Food Blog Forum and Something Brand New and Bright Blue

This post doesn’t involve baking from this weekend
but there’s something pretty sweet at the end I think you’ll like.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Okay, so I’ve been out of town for the last two weekends. First, Chicago for the Home and Housewares Show

IMG_9497

and last weekend somewhere a little bit warmer.

I was in sunny Florida for a weekend conference full of learning and sharing with friends – and a bunch of food and fun thrown in.

IMG_9522

Food Blog Forum Orlando. Put on by Jaden Hair of Steamy Kitchen, Todd & Diane of White On Rice Couple, Julie Deily of The Little Kitchen and Dawn Viola.

And sponsored by Disney, Kitchenaid, OXO, Land O’ Lakes, Whole Foods, Le Creuset and more.

The meeting was held at Walt Disney World and it was amazing. So well done. Julie from the Little Kitchen knows how to put together a great event. I was there with a bunch of great speakers. (See the whole group here) Alison Lewis (Ingredients, Inc.) and I spoke at round table discussions on writing a cookbook. I really enjoyed the round table set up because we were able to talk one-on-one with people and that’s much more my speed. I don’t think I’d be very good at getting up in front of a big room of people and talking. There would be a lot of umms and likes and pauses I’m sure.

photo19

On the evening before the meeting, we had a beautiful outdoor reception at the Grand Floridian. My sweet friend Jenny (Picky Palate) and I met some great girls. Nikki (Pennies on a Platter), Krissy (Krissy’s Creations), Julie (Table for Two) and Rachel (The Fabulous Foodie). Hi girls. Thanks for making Magic Kingdom such a blast!

Untitled-1

We hit up a few rides and went on a search for Dole Whip and churros before the park closed. It was my first time trying either. So yum! Thanks for sharing these phone pics girls.

We spent all day Saturday at Epcot where the meeting was held.

Untitled-2

It was definitely a special place to have a meeting. Not only were there great speakers, yummy treats, amazing prizes, like stand mixers and refrigerators, Le creusets and more but when we were done, we had a huge world to explore.

IMG_9445

If only I could have seen it all. I’ve never been to Epcot. I had no idea how ginormous this park was. Actually, I still don’t know how big it is. But that’s okay because what I did see was perfect.

photo12

We had an incredible lunch extravaganza prepared by Disney chefs from the parks and hotels.

Untitled-3

I focused on dessert of course.

Untitled-4

Lunch gave us all more time to talk.

Here’s Lauren’s Latest, Julie, Krissy and Jenny.

And I finally finally met Elise from Simply Recipes. Yay! Hope we can chat more next time.

Alison and Jenny. Love you guys.

And sweet, sweet Julie. Again, great job on pulling this event together.

IMG_9729

On Sunday we had a brunch hosted by Whole Foods. Incredible food means the cameras come out.

IMG_9649

See what I mean. That’s Dawn in the back, Julie and Jenny, and then Lindsey (Love and Olive Oil) in the front.

This might be one of my favorite pics from the weekend. It just makes me giggle at how we all do the same thing as bloggers. It’s almost uncontrollable when you have a camera in your hand.

IMG_9663

But in our defense, the flowers were pretty cheery.

IMG_9705

I enjoyed this weekend so much.

Hi Emily (Sage Recipes) and Kiran (Kirantarun)! It was nice meeting you both. Hope to see you again. And you too Droolius and Simply Southern Baking.

Thanks for a weekend of great memories with old friends and new!

So now the fun part.

I’m having an amazing giveaway today.

If you read last week’s post, you may remember some of the new products I talked about from the Home and Housewares Show in Chicago. One of them was this Kitchenaid mixer in Crystal Blue, the brand new color from the Catalina Collection that I fell in love with.

catalina-collection

Well, I met some of the folks from Kitchenaid in Chicago for the first time and and then coincidentally, we met again in Orlando the very next weekend as they were one of the sponsors of Food Blog Forum. It was a surprise to see them two weeks in a row. We talked about how much I loved the brand new color they debuted in Chicago and we thought it would be a fun giveaway here on bakerella.com.

KitchenAidCrystlblueWant to brighten up your kitchen and be one of the first people to own a mixer in this brand new, bright blue color courtesy of Kitchenaid? I know I would. It’s such a happy color. And much more vibrant in person.

