Food Blog Forum and Something Brand New and Bright Blue

This post doesn’t involve baking from this weekend
but there’s something pretty sweet at the end I think you’ll like.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Okay, so I’ve been out of town for the last two weekends. First, Chicago for the Home and Housewares Show

IMG_9497

and last weekend somewhere a little bit warmer.

I was in sunny Florida for a weekend conference full of learning and sharing with friends – and a bunch of food and fun thrown in.

IMG_9522

Food Blog Forum Orlando. Put on by Jaden Hair of Steamy Kitchen, Todd & Diane of White On Rice Couple, Julie Deily of The Little Kitchen and Dawn Viola.

And sponsored by Disney, Kitchenaid, OXO, Land O’ Lakes, Whole Foods, Le Creuset and more.

The meeting was held at Walt Disney World and it was amazing. So well done. Julie from the Little Kitchen knows how to put together a great event. I was there with a bunch of great speakers. (See the whole group here) Alison Lewis (Ingredients, Inc.) and I spoke at round table discussions on writing a cookbook. I really enjoyed the round table set up because we were able to talk one-on-one with people and that’s much more my speed. I don’t think I’d be very good at getting up in front of a big room of people and talking. There would be a lot of umms and likes and pauses I’m sure.

On the evening before the meeting, we had a beautiful outdoor reception at the Grand Floridian. My sweet friend Jenny (Picky Palate) and I met some great girls. Nikki (Pennies on a Platter), Krissy (Krissy’s Creations), Julie (Table for Two) and Rachel (The Fabulous Foodie). Hi girls. Thanks for making Magic Kingdom such a blast!

Untitled-1

We hit up a few rides and went on a search for Dole Whip and churros before the park closed. It was my first time trying either. So yum! Thanks for sharing these phone pics girls.

We spent all day Saturday at Epcot where the meeting was held.

Untitled-2

It was definitely a special place to have a meeting. Not only were there great speakers, yummy treats, amazing prizes, like stand mixers and refrigerators, Le creusets and more but when we were done, we had a huge world to explore.

IMG_9445

If only I could have seen it all. I’ve never been to Epcot. I had no idea how ginormous this park was. Actually, I still don’t know how big it is. But that’s okay because what I did see was perfect.

photo12

We had an incredible lunch extravaganza prepared by Disney chefs from the parks and hotels.

Untitled-3

I focused on dessert of course.

Untitled-4

Lunch gave us all more time to talk.

Here’s Lauren’s Latest, Julie, Krissy and Jenny.

And I finally finally met Elise from Simply Recipes. Yay! Hope we can chat more next time.

Alison and Jenny. Love you guys.

And sweet, sweet Julie. Again, great job on pulling this event together.

IMG_9729

On Sunday we had a brunch hosted by Whole Foods. Incredible food means the cameras come out.

IMG_9649

See what I mean. That’s Dawn in the back, Julie and Jenny, and then Lindsey (Love and Olive Oil) in the front.

This might be one of my favorite pics from the weekend. It just makes me giggle at how we all do the same thing as bloggers. It’s almost uncontrollable when you have a camera in your hand.

IMG_9663

But in our defense, the flowers were pretty cheery.

IMG_9705

I enjoyed this weekend so much.

Hi Emily (Sage Recipes) and Kiran (Kirantarun)! It was nice meeting you both. Hope to see you again. And you too Droolius and Simply Southern Baking.

Thanks for a weekend of great memories with old friends and new!

So now the fun part.

I’m having an amazing giveaway today.

If you read last week’s post, you may remember some of the new products I talked about from the Home and Housewares Show in Chicago. One of them was this Kitchenaid mixer in Crystal Blue, the brand new color from the Catalina Collection that I fell in love with.

catalina-collection

Well, I met some of the folks from Kitchenaid in Chicago for the first time and and then coincidentally, we met again in Orlando the very next weekend as they were one of the sponsors of Food Blog Forum. It was a surprise to see them two weeks in a row. We talked about how much I loved the brand new color they debuted in Chicago and we thought it would be a fun giveaway here on bakerella.com.

KitchenAidCrystlblueWant to brighten up your kitchen and be one of the first people to own a mixer in this brand new, bright blue color courtesy of Kitchenaid? I know I would. It’s such a happy color. And much more vibrant in person.

  • Deadline to enter is Wednesday, March 28th at 5 pm ET.

