Here’s a little something I think you guys will like. It’s a Walnut Blondie with Maple Butter Sauce. I don’t know what made me think about this dessert, because I’ve only had it once. It was several years ago… maybe even eight. I was eating out at Applebee’s with my family and we decided to get dessert. Now, I eat out kind of often, but desserts are usually saved for celebrations. Birthdays and such. And, when I do get one, it’s usually the most chocolate thing on the menu and it never contains nuts. But on that day, it wasn’t my celebration. It was my uncle’s and I agreed to split this non-chocolate, nut-filled dessert – the whole while thinking about how much better the chocolate would be. Well, I was wrong. Way wrong. This might have even been the best thing I had ever tasted. (up until that point, anyway.)
So, if you’ve never been to Applebee’s and you’ve never tasted the Walnut Blondie with Maple Butter Sauce, that’s okay. Because, you’re in luck. I found a recipe from The Secret Recipe Blog that’s as close to the original as I remember it.
I promise you’ll like it.
Here are the ingredients for the blondies.
Mix it all up…
And, spread it all out in a greased and floured 8 or 9 inch square pan. (I used the 8 inch)
When the blondies are almost done, mix up your maple butter sauce. Here’s what you’ll need.
When the brownies are done, cool for a few minutes. Cut and serve while they are still warm.
Put one, or two, or six on a plate. Pile on some vanilla ice cream and slowly pour the warm maple butter sauce over everything. Top with any extra walnuts.
OMG!!!!!
Now, if you don’t have any ice cream in the house, don’t let that stop you from making this.
Actually, if one were to make just the blondies and the maple butter sauce, one might even want to cut up small pieces of the blondie and use the maple butter sauce as a dip. One might even end up dunking the whole thing in the sauce and getting maple butter all over their fingers that they then had to force themselves to lick off. However, I don’t know anyone like that.
Again, here’s the recipe.
And, now for a giveaway…

McDonald’s fried pies (hey, anything goes)

I love the vanilla bean cheesecake from TGI Fridays. It’s simple, but super yummy. comeflywitme@aol.com
I have struggled with the Maple Butter sauce for years. Don’t get me wrong, this version tastes awesome! But the original is somewhat creamier, and I’ve never found a good recipe that mimics both the look and taste of what you get at Applebee’s.
I did find this version…I wonder if it would turn out any closer…
Maple Butter Sauce:
1/2 Cup butter — softened
1/2 Cup powdered sugar
1/4 Cup cream cheese — softened
2 Tablespoons maple syrup
1/4 Teaspoon salt
Double Muskee cake from the Double Muskee Inn in Girdwood, Alaska is one of the most heavenly desserts ever!
Chocolate Mousse from Legal Sea Food, or their Bananas Foster. Chocolate Amaretto Creme Brulee from the Cliff House in CO Springs, CO.

The Claim Jump, ice cream chocolate chip-toffee cookie sandwich. It is delicious and HUGE!

I’m a simple gal with simple tastes. And, when I eat out, I don’t get dessert, lol. So, I think my favorite dessert from a restaurant is a McDonald’s ice cream cone :) Soft serve vanilla goodness with a crunchy cone and it’s only $1.09 :)
creme brulee is my fave dining out dessert….keriharmicar@yahoo.com
I LOVE a Heath Blizzard from DQ, that’s Dairy Queen. YUM!
My favorite is the chocolate souffle cake with vanilla bean sauce, hot fudge, and vanilla ice cream from California Pizza Kitchen. It’s amazing.
I love the Tiramisu at a restaurant called Campisi’s here in Dallas!
It would definitely have to be a secret pumpkin pie at a local resturant in town. It is fabulous, now if only I could get the secret. Contact julie at samjuliebeus{at}gmail.com
I usually go for the chocolate stuff too, but once I had a bread pudding that was as close to heaven as one can get. It was on a business trip in Houston TX.

Bucca de Beppo's has a chocolae cake that has a layer of choc. mousse & then the best choc. buttercream. The last time I ordered it was not on the menu, but asked and they still had it for some reason no longer on the menu. Fluffy & light & Rich all together!

