Food Blog Forum and Something Brand New and Bright Blue

This post doesn’t involve baking from this weekend
but there’s something pretty sweet at the end I think you’ll like.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Okay, so I’ve been out of town for the last two weekends. First, Chicago for the Home and Housewares Show

IMG_9497

and last weekend somewhere a little bit warmer.

photo0

I was in sunny Florida for a weekend conference full of learning and sharing with friends – and a bunch of food and fun thrown in.

IMG_9522

Food Blog Forum Orlando. Put on by Jaden Hair of Steamy Kitchen, Todd & Diane of White On Rice Couple, Julie Deily of The Little Kitchen and Dawn Viola.

And sponsored by Disney, Kitchenaid, OXO, Land O’ Lakes, Whole Foods, Le Creuset and more.

The meeting was held at Walt Disney World and it was amazing. So well done. Julie from the Little Kitchen knows how to put together a great event. I was there with a bunch of great speakers. (See the whole group here) Alison Lewis (Ingredients, Inc.) and I spoke at round table discussions on writing a cookbook. I really enjoyed the round table set up because we were able to talk one-on-one with people and that’s much more my speed. I don’t think I’d be very good at getting up in front of a big room of people and talking. There would be a lot of umms and likes and pauses I’m sure.

photo19

On the evening before the meeting, we had a beautiful outdoor reception at the Grand Floridian. My sweet friend Jenny (Picky Palate) and I met some great girls. Nikki (Pennies on a Platter), Krissy (Krissy’s Creations), Julie (Table for Two) and Rachel (The Fabulous Foodie). Hi girls. Thanks for making Magic Kingdom such a blast!

Untitled-1

We hit up a few rides and went on a search for Dole Whip and churros before the park closed. It was my first time trying either. So yum! Thanks for sharing these phone pics girls.

We spent all day Saturday at Epcot where the meeting was held.

Untitled-2

It was definitely a special place to have a meeting. Not only were there great speakers, yummy treats, amazing prizes, like stand mixers and refrigerators, Le creusets and more but when we were done, we had a huge world to explore.

IMG_9445

If only I could have seen it all. I’ve never been to Epcot. I had no idea how ginormous this park was. Actually, I still don’t know how big it is. But that’s okay because what I did see was perfect.

photo12

We had an incredible lunch extravaganza prepared by Disney chefs from the parks and hotels.

Untitled-3

I focused on dessert of course.

Untitled-4

Lunch gave us all more time to talk.

Here’s Lauren’s Latest, Julie, Krissy and Jenny.

And I finally finally met Elise from Simply Recipes. Yay! Hope we can chat more next time.

Alison and Jenny. Love you guys.

And sweet, sweet Julie. Again, great job on pulling this event together.

IMG_9729

On Sunday we had a brunch hosted by Whole Foods. Incredible food means the cameras come out.

IMG_9649

See what I mean. That’s Dawn in the back, Julie and Jenny, and then Lindsey (Love and Olive Oil) in the front.

This might be one of my favorite pics from the weekend. It just makes me giggle at how we all do the same thing as bloggers. It’s almost uncontrollable when you have a camera in your hand.

IMG_9663

But in our defense, the flowers were pretty cheery.

IMG_9705

I enjoyed this weekend so much.

Hi Emily (Sage Recipes) and Kiran (Kirantarun)! It was nice meeting you both. Hope to see you again. And you too Droolius and Simply Southern Baking.

Untitled-5

Thanks for a weekend of great memories with old friends and new!

So now the fun part.

I’m having an amazing giveaway today.

If you read last week’s post, you may remember some of the new products I talked about from the Home and Housewares Show in Chicago. One of them was this Kitchenaid mixer in Crystal Blue, the brand new color from the Catalina Collection that I fell in love with.

catalina-collection

Well, I met some of the folks from Kitchenaid in Chicago for the first time and and then coincidentally, we met again in Orlando the very next weekend as they were one of the sponsors of Food Blog Forum. Reading all of your sweet choices are driving me crazy. I have cravings now for way too many treats.

