Food Blog Forum and Something Brand New and Bright Blue

This post doesn’t involve baking from this weekend
but there’s something pretty sweet at the end I think you’ll like.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Okay, so I’ve been out of town for the last two weekends. First, Chicago for the Home and Housewares Show

and last weekend somewhere a little bit warmer.

I was in sunny Florida for a weekend conference full of learning and sharing with friends – and a bunch of food and fun thrown in.

IMG_9522

Food Blog Forum Orlando. Put on by Jaden Hair of Steamy Kitchen, Todd & Diane of White On Rice Couple, Julie Deily of The Little Kitchen and Dawn Viola.

And sponsored by Disney, Kitchenaid, OXO, Land O’ Lakes, Whole Foods, Le Creuset and more.

The meeting was held at Walt Disney World and it was amazing. So well done. Julie from the Little Kitchen knows how to put together a great event. I was there with a bunch of great speakers. (See the whole group here) Alison Lewis (Ingredients, Inc.) and I spoke at round table discussions on writing a cookbook. I really enjoyed the round table set up because we were able to talk one-on-one with people and that’s much more my speed. I don’t think I’d be very good at getting up in front of a big room of people and talking. There would be a lot of umms and likes and pauses I’m sure.

On the evening before the meeting, we had a beautiful outdoor reception at the Grand Floridian. My sweet friend Jenny (Picky Palate) and I met some great girls. Nikki (Pennies on a Platter), Krissy (Krissy’s Creations), Julie (Table for Two) and Rachel (The Fabulous Foodie). Hi girls. Thanks for making Magic Kingdom such a blast!

Untitled-1

We hit up a few rides and went on a search for Dole Whip and churros before the park closed. It was my first time trying either. So yum! Thanks for sharing these phone pics girls.

We spent all day Saturday at Epcot where the meeting was held.

Untitled-2

It was definitely a special place to have a meeting. Not only were there great speakers, yummy treats, amazing prizes, like stand mixers and refrigerators, Le creusets and more but when we were done, we had a huge world to explore.

IMG_9445

If only I could have seen it all. I’ve never been to Epcot. I had no idea how ginormous this park was. Actually, I still don’t know how big it is. But that’s okay because what I did see was perfect.

photo12

We had an incredible lunch extravaganza prepared by Disney chefs from the parks and hotels.

Untitled-3

I focused on dessert of course.

Untitled-4

Lunch gave us all more time to talk.

Here’s Lauren’s Latest, Julie, Krissy and Jenny.

And I finally finally met Elise from Simply Recipes. Yay! Hope we can chat more next time.

Alison and Jenny. Love you guys.

And sweet, sweet Julie. Again, great job on pulling this event together.

IMG_9729

On Sunday we had a brunch hosted by Whole Foods. Incredible food means the cameras come out.

IMG_9649

See what I mean. That’s Dawn in the back, Julie and Jenny, and then Lindsey (Love and Olive Oil) in the front.

This might be one of my favorite pics from the weekend. It just makes me giggle at how we all do the same thing as bloggers. It’s almost uncontrollable when you have a camera in your hand.

IMG_9663

But in our defense, the flowers were pretty cheery.

IMG_9705

I enjoyed this weekend so much.

Hi Emily (Sage Recipes) and Kiran (Kirantarun)! It was nice meeting you both. Hope to see you again. And you too Droolius and Simply Southern Baking.

Thanks for a weekend of great memories with old friends and new!

So now the fun part.

I’m having an amazing giveaway today.

If you read last week’s post, you may remember some of the new products I talked about from the Home and Housewares Show in Chicago. One of them was this Kitchenaid mixer in Crystal Blue, the brand new color from the Catalina Collection that I fell in love with.

catalina-collection

Well, I met some of the folks from Kitchenaid in Chicago for the first time and and then coincidentally, we met again in Orlando the very next weekend as they were one of the sponsors of Food Blog Forum. It was a surprise to see them two weeks in a row. We talked about how much I loved the brand new color they debuted in Chicago and we thought it would be a fun giveaway here on bakerella.com.

KitchenAidCrystlblueWant to brighten up your kitchen and be one of the first people to own a mixer in this brand new, bright blue color courtesy of Kitchenaid? I know I would. It’s such a happy color. And much more vibrant in person.

Enter for a chance to win this Crystal Blue 5-quart Artisan Stand Mixer from Kitchenaid!

