its just not so fantastic (yet)!

I actually bought myself three cookbooks for my birthday in May- the America’s Test Kitchen Healthy Family Favorites monster of a book, the new Food Network Magazine cookbook (which I think is actually my favorite so far), and the 150 Best American Recipes, which was an impulse buy that so far I’m not crazy about. If I don’t win, the Miette cookbook might be my next one!

I recently purchased Joanne Chang’s Flour, and I absolutely love the recipes I’ve tried so far–chocolate eclairs and blueberry pie. The photos are beautiful and she explains everything so well, which is perfect for a notorious kitchen fail like me. :)

The last cookbook I received was titled “The New Orleans Cookbook” by Rima and Richard Collins courtesy of my father, a big fan of Cajun cooking! The next cookbook on my list is a true class, the Joy of Cooking!
