Here’s a little something I think you guys will like. It’s a Walnut Blondie with Maple Butter Sauce. I don’t know what made me think about this dessert, because I’ve only had it once. It was several years ago… maybe even eight. I was eating out at Applebee’s with my family and we decided to get dessert. Now, I eat out kind of often, but desserts are usually saved for celebrations. Birthdays and such. And, when I do get one, it’s usually the most chocolate thing on the menu and it never contains nuts. But on that day, it wasn’t my celebration. It was my uncle’s and I agreed to split this non-chocolate, nut-filled dessert – the whole while thinking about how much better the chocolate would be. Well, I was wrong. Way wrong. This might have even been the best thing I had ever tasted. (up until that point, anyway.)
So, if you’ve never been to Applebee’s and you’ve never tasted the Walnut Blondie with Maple Butter Sauce, that’s okay. Because, you’re in luck. I found a recipe from The Secret Recipe Blog that’s as close to the original as I remember it.
I promise you’ll like it.
Here are the ingredients for the blondies.
Mix it all up…
And, spread it all out in a greased and floured 8 or 9 inch square pan. (I used the 8 inch)
When the blondies are almost done, mix up your maple butter sauce. Here’s what you’ll need.
When the brownies are done, cool for a few minutes. Cut and serve while they are still warm.
Put one, or two, or six on a plate. Pile on some vanilla ice cream and slowly pour the warm maple butter sauce over everything. Top with any extra walnuts.
OMG!!!!!
Now, if you don’t have any ice cream in the house, don’t let that stop you from making this.
Actually, if one were to make just the blondies and the maple butter sauce, one might even want to cut up small pieces of the blondie and use the maple butter sauce as a dip. One might even end up dunking the whole thing in the sauce and getting maple butter all over their fingers that they then had to force themselves to lick off. However, I don’t know anyone like that.
Again, here’s the recipe.
And, now for a giveaway…

I have been wanting to ask you, who eats all the stuff you make? I love to bake however it’s just me and the Mr at the house :(

Favorite as in one? I hope I am disqualified for not being any good at favorites (colors, foods, numbers I’ve never had just one favorite)… but if I must, I will comply, but first I feel the need to present two “honorable mentions.”
The Zabaglione from Michelangelo’s Restaurante’ in Houston, Texas was a rare treat – it’s the only restaurant where I remember seeing this dessert. We ate there 10 or more years ago and still remember how well this dessert complemented our meal… YUMMY!!
I too normally choose chocolate (or sometimes creme brulee) because my husband is a chocoholic and as we all know rich chocolate rarely disappoints. We love decadent dark chocolate cakes and usually opt for something that fits this description or nothing at all. So in this category I have great memories of another little place in Houston that does not seem to exist anymore – it was called Tuscany (and was located in the Montrose area). The dessert was supposed to be a Chocolate Eruption – but there was a typo so it read Chocolate Erpution – we still laugh about this and remember how delicious this cake was and how decadent we felt (again this was at least 10 years ago).
So what is my favorite restaurant dessert? For presentation, taste, variety and uniqueness I’d have to choose the fabulous tray of chocolate desserts called CHOCOLATE FOUR WAYS (chocolate mille feuille, toasted almond ice cream, chocolate-blood orange layer cake, blood orange sorbet, chocolate brioche pudding, mint ice cream) from Tangerine in Philadelphia! I was there on a business trip last November (my 1st without Baby) and was still able to fully enjoy my meal and the platter of desserts even without any wine (as #2 is on the way, due on my b-day – but don’t worry I’m planning ahead to ensue that I get plenty of b-day cake)!
Thanks for the walk down dessert memory lane.
My favorite is the chocolate souffle I once had this small, family-owned restaurant in Pasadena, CA… the way it melted in my mouth is just AMAZING.
One of my favorite desserts is the strawberry shortcake from Cheesecake Factory. I could eat a million of those buttery shortcake biscuits all by themselves.

My all time favorite is the Strawberry Cream cake from Edgar’s bakery, whether you dine there, take a piece home, or take home the whole cake for that matter! Fresh pureed strawberries in the homemade cream cheese frosting, yum! Too bad I no longer live close. Even though I haven’t had a piece since moving cross country, it is something other desserts can’t hold a candle to.
