Dining Out Dessert

Walnut Blondie with Maple Butter Sauce

Here’s a little something I think you guys will like. It’s a Walnut Blondie with Maple Butter Sauce. I don’t know what made me think about this dessert, because I’ve only had it once. It was several years ago… maybe even eight. I was eating out at Applebee’s with my family and we decided to get dessert. Now, I eat out kind of often, but desserts are usually saved for celebrations. Birthdays and such. And, when I do get one, it’s usually the most chocolate thing on the menu and it never contains nuts. But on that day, it wasn’t my celebration. It was my uncle’s and I agreed to split this non-chocolate, nut-filled dessert – the whole while thinking about how much better the chocolate would be. Well, I was wrong. Way wrong. This might have even been the best thing I had ever tasted. (up until that point, anyway.)

So, if you’ve never been to Applebee’s and you’ve never tasted the Walnut Blondie with Maple Butter Sauce, that’s okay. Because, you’re in luck. I found a recipe from The Secret Recipe Blog that’s as close to the original as I remember it.

I promise you’ll like it.

Here’s the recipe.

Here are the ingredients for the blondies.

Blondie Ingredients

Mix it all up…

Blondie Batter

And, spread it all out in a greased and floured 8 or 9 inch square pan. (I used the 8 inch)

When the blondies are almost done, mix up your maple butter sauce. Here’s what you’ll need.

Maple Butter Sauce Ingredients

When the brownies are done, cool for a few minutes. Cut and serve while they are still warm.

Walnut Blondies

Put one, or two, or six on a plate. Pile on some vanilla ice cream and slowly pour the warm maple butter sauce over everything. Top with any extra walnuts.

Maple Butter Sauce

OMG!!!!!

Now, if you don’t have any ice cream in the house, don’t let that stop you from making this.

Actually, if one were to make just the blondies and the maple butter sauce, one might even want to cut up small pieces of the blondie and use the maple butter sauce as a dip. One might even end up dunking the whole thing in the sauce and getting maple butter all over their fingers that they then had to force themselves to lick off. However, I don’t know anyone like that.

Again, here’s the recipe.

And, now for a giveaway…

  1. That recipe looks amazing!

My favourite dessert is really something me and my mum got a bit wrong. It was Cherry Berry Trifle according-to-the-recipe, but eventually consisted of a lovely Cherry Berry mixture from the local farm shop (cherries, red/white/balck currants, brambles, loganberries, raspberries), stewed and topped with creeeeamy white chocolate custard. Then a bit of extra white chocolate shaved on top for fun. Mmmmmm.

  2. I have two – Sydney’s Sinful Sundae at Outback or a slice of plain cheesecake with fruit sauce at Cheesecake Factory. Delish!

From the table overlooking Columbus’ skyline you are served a plate with a frosted mug filled with delicious vanilla ice cream and root beer granita, your own bottle of IBC rootbeer to pour at will and some freshly baked, warm chocolate chip cookies. Heaven. The root beer granita tastes exactly like you want the root beer to taste when it freezes perfectly in the frosted mug – not too much just enough to give you a little crispy crunch with all the sweet flavor and not watered down. I don’t care much for root beer floats but this changed my mind on that forever. It’s fabulous.

  158. Oh, it’s been a couple of years since I’ve had that Applebee’s blondie. yummmmmm.
Biaggi’s bananas foster is one of my favorites.

  159. Chili’s molten chocolate CHIP cake is my absolute favorite! I think it’s their newest desert. LOVE IT!

  160. Either fried ice cream at a local Mexican restaurant or Olive Garden’s white chocolate raspberry cheesecake.

  161. Lemon raspberry cheesecake at Cheesecake Factory…to die for!
    tarynitup@gmail.com

  162. I love the Pana Cotta and Tiramisu at the local mom & pop Italian Restaurant downtown. I have tried to replicate it to no avail! It's just sooo darn good!

  163. best dining out desert comes from restaurant Sweet Fire & Ice in New Orleans…it's a cheesecake Martini! Scoops of various flavors of cheesecake in a Martini glass topped with crumbled graham cracker crust and toasted pecans and then garnished w/ your choice of sauce (read chocolate, praline, dulce de leche, raspberry etc.) and whipped cream- YUM!!

  164. Black and white cake from Alcove, in Los Angeles!

    lhopitalhostile@hotmail.com

  165. Death by Chocolate! Can’t even remember the name of the restaurant where I ate it, but the combination of sleep deprived college student and chocolate/sugar overload made for some very hyper memories!

  166. favorite dessert has to be without a doubt the flan at abuelos mexican restaurant in dallas tx.

    AMAZING

  167. I love dairy queen soft serve!

  168. That looks delicious. I may make a few changes and whip it up for my boyfriend this weekend. He has been complaining that I haven’t cooked or baked for him lately… That said, I remember this restaurant a looooong time ago that had fried ice cream. It was so yummy. I miss that place and the junk from the store (no offense!) just isn’t the same.

Anyway, off to wait for your news!!

  172. My alltime favorite. Creme Brulee from Pacifica Grill in San Diego. One of the first dates my husband and I ever went on. I vividly remember the date the dessert and the evening. I’ve only made in once in our 17 years of marriage. It is a very time consuming recipe, but well worth it.
    Aaahhhhh Good times, good times.