SORRY, TIME’S UP! Winner Announced Below.

  • One winner will be chosen at random and announced sometime Wednesday evening.

Reading all of your sweet choices are driving me crazy. I have cravings now for way too many treats.

I don’t know if I could pick just one either. But warm brownies and ice cream are always a safe bet for me. No nuts. No whipped cream. No syrup. Plain and simple chocolate and vanilla. Warm and cold deliciousness.

Okay, ready for the winner?

It’s comment #6224 – Leann

Congratulations and enjoy your bright blue baby. Hope you make lots of amazing desserts and smile every time you look at it.

  3. It’s so hard to choose, but I love me some Red Velvet cake with cream cheese frosting. It’s so yummy and I just love the combination of it. It’s just perfect. =)

  4. My favorite dessert would be Turtle Brownies. You get caramel and chocolate all in one bite.

  5. So difficult to choose one, but if I had to…I think it would have to be chocolate chip cookies!

  6. Nutella brownies!!

  7. I’d have to say Italian Cream Cake (pro. Eye-talian by a good many members of my family). My G-ma’s recipe is my favorite. The entire thing is from scratch. Yum!

  8. Definitely Red Velvet cupcakes with Cream Cheese frosting. I’ve scoured Minneapolis bakeries for the best and have had so many but they just don’t ever stop being delicious.

  9. Cherry Pie. Definitely cherry pie.

  10. White chocolate macadamia nut cookies, fresh out of the oven, and still gooey!!

  11. I would have to pick, hands down, Cherry Pie!! But not the fake filling or sweet cherry kind. It has to be the tart cherries with a hint of almond extract! Mmmm…being pregnant right now, I think I may just have to go make one. Bakerella, my hips thank you!!! :-)

  12. Hey white chocolate and toffee cheesecake with a chewy caramel biscuit base! Mmmm xxx

    Love your site!

  14. Anything with chocolate and peanut butter!

  15. This is a tough one. I’m torn between chocolate chip cookies and banana pudding. I’m leaning towards the cookie though. So simple and perfect!

  17. Sprinkles Red Velvet Cupcakes. Delish!!!

  18. Chocolate Chip Cookies. Stick with a classic! Thanks for the giveaway.

  19. wow, what a loaded question. I don’t think in reality I could just pick one thing. I love so many different combinations. But for this question lets go with pb and graham cracker bon bons, from off the box of graham cracker crumbs. they are the bomb, and covered in chocolate just make them that much better. You cant go wrong with peanut butter and chocolate together. :)

  20. I would eat chocolate icing! I love it on everything!

  21. I would choose a rich, dark chocolate cake, with fudgy chocolate frosting. Perfection, right there! Thanks for the chance to win!

  22. I would choose a thick, rich, buttery piece of shortbread because it’s a great dessert or just anytime at all. Love it with coffee in the morning. What a beautiful blue Kitchen Aid. It would look so good in my kitchen I would keep it on the counter all the time, not hidden away in some cabinet.

  23. Hmm if I could only eat one sweet treat for the rest of my life, I would have to choose a funfetti cupcake with vanilla icing and sprinkles. This is always my go to dessert. My niece and nephews love them as well. I am always trying out new baking recipes on them and they never seem to mind. :)

  24. I would choose my Grandma Cookie’s Chocolate Chip Cookies because they are the best!

  25. Speaking of Orlando…The Ritz there has the most amazing peanut butter & jelly filled chocolates that are amazing. I could eat them for the rest of my life!

It’s difficult to decide whether it would be the old fashioned bread pudding with vanilla sauce that my grandmother makes, the chocolate croissant bread pudding with dried cherries that my best friend makes, or the bread pudding made from day old danishes that a diner here in my town makes – it’s never the same twice, but it is always indulgent.

  44. i think either creme brulee or the chocolate bag at lawry’s prime rib. that thing is decadent!!

  45. I would pick flan. I love that stuff!

  46. Normally I would just say “cookies,” but since we’re being specific… there’s a bakery nearby that makes these walnut studded sugar cookies with a lemon buttercream icing that are just divine. Rich, chewy, just the right amount of lemony goodness. No matter how hard I’m trying to be good, those suckers will get me every.single.time. So good.

  47. I would have to say Chocolate chip cookie. They are a classic, and I’d NEVER get tired of them!

  49. pillow cookies!!!

