Food Blog Forum and Something Brand New and Bright Blue

This post doesn’t involve baking from this weekend
but there’s something pretty sweet at the end I think you’ll like.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Okay, so I’ve been out of town for the last two weekends. First, Chicago for the Home and Housewares Show

IMG_9497

and last weekend somewhere a little bit warmer.

I was in sunny Florida for a weekend conference full of learning and sharing with friends – and a bunch of food and fun thrown in.

IMG_9522

Food Blog Forum Orlando. Put on by Jaden Hair of Steamy Kitchen, Todd & Diane of White On Rice Couple, Julie Deily of The Little Kitchen and Dawn Viola.

And sponsored by Disney, Kitchenaid, OXO, Land O’ Lakes, Whole Foods, Le Creuset and more.

The meeting was held at Walt Disney World and it was amazing. So well done. Julie from the Little Kitchen knows how to put together a great event. I was there with a bunch of great speakers. (See the whole group here) Alison Lewis (Ingredients, Inc.) and I spoke at round table discussions on writing a cookbook. I really enjoyed the round table set up because we were able to talk one-on-one with people and that’s much more my speed. I don’t think I’d be very good at getting up in front of a big room of people and talking. There would be a lot of umms and likes and pauses I’m sure.

photo19

On the evening before the meeting, we had a beautiful outdoor reception at the Grand Floridian. My sweet friend Jenny (Picky Palate) and I met some great girls. Nikki (Pennies on a Platter), Krissy (Krissy’s Creations), Julie (Table for Two) and Rachel (The Fabulous Foodie). Hi girls. Thanks for making Magic Kingdom such a blast!

Untitled-1

We hit up a few rides and went on a search for Dole Whip and churros before the park closed. It was my first time trying either. So yum! Thanks for sharing these phone pics girls.

We spent all day Saturday at Epcot where the meeting was held.

Untitled-2

It was definitely a special place to have a meeting. Not only were there great speakers, yummy treats, amazing prizes, like stand mixers and refrigerators, Le creusets and more but when we were done, we had a huge world to explore.

IMG_9445

If only I could have seen it all. I’ve never been to Epcot. I had no idea how ginormous this park was. Actually, I still don’t know how big it is. But that’s okay because what I did see was perfect.

photo12

We had an incredible lunch extravaganza prepared by Disney chefs from the parks and hotels.

Untitled-3

I focused on dessert of course.

Untitled-4

Lunch gave us all more time to talk.

Here’s Lauren’s Latest, Julie, Krissy and Jenny.

And I finally finally met Elise from Simply Recipes. Yay! Hope we can chat more next time.

Alison and Jenny. Love you guys.

And sweet, sweet Julie. Again, great job on pulling this event together.

IMG_9729

On Sunday we had a brunch hosted by Whole Foods. Incredible food means the cameras come out.

IMG_9649

See what I mean. That’s Dawn in the back, Julie and Jenny, and then Lindsey (Love and Olive Oil) in the front.

This might be one of my favorite pics from the weekend. It just makes me giggle at how we all do the same thing as bloggers. It’s almost uncontrollable when you have a camera in your hand.

IMG_9663

But in our defense, the flowers were pretty cheery.

IMG_9705

I enjoyed this weekend so much.

Hi Emily (Sage Recipes) and Kiran (Kirantarun)! It was nice meeting you both. Hope to see you again. And you too Droolius and Simply Southern Baking.

Untitled-5

Thanks for a weekend of great memories with old friends and new!

So now the fun part.

I’m having an amazing giveaway today.

If you read last week’s post, you may remember some of the new products I talked about from the Home and Housewares Show in Chicago. One of them was this Kitchenaid mixer in Crystal Blue, the brand new color from the Catalina Collection that I fell in love with.

catalina-collection

Well, I met some of the folks from Kitchenaid in Chicago for the first time and and then coincidentally, we met again in Orlando the very next weekend as they were one of the sponsors of Food Blog Forum. It was a surprise to see them two weeks in a row. We talked about how much I loved the brand new color they debuted in Chicago and we thought it would be a fun giveaway here on bakerella.com.

KitchenAidCrystlblueWant to brighten up your kitchen and be one of the first people to own a mixer in this brand new, bright blue color courtesy of Kitchenaid? I know I would. It’s such a happy color. And much more vibrant in person.

Enter for a chance to win this Crystal Blue 5-quart Artisan Stand Mixer from Kitchenaid!

  • Just leave a comment on this post here on the website and answer the following question.
  • If you could only eat one kind of sweet/dessert for the rest of your life, what would choose? And not just cookie or cupcake, etc. – but what kind if you can? I’m very curious.
  • Deadline to enter is Wednesday, March 28th at 5 pm ET.