The local french restaurant here makes flambeed desserts tableside. For a while they were offering bananas foster. They’d bring the cart over, sauté and flambee the bananas (and booze) right next to your table, and then serve them over ice cream. Absolutely fantastic.
jengooler[at]gmail[dot]com
I love peanut butter chocolate cheesecake from Cheesecake Factory and the mini chocolate mousse shots from Applebee’s.
omg, you shouldn't have gotten me started on desserts! i love Chili's cheesecake (with an extra cup of the strawberry sauce, yum) i love the rice krispy treats at the nestle bakery, i LOVE LOVE LOVE fried ice cream at Sakura (our favorite hometown japanese grill & sushi bar) the sopapillas at antonio's in austin, mcd's fruit and yogurt parfait… and wendy's m&m chocolate frosty (although i liked them MUCH better when it was a small cup and they gave you a packet of m&m's. the ratio of m&m's to frosty was great, and portion controlled!) ok ok… i can go ON but i'll stop :D
flamegoddess65@aol.com
I have so many favorites, but the top of my list would be the cheesecake at Maggiano’s. It’s fabulous!
cphiii510@aol.com

I guess I’m not the first, but I love, love, LOVE the Great Wall of Chocolate at P.F. Changs. It is the most wonderful combination of chocolate cake and chocolate ganache with a few berries that I have had the pleasure of tasting in this life!
Almost every restaurant has a molten chocolate cake served with vanilla ice cream, and that’s what I always order. Yum.
Yeah! I have some left over white chocolate chips from some cookie baking. Thanks for the tip!
Though I rarely get dessert while dining out, I’m a suck for tiramisu. Mmmm lady fingers…

