Dining Out Dessert

Walnut Blondie with Maple Butter Sauce

Here’s a little something I think you guys will like. It’s a Walnut Blondie with Maple Butter Sauce. I don’t know what made me think about this dessert, because I’ve only had it once. It was several years ago… maybe even eight. I was eating out at Applebee’s with my family and we decided to get dessert. Now, I eat out kind of often, but desserts are usually saved for celebrations. Birthdays and such. And, when I do get one, it’s usually the most chocolate thing on the menu and it never contains nuts. But on that day, it wasn’t my celebration. It was my uncle’s and I agreed to split this non-chocolate, nut-filled dessert – the whole while thinking about how much better the chocolate would be. Well, I was wrong. Way wrong. This might have even been the best thing I had ever tasted. (up until that point, anyway.)

So, if you’ve never been to Applebee’s and you’ve never tasted the Walnut Blondie with Maple Butter Sauce, that’s okay. Because, you’re in luck. I found a recipe from The Secret Recipe Blog that’s as close to the original as I remember it.

I promise you’ll like it.

Here’s the recipe.

Here are the ingredients for the blondies.

Blondie Ingredients

Mix it all up…

Blondie Batter

And, spread it all out in a greased and floured 8 or 9 inch square pan. (I used the 8 inch)

When the blondies are almost done, mix up your maple butter sauce. Here’s what you’ll need.

Maple Butter Sauce Ingredients

When the brownies are done, cool for a few minutes. Cut and serve while they are still warm.

Walnut Blondies

Put one, or two, or six on a plate. Pile on some vanilla ice cream and slowly pour the warm maple butter sauce over everything. Top with any extra walnuts.

Maple Butter Sauce

OMG!!!!!

Now, if you don’t have any ice cream in the house, don’t let that stop you from making this.

Actually, if one were to make just the blondies and the maple butter sauce, one might even want to cut up small pieces of the blondie and use the maple butter sauce as a dip. One might even end up dunking the whole thing in the sauce and getting maple butter all over their fingers that they then had to force themselves to lick off. However, I don’t know anyone like that.

Again, here’s the recipe.

And, now for a giveaway…

  11. Chili’s Chocolate Chip Paradise Pie! YUM!

  12. I have two. I couldnt make up my mind.

First is the Chili’s molten lava cake. Yummy soft cake with ooey gooey hot chocolate “lava” on the inside and vanilla ice cream on the side. I love cutting into the cake and the lava spilling all over the place.

Second, not really a dessert but it tastes like one, IHOP’s Banana Foster pancakes. Pancakes with ice cream, bananas, and caramel glaze. Heaven on a plate.

    I’m michelle.elsky@gmail.com by the way!!!

  13. There’s this 24-hour alternative greasy spoon here in Seattle called Beth’s Cafe, and they have a six-dollar shake that’s worth every penny–it’s got chocolate, peanut butter, and actual brownies in it! Why buy a beverage AND a dessert when you can get it all in one?

Probably my favorite treat is a twist soft-serve ice cream cone from McDonalds. I guess I need to eat out more :-)

  22. Also, I’m too lazy to read all the comments to see if someone mentioned it, but to rosenblue: I’m pretty sure that Applebee’s uses sweetened condensed milk in their sauce.

  23. McCormick & Schmick's upside-down apple pie. They serve it with cinnamon ice cream, which is heavenly all by itself. In case you'd like to make it, here's the recipe: http://www.projo.com/food/content/fd-upsidedownpie_11-14-07_Q17PPPF_v12.d943e2.html

I made it recently, and it was delicious!

  24. I love the Olive Garden’s Chocolate Gellato. Yummy!

  25. Boy does that look good…going to see if I have the ingredients right now!!

As for my favorite dessert out, I think it is too difficult to choose. Had some yummy Key Lime Pie at a local restaurant the other day…so I’m going with that. nafspac@gmail.com

  26. I love tres leches (most notably at Berryhill, a TX chain because they also do a chocolate version). I have not gotten up the nerve to try that one at home, so I usually get extra to go! Yum!

    hotrodgal(at)gmail(dot)com

  27. When we were in Kauai for our 4th anniversary we could not get enough of the Hula Pie at Keoki’s! It was a favorite and after 6 years we still have incredibly fond memories of it!

Can’t wait to hear the exciting news!
    lizpgarcia@yahoo.com

  32. My very favorite dining out dessert is the Chocolate Stampede at Longhorn Steakhouse. It’s two giant wedges of chocolate cake layered with chocolate mousse and some kind of fudgy icing served with drizzled chocolate sauce, whipped cream, and ice cream. You need a family of four to finish it all, but it is the most decadent dessert I’ve had that I didn’t make myself.