SORRY, TIME’S UP! Winner Announced Below.

  • One winner will be chosen at random and announced sometime Wednesday evening.

GOOD LUCK GUYS!

oh and FYI – the Crystal Blue color should be available for purchase starting sometime in April.

Reading all of your sweet choices are driving me crazy. I have cravings now for way too many treats.

I don’t know if I could pick just one either. But warm brownies and ice cream are always a safe bet for me. No nuts. No whipped cream. No syrup. Plain and simple chocolate and vanilla. Warm and cold deliciousness.

Okay, ready for the winner?

It’s comment #6224 – Leann

Congratulations and enjoy your bright blue baby. Hope you make lots of amazing desserts and smile every time you look at it.

  35. For me, it would have to be chocolate covered pretzels. The salty, the sweet, the smooth, the crunchy…it is the perfect treat!

  36. I would have to go with divinity! With nuts. I know, I know, it’s very sweet but I have such a fondness for the sugary, stickiness, fluffy and white! It’s my weakness, so I try to keep it for a special occasion: Christmas. But I’d be lying if I said it never fell into my hands a couple of times throughout the year!

I LOVE this mixer color. My daughter’s middle name is Blue, so it would be perfect in my kitchen!

  57. I was a very strange child that didn’t like sweets at all, so my mom came up with a cake that didn’t have any icing on it. She makes a basic Strawberry Cake then mixes cool whip with frozen strawberries and that becomes my icing. Its so cool and refreshing and going on 25 years now its still the cake I request for my birthday!

  58. hmmm, I think I would have to go with just plain old cherry pie. Probably chilled. What would you choose?

  59. I would have to say my Mom’s Oatmeal Rice Crispy Cookies! It has the right amount of sweetness and crunchiness . It melts in your mouth. Plus my mom makes them… Can’t go wrong with mom!

  60. Warm devils food cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top, yummy!!

  61. My dessert of choice would have to be butterscotch pudding pie. It has been a favorite since I was a little girl and one I don’t have the opportunity to enjoy but once in a great while. So, to have it the rest of my life would be alright by me.

  62. it would be a tiramisu cupcake. :-)

  63. If I could only eat one sweet or dessert for the rest of my life I believe I would have to go with my homemade Devil’s Food Cheesecake. It’s sinfully delicious! A nice thick layer of devils food cake, a thick layer of homemade chocolate buttercream, two to three inches of New York style cheesecake no crust, more buttercream and another layer of my moist devils food cake all topped with the homemade chocolate buttercream with chocolate curls on top. I want one now. Too bad my mixer is broke!

  64. I would eat the S’Mores Cupcake from Cupkate’s Bakery (a food truck) in the San Francisco Bay Area. A close second: banana cream pie.

  65. I could probably forever love a good old fashioned choc chip cookie sandwich filled with choc ice cream! Wish I was there while this was going on! I have the Bakerella Book and a few others. I’ll be there during the Epcot Flower Show in April.

  66. I have always wanted one of these mixers and now they have this cheery blue! I have a long-term illness and extreme fatigue prevents me from making my favorite double chocolate chip with pecans cookies for friends and neighbors. I would love this mixer to get me back in the kitchen again-so would my friends and neighbors! Love your blog, glad your are feeling better!

  67. My birthday is this Thursday and my dream cake is strawberry shortcake. so I think that if I had to choose one desert it would have to be just that w a lot of whipped cream.

  84. Just one dessert for the rest of my life? Um.. I have not just a sweet tooth but sweet teeth :) I looooove every thing sweet and delicious. So picking just one is very hard.
So I’m choosing a home made chocolate cake with a layer of chocolate ganache and a layer of mascarpone+fresh raspberries+fresh strawberries.

  89. I think I would have to go with butterschotch brownies – So yummy they even beat out something with chocolate.

  90. I have a chocolate cake recipe that is very similar to PW’s chocolate sheet cake. You cook the frosting on top of the stove, then put it on the cake when it’s right out of the oven. That is my favorite of all time and i could not live without it.

  91. I’d eat plain chocolate brownies . I like things to be pure and there’s nothing tastier than warm brownies out of the oven. YUM!!

  92. Ugly Duck Cake – It’s a yellow cake mix with a can of fruit cocktail mixed in and shredded coconut sprinkled on top. It’s my absolute favorite cake!

  93. If I had to only eat one dessert for the rest of my life, it’ll be flan. When my grandma was still alive, she used to make the best flan ever! We all have her recipe but no one could make it as good as hers.

