No, I haven’t taken up sewing. (Not yet anyway.) These adorable little buttons are all candy.
And, umm… they are like handmade.
Not by me, but remember my crazy talented, cupcake fanatic friend, Julie?
She made them for a friend’s baby shower using a fab tutorial from Bake it Pretty.
They are just about the cutest things I’ve ever seen.
The tutorial even includes a pdf for the labels so you can print them out at home and make your own packaging.
Julie made yellow, pink, green, orange and blue buttons with colored candy melts.
Just melt the candy and pour into a button mold. Let them dry and pop them right out.
Place them in small plastic bags and attach the labels. Just fold them in half and staple them together.
Or, if you’re crazy like Julie, then you make the labels work with your own wooden custom candy button display that your awesomely talented husband built for you.
Yeah, I’m sucking up in case he reads this and wants to make one for me, too.
So, instead of folding the labels in half, you can fold them in thirds. Two-thirds in front and one-third in the back so you have enough room to use a hole punch on the labels without messing up the graphics. And then just use a little double-sided tape to attach the labels to the bags.
Easy and like I said… cute as a button.
Julie also made these onesie sugar cookies for the shower. I’m gonna work on her to get this recipe because they were really good.
Okay, back to buttons…
Here is the Candy Button Tutorial from Bakeitpretty.com.
Check out the site when you have some time. Cute stuff for baking AND for decorating!
Guess what else…?
The guys that run the site gave me a gift voucher code to shop at their store last year. I forgot I had it until Julie showed me these buttons and I remembered the email they sent me. I decided that since I had not used it yet, I wanted to give it away to one of you guys. Hopefully it still works. And if not, I’ll buy a new one for you. K?

That’s you, chakins! I’m glad you love to bake. Now, get shopping and start decorating.
baking them!
Well, baking them is my favorite part – mostly because that’s where the tasting comes in first. Also, I haven’t mastered the art of making them look as pretty as this web site yet, but I’m trying! Darling little buttons . . . .
Definitely making them look pretty. I’d go crazy if someone gave me a dozen plain sugar cookies or cupcakes!
I think I’m more of a baking it/making it taste good. If it’s pretty too, that’s great, but taste first.
I love making them pretty. I feel a need to make the world a better looking place, one baked treat at a time.
I love baking sweets more than decorating. I like the precise measuring & mixing but I also like throwing stuff in to see how it comes out. Yesterday, I made the mini pancake muffins from a few months ago and added 1/2 cup of blackberries instead of chocolate chips. They turned out awesome!
I’m still working on my decorating skills, I’m not very artsy!
Oh goodness! I love to bake, but I’m not always so good at making them pretty. Sometimes the best desserts are the messy, gooey ones… Like brownies filled with toffee-symphony bars with a big blob of melty birthday cake icing on top.
However, working at a bakery makes me appreciate how not just delicious, but beautiful baked treats can be. I just can’t be trusted with a bag of icing. I’d probably eat more than I would put on a cake!
I love to make the dough. Hate waiting for it to bake. But LOVE to decorate and eat them! Especially for a party or special event. Thanks for this fun and great giveaway! :)
I love making things look pretty, mainly cause I have a lot of back pain so standing and baking is hard, but I can sit and decorate.
I love baking because it’s waaaaay less stressful than making them look pretty! It’s so fun to decorate but sometimes it’s just not worth the stress.
Thanks! I love your blog.
Kendall
Baking the sweets! Because even when they turn out looking funny, they still taste oh so yummy!
Baking makes me happy, and when it looks pretty it makes it so much Better!
I love to bake, and making sure that the baked goods are delicious, then my favorite part is decorating them and making them LOOK as DELICIOUS as they taste!! :)
I like the making-pretty, but I have a bad tendency to rush through it!
Those buttons are just too cute! I must say that I enjoy baking the sweets more, I’m still practicing on making them look pretty ;]
Soooo cute!
I definitely enjoy baking treats more than making them look pretty. But I think thats the engineer in me-love baking cause you have to measure and follow directions. :)
I’m throwing my friends baby shower in 3 weeks-these buttons would be perfect. Thanks for sharing
I prefer to bake them, because I usually eat them before I have a chance to make them pretty.
