Food Blog Forum and Something Brand New and Bright Blue

This post doesn’t involve baking from this weekend
but there’s something pretty sweet at the end I think you’ll like.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Okay, so I’ve been out of town for the last two weekends. First, Chicago for the Home and Housewares Show

and last weekend somewhere a little bit warmer.

I was in sunny Florida for a weekend conference full of learning and sharing with friends – and a bunch of food and fun thrown in.

IMG_9522

Food Blog Forum Orlando. Put on by Jaden Hair of Steamy Kitchen, Todd & Diane of White On Rice Couple, Julie Deily of The Little Kitchen and Dawn Viola.

And sponsored by Disney, Kitchenaid, OXO, Land O’ Lakes, Whole Foods, Le Creuset and more.

The meeting was held at Walt Disney World and it was amazing. So well done. Julie from the Little Kitchen knows how to put together a great event. I was there with a bunch of great speakers. (See the whole group here) Alison Lewis (Ingredients, Inc.) and I spoke at round table discussions on writing a cookbook. I really enjoyed the round table set up because we were able to talk one-on-one with people and that’s much more my speed. I don’t think I’d be very good at getting up in front of a big room of people and talking. There would be a lot of umms and likes and pauses I’m sure.

photo19

On the evening before the meeting, we had a beautiful outdoor reception at the Grand Floridian. My sweet friend Jenny (Picky Palate) and I met some great girls. Nikki (Pennies on a Platter), Krissy (Krissy’s Creations), Julie (Table for Two) and Rachel (The Fabulous Foodie). Hi girls. Thanks for making Magic Kingdom such a blast!

Untitled-1

We hit up a few rides and went on a search for Dole Whip and churros before the park closed. It was my first time trying either. So yum! Thanks for sharing these phone pics girls.

We spent all day Saturday at Epcot where the meeting was held.

Untitled-2

It was definitely a special place to have a meeting. Not only were there great speakers, yummy treats, amazing prizes, like stand mixers and refrigerators, Le creusets and more but when we were done, we had a huge world to explore.

IMG_9445

If only I could have seen it all. I’ve never been to Epcot. I had no idea how ginormous this park was. Actually, I still don’t know how big it is. But that’s okay because what I did see was perfect.

photo12

We had an incredible lunch extravaganza prepared by Disney chefs from the parks and hotels.

Untitled-3

I focused on dessert of course.

Untitled-4

Lunch gave us all more time to talk.

Here’s Lauren’s Latest, Julie, Krissy and Jenny.

And I finally finally met Elise from Simply Recipes. Yay! Hope we can chat more next time.

Alison and Jenny. Love you guys.

And sweet, sweet Julie. Again, great job on pulling this event together.

IMG_9729

On Sunday we had a brunch hosted by Whole Foods. Incredible food means the cameras come out.

IMG_9649

See what I mean. That’s Dawn in the back, Julie and Jenny, and then Lindsey (Love and Olive Oil) in the front.

This might be one of my favorite pics from the weekend. It just makes me giggle at how we all do the same thing as bloggers. It’s almost uncontrollable when you have a camera in your hand.

IMG_9663

But in our defense, the flowers were pretty cheery.

IMG_9705

I enjoyed this weekend so much.

Hi Emily (Sage Recipes) and Kiran (Kirantarun)! It was nice meeting you both. Hope to see you again. And you too Droolius and Simply Southern Baking.

Thanks for a weekend of great memories with old friends and new!

So now the fun part.

I’m having an amazing giveaway today.

If you read last week’s post, you may remember some of the new products I talked about from the Home and Housewares Show in Chicago. One of them was this Kitchenaid mixer in Crystal Blue, the brand new color from the Catalina Collection that I fell in love with.

catalina-collection

Well, I met some of the folks from Kitchenaid in Chicago for the first time and and then coincidentally, we met again in Orlando the very next weekend as they were one of the sponsors of Food Blog Forum. It was a surprise to see them two weeks in a row. We talked about how much I loved the brand new color they debuted in Chicago and we thought it would be a fun giveaway here on bakerella.com.

KitchenAidCrystlblueWant to brighten up your kitchen and be one of the first people to own a mixer in this brand new, bright blue color courtesy of Kitchenaid? I know I would. It’s such a happy color. And much more vibrant in person.

Enter for a chance to win this Crystal Blue 5-quart Artisan Stand Mixer from Kitchenaid!