  • Just leave a comment on this post here on the website and answer the following question.
  • If you could only eat one kind of sweet/dessert for the rest of your life, what would choose? And not just cookie or cupcake, etc. – but what kind if you can? I’m very curious.
  • Deadline to enter is Wednesday, March 28th at 5 pm ET.

SORRY, TIME’S UP! Winner Announced Below.

  • One winner will be chosen at random and announced sometime Wednesday evening.

GOOD LUCK GUYS!

oh and FYI – the Crystal Blue color should be available for purchase starting sometime in April.

Reading all of your sweet choices are driving me crazy. I have cravings now for way too many treats.

I don’t know if I could pick just one either. But warm brownies and ice cream are always a safe bet for me. No nuts. No whipped cream. No syrup. Plain and simple chocolate and vanilla. Warm and cold deliciousness.

Okay, ready for the winner?

It’s comment #6224 – Leann

Congratulations and enjoy your bright blue baby. Hope you make lots of amazing desserts and smile every time you look at it.

  31. Italian creme cupcake with Nutella buttercream frosting! YUM! Thanks for the giveaway!

  32. chocolate cobbler with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, yum!

  33. If I could only eat one sweet/dessert for the rest of my life it would definitely have to be chewy caramel brownies. Could even live off them if I had too!!

  34. Just one dessert? So difficult to choose! But chocolate cake with raspberry filling and chocolate buttercream would be my pick. That is perfection and delicious in one :]

  35. Hagen Dazs briefly had a Bananas Foster flavor. I could live my entirely life eating a pint of that daily. I guess it’s a good thing I can’t find it anywhere.

  36. Oatmeal pie with homemade whipped cream!

  37. One dessert for the rest of my life would be something like a chocolate chip dessert–there is one that I have had a few times and it comes in a cup like sort of thing and you warm it in the microwave and inside there is melted chocolate that pours out of it when you eat it. So delicious. I would eat one everyday if I could. lol

  38. I hope I never have to actually make this decision!! I have too many favorites but I would probably go with mint crinkle cookies.

  39. An ewwy gooey chocolate chip cookie :)

  40. Hmmm…it would be some flavor of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream for sure. Do I have to choose just one?! Coffee Heath Bar Crunch maybe? Or maybe Strawberry Cheesecake?

  41. That’s a tough one! I think if I had to choose just one dessert for the rest of my life it would have to be something basic, like a good classic chewy chocolate chip cookie. This mixer is beautiful!! Thanks for the chance!!

  42. Hmm… I think I would pick chocolate chip cookies, a little underbaked with a little bit of bite. Too hard to choose just one thing – but I know I would miss cookies if I picked anything else :)

Then again ANYTHING grandma makes is pretty spectacular!

  50. OMG! Is that gorgeous or what??? If I could only have one dessert for the rest of my life it would be chocolate chunk cookies (with walnuts). Portable and I could get my chocolate fix, too. And there’s something about a baked walnut that just tastes so. So,,,,,,,,,,, GOOD!!!

  51. That’s easy…dark chocolate layer cake with ganache, hazlenuts and homemade vanilla bean icecream served with icy cold pink champagne..every day for the rest of my life.

  52. If I could only eat one dessert for the rest of my life (oh the humanity!) it would definitely be Cornflake Candy. It’s simple and delicious and I could probably eat the entire pan by myself if my husband didn’t always butt in! :)

  53. It would definitely be cheesecake. But I love so many different flavours, I think I’d have a different one each day. Some of my absolute favorites are passionfruit, lychee, lime, pina colada, apple cinnamon. Don’t like chocolate cheesecake, the chocolate overpowers the cheesecake flavour.

  54. If I’d have to eat one dessert I’d love to say something I make, but I think I’d have to say Ben and Jerry’s Cherry Garcia.

  55. mm touch choice…I think i’d have to go with neapolitan cupcakes. layered chocolate vanilla and strawberry with different frostings.

  57. Creme brûlée! :) I could eat it every day! Great giveaway!

  58. Homemade Crazy Cake (chocolate) and homemade vanilla ice cream…classic, and I never get tired of it!

  59. I would choose creme de menthe cake or cupcakes for sure, hands down, no questions… Here is the recipe in case you want to try it too… It’s awesome, I promise!

    http://mommyapolis.com/2012/03/14/mmmm-mint-cake/

  60. Watermelon sorbet – fresh – with mint

  61. If I get only one it would be chocolate cake with a chocolate buttercream

  62. One is so hard to choose.. but I think i would choose Lemon Bars. I love chocolate and strawberry and caramel, but Lemon is so refreshing no matter when you eat it!