SORRY, TIME’S UP! Winner Announced Below.

  • One winner will be chosen at random and announced sometime Wednesday evening.

oh and FYI – the Crystal Blue color should be available for purchase starting sometime in April.

Reading all of your sweet choices are driving me crazy. I have cravings now for way too many treats.

I don’t know if I could pick just one either. But warm brownies and ice cream are always a safe bet for me. No nuts. No whipped cream. No syrup. Plain and simple chocolate and vanilla. Warm and cold deliciousness.

Okay, ready for the winner?

It’s comment #6224 – Leann

Congratulations and enjoy your bright blue baby. Hope you make lots of amazing desserts and smile every time you look at it.

  87. A chance to win a beautiful blue mixer!?!? Yes, please!! And if I could only pick on dessert to eat forever, it would have to be chocolate chip cookies. Might sound boring, but I can’t pass them up!

  88. If I could only have one sweet the rest of my life I think I would just go with the classic Chocolate Chip Cookie (maybe through in some PB chips on occasion!). Chewy and Crisp around the edges, with the perfect amount of chocolate, and good at any time. :)

  89. My Irish Car Bomb cupcakes. First, I make them in a Texas muffin tin – these have their own gravitational pull! I make the cake with Guinness, the ganache center with Scharffenberger chocolate and Bailey’s Irish Cream, and a Bailey’s butter cream frosting. It’s the most wonderful blend of chocolate, textures and Irish Cream!!!

  90. O.Henry bars. Not sure if that’s what they’re actually called, but that’s what my grandmother called them (and what my mother calls them, and I call them, and my daughters call them). And now, almost 50 years later people sell them. But moms still the best! I’ve implemented them with a bit of my favorite Creamcheese or Buttercream SUPER FLUFFY FROSTING with some sliced fruit thats in season….yumminessness!!!!!
By the way, thats MY favorite color too, what a feel good color isn’t it? Infact I painted my kitchen that color <3

  99. Coming from a Chinese family, desserts were never a regular part of our meals, but rather a part of Sunday Dim Sum brunch. One of my fondest memories growing up were of scooping out the insides of at least half a dozen egg custard tarts before my mom said I should try eating the toasty crust because I was really missing the full experience. Mom’s are always right! I never scooped out another tart again. =)

  100. Cherry Berry on a Cloud! Yum! It’s meringue baked in a pan, then you mix cream cheese, whipped cream and mini marshmallows, spread that over the top, then you mix frozen strawberries and cherry pie filling and add some to each plate. Except I just like mine plain!

  101. Hands down creme brulee would win every time. I adore that stuff.

  102. Lime sherbert! There was never a time when my Grammy didn’t have it in her freezer when I was a kid! So yummy!

Perfect combination of a drenched cake texture feel with deep espresso flavor and dreamy-creamy mascarpone cheese… Not to sweet…. More of a perfect ending to a delicious dinner…YUM!!

  108. easy answer…frosted sugar cookies. :)

  109. I’d have to go with ice cream cake, simple and delicious!

  110. I would eat divinity forever and ever. Homemade, no nuts.

  111. Only one??? That’s so tough! Chocolate ice cream with reeses and butterfinger. That’s my recent fav!

  112. mascarpone gelato with strawberries…mmhmmm

  113. I would eat white chocolate Oreos. I cannot get enough of them and can eat almost an entire package at one sitting, which is why I do not buy them anymore!:)

  114. I make a mean pineapple upside down cake, my mother’s recipe…and I just discovered a way to make individual ones in a jumbo muffin pan! Psst…it has rum in it!

  115. Mexican wedding cakes!! I adore those little pecan shortbread balls of goodness rolled in powdered sugar!!! Omg! Delicious!!

  116. Cream Puffs!! Drizzled with chocolate of course!

I love this new colour, it happens to be my favourite! Last week when I saw it I got so excited! It was one of my wedding colours even.

  117. Lime sherbet! There was never a time that my Grammy didn’t have it in her freezer when I was a kid! So yummy!

  118. Looks like a fun, fun conference!

If I could only eat 1 kind of dessert for the rest of my life it would be cheesecake. I’d have to mix up the toppings for it a little bit- strawberry, chocolate sauce, raspberry, caramel etc. to make sure I didn’t get too sick of it. :)

  119. One dessert? Is that possible? LOL I think I’d have to say brownies that are swirled with cheesecake. That way I’d get the chocolate, but still also get my cream cheese fix. Not sure what I’d do about my developing love for white chocolate though. :0) That would be a hard one!