I don’t know if I could pick just one either. But warm brownies and ice cream are always a safe bet for me. No nuts. No whipped cream. No syrup. Plain and simple chocolate and vanilla. Warm and cold deliciousness.

Okay, ready for the winner?

It’s comment #6224 – Leann

Congratulations and enjoy your bright blue baby. Hope you make lots of amazing desserts and smile every time you look at it.

  1. If I had to choose one, and only one dessert to eat for the rest of my life, it would have to be a Guinness chocolate cupcake with a Jameson dark chocolate ganache filling, and a Bailey’s vanilla bean frosting. I made these for my sweetie’s birthday this year, and they were to die for! Now, if only something could make them for me everyday ;)

I love baking and am trying to get my bakery business off of the ground, after a rough year of trials in my own life. This kitchenaid would be a huge help to kick off my business, but I hope whoever gets it, enjoys it to the fullest!

  2. Vanilla bean creme brulee. I order creme brulee anytime I go out…it’s delicious!

  3. I’d eat cranberry orange scones and mango tea.

  4. Creme Brulee!!

  5. It is so hard to choose just one dessert but I guess if I had to it would be Tiramisu.

  6. I would happily eat my mom’s peach pie for the rest of my life :)

  7. Oatmeal chocolate chip cookies – delicious!

  8. Oatmeal chocolate chip cookies – delicious!

  9. Only one? I would pick made from scratch fuge brownies…mmmmm… yummy!

  10. I would have to say something with chocolate, and I go for chocolate mouse with cream in top.

  11. I would have to say apple pie, love the warm and cozy feeling you get when eating a slice.

  12. Right now I am fixated on a cupcake my friend made for St. Patrick’s Day, but I think I could eat it any/every day… Irish Car-bomb cupcakes – http://smittenkitchen.com/2009/01/car-bomb-cupcakes/ I’m obsessed.

  13. One dessert?? Ah, probably a brownie. I love them oh so much. Or maybe a snickerdoodle….no no, a brownie. Wait, ice cream! Do I have to only pick one flavor???

  14. I think it would have to be a deliciously decadent dark chocolate layer cake. I am a sucker for anything dark chocolate, but this would have to be on the fudge side.

  15. Hershey’s Cherry Cordials

  16. Chocolate cupcake with peanut butter frosting!

  17. It would definitely be red velvet cake with flour icing. I’d pass it up if it had cream cheese frosting.

  18. super fudgy brownies — with dark chocolate

  19. I would be an oatmeal raisin cookie, they’re everyones fav and such a comfy feeling dessert.

  20. I would eat vanilla ice cream with either a cupcake, brownie, or chocolate chip cookie smooshed in. And not gently folded in, but stirred and smashed until it’s a mushy, slightly melted mess! Mmmmm….now I’m hungry.

  21. I would say anything chocolate but that’s to broad. Soft sugar cookies with nutella filling. Wait, maybe red velvet anything. Ok carrott cake. Final answer tiramisu.

  22. I t was easy to narrow it to 2 -both my mother’s ecipes. One is apricot fried pies and the other is chocolate rolls. But if I am limited to one, the chocolate rolls would win. They are made from scratch with yeast dough. She also made cinnamon ones, but the chocolate always won me over. Biting into those warm rolls and having chocolate roll down my chin is one of my favorite feelings and strongest childhood memories. Yep, definitely her chocolate rolls.

  23. I would definitely choose brownies because you can make them in a lot of different flavors (chocolate, blondies, Peanut butter, butterscotch); you can change the texture- fudgy or cakelike; and you can top it with so many things- turtle brownies, cheesecake brownies, with nuts, without nuts. YUMMMMM

  24. What a hard question! Just one kind?!!! I would need to combine my two biggest loves – chocolate and peanut butter – adding marsmallows – chocolate/peanut butter confetti squares. I have to avoid making them very often cause when I do, I can’t stop sneaking bites of them.