  • Just leave a comment on this post here on the website and answer the following question.
  • If you could only eat one kind of sweet/dessert for the rest of your life, what would choose? And not just cookie or cupcake, etc. – but what kind if you can? I’m very curious.
  • Deadline to enter is Wednesday, March 28th at 5 pm ET.

SORRY, TIME’S UP! Winner Announced Below.

  • One winner will be chosen at random and announced sometime Wednesday evening.

oh and FYI – the Crystal Blue color should be available for purchase starting sometime in April.

Reading all of your sweet choices are driving me crazy. I have cravings now for way too many treats.

I don’t know if I could pick just one either. But warm brownies and ice cream are always a safe bet for me. No nuts. No whipped cream. No syrup. Plain and simple chocolate and vanilla. Warm and cold deliciousness.

Okay, ready for the winner?

It’s comment #6224 – Leann

Congratulations and enjoy your bright blue baby. Hope you make lots of amazing desserts and smile every time you look at it.

  1. Wow….now this is a hard choice. One dessert for the rest of my life….I’m going to have to go with something simple….A piece of chocolate cake with vanilla frosting. And more specifically, I have this great recipe for a chocolate fudge cake so I’d have to pick that exact one. It has chocolate pudding and chunks of chocolate in it. You can never go wrong with chocolate :)

I’ve even turned tiramisu into cupcakes and cookies! LOVE IT!

  46. Grasshopper cookies man… plain and simple.

  47. I’m half Greek, and the half Italian side of me (mama) makes a Greek dessert that we’ve lovingly named Poupeiki (because the real name is crazy long and very Greek). It’s phyllo dough layered with butter, cinnamon and sugar and filled with a farina pudding that’s flavored with lemon rind. It’s AMAZING. I’m a chocolate freak, and this has no chocolate and it’s still my dessert of choice :) Love you bakerella!!

  48. Oh my, I definitely have to say Black Forest Cake with a LOT Of cherries and extra chocolate shavings that decorate it. YUMMY!!!!

  58. I’d keep it simple with a warm, homemade chocolate chip cookie, possibly with some homemade vanilla bluebell on the side. You can’t beat that!

  73. Warm apple pie with vanilla bean ice cream…any day, any time!

  85. Oh how I’d love a new mixer, my Kitchenaid is 10+ years old and I fear one day it’s going to die on me.

  103. Nutella! Just a jar and a spoon and I’m set. :)

  104. I had some kind of raspberry tart with almond pastry when we went to Rome a few months ago. I’m still trying to track that recipe down. 116. If I could only eat one dessert for the rest of my life, I would definitely pick my Grandma’s German Chocolate cake! She makes it from scratch, even the frosting! It’s 6 layers (she’s an overachiever! Ha!) of dense, super moist, awesomeness. The perfect dessert in my book!

  117. I could eat cheesecake day in and day out, but I honestly don’t know if I could just live with one flavour of it!

  120. I would have to say….

Mint chocolate chip ice cream. It is my weakness :)

  130. Chocolate chip cookies for sure. You can never go wrong with those, and I never get tired of them! Especially when they are homemade.

  131. Angel food cake with mint frosting and sprinkles.

  132. Blue Bell Cookies & Cream Ice Cream. It’s been my favorite flavor since I was a little girl, and Blue Bell just tastes like home. Anytime I’ve lived in a state that didn’t have it, I was besides myself with ice cream grief.

  135. I don’t know if I could pick just one. I love dessert, I would eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner if I could. My favorite candy at Easter time is sour starburst jellybeans. I also love banana sour cream cake with cream cheese frosting covered in walnuts, unbelievable!!

  141. Hmmm…I would have to go with something decadent if I had to eat only that one dessert forever. I think I would choose pumpkin praline cheesecake since it combines several of my loves (pumpkin, cheesecake, and nuts). ;)

    Thanks!
    -Erica

  142. Creme brulee, basic vanilla, never fails to please me! I do believe I could eat it every day! :) Love the blue mixer!

  164. It would have to be my Aunt Kathy’s coconut cake. It’s so simple but so delicious! It’s one of those soak cakes that is dripping with coconut flavor and topped with whipped cream and fluffy coconut. It’s been a family favorite since she move back to New Jersey from Hawaii!

  165. Oh gosh, it would probably have to be something lemony and baked… Lemon squares. Lemon cookies. Lemon Cake. Definitely something lemony – but not too “eggy” you know what I mean?