  63. Lemon bars!!

  64. Hmm… I think it would have to be my mom’s mocha brownies. The brownie is fudgy and rich and the icing is so thick and delicious.

  65. Lemon bars. I’ve only ever made them myself once, but they’re just so good…sour and sweet!

  66. My Mom has been making me Banana Cream Pie for my birthday since I was a kid. She adds a ton of banana slices and meringue topping. I used to pick the peaks of the meringue off of the pie when she left the it on the kitchen counter to cool. I can’t resist!!!

  67. I’ve always wanted a Kitchen Aid stand -up mixer. Or just a stand-up mixer at all. I would choose to eat my version of dump cake called Cherry Stuff. Just yellow cake mix, butter, brown sugar, and cherry filing. I love, love, love that stuff and could never tire of it.

  68. If I could only have one dessert it would be hazelnut gelato. . . could I have it on some pound cake?.

  79. This is a hard one – I love sweets!!! I’d have to go with a really smooth and creamy chocolate mousse. Maybe some whipped cream and chocolate shavings on top…

LOVE your site!! My 12-year-old daughter and I bake a cake together each week from scratch and found your blog recently. Just started making some from some of your old posts. Love ’em!

  80. Only one?! I’d have to go with simple chocolate chip cookies. Sometimes I get so caught up with seasonal sweets and fancy desserts that I forget how GOOD a chocolate chip cookie can be!!

  81. Ben and jerrys half baked ice cream! :)

  82. It’s a tossup, but I think Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream. So creamy and refreshing. :) Not baked, so not made with the pretty blue Kitchenaid, but I’m being honest. Thanks for the chance to win!

  86. Without a doubt, Lemon Cookies! I loooove lemon cookies.

  87. I would chose Flan! When I was in middle school my dad took me with him to Buenos Aires for a Rotary International convention and I fell in love with flan! We would wander out every night and find some little cafe/bar and have flan with a giant scoop of dulce de leche on it. Heavenly!

  88. If I could only have one dessert for the rest of my life it would be Tiramisu. YUMMY!

The color of this KitchenAid is MY FAVORITE color of all time.

Thank you Bakerella! You are amazing!

  89. It would need to be something with chocolate AND caramel AND peanut butter, so either a brownie that incorporates all three, or Purity’s Cocoa Loco ice cream, which is chocolate ice cream with a caramel ribbon, PB chunks, and pretzels. Oh, man!

  90. What a fun giveaway and very practical. I would love to retire my hand held mixer with a beautiful blue KitchenAid Stand Mixer. As for dessert/sweet I would have to go with Chocolate Chip cookies because there are a million varieties so you’d never run out of recipes to try.

  91. If I had to choose just 1, I’d have to say creme brulee! Sweet, creamy, delicious. Even if I have no teeth when I’m old I can still indulge on this wonderful dessert.

  92. I would definitely pick warm chocolate chip cookies – they are the one dessert that I can’t ever resist!

  93. Carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. Mostly for the frosting.

  94. Oatmeal Raisin Cookies (made with a hint of cinammon). They’re soft and chewy, filling, and quasi-good for you.

  95. brownies with chocolate chips, and frosting. yum!

  96. nutella cookies, for sure. i love the consistency and flavor of the recipe i have: perfectly sweet, kind of crunchy. awesome with coffee or milk or just by themselves.

  98. peanut butter cup cheesecake with an oreo crust and nuts and chocolate drizzled all over it with a giant blob of whipped cream

  99. cheesecake! It has soothing enzymes ;)

  100. As difficult as it is to choose, my dessert would probably be cake batter frozen yogurt with some chocolatey goodness on top! I can’t seem to get enough! Boy, I would miss my brownies and cake though!

  101. I was trying to think of something fancy. But the one dessert I absolutely can not live without is brownies. Especially with chocolate chips stirred into them so you get these gooey chocolate-y bursts.

  102. it would have to be creme brulee

  103. Hmmm……I would have to say “Bread Pudding with Lemon Sauce” would be a winner for me. It is a great comfort food! :)

  104. Tough choice, brownie

  105. Peach cobbler….I’m from Colorado, so it’s not something you can always find here and when you do, 9 times out of 10 it’s not very good. However, that one time it’s amazing and delicious. It reminds me of being home, mind you my mom has never made cobbler of any kind before…but it just give me this warm homey feeling.