Rachel S.
Spooner, WI
I love the chocolate chip bread pudding with whiskey sauce from our local French Bistro, but then I also remembered the cannoli’s from a bakery in Jersey that I adore.
Chili’s molten chocolate cake IS my favorite. I have somewhat duplicated it at home. It’s not quite the same, but it is great. My family loves it anyway. :)
As soon as I went to the Secret Recipes link you provided, it was the first thing I looked for.
My favorite dining out dessert would have to be Chirs’ Outrageous Chocolate Cake at Cheesecake Factory.
I’d say it has to be the bread pudding with whiskey sauce at this absolutely to die for little restaurant in San Clemente, Ca called Iva Lee’s. (it’s a cajun restaurant named for his mama, and it’s gorgeous.)
It’s so damned yum.
the chocolate lasagna from xs baltimore is pretty great. annd bakerella you are amazing!!
Rachel/Red Mesa Flan – Sorry, hit wrong button and left out contact: trek8718@mypacks.net
Cheese cake it is!!!
so fun to discover everyone’s deep, dark, dessert secrets ;-)
As for me, if I see a Snickers or Reese’s pie on the menu, I’m sold! Generally they’ll have this at most of those Applebee’s or upscale chain types of places.
I don’t usually order desserts from resteraunts. They are ususally too rich in taste for me. I enjoy the simple things such as cheesecake, or apple pie with ice cream.
So many desserts, so little time. But right up there has to the Iron Skillet Pie from Harrigans in Odessa, Texas. Hot apple pie served on a sizzling iron pan with brandy butter sauce and vanilla ice cream. Yummm. And this from a person who usually picks something chocolate!
I think my favourite “restaraunt” dessert has to be the banana caramel xango at Moxies. I’ll eat (and enjoy) pretty much any dessert, but I find the ones I like the best are ones I can’t easily make at home, which excludes most cakes, cheesecakes, brownies, ice cream, etc…. the Xango is banana cheesecake wrapped in a tortilla, deep fried and sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar, smothered with caramel and topped with vanilla ice cream and drizzled chocolate. It has never once let me down!
I LOVE Eddie V’s version of the Chocolate Molten Cake!! It’s the best ever…and I’ve tried tons of versions of this Cake.
Love the fried ice cream at a local Mexican restaurant, La Chicanita. So good!
stacylou1224@hotmail.com
I went to a restaurant in downtown St. Paul and had the most incredible dessert of my life. It was a three layer chocolate mousse ‘tower’ with a light chocolate layer, white chocolate layer and a dark choclate layer. OMG! That would have to my very last meal on earth-it was that good.
This might be kind of Lame… but I LLLOOOVVVEEE Carls Jr. Cheesecake! :) I don’t even know why I like it so much… But I love running through the drive through and grabbing some to go! MMmmmm! :)
My favorite dessert is a peanut butter pie at a non-chain restaurant a few towns over. I have never been able to duplicate it…it is not the kind u just mix and refrigerate!
I can’t decide! Its a tie between Cheesecake Factory’s Tres Leches cheesecake with strawberries or the fruit tarte at Market Street in SLC, UT. mmmmmm I am getting hungry!
Molten Lava Cake Yummy oozy hot chocolate fudgey sauce!
I love the Peanut Butter Chocolate Pie at Denny’s. It’s been a while since I’ve had it. I don’t even know if they have it anymore. But it’s to die for that for sure.
Adam’s Peanut Butter Cup Fudge Ripple from Cheesecake Factory…heaven on a plate!
It is always a toss up between the flan and the Plantains Foster at our local fave – Red Mesa. The flan is smooooooth and creamy. But the plantains are crispy sweet with buttery caramel sauce. Must go…drooling on the keyboard.
Oh, dessert is the BEST part of eating out! I love the chocolate cheesecake at the Cheesecake Factory, but my favorite dessert is to get fried ice cream after a Mexican meal. With caramel sauce. And whipped cream!
Although, I just had a Nutella toastie (two pieces of buttered bread with Nutella on the inside toasted like grilled cheese in a sandwich maker) with whipped cream from a can this weekend and I thought it was SO divine, so it might just be me and desserts!
Obviously, I’d eat anything!
I am with you about the most chocolate thing on the menu but when I go to the Cheesecake Factory I almost always order the Lemon Cream Cheese Raspberry cheesecake–I think it is the best one on the menu even better than the Godiva one but I haven’t been able to replicate the recipe so I go often–
Lemon Cake from Macaroni Grill. Yummy!
chocolate lasagne from olive garden. It has since been discontinued…*sigh*
SO GOOD!
I love the blondie’s at Applebees too. My other favorite is Chocolate Chip Paradise Pie at Chili’s.
There’s a thai place near me called Thai Garden that has a sweet sticky rice and coconut ice cream treat. The rice is warm and gooey, and topped with the best coconut ice cream I’ve ever had, which gets all melty and perfect. You can add chocolate sauce and then it’s all over.
Macarons from Laduree, not something I can get every day. :(
jameszine at hotmail
My favorite would have to be the chocolate chip cookie skillet at UNO’s…yum!
last night i had strawberry cheesecake ice cream from marble slab creamery. our kids’ godparents own a franchise and they brought some over. i didnt think much about it because i dont really like cheesecake, but this was better than real cheesecake..fresh strawberrys and graham cracker crust in cheesecake ice cream..delish!!!
Caramel Apple Pecan Pie from: The Blue Owl Kimmswick MO
This is an awesome pie that is a wonderful dessert when you have a nice lunch at The Blue Owl. They make everything from scratch and they have been featured on many television shows including Food Network. They even have their own cookbooks that you can purchase to make great dishes. The owner is usually always around to meet you and make you feel right at home. It is always a special treat to eat there for me no matter what the occasion.
It would defintely have to be Joe’s Chocolate Shack Attack (6 layer chocolate cake) at Joe’s Crab Shack.
I don’t eat desserts at restaurants either – unless someone else is paying and they REALLY don’t care that I’m spending their money. That said, PF Changs has some great “shots” or cakes and desserts that are really yummy. I remember the tiramisu the most!
Definitely the banana cheesecake at the Cheesecake Factory.
For something that takes me back to my childhood, I’m going to have to go with Dairy Queen’s Crunch cone.
I love the Banana Bread Pudding at Encounters Restaurant at LAX. It’s “Roll-your-eyes-to-the-back-of-your-head”GOOD. (But I’m afraid they have recently discontinued it)
That’s easy… Cheesecake Factory Dulce De Leche Cheescake. And the whip cream… and those crunch nut things. Lots of both!!!
My nutritionist is NOT going to like me talking about this stuff. It’s all your fault.
Email: r (dot) burtz (at) gmail (dot) com
I love ALL desserts so it’s hard to pick JUST ONE! But I will, The White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake from Olive Garden. I was told that it’s actually from Cheesecake Factory? Wouldn’t surprise me… Hope I win!

