Joy with friends and Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream

Wendy, Bridget and Amy

I was in Columbus, Ohio last weekend visiting with some sweet friends that I’ve met through blogging… Wendy of Wenderly, Bridget of Bake at 350, and Amy of She Wears Many Hats. Hi guys! I mean girls.

Wendy lives in Ohio and invited us to spend a few days at her cabin in the woods. Has anyone seen that movie? And yes, I totally spent the weekend suggesting scary movie situations to them. What if this – and what if that. But mostly scaring myself. I definitely watch way too many SyFy Sunday movies. If you watch that channel, you know the ones I mean.

Anyway, we kicked off our fun cabining weekend with a straight from the airport pitstop for lunch and then Jeni’s ice cream. Yay!

Jeni's Ice Cream

Jeni’s is based in Ohio and I’ve been wanting to visit one of her scoop shops for some time now.

Jeni's Signature Flavors

She has some incredible flavors. Or should I say splendid.

Yogurt

And yogurt too.

I love all the chalk writing and window words. So cute.

Jeni's Ice Cream

The inside of the store is perfect with the ceiling strung in little lights and paper garland.

Jeni's Ice Cream

You can buy ice cream by the scoop and by the pint. Whoohoo!

So many flavors. Signature and seasonal ones too.

Jeni's Ice Cream

Like this one for flu season. Influenza sorbet.

Soothing for the sickly. Made with cayenne pepper, ginger, bourbon, honey, orange and lemon juices.

Jeni's Ice Cream

Handwritten! Love it and love how the same flavors are written by different people. What a fun way to add that personal touch.

And now I have a strange desire get a job handwriting ice cream labels. I wonder if I could add hearts and smiley faces.

By the way, if you’re in Ohio, stop what you are doing right now and run and get some of that Maple Walnut ice cream. It’s fantastic. I think that container on the top right is actually mocking me right now with all of its maple amazingness. I even tried to order some more today online, but that flavor is seasonal and isn’t shipping. Wipes tear. So get it in stores while you can.

Jeni's Ice Cream

Sweet friends, ice cream and a great start to our winter weekend away.

You know what, you can also make your own Jeni’s ice cream. Check out her book: Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams at Home.
Jeni's Ice Cream

The staff at Jeni’s was great. Super patient. They didn’t even mind the 571 samples we asked for. But I think that’s pretty smart of them, because then we ended up ordering 571 scoops to enjoy. You know … just to be absolutely sure they were good. : )

Jeni's Ice Cream

Okay not really 571 scoops, but several. Here’s a few of the flavors we all sampled.

Eaten

Enjoyed and instagrammed. It’s a mandatory food blogging thing … to share when something is so so good.

Jeni's Ice Cream

My favorites right now: Dark Chocolate (of course) and that Maple Walnut. Goodness. Very goodness!

Amy, Wendy & Bridget

While we were laughing and sampling, we had a fun surprise. Jeni stopped in the location we were at. With several stores, we certainly weren’t expecting that. Wendy had met her before so she introduced us.

Me and Jeni

Hi Jeni! Your ice cream makes my tummy happy.

Jeni's Ice Cream

Such a great smile. It’s nice to see when people are doing something they love.

Visit Jeni’s Ice Cream for online ordering, scoop shop locations and where to buy by the pint in other states.

  99. Ice cream of course!!!

  103. I love classic ice cream and good frozen yogurt! My husband would die with excitement if I won this! Thank you!

  104. Icecream! Love it, love it, love it:)

  105. what a treat! i HEART jeni’s! living in columbus myself, i don’t get to one of her shops as often as i’d like. hope you had a great time in the Buckeye state!

  133. I am all about ice cream. Give me some chocolate for pure joy!

  134. You are so generous! I love ice cream and frozen dairy treats!

  135. I personally love ice cream and couldn’t do without it. You can make it super simple with the best ingredients and it’ll be the most magical experience ever. Then you can dress it up, make it personal and heighten it to unimaginable levels. Sure you can do that with no cream or yogurt, but full fat and full flavor is sure for me!

  146. I have a serious love for all frozen treats! my favorites are corn flavored ice cream with either cinnamon or chili powder on top (depending on my mood) from a place in Kennett Square, PA or the Bourbon Vanilla my cousin’s wife made and brought to my Nana’s 96th birthday party back in December.

Lover of fat face popsicles too like the one with sticky rice with mango pops

  151. I am such a fan of artisan ice cream. I love plain old vanilla with lavender balsamic drizzled over top, but if I’m at a fancy schmancy ice cream/frozen yogurt/sorbet store, I can never decide on a single flavor. I usually end up getting two flavors (“ok miss, then you need to get a larger size”) and regretting it later (but only a little bit). Next to cupcakes, doughnuts, and pie, ice cream (or gelato- YUM) is my favorite.