  33. Mine would have to be La Baguette’s (local Oklahoma bakery in Norman, OK http://www.labaguette.com) “Chocolate Divine Cake” 3 layer dark chocolate cake with a layer of cream cheese icing, mocha cream cheese icing and Chocolate Fix icing, with chocolate chips on the sides and Maraschino cherries on top. Anything chocolate with cream cheese frosting is heaven for me!

  34. my latest fav dining out dessert was a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and brown sugar gelato-SO rich, but honestly it was the BEST chocolate cake i think i’ve ever had!!
    sweetpea182jd @ yahoo.com

  35. My favorite is the white chocolate rasberry cheesecake at Olive Garden.

  36. Chili’s molten lava cake. Yum, yum!

    pdun776@aol.com

  37. I am in love with the Lemon Raspberry cheescake at Cheecake Factory. That is one place I always get dessert.

  38. I love the deep dish Apple Pie from Claim Jumpers. Warm. With melting ice cream. And one spoon. No sharing.

  39. The Maple Butter Blondie is actually my absolute favorite. Whenever I crave a dessert, this is what I will get. I’ll call Carside To Go just to get it. I’m going to have to try this recipe.

  40. At the Rainforest Cafe, which I haven’t been too in a while, they have a dessert called Volcano (I think). A couple of chocolate brownies stacked up into the shape of a volcano, vanilla ice cream in the middle, some whipped cream “lava” splashed around and of course, a sparkler sticking out of the top. They announce the dessert to everyone who orders it by yelling “V-O-L-C-A-N-O!!!!” everytime.

It’s enough dessert for a family of 4.

  41. Love Love Love the John Cole from Carrabbas- It is sugar coated pecans served with blue bell ice cream and caramel sauce- it is really simple but so delicious!

  42. I love the Chili’s Warm Cinnamon Roll shot! They are so good and are the perfect size so you don’t eat too much!!

  43. I love the idea of a Cadbury Creme Egg McFlurry!! It’s probably good they don’t have them here in the US or I’d weigh a gajillion pounds!

And does any Mickey Dee’s still do fried pies? Those were delicious!! The baked ones, not so much.

But my favorite Dining Out Dessert is the (original, not chocolate) Flan at Abuelo’s. There are not many restaurants where my husband and I will order dessert, but we get dessert at Abuelo’s almost every time we go (which, with two kids, isn’t very often). We have even been known to get it to-go and eat it at home after the kids are asleep!

  57. Mine used to be the Chocolate Chip Paradise Pie from Chili’s, that was before they changed it. About 5 years ago it used to be different. They would bring it out on the hot skillet similar to the Blondie and it was AWESOME! Infact I had it the night before my first son was born and I swear it was because he wanted to taste the dessert too. Now it has changed and it make me so sad, I have even written to Chili’s to tell them of my disappointment.

  156. My very favorite dining-out dessert is the oatmeal cookie, homemade vanilla ice cream sandwich at Potbelly’s Sandwich Works. They fresh bake the cookies every day and they’re HUGE. They pop those puppies in the warmer, slap a huge glob of their homemade vanilla ice cream in between, and slice it down the middle. When I was in high school and I was having a particularly bad (or sometimes particularly good) day, my sweet mom would take me over to Potbellys and we’d split this little chunk of heaven. Perfection.

  157. Cookie Monster at Cheddar’s!

    tootall36067@yahoo.com

  197. Anytime I have dessert out, it is typically for ice cream. For something that is baked, however, I absolutely love this hot fudge cake sundae that I’ve only found at a local ice cream joint in Norfolk, Virginia. I don’t live around there now, but every time I go back to visit family, I have to get the hot fudge cake sundae!

  198. I love that asphalt pie at wingers!

  199. I’d have to say Key Lime Pie at Morton’s of Chicago OR
Kopp’s Frozen Custard, praline flavor, the best thing to come out of Milwaukee since Laverne and Shirley!

  200. too many to choose from. ;-; if i had to pick I’d go with the made-in-front-of-you banana, nutella and mars bar crepe that i had in Thailand. got it from a small vendor where all the restaurants were. every. single. night. for two weeks. XD the crepe was thin and crunchy around the edges but perfectly gooey and soft where the mars bar caramel had melted it together.

    oh man. -craving one now-