At least I’d enjoy making those brownies in my new crystal blue Kitchenaid mixer!

  120. European Gelati…I love, love, love the coconut mixed with any kind of chocolate. Yum>>>

  121. Chocolate chip cookies…..they are just the best

  122. Just one dessert for the rest of my life? Hmm… I would have to go with yellow cake with chocolate buttercream!

  123. A salted caramel chocolate Cupcake with Butter cream frosting

  124. Peanut butter oatmeal cookies with chocolate chips. Forever and ever. Yum. Not to sweet, though. I actually make them “healthy” enough to sometimes have for breakfast! (:

  125. Snickerdoodles…the soft and thick ones!!!! Brings back all kinds of great childhood memories….mmmmmmm

  126. Brownies, I love brownies, any and all bnrownies, but I do love some cream cheese frosting with them!!

  133. One dessert forever? Nothing but peanut butter cookies would do.

  134. WOW this is a great give away! I am buying a house in April and this would be a great thing to have! I have been dying to bake & make my own food again! AND I already have been planing to paint the kitchen a blue color!! I would eat brownies baked in a cupcake tin for the rest of my life, if only given one dessert to pick from! I dont know what it is about cupcake brownies but they taste SOO much better then baking them in a sheet pan!

  135. It would be a yellow cake with milk chocolate frosting. When I bite it, it’s like a party in my mouth. bye gotta go make one now.

  136. This is especially hard because I can’t eat sweets. I make them, but don’t eat them. So, if I could let just one sweet BACK into my life, what would it be??? I’d say of course chocolate something, but what about lemon? Something dense, but what about light? I know . . . Since we get to change the rules of the universe for this, I get a testing period to help me decide! You can come over for the testing period!

  137. If I could only eat one kind of sweet for the rest of my life.. I would choose French Vanilla Ice cream. You can make all different kinds of milkshakes with them AND they are fabulous with french fries – my two guilty pleasures! :)

  143. Chocolate chip cookies!

  144. Dark Chocolate Fondue with all the fixings! :)

  145. Difficult to choose but I have to go with my grandmother’s apple pie. Flaky & tender crust, lots of cinnamon & nutmeg and cortland apples. Yummy.

  146. Wow, that’s a tough one! But I would probably go with a good old-fashioned chocolate chip cookie. Original Toll House version, please!

  147. I would have to stick with a classic. Vanilla cupcakes with a buttercream frosting. You can’t go wrong. You can decorate them up or down as much as you want and you really can’t get sick of them.

  148. I would have to pick brownies with pecans. YUMMM!

  149. If I could only have one dessert……….. Would have to go with cinnamon cupcakes. Just discovered them a few weeks ago and they are now my favorite. And would I ever LOVE to win this mixer!

  150. I wanted to say: tart of mousse of chocolate with CALAFATE sauce!!!!!!
    i’m so nervous!!!

  157. Hello Dollys for sure. Nothing beats chocolate and coconut!

  158. Pecan pie… For sure :)

  160. I would have to say red velvet cake. Its always good.

  161. oooooooooooo it’s so hard to choose just one but if I had to I guess I would have to go with mint chocolate chip ice cream!

  162. It would definitely be New York style cheesecake with raspberry coulis.

  163. El tiramisú

  164. It would have to be brownies. Plain brownies, with vanilla ice cream. YUM.

  165. If I could eat one dessert for the rest of my life it would have to cake balls. More specifically cotton candy flavored cake balls! I have an obsession with cotton candy and I was doing some experimenting once using cotton candy flavoring in the cake mix and frosting and dipped them in blue and pink white chocolate. Let me put it this way, they were AMAZING!

  166. I couldn’t live without Dulce de Leche Napoleon. Flaky layers of golden puff pastry, sweet pastry cream, and dulce de leche make me swoon with every bite.

and a big glass of milk. yum

  173. chocolate meringue pie…. if I had to choose only one favorite! You can never go wrong with chocolate! and the creamy-ness is soooooo comforting! thanks for the giveaway opportunity!
(and we’re heading to disney world in april – thanks for the peek!)