  173. I LOVE the Chocolate Molton Cake at Chilis! BUT I also do love the Walnut Blondie at Applebees! um!

  174. Wow, you have a lot of these to read. I have 2 favorite dining out desserts, my first one is from a local favorite in Utah which is the Magelbys Fresh chocolate cake (which is homemade everyday). 2nd is the Chili’s Chocolate Moulton cake and that is because my husband durning a hard time surprised me with it next to candle light. My info. robynjsdesigns@gmail.com

  175. Longhorn Steakhouse’s Ultimate Brownie Sundae.

Nothing better than a disgustingly decadent Ghiradelli chocolate brownie piping hot and oozing fudge smothered in ice cold vanilla ice cream and drowning in even more gooeylicious fudge.

    Now I am hungry….

  176. I had almost the exact same experience, only it was my grandmother who ordered dessert and I agreed to share. I knew there was something else on the menu that had to be better, but it was her choice. I couldn’t believe how good it was, and now I order it whenever we’re in Applebee’s.

As for my favorite dessert, it has to be ice cream from Mad Martha’s on Martha’s Vineyard. I get it almost every night when we’re on vacation.

  177. It's a toss up, dutch apple caramel streusel cheesecake & the chocolate cake cheesecake. Yes, both from the cheesecake factory.

  178. I pretty much love any desert that I get when I actually order desert, but this restaurant where I go to school called The Neighbors Place pretty much combines the blondie and a regular brownie together! Its called the Brownie Two Tone. It is a rich toffee crunch Blondie and white chocolate brownie topped with vanilla ice cream, chocolate caramel sauce, and finished with whip cream. DELICIOUS! But I also love the twisty ice cream of chocolate and vanilla with lots of sprinkles that you can pretty much get from any buffet!

    You are AWESOME! :0)

  179. My current favorite is the little chocolate cakes at our Jack in the Box. They are surprisingly good just the right size and not exorbitant. Plus super easy when I really need a hit of chocolate.
    Kare

  180. I LOVED the Banana Rumba dessert at Chili’s and I’m very sad they no longer have it.

  181. Olive Garden used to have this yummy creme brulee’. I love areally good cheesecake. The Fogo De Chao in Buckhead (ATL) has the tallest cheesecake I’ve ever seen. Funny, I’ve never been to the cheesecake factory. I wonder how their cheesecake is.
Thanks for doing a giveaway. I enjoy just entering. I’m not a gambler or Lotto player and the one time I did Publisher’s clearing house on my computer it crashed from all the spam. I only enter blog giveaways.

  182. I would have to say the Snickers Cheesecake from Cheesecake Factory. Yum!! So rich and delicious. And a combination of two of my favorite things, snickers and cheesecake! You can’t beat it!

  183. I used to love the Brownie sundae from Bennigan’s…walnut brownie on bottom, ice cream on top, topped with hot fudge sauce. Yum! I craved that when I was pregnant with my older son…used to go in just for dessert. They soon got to know me. :) We don’t have Bennigan’s here anymore, and I miss it.

  184. I love cheesecake from just about anywhere!

  185. Apple Cinnamon Oblivion at Outback Steakhouse, is my hands down favorite.

  186. Im Partial to Tiramisu or the Hot Choclate melting cake with Strawberrys and Creme at Olive Garden its Divine!

  187. My favorite dining out desert was a place in Oklahoma called the Crimson Ice Creamary…..Divine. For $2.50 you could get a heaping amount of ice cream and mixins and it was the best ice cream….EVER! The place went out of business, but not for a lack of me and my friends trying to keep it running:-)

  188. It used to be the Strawberry Tallcake from Ruby Tuesdays-imagine my surprise when we moved back to the states and i found it had disappeared from the menu!!

There was a little bistro in Guam that made a mango ginger souffle to die for! I like to support locally owned places, if possible.

  189. Right now it’s a toss up between the Hot Fudge Cake Sundae (a huge piece of chocolate cake with ice cream and hot fudge and whipped cream and cherries) that we had at Cheddar’s a few weeks ago, or any flavor ice cream from Bruster’s. All of their ice cream is homemade, and it’s difficult for me to pick a favorite.

  190. I have two. Years ago 2 friends and I would go to Ruby Tuesday’s strictly for the chocolate tall cake. We called it ‘sex in a glass’ and would even order it under that name. The servers always knew what we were referring to.

My NEW favorite is the chocolate chip cookie dough flautas at Tijuana Flats. Oh they are heaven and great for sharing!

  191. I love dessert of any kind: pies, cakes. I absolutely love cheesecake. I’ll take it anywhere! And the fresh strawberry pie from Perkins is another fave!

  195. Cold Stone ice cream.

  196. Cheesecake – it’s my weakness, and I can’t seem to pull off a homemade one, so whenever I get dessert – that’s what I choose…

    Mmmmm….

  197. My favorite dessert recently is Starbucks Marshmallow Squares – I've always loved rice crispie treats (so long as you can taste the marshmallow) & their's have actual chunks of marshmallow!

  198. There’s a place called Sweet Christopher’s a block outside my apartment here in Jamaica Plain/Boston.

Their flourless chocolate cake may be the best dessert I’ve ever had, ever, and I don’t like flourless chocolate cake.

Plus the owner is incredibly nice.

  199. Oh the Melting Pot’s Cookies and Cream Marshmellow Dream is my weakness…dip a few strawberries in it and I’m set!

  200. I love, Love, LOVE Cheesecake Factory’s fresh strawberry cheesecake!

Just the right amount of plain cheesecake and strawberries with whipped cream for good measure!

    Mmmmm!