  106. I would eat “Big Cookie,” which is my great-aunt’s chocolate chip and M&M cookie. You bake the whole recipe in a cast iron skillet and it is wonderful!

  107. That would be so hard, since I am a dessert girl, but I’d probably say sweet apple pie. Can’t beat it!!

  108. There’s a chocolate cake I make for special occasions – three layers of the most moist chocolate cake, peanut butter cream cheese frosting throughout and then topped with a chocolate peanut butter ganache. It’s insanely rich and to die for – I don’t know that I could face a life without it…

  110. I’d definitely have to go with my mom’s two layer chocolate and flan cake…absolutely heavenly!!!!!!!!!

  111. Chocolate molten cake….yum.

  112. Raspberry creme brûlée!

  113. Wow, that’s very restrictive to only be allowed one dessert!

There are tons of things that are super sweet and lots that are “special” but would lose that special-ness if you had them all the time. So I guess I’d have to go with monster cookies (they have chocolate chips, nuts, M&Ms). They’re sweet but not too sweet, they would be the perfect complement to any meal or just as a snack. Yup. Monster cookies.

  114. Dulce de Leche ice cream. Smooth and sweet.

  115. Undoubtedly lilikoi creme brulee. It reminds me of the 7 years I was stationed in Hawaii. That lemony tartness and honey sweetness of the lilikoi (passionfruit) are perfect with the unctuous creaminess of the brulee custard – heaven! That mixer is gorgeous. If there’s food porn, is there also kitchen appliance porn? Because that beauty qualifies!

  116. I love love love brownies! With huge chocolatey chips, all melty in your mouth because they are warm out of the oven! And of course, topped with Blue Bell vanilla icecream!!!

  117. It’s gotta be Banoffee for me. Never gets old! :)

  118. I LOVE pecan pie. My birthday is on Pi day, so pie has always been a favorite. Pecan pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream is the best dessert ever.

  119. Too hard to choice! It would be between cream puffs or cannoli!

  120. Creme Brulee. All day everyday.

  121. Looks like you had so much fun!! I would love the mixer, I have been dreaming of one ever since we switched to no processed food. Its harder to kneed bread dough than I thought!

  122. Classic banana pudding with vanilla wafers. Sooo goooood. I could go eat some right now! ;)

  123. most definitely, Creme Brulee, fresh whipped cream and berries! DELICIOUS!

  124. Very tough question … but it would have to be my Snickerdoodle Cookies … I had never even tried one before I had my now almost 4 year old son … but that is my nickname for him and has been since he was very little … so I decided I had to at least make some and see what they tasted like … I researched multiple recipe’s and came up with my own unique recipe … everyone including me loves them … and the recipe works well with cookie cutters too … so for my son’s 3rd birthday … Handy Manny tools … Felipe and Turner with cookie decorator icing … huge hit!!!

  125. Cheesecake…just the plain yummy kind…no topping @ all :)

  126. It would be a toss up between a mint chocolate chip icecream sandwich or cakemix cookie – my new favorite obsession.

  127. How awesome is this give-away?! Thank you so much. I would love to own a kitchenaid, but as I’m still a student…Well, you probably get what I mean.

If I could only ever eat one kind of dessert for the rest of my life, I would go for a fresh trio: lemon, peach and pear sorbet ice cream. That is my go to dessert on winter, summer, up and down days.

  128. OMG I love the color blue and this shade is beautiful. Very bright and tropical:) would look perfext in my kitchen!l
My one dessert I think I can live with is hmm that’s soooo hard I love custardy and creamy deserts but i would say coconut custard pie.

  129. It would be macadamia white chocolate toffee, from rocky mountain chocolate factory. Sooo good:) it be so cool if I actually won:)

  130. If I could only have one dessert for the rest of my life it would be Girl Scout Samoa cookies. They have it all going on! Chocolate, cocont, caramel and a cookie

  131. If I could only eat one dessert for the rest of my life…I would have to say Banana Pudding. First I love bananas…that is the only fruit I can say I truly love…I am trying to expand my palate.:) Second, Banana Pudding makes me think of my Dad. He was the great cook in the family. He could make anything without a recipe! People watched him cook so they could write a recipe! He cooked for family and friends. He cooked because he loved to cook! My father has Alzheimer’s, doesn’t know me, doesn’t know much…but still loves to eat. I really wish I had captured a few more of his recipes while I had the chance.

