No, I haven’t taken up sewing. (Not yet anyway.) These adorable little buttons are all candy.
And, umm… they are like handmade.
Not by me, but remember my crazy talented, cupcake fanatic friend, Julie?
She made them for a friend’s baby shower using a fab tutorial from Bake it Pretty.
They are just about the cutest things I’ve ever seen.
The tutorial even includes a pdf for the labels so you can print them out at home and make your own packaging.
Julie made yellow, pink, green, orange and blue buttons with colored candy melts.
Just melt the candy and pour into a button mold. Let them dry and pop them right out.
Place them in small plastic bags and attach the labels. Just fold them in half and staple them together.
Or, if you’re crazy like Julie, then you make the labels work with your own wooden custom candy button display that your awesomely talented husband built for you.
Yeah, I’m sucking up in case he reads this and wants to make one for me, too.
So, instead of folding the labels in half, you can fold them in thirds. Two-thirds in front and one-third in the back so you have enough room to use a hole punch on the labels without messing up the graphics. And then just use a little double-sided tape to attach the labels to the bags.
Easy and like I said… cute as a button.
Julie also made these onesie sugar cookies for the shower. I’m gonna work on her to get this recipe because they were really good.

I really enjoy doing both! But I must say I enjoy the baking aspect more. While decorating is fun, the prettiness doesn’t last long when it’s on top of yummy treats :o) Not that my decorations ever really turn out very great (and I call myself an artist! well, cartoonist anyway).

baking is such therapy for me, along with the eating part. ;) and usually the people who receive my baked goods are grateful, whether stuff comes out perfectly, or not.
that said, if i just want to get down to decorating, i use instant stuff and focus on the other half, the decorating half. :)
Oh I LOVE to bake things, but I spend more time and enjoy making them pretty! I am already planning Valentines cookies for my daughter’s class at school, pretty enough for the girlies but not to cutesie so the 8 year old boys will eat them too!

OoOOooO…. good question. I like to bake on one day, and then make them look pretty the next day. Most of the time, by the time I get done baking, I’m too tired to decorate them the way I want them. Splitting them up yields better results!!

I’d rather make things look pretty than do the actual baking. I love figuring out unique and cute packaging and labels or making the items I pack in boxes look especially nice – I think eye appeal is very important because if no one is interested in sampling, they’ll never find out if your goodies have taste appeal.

I LOVE baking sweets because, even if it doesn’t always look amazing, it almost ALWAYS tastes great! Plus, the people I’m feeding won’t hesitate to dig in!

Making them look pretty! I do love the baking part (I almost always end up eating the raw batter or dough, so my second batches are always a little small..hehe!) but I just love the decorating part. There’s just so much you can do! Plus, I love when someone first sees something I’ve made and they just get giddy about how it looks. And when they find out it tastes good too, well that’s just icing on top of the cake! :)

Although I love making things pretty, I far more enjoy the “dirty” work of baking. I love getting my hands in the middle of the flour, butter, sugar, whatever. It feels like all is right in the world when I’m just in my kitchen creating.

I love to decorate sweets, and these candy molds are the cutest! I seriously hope they get more of those mustache molds in soon because I want to make some for Father’s Day!
I love these buttons! I can see two problems with them, though. ONE…having them in my sewing area and sewing one by mistake on a garment….hmmmm…a new edible clothing idea???

Living in Spain, I try to follow some of your steps (I love what you do!), but finding the right ingredients and utensils is difficult, so I tend to improvise a lot, and next up, I’m going to learn how to make marshmallow fondant!!