  25. I would eat turkish delight!!

  26. I haven’t made it in a long time, but my favorite is pineapple upside-down cake!

  27. chocolate covered caramel candies

  28. If I could only have one dessert forever it would HAVE to be Chocolate Texas Sheet Cake!! YUM!!!

  29. Hard decision…but probably a smore brownie. The combination of chocolate, marshmellow, and grahm cracker is to die for!

  30. I would forever eat an eclair with vanilla center and chocolate icing/ganache. Mmmmmmmmmmmm.

  31. Hard to choose just one dessert but I have to go with chocolate! A fudge brownie with chocolate fudge frosting on top. Thanks for the chance to win!!

  32. it would have to be the chocolate chip cookie, but specifically the jacque torres’s secret chocolate chip cookie recipe.

  33. Super chocolate brownies!

  34. A brownie. A simple, , sinful, unpretentious, fun, whimsical brownie. They can be dressed up with nuts and icing, left plain, loaded with chocolate chunks or syrup, streaked with caramel or marshmallow cream… so many possibilites. But for me? A simple brownie made from a great recipe and a glass of milk get me every time.

And as I do not have have a staning mixer, I would love one in ANY color! :)

  35. My homemade chocolate chip cookies would be my one dessert.

  36. If I could only pick one… I would definitely pick the classic chocolate chip brownie. It’s so simple yet delicious too.

Also, thanks for this opportunity. I saw this mixer in your previous post, and I thought it was beautiful, and now I have an opportunity to win it!

  37. I would have a bag of roasted chestnuts, usually available from the Korean grocery store.

  38. Tollhouse chocolate cookies made by my husband.

  39. I guess if I had to choose just one, it would be carrot cake with nuts & crushed pineapple and of course a thick layer of cream cheese frosting!

  40. i would want CHEESECAKE BROWNIES oh my goodness the taste in my mouth YUMM

  41. Whoopie pies. All day every day. Or red velvet cupcakes. But I’m pretty sure it would have to be your good ol’ standard whoopie pie.

  42. O.M.G. nobody can’t settle on one sweet thing…this is the question of question’s. I want to say DONUTS, but how can you left cookies behind, and what about cakes, uggghhhh. COCONUT DONUTS final answer, or not. Anything with sugar will be fine.

  43. Oh man! That is SO TOUGH! I guess I’d probably choose…cake…? Coconut cake?

(Or maybe cherry pie…or key lime pie…)

  44. That’s an awful question ;) How could you make me choose?! The possibilities… but you know, the best dessert that I probably still think about all the time is this amazing chocolate-drizzled Speculoos/Nutella macaron that I had from a bakery in Holland. It was to die for. It must help that I could probably eat those two things out of the jar for the rest of my life :D

  45. Very hard question to answer! So many desserts to choose from, I guess I have to say Creme Brulee. Thanks for the chance to win, love the color!

  46. this looks like an amazing trip. I love Disney! The one dessert that I could never live without and could absolutely eat everyday is home made chocolate pudding.

  47. I know it’s not homemade, but I have to go with moosetracks ice cream.

  48. How can I only pick one? I guess if I have to I would pick flan. I hardly ever get to eat it but when I do I’m in heaven. I wish I had some right now.

  49. My favorite dessert would have to be Tiramisu! It is a special bond I have with my oldest daughter who is now away at college. Every time she has a birthday we have to make it and she now has me hooked on it. I love the process of making it and plan on it becoming a tradition to hand down to my children. I love the taste of the espresso along with the chocolate zabaglione! What a combination!!!

  52. Ice Cream! Ben and Jerry’s Coffee Heath Bar Crunch!

  53. I think I could eat gingerbread cookies with the home-y feeling and the not over-the-top sweetness. The can be gingerbread men, women, children, houses. I could eat it all! It doesn’t have to be the Holidays to eat gingerbread cookies!