  132. Cinnamon Rolls. They are good anytime!

  133. I think if I could only have one dessert for the rest of my life, it would have to be ice cream, and more specifically, Ben and Jerry’s Dublin Mudslide. It’s delicious!!

  134. Hey ! It would have to be a classic chocolate chip cookie, there’s nothing more homely than the smell of fresh cookies. Mmm cookies and milk, classic combination.

  135. oh you’re KIDDING!! my poor old big red has been put through the limits in the three years i’ve had her. no fault of kitchen aid…but it’s time for her to have a rest! we have JUST been talking about replacing her so this is perfect.
Dessert for the rest of my life….simple, homemade frosted Christmas cookies!!! specifically – Wegmans Gingerbread frosted with homemade butter cream! the gingerbread cookie absorbs just enough moisture from the frosting and that butter cream forms a nice little crust on top…puuuuuuuuure heaven!!! but that HAVE to be the gingerbread cookies from WEGMANS bakery – no homemade gingerbread will do!

  136. I’m going with “Tarte au Sucre” from the St. Donat bakery in Quebec. This is the best sugar pie and it’s not too sweet, really.

  137. Ohhh!! I love dessert!!! All desserts.
If I HAD to choose, it would be cherry cheesecake….I love cheesecake. Probably a billion calories per slice, but in my imaginary world, I eat it every day and lose weight….. :)

  138. Chocolate ice cream

  139. Brownies! The Ghiradelli box mix has been the greatest find ever.

  140. Cobbler…any kind!

  141. I love all desserts, really and truly, but cookies tend to be my go to treat! Specifically chocolate chip, peanut butter, sugar, or Dutch (is that what it is called when it’s a chocolate cookie with white chocOlate chips?). I would be so thrilled to win this!!! I am in love with the color. :)

  142. one sweet or desert for the rest of my life would have to be Tiramisu!!!! YUM!!!!

  143. Freshly baked brownies, still warm from the oven.

  144. Well there are over 2000 comments but I”m still going to try my hand at winning! I’ve been wanting one of these puppies for so long..poor collage student here :)

If I could eat anything for the rest of my life? Lemon bars!

    http://www.lyzhang.com

  145. Hands down Chocolate & peanut butter. Plain, ice cream, brownies, cake, cupcakes. As long as my two favorite ingredients are included. Blue color is adorable….

  146. Creme brulee. My absolute favorite dessert.

  147. If I could eat one dessert for the rest of my life I would eat french toast cupcakes by Red Velvet Stefani!

  148. Caramel Apple Struesel Cheesecake. It is so rich but I just adore it.

  149. If I could eat any dessert for the rest of my life it would be a pecan chocolate chip cookie topped with homemade mint chocolate chip ice cream! Yummy!

  150. I LOVE the chocolate oatmeal candies my mom makes. She passed the recipe on to me and I am addicted! That would be my favorite dessert by far. It’s just sugar, milk, oatmeal, cocoa, butter and oats. Mmmmm!! : )

  151. My roommate just introduced me to mango and coconut sticky rice. IT IS AMAZING! I would eat it every day, all day if I could.

  152. Gingerbread cookies… I don’t care if it is Christmas or not, they are delish!

  153. I would be torn between peanut butter coookies and white chocolate macademia nut cookies. I think I would go with the peanut butter

  154. I had to think about it, but my final answer would be my moms peanut brittle that she makes at Christmas. (when she doesn’t burn it, lol).

  155. vanilla ice cream

  156. Tough question! I went back and forth longer than I probably needed to since it is hypothetical. But. . .ice-cream. Specifically chocolate with salted caramel, orrrrr mint chip!

  157. If I had to choose only one dessert, it would be pecan pie. It’s one of my most favorite desserts since childhood. I have so many , fond memories of this sweet treat. From family gatherings around the holidays, especially Christmas and Easter, this pie always seemed to resurface & disappear. I also remember those random summer days sitting on my grandmother’s deck in the country eating it and enjoying the view from where I sat.

  158. Well since I ate SIX of these in the past two days, I would have to say the mint chocolate chip Klondike bar. So yum!

  159. I’d have to choose a custard filled, chocolate iced donut.

  160. Ben and Jerry’s half baked ice cream! :)

  161. I would eat lemon meringue pie! Nom nom nom. I love lemon desserts but the pie is my favourite.