ANY cheesecake off The Cheesecake Factory menu. I even just recently had their 30th anniversary cheesecake and it was heaven.
That looks amazing! I think my favorite dining out dessert (right now)would have to be a molten chocolate cake I had on Valentine’s day at Socorro Springs Brew Pub. The hot fudge was pretty darn good. (not as good as homemade, but ya know…)
I LOVE anything that has apple crip in the name. It also has to have vanilla ice cream on top.

Someone has already mentioned the Great Wall of Chocolate from PF Changs, but it’s definitely my favorite, too. Maybe just because you get enough dessert for the next four days, as well :)
Any cheese cake factory cheese cake!!
I am addicted to Desserts! There I said it. I pick a restaurant based on what goodies they are serving. All time favorite, hands down, would be…Apple Pie with ice cream! Otherwise, I am trying new things all the time. Anything with Chocolate or ice cream is also a sure winner. My heart is content with goodies. I will take anything!
Back in the day, I loved Fried Ice Cream from ChiChi’s. Now I rely on a good cinnamon fried ice cream or flan from a “reputable” local Mexican restaurant. Hhhhmmmmmmm.

Ok – the best desert – or the one that always conjures up the best memories is the brownie sundae from the Hard Rock Cafe. It could be the company I had, or that we all shared it and it was gone in approx. 4 seconds, but to this day – best dessert ever!
My favorite dessert was the Apple Chimi Cheesecake at Applebees. They had it for a long time, took it away, brought it back, and now I haven’t seen it in years. :(

I love eating out and dessert is the best part. If I go to Chili’s I can’t leave without the Molten Chocolate Cake. The chocolate cake at Macaroni Grill is to die for or the seasonal apple crisp with Haagan Daas Dulce de Leche ice cream on top. The best cheesecake I have ever had was at Junior’s in NYC – seriously better than Carnegie Deli. And you can’t go wrong with a Pizookie at BJ’s. Yeah, I love dessert!
A local restaurant, "Max & Erma's", has the most amazing warm, soft-baked chocolate chip cookies. You order them at the beginning of your meal, and when you're done, POW. Warm cookies. I'm telling you, the genius that came up with that idea should win a medal.
A chocolate chip Pazookie from BJs… DELICIOUS!
There’s this one little restaurant near where I grew up that my parents would take me to as a reward after orthodontist appointments. It was a ‘grown up’ place, and had the best dessert ever: chocolate pate. Basically just a slab of ganache with a few seasonal berries on top. Yum. yum yum yum. Now I want to go there!
The best dessert I’ve ever had in my life was a Fried Ice Cream when I was about 11 years old.. I was somewhere in AZ, Possibly the Scottsdale or Phoenix area… And I believe we were at a Mexican resturaunt… It was hot on the outside with a thick crunchy crust and a big scoop of vanilla ice cream on the inside… covered in caramel and nuts.. Favorite dessert: Molten Chocolate Cake at Grand Luxe Cafe. Too bad the service there normally stinks, because that dessert is to DIE for!