  50. If I could ONLY pick one, I would probably have to go with…drum roll please…chocolate ice cream. I know it sounds boring, but I can’t eat enough of the stuff!

  51. If it had to be one thing it would have to be this traditional Maltese delicacy called Helwa Tat-Tork- The Turk’s sweet. It’s a crumbly almond, super sugary and incredibly addictive sweet. It reminds me of my childhood and I could Happily eat it forever.

  53. Oh my, I would have loved to be at WDW when such a wonderful group was there! Especially since I only live about 2 hours away! He loves them, too, and he’s not really a cheesecake fan!

  54. I would eat Bluebell Homemade Vanilla ice cream, it is so my favorite! :) I would so <3 a kitchen aid in this color, it would go perfectly with my kitchen!

  55. Hmmmm…That’s a hard question, but I would say Gooey Butter Cake! It is awesome!

  56. I would have to say: RED VELVET CHEESECAKE
The combo of New York-style cheesecake and rich red velvet cake with a sweet cream cheese frosting. Each slice is packed with creamy goodness, extremely delicious, and worth the every calorie! Yum!

  57. Hello Bakerella,

  91. My mom’s cream puffs with whipped cream, chocolate sauce, strawberries and powdered sugar! Yumm!

  92. Honestly, of all the possible answers swirling in my head, I’d have to say my mother’s volcano pudding would be my choice. It’s a chocolatey fudge cake that bakes in its own fudge sauce, and it’s pretty amazing (especially with a scoop of ice cream melting over it). It got its name from an oven explosion that occurred one of the first times she made it.

  93. It would have to be freshly homemade pumpkin chocolate cake! The consistency is amazing and the flavors meld together so wonderfully… magnificent!

  112. this might be weird…but carrot cake with cream cheese frosting

  113. At first I thought it would have to be chocolate brownies with pecans and a special chocolate glaze I put on top of the ones I make. But, after a little more thought, I’ve decided on homemade peach cobbler, made from homegrown peaches , with a touch of cinnamon, and regular pie crust dough. The top has to be dotted with butter and sprinkled with sugar. Served warm, with or without vanilla ice cream, this cobbler is not just dessert, believe me. 118. a strawberry cream cake from a local bakery in South Louisiana

  119. I’d have to say key lime cheesecake with a layer of extra tart key lime filling, on a chocolate crust.

But darn it, now I just scrolled up and saw Abby’s choice of red velvet cupcakes with a classic cream cheese frosting. Add a surprise chocolate ganache center, and I’m in!

    Thanks! :-)

    Hrm. This is tough.

I’m going to say monster cookies. And only because I switch up the stuff that goes in them (I’m totally cheating here). I could eat cookies all day and all night. I even tried to make them into oatmeal. Didn’t work. :)

  130. Wow! Hard choice because I love my baked goods but I would go with…my new favorite cookie I bake which is cookies & cream it’s really like you get 2 cookies in one! Oreos baked into a chocolate chip cookie :)

  131. It would have to be ginger ice cream

  132. One dessert? I would totally chose a chocolate chunk brownie with rich peanut butter frosting.

  133. Ben and Jerry chocolate brownie ice cream. For the rest of my life. Mmmmmmm! But only the pints with soft, fresh brownies. I’ve had the dry crumbly brownies in my pints several times. It’s always a big disappointment.

  134. I couldn’t live in a world without doughnuts! A life without jelly filled balls of dough would not be worth living! :)

  151. I’d have to say that would be a rosemary lemon butter cookie I recently made. I think I ate the whole batch!

  153. Chocolate Chip Cookies!!! The soft chewy kind!!!

  154. Peanut butter ice cream!! Sort of random but I am obsessed!!

    Thanks for the chance!

  171. I made a from-scratch chocolate cream pie a week or so ago for my daughter’s 1st birthday. It was so incredibly delicious I seriously think it could be something I would eat every day if I could, though that would be disastrous for my fitness goals.

  172. A perfectly ripe dark-chocolate dipped strawberry. With the shell just slightly soft so it doesn’t fall apart when you bite into it. My dessert nirvana.

  173. If I only got to eat ONE dessert for the rest of my life, it would absolutely be Basque cake–custardy, almondy, crumbly-sweet! Eggs are my favorite food, and I love the delicate flavor of almonds, so Basque Cake is definitely it for me!