DEFINITELY MAKING THEM LOOK PRETTY…I ACTUALLY COULD CARE LESS ABOUT THE ACTUAL BAKING PROCESS…TOO MUCH WAITING FOR ME!
ooooo. . .I enjoy so much baking the treats. . .while I love all the pretty — too good to eat lookign stuff, I am more of a realist. . .bake it with love and share it . . .right away. Usually right of out the baking dish! No time for fluff (unless the recipe calls) there is desert to eat!
I enjoy decorating more! the treat isn’t complete unless it’s pretty :)
Baking sweets, but I am a sucker for pretty treats.
I would love to make them pretty but I haven’t been brave enough to try yet!
I do love to sew and I love the buttons.
Baking. But after looking at ideas on here, I’m slowly leaning towards the making it pretty! Newly married with no kids yet, I certainly have the time to make everything look good!
I love decorating sweets! I am not super-adventurous in using recipes, but will spend tons of time embellishing cakes and cookies.
I love doing both but baking them is definitely better because it tastes yummy no matter how it looks
I like eating them best of course!
As much as I love baking them I think decorating them and making them pretty comes in first. After all, you tend to eat with your eyes first.
It has gotten so bad that I refuse to bring a cake to work in a pan… the always have to be at least two layers will GOOD and PRETTY frosting… or cupcakes, but with pretty frosting too, and cute liners… OMG I think it is a disease!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Definitely baking the sweets. Making them look pretty is always fun, but playing with flavors and textures in sweets is the best part.
Hands down…baking treats. I’ll leave the “making them pretty” to you.
Most def. making them look pretty. Gotta hook ’em then they actually have to eat it. =)
Thanks for all the cuteness! I especially need it on a Monday. What a sweet start to the week! Can’t wait for Valentine’s Day sweets. I’ll be watching for them! Thanks, Kristi
It’s a toss up, but I just love making things pretty!
baking them! then i get tired and have to muster up the energy to make them look cute. If only I had a professional food designer and photographer in my house… working for free… :)
making them look pretty!
Pretty all the way!
I LOVE baking the treats! It always amazes me how you can take raw ingredients and combine them to make something so yummy. Of course if the final product looks good, it is always a bonus!
Baking! Once they’re done, I can’t focus on anything else except for eating them. If they’re a pile of mush, they’re still beautiful to me (:
I love making things look pretty, but I love baking them too! Most of all I like seeing people enjoy my creations!
I love making them look pretty!
i like baking them best! although i really enjoy making gingerbread men look like anything but gingerbread men; ie: teenage mutant ninja turtle.
Baking! We don’t have a really good decor store in Indiana, so it’s hard to make them look pretty!
love, love, love the buttons!!! so cute!
I love baking the treats, but working on mastering making them look pretty.
You can’t have one without the other… I love baking AND making it pretty! :)
Definitely making them look pretty after they are out of the oven… but i do think it’s fun making the baked good.
I like both making them pretty and baking them.
I have made the cake balls twice now and have the stuff to make ones for Valentine’s day. Also I am going to try the peach crunch cake. Being a GA girl peaches are my favorite!!
. I just found the website Bakeitpretty.com the other day and just love the buttons. I called my daughter on the phone (she was home from work because of the snow ) to show her their stuff
Hope I win the gift certificate!
Making them look like the prettiest things ever, that’s my preference.
Baking things
I love doing both!!! Everything always tastes better when it is pretty!!!
hmmm…does “testing” the batter & the fresh-out-of-the-oven yummies count? i guess that puts me in the “making them” category. but i just love decorating to make them pretty to present. it’s fun when they taste good AND they’re eye-catching :o)
With my limited skills, all I can do is bake sweets. I’m amazed at all the beautiful creations on this site! Fabulous!
Hard to say which one I like best–I love baking them and making them pretty is well….absolutely necessary! I guess making them pretty is at the top of my list by a small margin. Love the buttons! So cute!
Hands down – I love making them look pretty!!!!!!!!!!!
Making them pretty! I very much like making things look pretty! Anything pretty is tasty too! (Well, hopefully )
mmm…hard choice. I love making things pretty…but if they don’t taste good, what’s the point? So, it’d have to be both :)
I love making them with the help of my kiddos (boys love baking also-well, taste testing) but I mostly love eating them.
