I just wanted to let you all know that tomorrow is the big day.
In the morning my mom and I are going into surgery.
It’s finally here and we are both ready.
I can’t wait to be through with dialysis. Actually, if all goes as planned, tonight was my last treatment. Giant Yay! Sprinkled with cartwheels! Yay. Yay. Yay.
I am sorry that these past several weeks have been boring around here. But, I’m excited just thinking about feeling good again, so it won’t be boring for too much longer.
Thank you all for your concern, for your wonderful emails, for your patience, and your prayers. I really appreciate all of it.

UPDATE: The surgery went fantastic. The doctors couldn’t be happier with how we are both doing. My mom’s kidney started working right away which they don’t always do. Sometimes it takes a little while for everything to kick in. It was doing so well that I was also able to have the dialysis catheter removed before I came home. Thank goodness. I couldn’t wait to have that thing taken out. I’m home now recovering and so is my mom. She’s doing great, too. We are just both very sore. You know, when I had my first kidney transplant almost 19 years ago, I stayed in the hospital for almost two weeks. But this time I came home after four days. Just amazing. It’s really good to be home. Anyway, I just wanted to give you a quick update. Thank you all again for leaving such wonderful messages. We’ve both enjoyed reading them and it’s made the last few days even brighter.
I hope by now you and your mom are out of surgery and that all went well! You’re in my thoughts and prayers! I can’t wait til you’re all better! I choked up a little reading your moms note! Hugs to both of you, and super fast healing! God is awesome! :)

I have been following your story and tears rolled down my face as I read this. My prayers are with you both. I have been with a friend and her newborn for the past 3 months. We have been from town to town when the baby was moved. By the grace of God, she is home and doing great. What an awesome God we serve.
How blessed you are to have a mother that will stand by you and to donate a kidney in the process. There is no love like the love of a mother and the love of our heavenly father.

Typically, I am a behind the scenes kind of gal. I don’t always like to comment. But I just wanted to stop in and let you know that prayers are on-going for you.
I believe in the power of prayer and have seen the healing power of God (I was told I may never walk again after complications from giving birth to my first son. After so many prayed for me I not only walked again but went on to give birth to 3 more children!). May God continue to bless you and your mom. May his hands guide the instruments held by the doctors and may the Holy Spirit be all around you during this amazing time. These are the prayers I will continue to offer for you.

Hi! Just wanted to add my prayer and encouragement to all that you’re already receiving! My uncle had two VERY diseased kidneys, and his sister donated one of hers for him. He has been doing VERY well ever since (it was almost three years ago), and I fully believe that God will do the same for you!
Also, your mom quoted one of my very favorite verses! I often recite it to myself in Romanian (I learned it on a mission trip there): “Pot totul in Cristos, care ma intareste.” :-)

This education, awareness and registry program was named after State Representative Glenda Dawson in memory of her contributions to organ donations for the State of Texas. She was a former educator my High school teacher and she was also a recipient of a donated kidney from her sister in the late 1980s, passing away in 2006. She was living proof of the miracles that can happen after organ donation.