Not that I’m picky or anything :)

  166. Oh my gosh, I don’t know.
I love chocolate, so maybe I’ll just go with brownies.

  167. Well I love anything with chocolate and peanut butter, but I think if I had to only have one dessert for the rest of my life it would be the Vanilla Vanilla Cupcakes from a bakery in Pittsburgh that I had a wedding a few years ago. I think the bakery may have shut down, but the cupcakes I had are still my definition of perfection to this day :D

  168. It would have to be an eclair. Love the new blue color. It makes you happy when you lOok at it.

  169. My dessert of choice would be a white chocolate raspberry cheesecake! I loveeeeee this combination!

  171. My mom’s famous cherry pie! It is the best!

  172. It would definitely have to be ice cream, since that is my one true love in life :D Probably something along the lines of Ben and Jerry’s Phish Food. Chocolate ice cream with caramel, marshmallow swirls, and chunks of chocolate. I’d add in some brownie chunks and I’d be good to go!

  174. Not an easy question to answer, but if I had to narrow down to just one…my mom’s apply pie. No one makes it better. No one.

  175. My favorite sweet is morning buns, but I also love confetti angel food cake with “7-minute” frosting.

  176. I think it’s because I made a batch yesterday and they’re on my mind but I’m going to say lemon bars.

  177. My one and only dessert that I would want to eat the rest of my life would be a butter finger cake. In my family peanut butter is a religious experience. Anything made with peanut butter or a peanut butter product. This is a chocolate cake infused with caramel. With a layer of butter fingers crumbled, with whipped topping more butter finger and fudge drizzled in top. Diabetes on a plate, but oh so good!

  178. Tough question! Ice cream – vanilla with fruit would have to be it.

  179. black and white cookies for the win! soft and sweet.

  180. I would have to have Hershey kisses. That would be something I would hate to live without.

I’m in the middle of a very long kitchen renovation and I would LOVE to have this beautiful blue mixer. My old one is almost of legal drinking age and it doesn’t seem to go as fast on high speed anymore. Anyway, this would be something else to look forward to using when the kitchen is done. I can’t wait!

  181. If I could only eat one kind of sweet/dessert for the rest of my life it would have to be ice cream. The beauty of ice cream is that you can make a base flavor and keep it fresh by adding different toppings or flavors to the base. Ice cream is my favorite thing on Earth. Can you tell it’s my weakness?

  182. It would have to be Snickerdoodle cookies!

  183. I would like to eat raisin filled cookies. Really like a small pie.

  184. That’s really hard. It’s a toss up between old fashioned chocolate chip and fruit pie – strawberry rhubarb being the biggest contender. Thanks for the great giveaway!!

  185. Ohhh, I don’t know, so many!! But I really love, Caramel Popcorn.

  186. I would eat only classic sugar cookies with buttercream icing. Mmmmmmm. : )

  187. Only one dessert for the rest of my life? That sounds terrible, lol, but I guess I’d go with ice cream. As much as I love baked goods there’s nothing better than a scoop of ice cream on a hot day! :)

  188. Dark Chocolate Cake Pops – I love them!

  189. Only one?? Then it would have to be a gooey chocolate chip brownie, covered in a warm chocolate ganache, topped with homemade vanilla bean ice cream, with mounds of freshly made whipped cream and a gazillion sprinkles!

  190. Peach cobbler with a scoop of vanilla icecream!! Mmmmmm, mmmmm!!

  191. Hands down a Napoleon…morning, noon and night! :)

  192. Chocolate Cinnamon Crinkles!

  193. I would choose my mom’s homemade chocolate chip cookies. They are THE BEST. Ever!

  194. Anything with CHOCOLATE in it! Nothing like a moist chocolate cake with a silky smooth chocolate frosting!

  195. Chocolate Chess Pie….yummy!

  196. Boston Cream Pie.

  197. My favorite dessert ever would be a cookies & cream milkshake with whipped cream on top. You get the smooth creamy deliciousness of the ice cream, but still get the crunch of a cookie with pieces of Oreos in it. Yum!

  198. Just one? I would have to go with Red Velvet Cake – even though I may have OD’d on it this past weekend. It was my birthday and my friends know that is my favorite cake.
Oh, I just have to win…that thing is lovely!!

  199. If I could eat one dessert for the rest of my lifetime, it would have to be buckeyes! Otherwise known as peanut butter balls! I grew up eating them, and there’s just something homey about it :)

  200. I would eat Chocolate Mouse topped Cheesecake! I Love Cheesecake and Chocolate Mouse so the two together would be heaven.