  108. I didn’t even need to think about this one….Creme Brulee….without a doubt or question!!

  109. It’s a lot to narrow down everything, but I’d have to go with a s’more. Not an ordinary S’more, but one with peanut butter holding the marshmallow in place. That way, I get the sweet AND the salty. Thank God I don’t have to REALLY do this! It would be awful!

  110. If I could, I would eat creme brulee every day! I’ll try any flavor, but a clasic creme brulee with fresh berries can’t be beat!

  115. Red velvet cupcake with cream cheese frosting.

  116. My mother’s chocolate ice box cake—-ladyfingers lined loaf pan filled with a smooth chocolate mixture similar to French silk pie–only better, more dense and richer–really. And of course whipped cream on top. I might put a smidgeon of Bailey in it at this stage of my life. *;-)

  117. I would eat my mom’s banana oatmeal chocolate chip cookies forever!!

  118. Chocolate chip cookies. I prefer the chunky chocolate kind with nuts if possible, but I don’t turn down any of the other chocolate chip cookies. Looove these! Especially with a cold glass of milk. Yum!

  125. The one dessert (if there was only one) would be mousse – chocolate with fresh Florida strawberries and lots and lots of fresh whipped cream. This is what I always have for my birthday and any other time I can. Takes me back to when I was a little. That was a wonderful weekend you had at Disney and great pics!

  126. Rainbow cookies, the kind you can find at any metro NY area bakery. Absolutely! I miss them terribly on the other side of the country. Black and whites are a close second.

  127. If I could only have one dessert for the rest of my life, it would have to be Rhubarb Crisp.
The one I make has a yummy custardy cream filling! mmmm mmmmmm!
I could share it with you if you like!
    Awesome mixer color!
    Love your pictures! TFS!

  128. I would have to choose rocky road ice cream. I don’t think I could live without ice cream!

If I could only eat one dessert for the rest of my life, first of all, I would cry. And second of all, it would probably have to be white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake, like the one from The Cheesecake Factory. Yes, please.

  130. French macarons with a casis flavored filling is my absolute favorite

  131. Only one dessert? Sounds too awful to think about! But if I had to choose it would be my family’s chocolate cake. It is so good!!! Very light and not too rich. Yeah, Im going to have to make one today! Lol Drooling…

  132. I think if I could only eat one type of sweet/dessert for the rest of my life I’d have to choose my Aunt’s “Cindy Cookies” I have no idea what type of cookies they are exactly, but they are CRACK. They’re almost a really cake like sugar cookie, with an amazing frosting. She only makes them once a year at Christmas.

  133. My absolute favorite dessert is tiramisu cheesecake. I made it for the first time last year for my friends birthday and of course made an extra one for me. It is wonderful.

  134. NY pineapple cheesecake made by my NY Mother…..

  135. Fruit Pizza, hands down! If I were stuck only eating one dessert this would be it. I don’t think I would get tired of this quite as quickly as I would some other richer desserts.

  136. Strawberry wedding cake. Not just any , the good stuff. Cake so soft its almost angel food cake. Frosting so light its almost whipped cream. And to pull it all together…Fresh Strawberries hidding ever so carefully throughout the layers of yummy goodness. Dang, now I have to go find some for lunch today…mmmmmm!!!

  137. Marionberry pie a la mode. YUMMERS!

  138. Only one mixer and only one dessert…wow what a challenge! I would have to pick brownies!! Yummy…fudge brownies with chocolate chips running through it.

  139. I think it would have to be a devils food cake with a whipped cream – powdered sugar frosting and then topped with pie cherries – like a black forest cake but not as rich or calorie laden. I could eat this every day and never get tired of it! Beautiful pics of Disney World trip by the way!!!

  140. Apple pie or apple crisp would be my first choice. Second best would be chocolate chip cookies. :) btw what beautiful ladies and pictures. I’m still sad I couldn’t go but hoping to meet everyone next year!

  141. If I had to eat just one dessert for the rest of my life I would choose a simple plain white cheesecake with fresh strawberries on top and a splash of chocolate sauce. So yummy! I bake all the cakes and goodies for all the family events and could really use a new mixer! And blue just happens to be my favorite color! Good luck everyone!

  142. It would be tres leches!!

  143. Dark chocolate gelato. Nothing says “I love you” like cold, dark chocolate.

  144. Tiramisu would be my dessert of choice. Yum!

  146. I would have to say a good old-fashioned carrot cake with extra cream cheese frosting!

  147. This is tough. I think it would have to be an English classic: my mum’s apple crumble with a generous dollop of custard.

  148. I think I have to go with Chocolate Texas Sheet Cake. It’s been our go-to family birthday cake for years! It’s not only delicious, but has lots of memories wrapped up in it too! It is best eaten warm out of the oven and topped with Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream!