  54. Oh my gosh… Disney! How fun! Also, that Kate Spade clutch looks great in action with you. I’m at college and miss having a Kitchenaid stand mixer so very much… the things I could make with it. Swoon. Anyways, if I absolutely had to limit myself to one dessert for the rest of eternity… I’d have to go with apple pie. It’s my favorite thing to make and eat.

  55. Definitely a brownie. Just a simple, unpretentious brownie. Classic, fun, can be made in cupcake papers of various sizes or in a sheet pan… Wildly diverse in that you can toss a lot of other things in there to up the Yum-factor. Be if it is just one for a lifetime, then a plain ol’ brownie and a glass of milk will get me every time.

nd as I don’t have a standing mixer, I would love one in ANY color :)

  56. I can’t get enough lemon bars. I don’t always have them as much as I’d like to, but there’s something I find really comforting about them. And a layer of powdered sugar on top doesn’t hurt either. :)

  57. I would love to enjoy lemon meringue pie every night for the rest of my life. But the meringue has to be a certain kind with just the correct amount of sugar.

  61. Hmm… Only one dessert for the rest of my life? How about cookies and cream cheesecake with a chocolate chip cookie crust, raspberry swirl and topped with rich chocolate ganache and whipped cream!

  62. Probably sugar cookies … I just can’t seem to get enough of them!

  63. My Grandmothers Lemon Meringue Pie. The perfect balance of sweet and tart. Not too much Meringue and a crust oh so flakey. This Pie would melt in your mouth without chewing and one bit woule transport you back to summer no matter what time of year.

  73. Milk Chocolate!

  74. Vanilla cupcakes with buttercream frosting

  76. Generally I prefer ice cream or a good (homemade by me) chocolate chip cookie over most things . . . but for fancy dessert I’d definitely have to go with Tiramisu. Yum.

  77. My favorite dessert is apple charlot that my mother made with toast, stewed apples or apple sauce and lots of cinnamon. It was warm on cold evenings and spicy on cool evenings. So good.

  78. I’m in love with classics, with a twist. Whether it be clothing, books, or dessert (especially dessert). One of my favourite desserts was made for my 20th birthday. I was a classic chocolate chocolate chip cake but with the addition of Bailey’s which added a deliciously moist kick to the cake. The best part was the icing (buttercream) that was a bright pink and read HAPPEE BIRTHDAE AZRA in green icing just like Hagrid’s cake for Harry! http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-61lOn3Dc8cU/Tiblsfcky0I/AAAAAAAACms/lY1cjCWW8ZM/s400/HagridBirthdayCake.jpg

  79. I would definitely choose Sweet Potato Cupcakes with Brown Sugar Marshmallow frosting! Doesn’t that just make you DROOOOOOL?! :D

They just don’t have butter or milk in them and are delicious-ness in my mouth! Oh so joyful! That blender is beautifullllllll. The color?
    Thanks (:

  106. I would eat these perfect Dark Chocolate and Toasted Pecan Cookies with Browned Butter. They are the perfect combination of crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside with gooey chocolate and toasty pecans and slightly salty. But I figured I needed to quit being selfish and share them with the world :) http://bakerbettie.com/2012/02/16/dark-chocolate-and-toasted-pecan-cookies-with-browned-butter/

oh, how i wish random would work for me this time:P althoug, i’m not even sure if this could be sent to Europe? Kitchen Aid is my dream for long time now, but in Poland it’s now very popular and the price is bit high, too high.

    Good luck with everything! :)

  122. Chocolate Chip Cookies!!!

  123. This is such a difficult decision but I think I would have to choose banana pudding! :) At least then I can pretend like it’s healthy since it has fruit and dairy! And that blue KitchenAid is the most perfect color blue ever!!!! :) :) :)

  124. Bakerella, this is a hard decision…. But, I think I would choose warm and gooey chocolate chip cookies straight from the oven. Nothing brings comfort and a feeling of home like they do!

