Food Blog Forum and Something Brand New and Bright Blue

This post doesn’t involve baking from this weekend
but there’s something pretty sweet at the end I think you’ll like.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Okay, so I’ve been out of town for the last two weekends. First, Chicago for the Home and Housewares Show

and last weekend somewhere a little bit warmer.

I was in sunny Florida for a weekend conference full of learning and sharing with friends – and a bunch of food and fun thrown in.

IMG_9522

Food Blog Forum Orlando. Put on by Jaden Hair of Steamy Kitchen, Todd & Diane of White On Rice Couple, Julie Deily of The Little Kitchen and Dawn Viola.

And sponsored by Disney, Kitchenaid, OXO, Land O’ Lakes, Whole Foods, Le Creuset and more.

The meeting was held at Walt Disney World and it was amazing. So well done. Julie from the Little Kitchen knows how to put together a great event. I was there with a bunch of great speakers. (See the whole group here) Alison Lewis (Ingredients, Inc.) and I spoke at round table discussions on writing a cookbook. I really enjoyed the round table set up because we were able to talk one-on-one with people and that’s much more my speed. I don’t think I’d be very good at getting up in front of a big room of people and talking. There would be a lot of umms and likes and pauses I’m sure.

photo19

On the evening before the meeting, we had a beautiful outdoor reception at the Grand Floridian. My sweet friend Jenny (Picky Palate) and I met some great girls. Nikki (Pennies on a Platter), Krissy (Krissy’s Creations), Julie (Table for Two) and Rachel (The Fabulous Foodie). Hi girls. Thanks for making Magic Kingdom such a blast!

Untitled-1

We hit up a few rides and went on a search for Dole Whip and churros before the park closed. It was my first time trying either. So yum! Thanks for sharing these phone pics girls.

We spent all day Saturday at Epcot where the meeting was held.

Untitled-2

It was definitely a special place to have a meeting. Not only were there great speakers, yummy treats, amazing prizes, like stand mixers and refrigerators, Le creusets and more but when we were done, we had a huge world to explore.

IMG_9445

If only I could have seen it all. I’ve never been to Epcot. I had no idea how ginormous this park was. Actually, I still don’t know how big it is. But that’s okay because what I did see was perfect.

photo12

We had an incredible lunch extravaganza prepared by Disney chefs from the parks and hotels.

Untitled-3

I focused on dessert of course.

Untitled-4

Lunch gave us all more time to talk.

Here’s Lauren’s Latest, Julie, Krissy and Jenny.

And I finally finally met Elise from Simply Recipes. Yay! Hope we can chat more next time.

Alison and Jenny. Love you guys.

And sweet, sweet Julie. Again, great job on pulling this event together.

IMG_9729

On Sunday we had a brunch hosted by Whole Foods. Incredible food means the cameras come out.

IMG_9649

See what I mean. That’s Dawn in the back, Julie and Jenny, and then Lindsey (Love and Olive Oil) in the front.

This might be one of my favorite pics from the weekend. It just makes me giggle at how we all do the same thing as bloggers. It’s almost uncontrollable when you have a camera in your hand.

IMG_9663

But in our defense, the flowers were pretty cheery.

IMG_9705

I enjoyed this weekend so much.

Hi Emily (Sage Recipes) and Kiran (Kirantarun)! It was nice meeting you both. Hope to see you again. And you too Droolius and Simply Southern Baking.

Thanks for a weekend of great memories with old friends and new!

So now the fun part.

I’m having an amazing giveaway today.

If you read last week’s post, you may remember some of the new products I talked about from the Home and Housewares Show in Chicago. One of them was this Kitchenaid mixer in Crystal Blue, the brand new color from the Catalina Collection that I fell in love with.

catalina-collection

Well, I met some of the folks from Kitchenaid in Chicago for the first time and and then coincidentally, we met again in Orlando the very next weekend as they were one of the sponsors of Food Blog Forum. It was a surprise to see them two weeks in a row. We talked about how much I loved the brand new color they debuted in Chicago and we thought it would be a fun giveaway here on bakerella.com.

KitchenAidCrystlblueWant to brighten up your kitchen and be one of the first people to own a mixer in this brand new, bright blue color courtesy of Kitchenaid? I know I would. It’s such a happy color. And much more vibrant in person.

Enter for a chance to win this Crystal Blue 5-quart Artisan Stand Mixer from Kitchenaid!

  • Just leave a comment on this post here on the website and answer the following question.
  • If you could only eat one kind of sweet/dessert for the rest of your life, what would choose? And not just cookie or cupcake, etc. – but what kind if you can? I’m very curious.
  • Deadline to enter is Wednesday, March 28th at 5 pm ET.

SORRY, TIME’S UP! Winner Announced Below.

  • One winner will be chosen at random and announced sometime Wednesday evening.

GOOD LUCK GUYS!

oh and FYI – the Crystal Blue color should be available for purchase starting sometime in April.

Reading all of your sweet choices are driving me crazy. I have cravings now for way too many treats.

I don’t know if I could pick just one either. But warm brownies and ice cream are always a safe bet for me. No nuts. No whipped cream. No syrup. Plain and simple chocolate and vanilla. Warm and cold deliciousness.

Okay, ready for the winner?