  149. I would eat these cinnamon toast crunch cupcakes I make every day if I could. They are delicious and taste just like cinnamon toast crunch. Yum!

  151. Well if I had to pick one it would be praline ice cream ummm sooo yuuummmyyy

  152. I LOVE Little Debbie Oatmeal Cream Pies….so much that I inspired a client of mine to make a cake out of them! A local bar and grill that does gourmet catering and baking had heard me talk about my love for oatmeal cream pies forever and decided to experiment with making a cake 3 tier cake! It was a TOTAL SUCCESS!!! So I would gladly eat Little Debbie Oatmeal Cream Pie Layer Cake!!!

  153. This is probably the most difficult question I’ve had to answer for a loooooong time! But I’m going to go with the first thing that popped into my mind (probably because I’m craving it big time at the moment, sitting writing my master’s thesis at the library..) : BAKLAVA… sweet, sticky, nutty, crunchy, perfect!:)

  165. Ok so nestle toll house chocolate chip cookies, homemade of course. They are so yummy and versatile.  Don’t think I’m crazy, just been craving them a little (ok A LOT) since we’ve moved to Singapore (from FL) 2 years ago. I’ve baked them over a hundred times since I’ve learned to turn on an oven but something about the ingredients/humidity/appliances combination here doesn’t quite fit the bill and they never seem to turn out right!! We are moving back in July and can you guess what will be baked first when we return… YEP, chocolate chip cookies, served with a heaping spoonful of Dreyer’s vanilla bean ice cream topped with some Sander’s hot fudge topping ( available in MI, where I was born & raised) Oh man, I can’t wait to get back to the US…

  170. If I had to eat one dessert for the rest of my life it would definitely have to a Belgium waffle ice cream sandwich (or open face, either way =] ) Mmmm ..nice hot and fresh Belgium waffle right off the griddle with a simple scoop (or two..three) scoops of vanilla bean ice cream. I would be totally happy with that but it wouldn’t hurt to put a little peanut butter on the waffle and drizzle a little caramel on top. Perfect

  171. Toasted Coconut Cupcakes….I live for them :-)

  172. Oooh. That’s a hard one but I would say a warm, gooey Magic Cookie Bar with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and chocolate fudge topping!

  173. plain NY cheesecake. no cherries, no chocolate just graham cracker crust and a hint of lemon zest.

  174. If I had to have only one sweetie forever…mmm, perhaps Ranger Cookies. No, pie definitely my homemade apple pie. Well, my mom used to make the best persimmon cookies known to man….wait a minute, does this mean I have to give up chocolate!?! Clearly I can’t choose.

  175. i would eat my mother’s baked pineapple empanadas sprinkled with cinnamon sugar fresh out of the oven!!

  176. Hmmm hardest decision ever!

I would choose Chocolate Chip cupcakes topped with a little chocolate frosting and a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. YUM :)

  177. Cucumber and chili paletas from Las Paletas in Nashville!

  178. My would be the Italian dessert Tartufo. Its shaped like a dome and on the inside 1st layer devils food cake 2nd layer white chocolate ganache” 3rd layer cake 4th layer choc. ganache then cake again, but it gets better, then the whole cake is covered in a choc. ganache’ shell!

  179. It would be tres leches!!!

  181. I spend so much time dreaming up crazy flavored sweets for my kids or friends…but I’m so simple. Give me a chocolate cake with chocolate icing and I’m a happy girl.

  183. If I could only eat one dessert for the rest of my life it would be my Mom’s dark chocolate cupcake with peanut butter icing. There is no better combination!

  184. It would be a warm brownie with vanilla ice cream (in my case an egg free wheat free dairy free brownie with vanilla Rice Dream Dessert) So Good!

  195. It would have to be tres leches!!

  196. I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to have a new Kitchenaid mixer! That aside, my absolute favorite dessert that I’m sure that I could eat every day for the rest of my life is called Russian Cream. It’s a delicious custardy type dessert made from sour cream, knox unflavored gelatin, heavy cream, sugar, and vanilla. Heat all of that in a sauce pan, and then let it cool to the gelatin consistency. Layer it with raspberries in their own syrup. It’s like heaven! I’ve loved it ever since I was a little kid. I don’t make it too often, though, because I’ll eat all of it!!

P.S. My uncle serves it at his restaurant, The Blue Lion, in Jackson Hole, WY.

  197. I could eat chocolate (dark) covered strawberries ALL DAY!!

  198. For me, it would have to be oatmeal raisin cookies. The exact kind that were stolen by bears when I went camping in Yosemite years ago!