  142. Homemade tiramisu! Its heaven with every bite :)

  152. I would eat carrot cake!!!!

  153. I love all desserts but I could not live without jello! Simple but totally overlooked!!

  154. Turkey Hill brand Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream. Green and minty but not overpowering. The chocolate is actually chocolate shavings and not hard chips.

  155. Wow! What a great color! I would have to pick loaded carrot cake cupcakes. They have everything I love in them and they are so satisfying.

  156. I’m kind of boring, but I would have to go with plain ol’ vanilla ice cream. It’s my favorite flavor and there’s nothing better than a bowl of vanilla ice cream on a hot, summer day. :-)

  157. My very-favorite dessert…if I could eat only one sweet thing for all of eternity…Irish Cream Tiramisu!

That blue Kitchen Aid is gorgeous! Seeing all the Kitchen Aid colors lined up is absolutely uh-may-zing.

  158. I would have the rest of my life be filled with mint chocolate chip ice cream…in a waffle cone! ^_^

  159. Ice cream, hands down. Especially anything with mint and chocolate in it…

  160. Chocolate Honeycomb. In Australia they called it Victoria candybars. I’m not Aussie. Just found that out one day. We used to buy chunks of it at Sears. Its marvelous.

  161. I have a great lemon bar recipe and I would choose it. Yum.

  162. Mmm…brownies.

  163. I love brownies. It’s almost impossible to choose just one. I will for the chance to win a mixer…but in reality, there is no way I can choose just one. :) Glad you had a good time this past weekend. :)

  164. One dessert would definately have to be oreo truffles, they are just mouthwatering!

  165. So, I don’t know why but this didn’t take from my phone…my favorite is my mother’s rhubarb pie! A close second is Blue Bell mint chocolate chip ice cream.

Also, I love the blue and the apple green…saw them on QVC about a month ago and couldn’t decide which one. I’ve wanted one for a long time now…

  166. That is a hard one to answer! I’d have to say buttermilk pie because it is just so damn good! That is one dessert that I cannot pass on, and one that I never want to share. Love it!

  167. red velvet cake waffles with a cream cheese syrup!

  168. I would have a hard time chosing between chocolate with chocolate icing, or German Chocolate, must have pecan and cocount icing though. :D Anything chocolate though!!

  169. oooh what a tough choice!! so many delicious choices… between NYC cheesecake, or banana bread, or rocky road brownies, or ben & jerry’s ice cream… i think my final choice has to be peanut butter cookies! they’re my lifelong favorite!

  170. I could survive for the rest of my life on the iced shortbread cookies that my Nammy taught me to make! And I would give anything to win a Kitchenaid mixer, let alone this beautiful blue one!

  171. baklava for life!

  172. My favorite dessert is fresh homemade apple crisp with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Thanks for hosting this contest. Love your blog!

  173. Classic New York Cheesecake.

  174. Mine is a cake actually, spice cake and dark chocolate with an irish cream frosting, it can either be half and half or marbled,.

  175. If I had to eat just one dessert for the rest of my life it would be the chocolate melting pot cake dessert that they serve on Carnival Cruises! I just love how sweet and warm the chocolate filling is!!

  176. The rest of my life would probably be filled with New York styled cheesecake…can’t get enough!!

  177. red velvet whoopie pies!!

  178. Probably Cheesecake. I love it just about anyway it can be made. But Dulce De Leche is from Cheesecake factory is devine. BUT my Mom made a refrigerator pie with graham cracker crust, cream cheese type filling and blueberry pie filling as the topping with whipped cream…..growing up I always thought of it as Cheesecake….I would eat this everyday of my life if I could. It’s the nostalgia thang!!! Florida looked fun and fabulous…so glad you had a good time!!!!