It’s comment #6224 – Leann

Congratulations and enjoy your bright blue baby. Hope you make lots of amazing desserts and smile every time you look at it.

  24. I’ve dreamed of having a Kitchen Aid stand mixer ever since I started baking. This question is a little difficult to respond to; however, I think I have my answer. If I could only have one type of dessert for the rest of my life, it would have to be Baklava. The reason is because it is a fun, simple, user-friendly dessert. It can be soft and gooey with honey and cinnamon. It can be nutty and crispy with pistachios or other nuts. It can even be tangy when made with lemons. My favorite way is always with honey, cinnamon, and pistachios.

Your blog and book has inspired me in so many ways. I’m no longer afraid of baking and cooking. Thank you so much!

  59. OH, how I LOVE the new blue! I have never had a Kitchen Aid, and am drooling at the new color! As for the dessert of choice, it would have to be cheesecake! I make cheesecakes and my new favorite flavor is blueberry streusel. I could eat it everyday! (and have, for the last week!) :)

  60. It would definitely be bread pudding…. M’m’mmm it’s just soo delicious! The warmth of it when it lands in my mouth, is just decadent.

  177. If I could only eat one sweet/dessert for the rest of my life I would have to choose just plain old birthday cake. You know…white cake with a yummy buttercream. I know it sounds boring but it is just something that I don’t get bored with. Especially if it is a nice soft white cake with a very yummy buttercream (real butter please…no shortening).

  178. I’ve narrowed it down to carrot cake with cream cheese frosting (and lots of it!!)
This blue color is beautiful!! So very Spring!!!!

  179. Cheesecake. Or Oreos. Or Oreo Cheesecake..Swoon…

  180. only one dessert??? that’s crazy-talk, but if i had to choose….there’s a little restaurant in Leitchfield KY that makes the best Pecan Cobbler, that would be my one dessert!

  181. the dessert i would choose would be cheesecake. you can make it so many different ways. you can add flavors of candy to it. make mini cheesecakes, cheesecake balls, layer with cake, make flavored cheesecake to taste like cake, cookies or candies. make with a cookie crust, or no crust. top with fresh fruit, and the best part is the creamy taste of any flavor.

  182. CHEESECAKE BITES!!!! Plain new york style ones because I could essentially dress them up with whatever I felt like at the moment. So hrd to pick a flavour because dipping them in caramel or chocolate would be delicious, as would having them with fresh bites of raspberries, blackberries or strawberries….YUM! And the Kitchenaid mixer would make it that much easier to whip them up! That colour is so fresh! Now if I can EVER afford to buy one (if I don’t win here), that will make the choice of colour that much harder as it’s a new contender! Thanks for the great blog! Always gives me great ideas!

  183. Something caramel and chocolate related. Perfect combo!

  184. Chocolate Eruption Cake – chocolate mousse, cheesecake chunks, cookie crust, caramel sauce, almond slices…… oh yum!

    Thanks for the great giveaway!

  185. If I had to pick just one dessert, it would probably be cheesecake! Specifically, plain cheesecake with cherry or strawberry topping :D

  186. Creme brulee! I just can’t get enough of it!

  187. Jeni’s Salty Caramel Ice Cream!!! (luckily I got her cookbook and can make my own!!)

  188. I think if I only had to eat 1 dessert it would be a Cannoli. I love that it is sweet and cheesy and you can have a bit of chocolate too and pistacho. It is just perfection for me.

  189. IF i could only eat ONE kind of dessert forever I would choose chocolate ganache macarons!! They were perfect, melt in your mouth and soooo amazing

  190. would have to be tiramisu!! (Along with a good cup of coffee) Blue is my favorite color… would be a great, just turned 40, present! :)

  191. Given that there are over 2284 comments I’m still going to try my luck at winning one of these. I’ve been wanting one for so long..poor college student here :)

If I could eat anything? It would be lemon bars!!

  192. This is so hard! I think I would have to choose raspberries and strawberries with whip cream and a drizzle of chocolate!

  193. Chocolate marshmellow ice cream from Schwan’s!! :)

  194. Honestly, I’d probably be eating chocolate chip cookie dough until my face fell off. Not just any cookie dough, but my Uncle Jeff’s recipe. Its got french vanilla pudding in it and just… agh. I freakin love it. :)

  195. Oh man. Tough choice. If I could only have one dessert (and not gain any weight from it, ha!) I think I would choose millionaire shortbread, especially if it had macadamia nuts in it. There’s just something about that combination of buttery dough, nuts, and chocolate.

  196. Chocolate and Caramel Cheese Cake! Its amazing! I will eat a whole cake with a spoon, and not have that “I regret doing that feeling” :)

  197. If I could only eat one kind of dessert for the rest of my life it would have to be creme brulee.

  198. I love all kinds of sweets, which makes this hugely difficult. But I think my favorites right now are peanut butter cups. My favorite chocolate shop in Boston has these giant peanut butter cups with marshmallow, salted dark chocolate or caramel in addition to the more traditional peanut butter cup, so I would pick the salted dark chocolate peanut butter cup. So delicious!

  199. If I could have just one dessert for the rest of my life, it would definately have to be chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream – nothing fancy, just moist and yummy cake with creamy vanilla ice cream. PERFECTION! :)

  200. I would want pretzels covered in chocolate and peanut butter. Perfect combo of sweet and salty!