  152. ICE CREAM, especially in the winter time! My all time favorite is a combo of chocolate and vanilla!!

  153. Ice cream!!!!!

Good old fashioned vanilla with a freshly baked cookie (or 2) , crumbled and folded through a bog ol’ bowl . . . finished with sprinkles and chocolate sauce *sigh*

    Love :)

  159. I love chocolate chip ice cream!

  160. I love them all but I’d have to say frozen yogurt is my favorite. Strawberry flavor topped with yogurt raisins and gummy bears YUMMMM!!

  161. Ice cream ice cream ice cream!!!!

The Truth is that I love any treat that is frozen and I love trying new flavors!

I love your packaging so much that I can taste the ice cream here in berkeley! Ok I dream of tasting it..

  169. It’s all about the ice cream!

  170. All about ice cream! Love a good old fashioned hot fudge sundae :)

  171. LOVE ice cream!!!

  172. I absolutely love, love, love frozen yogurt, tasty, yet good for you too!!

  173. I LOVE ice cream…if I were on a deserted island, that’s what I would need in order to survive.

  174. My absolute favorite frozen treat is sorbet. It can be almost any flavor. My favorite ice cream is strawberry. I like to keep it simple.

  175. As an overworked and not-at-all-paid third-year law student in Philadelphia, I would cry tears of unadulterated joy if a Jeni’s collection were to show up on my doorstep. (Seriously.) I went to Ohio State for undergrad and my heart aches for Jeni’s on the regular, but my pocketbook can’t fund their precious cargo to my mailbox.

As for whether I love ice cream, sorbet, or frozen yogurt best? The answer to that is yes.

  176. Ice cream! Think one of my favorite frozen desserts is a childhood nostalgic Dixie cups (vanilla and orange ice cream combo) that came with little wooden spoons in wrappers.

I’ve been wanting to try Jeni’s ever since I read an article about it. Alas, they don’t have that here in NYC.

  177. I have been wanting to try Jeni’s Ice Cream ever since I saw it on the Food Network. I bought her book but, my freezer is too small to fit my ice cream maker in to freeze the container.

  178. I love chocolate and fruit combos!

  179. I’m all about frozen yogurt. Plain tart. Choose your own toppings. Usually fruit but sometimes cookies or candy. My fave place is in Albany, CA ( near Berkeley) called As You Wish. Deliciousness!

  180. You know, I had convinced myself frozen yogurt was my jam (the health benefits! the toppings! the autonomy to self-serve!) but then I moved to Columbus and discovered Jeni’s.

  181. Ice cream for me all the way…not the healthy jogurt stuff.

  182. I love me some frozen yogurt!

  183. Oh, gotta be ice cream. Either a mild peppermint or salted caramel!

  184. I love all three! Anything chocolate for ice cream and pomegranate raspberry frozen yogurt! Yumm:)

  185. I love frozen yogurt and soft serve ice cream. Especially dipped in a hard chocolate shelled or topped with nuts. Yum!

  186. ALL ABOUT ICE CREAM :)

i love me some reeses ice cream or mint chocolate chip!

  187. I’m all about ice cream! My favorite recent combo had been a trio of dark chocolate, Ugandan vanilla bean and salty caramel. Delicious!

  188. WOW, what an awesome package this would be to win! The flavors sound delish . . . Influenza Sorbet sounded a bit scary until I read that it helps make you better, I could have used that earlier this week! My favorite is ice cream, I’ve never had sorbet, but would love to try it in lime. As soon as I saw this I went straight to Amazon and ordered the book.

  189. I love ice cream! A favorite flavor of mine is goat cheese brownie from Toscanini’s in Cambridge, MA.

As a frozen treat besides that, I really love combining frozen blueberries with a splash of milk. The milk frosts over the blueberries, which makes a great and tasty healthy alternative to ice cream!! Great summer treat :)

  190. Absolutely ice cream! My favorite is mint chocolate chip ice cream, sliced bananas, hot fudge, whipped cream, nuts & of course, a cherry on top!!

  191. This is the cutest shop ever!!!! I love fancy ice cream!!!! To answer the question, I love live love the taste of homemade ice cream so that is definitely my favorite!!!

  192. ICE CREAM!!!
I eat it almost every night. I don’t know what I’d do if there were a place like Jeni’s near me. Peanut Butter chocolate is probably my most fave flavor.

  193. I love all kinds of frozen treats, but gelato is my favorite! There is a shop in the ground floor of my grandma’s apartment building and we always stop there several times throughout our visits!

  194. It used to be ice cream, but frozen yogurt has stolen my heart. I hope I win, I have been dying to try Jeni’s for ages!!

  195. Omg! 17 pints?! Get in my belly. As my 5 year old so honestly described, “I have a pocket in my stomach for ice cream. There is always room for it.”

  196. oh wow!!! words cannot describe how I am feeling just looking at the ice cream pictures. I am really amazed to see the variety of flavors. YUM!!!

  197. Oh my! That looks like heaven! I’m all about ice cream.