  179. Ooooo, that’s so hard! I think I’d have to go with a cookie. Definitely a browned butter cookie, as simple as just nuts or chocolate chips, or as crazy as toasted nuts, pretzels, white chocolate chips, chocolate chips, oats, and more!

And now I desperately want to make cookies. AUGH.

  180. If i could only eat one sweet for the rest of my life, IT WOULD BE NUTELLA. That way, I can have it all by itself if I want something sweet, but if I’m feeling like some good carbs too, I can just spread it on some yummy bread or something. :)
    It’s the perfect sweet treat!

  181. I would want anything with ganache!!

  182. I would have to go with a gooey brownie. It would be ultimate if I had ice cream on top, but does that count as 2 desserts?
    I love that blue mixer!!!

  183. I can’t NOT have potato chips. So, potato chips!

  184. If I had to eat one sweet for the rest of my life, It would have to be chocolate cake. (Death by chocolate cake anyone?) You can do dark chocolate, milk chocolate…devils food..because even “alright” chocolate cake…is still chocolate cake. And I can never get enough frosting..or ganache. Oh ganache.
…Now I have to go bake one. It would be easier with a gorgeous mixer!

  185. I would definitely pick my apple pie. what can i say i am a pie fanatic……… if you give me anything in pie form i will eat it :)

  186. That’s HARD! I would probably choose the texas sheet cake that my mom always made when I was growing up. It’s delicious and chocolatey and it makes me think of happy times with people I love. I make it for my family now and everyone always loves it.

  187. peanut butter balls!!!

  188. Well, cheesecake seems to be a popular choice, and I hate to go with popular, but it’s my choice as well. But the “old-fashioned” creamy kind rather than New York style. No toppings. Just plain, unadulterated, creamy cheesecake.

  189. If I could have only one dessert for the rest of my life it would be french silk pie. You get everything, slightly salty from the crust, deep chocolate from the mousse and creamy whipped from the topping…yum! I need one right now:)

  190. Chocolate chip cookies! I will love them forever and ever. And there are so many different great recipes, and ways to make them… I made an awesome one-pan skillet chocolate chip cookie recipe the other day, and it’s a definite keeper.

  191. I love cheesecake especially my coconut lime cheesecake. Love love love. By the way, what a prize. A new KitchenAid mixer. Good luck everyone.

  192. banana nutella crepes. Homemade of course. With whipped cream on top. And strawberries.
or my mom’s blueberry pie, cooked over a campfire.

  193. Gluten free red velvet cake balls with cream cheese icing covered with white chocolate!

  194. It would totally be an adzuki cream puff that is sold by a local bakery!

  195. It would definitely be my mothers Sour Cream Cookies..!! Light, Melt in Your Mouth jewels with a light glaze of powdered sugar frosting . I remember helping her make these when I was 12 years old when I first got interested in cooking/baking. I still make these 54 years later, but only on special occasions because they so hard to resist..!! Cheers…

  196. Russian Tea Biscuits – they’re the perfect mix between a scone and a cookie, and go great with a cup of coffee. Yum.

  197. I love peanut caramel apples. The apple is slightly sour, the caramel is sweet and the peanuts are salty. It’s like the perfect food!

  198. Nice giveaway. Love the flowers in your post!
I think that I would have to choose rhubarb cobbler with vanilla ice cream of course.

  199. Holy smokes! What a give-awaY!!

I would live off of ….. Rev Velvet Cake …. from Fast Eddie’s in Tok, Alaska …. They make it homemade – about 5 layers – the perfect combo of chocolate and red dye to …. die for! And the icing …. a wonderful mix of sugar and cream cheese … and not too much – just enough to be perfect!
(Sadly, since it’s location, it’s not an easy piece of cake to get)

  200. wow.. that is such a hard question. i think i might go with macarons. pistachio flavored ones with a white chocolate raspberry ganache filling. i’m in loveee with them!