My favorite dessert out is a boring pineapple milkshake from Dairy Queen…with real pineapple chunks that get stuck in the straw. Awesome!
My absolute favorite dessert ever was from a restaurant, which is now shut down. It was called Johnson’s and was located in Leesburg, VA. The former owner’s wife used to make Chocolate Banana Cream pie and it was pure heaven. She, sadly, died awhile back and I have no doubt she took that recipe to her grave even though people used to beg for it.
I can’t even find anything remotely similar online to what she used to make. Ahh, it was amazing!
Perkins (anyone remember them) used to have the best brownie sundae. I found out from a friend who worked there they added peanut butter to their fudge sauce. It was yummy.

The best dessert I can remember was a flaming orange concoction at a restaurant in Columbia Mo about 20 years ago. I don’t remember the flavor – it was good – but I was with my (then future) husband for a rare dinner out while we were in grad school. We were recently engaged and enjoying ourselves immensely.

Since childhood, I have always loved deep fried ice cream, usually from Chinese or Japanese restaurants. The combination of the crunchy and hot tempura outside against the cold, creamy ice cream on the inside… so delicious!
My favorite dessert is from Taste of Texas, a one-of-a-kind restaurant here in Houston. (The best steak restaurant ever, I kid you not.) It’s this mousse concoction. It has a layer of dark chocolate mousse, toped with a layer of white chocolate mousse. The whole thing is covered in a thin layer of chocolate, and comes surrounded by a delicious rasberry sauce. So good!

My favorite dessert would have to be the dark chocolate fondue from the Melting Pot. There is just something about it that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
I think my all time favorite, restaurant dessert is fried ice cream. At pretty much any mexican restaurant, but I am a purist in that it must be topped with just honey and whipped cream, no fudge sauce or strawberries for me!
The Walnut Blondie with Maple Butter Sauce is one of my favorite deserts! I get it everytime at Applebees!
Toss up between Chili’s chocolate molten cake or strawberry cheesecake from anywhere!

The Dutch Apple Cheesecake at Cheesecake Factory…haven’t had it in years, but the fact that I still remember that one specifically definitely is a sign! Actually, I could go for one right now =)

I love the white chocolate macadamia nut cheesecake from Cheesecake Factory! Yum!
Oh, man,I LOVE dessert and rarely eat it out – something about how hard I worked to lose 80 pounds doesn’t mesh with dessert. BUT. I love, love love the Godiva Chocolate Cheesecake at Cheesecake Factory, OR the Banana dessert at PF Changs!
Thanks so much for the contest!

Banana cream cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory. It’s incredible!
I really like the Chocolate Bag at McCormick & Schmicks. It's a "bag" made out of chocolate filled with white chocolate mousse and fresh berries. Yum yum!
Okay, so probably not considered dining out… but I love McDonald’s french fries dipped in a chocolate milkshake, perfect yummy combo, hot-cold-salty-sweet!!
I have 2 favorites:
Pineapple Upsidedown cake cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory and Dark Chocolate fondue from the Melting Pot! Mmmmm
In Silver City, NM they hae this cafe called Diane’s. All of the desserts there rocked. They had this delicious chocolate cake and a white cake with fresh fruit and shaved almonds. Yum! I moved. I have not been able to find a white cake so delicious. They always use weird stuff to stick the fruit on and it ruins it!

My favorite desert ever is Indian Pudding with vanilla ice cream. I have only ever had it at Whimpy’s resturant in Osterville MA on Cape Cod. My grandmother lived there and as a kid that was where we went for a dinner out. Also four seas ice cream…mmmmmmmm. My mind is suddenly filled with images of all the deserts I love….
There is a local joint about 40 mins from where I live called Taggart Grill. They have the BEST desserts ever. We sometimes make the trip out their just for their desserts. They have a carrot cake to DIE for! Their cheesecakes are also so good!….Now I’m going to have to make the drive!
Homemade Oreos! I just gave the last one to my husband, it was a mojor sacrifice!

Oh man, that looks so tempting. I may have to try it out this coming weekend…
My favorite dessert is a pie from a small diner in Keane Valley, New York – Noon Mark Diner. Makes the best pie ever. We even had 20 different types at our reception instead of a wedding cake