  174. I am in love with brownies..especially ones with carmel and chocolate chips floating around inside of every bite. This dessert is not only my favorite, but it is quick and easy for those unexpected company is coming over in 30 minutes days :)

  175. it would definitly be red velvet cake balls- they are so moist, they just melt in your mouth!! yummy!

  176. love love the new colors! :) and peanut butter pie ftw!

  177. Oh boy . . . if I had to pick just one, probably chocolate chip cookies with nuts in them. My gut reaction was brownies, but if it’s forever I need something to balance all of that chocolate!

  178. cookie….. ginger snap, to be exact! Love them year round!! P.S. I sold another Cake Pop book on Saturday!! Love ya!!

    Rene

  179. If I could only eat one dessert for the rest of my life, it would definately be vanilla ice-cream and berries. Is that cheezy? If so, oh well, I love vanilla ice-cream and berries…you can add nuts…you can add chocoloate…you can add caramel…etc. I think you get my drift. OH! And a cup of coffee to go wtih it. :) Love you Bakerella!

  180. mama pea’s (from peas and thank you) peanut butter dough balls : )

  181. That’s a hard one, probably vanilla creme brulee. I’m plain like that…

  182. I would have to say Brownie a la Mode! Nothing beats a warm brownie with a scoop of melting ice cream! Thanks for the chance to win such a great prize!

  183. How sad that would be to only be able to enjoy one dessert for the rest of my life! I’d rather have dessert than the main course any day:) Anyway, choosing only one would mean me choosing chocolate chip/chunk cookies. YUM! I’m salivating now and we’re nowhere close to lunch…

  184. oh so hard to choose…but i have to say i literally say ummmm after every bite of the cheesecake factory white choc raspberry cheesecake…my husband gets annoyed everytime i eat a peice :)

  185. If I had to choose, I would say creme brulee…with coffee of course. Yum!

  186. Cheese Cake Pops coated in dark chocolate for sure!

  187. This is SUCH a tough one! But I would probably have to say my mom’s rhubarb dessert, just because for me, it probably has almost everything in there that a dessert should have: it’s sweet (read: you can add as much powdered sugar as you want, hehe), moisty cake mixture because my mom uses a römertopf to bake it in and because of the rhubarb, and finally it has the bit of sourness from the rhubarb to contrast everything with.

Basically, it’s a delish, moist, cake-y, sweet and most importantly very homely dessert that I could eat for ever!

  188. Chocolate covered strawberries. Hands down. Possibly with some cheesecake filling… but probably just regular! <3

  189. I think, as of right now, I’d have to go with Jelly Belly jelly beans! Love those things!

  190. I just love butter cakes with simple icing on top and nuts
    Love your butter cake recipe
    Thanks for sharing

  191. Dark chocolate cupcake with cream filling and pnut butter frosting. They’ll kill ya, but MAN are they good!

  192. My Mom’s Cookie Bars – Chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, and always ALWAYS Walnuts!…..must be eaten fresh out of the oven, of course!

  193. Hmmm… lemon cupcakes or butterscotch oatmeal cookies… I can’t decide!! :D

  194. German Chocolate cake with the gooey coconut frosting and a very cold glass of milk

  195. It would have to be something chocolate. Like this incredible dessert I had at a banquet last week. It was chocolate cake with a scoop of chocolate mousse covered in chocholate fundge on a plate of fudge sauce swirled with vanilla cream, with slices strawberries. It was absolutely amazing.

  196. Wow, one dessert?! There are so many to choose from…and my tastes have changed over a lifetime and will continue to change. So, for this exact moment in time I would have to say French Macarons because you can make them almost any flavor! If I had to pick a flavor I would say filled with a rosewater and lychee white chocolate ganache! But that’s just today.

  197. Hands down, my mom has a recipe called Moist Chocolate Cake with the most amazing white frosting. That’s all I would need for the rest of my life.

  198. Oh what a fun time in Orlando… My all time favorite sweet is Boston Creme Pie – but really good Toll House Cookies are a VERY close second! Thanks SO much for the chance to win the AWESOME mixer :)

  199. One kind of dessert for the rest of my life? Without a doubt, hands down, dark chocolate fudgy brownies with vanilla frosting on top. Once in a while, for flavor, I just might make the frosting raspberry. Divine.

  200. one dessert? my mom’s faux cherry cheesecake. no baking required and on an oreo crust. absolutely heavenly!