Love doing it pretty!
i love making them look as cute as a button!:) the baking part is super fun, but i take pride in the finished product!:) thanks bakerella for such fun stuff every week and sharing your talents with us!:) we love it!:)
I love makng the sweets look pretty! Cute packaging & labels is my weakness!
I love making them look pretty and the look of appreciation on someone’s face when they see the finished product and say “wow, you made that for me? it’s too beautiful too eat, I love it!!!”
I would rather spend the time making something look pretty, or in my nephew’s last birthday cake’s case, like Darth Maul. Not exactly what I would categorize as “pretty”, but I had a great time icing it. Now if only I could get rid of my pesky day job, I could stop icing cakes until 2 in the morning. Things can get really interesting at that hour, and not always in a good way.
I like baking best – mostly because I’m better at making things taste good than making them pretty.
Well, I like to make them sweet but I would like to take the next step and learn to make them pretty.
I definitely enjoy baking first, then decorating….but of course eating them is the best part of all!!
making them look pretty!! =D
I love to bake…I try to make it look pretty but it doesnt always work but it does taste good..YUMMY!!
That is a hard question; I like both. I probably enjoy the baking a bit more, though decorating is fun. I do consider the baking a bit more important, though, because I hate when something looks fantastic but tastes terrible (false advertising, haha!).
I love baking them best but if I had even an oodle of your talent, I would love to make them purty too!!!!
Baking for sure – though I’m a better cook then a baker!
Hmmm…I love my baking to look pretty, and in an ideal world I get to have both. However, when it comes down to it, I will eat something that doesn’t look stellar, but I wouldn’t eat something that tasted bad!
Making them look pretty of course! =)
I enjoy food, I really enjoy good tasting food, but there’s something to be said for fantastic presentation that accompanies said food.
BOTH!! For sure, love everything about baking and am addicted to your site, I stubbled onto it last summer when my niece requested a ‘baby chick’ birthday cake and found your chickie cake pops… They were a huge hit!! I love seeing all your posts, they are so inspiring!!! Love this one, I’ll be throwing a shower soon and these will have to be attempted soooo cute:)
i like baking them best. But I love looking at other’s beautiful work. And then eating them are my most favorite part!
They have to look great . I think that is the OCD in me that takes over…but no matter how they look they always get eaten!!!
I dream of making sweets that look as pretty or cute as yours or Julie’s. I read about decorating them, I collect and pore through books on the subject. But in the end, I end up baking much more than decorating. And then giving away because by the time I’m finished the making of, I have no appetite for the eating of!
I love making them pretty for others to enjoy!
I enjoy the making better, because mine never turn out very pretty. :( They sure do taste good, though!
I enjoy making them pretty…AND baking them pretty!
umm…eating sweets is my favorite part!!! Other than that, I think making them look pretty…probablly why I love cakes so much!
i wish i could make them look pretty, so i am satisfied with making them and eating them!
I like the baking part a lot but I’m obsessed with making it look pretty. Even if it’s just cupcakes for work I will spend hours plotting the design and then decorating. I love it! Thank you so much for your great ideas and yummy photos!!!
I much prefer to bake the sweets, too much work to make them pretty and then be gobbled up:) Thanks to pretty things like these buttons, the job is easier. Pick me:)
I love both…I actually get gratification from both….love the oohs and aahs when people “see” the pretty but love the yummys when they “taste” the yummyness!
Well, if I was artistic in any way, shape, or form, I would say that I would like making things pretty, but I’m not, so I guess I wouuld have to say that I am best at baking them.
I love the whole creative process…reading the recipe, mixing and baking, and the decorating. But I do have a reputation at work. When there are treats in the office, I’ve overheard “they’re not Pat’s or there’d be more frosting, a decoration AND they’d be on a cake stand with a descriptive sign”…Guilty as charged.
I love baking sweets… and eating them. :)
I’m a plain baker. No frosting. I do like my cookies all uniformly sized and shaped though.
I like both just as much! For me baking is always a two step process, first baking the sweet treats and then decorating them so that they look even more delicious and tasty!
Baking them…still working on the making them pretty!
Everything is so cute! Baking! I am horrible at making them look pretty. I would do one cookie like that, and then give up!
pretty :)
Making them look pretty!!!
I like to bake the sweets. I usually run out of steam by the time the decorating part comes up.
I love baking them — but it’s so much fun to make them look pretty. So — it’s hard to choose.
Definitely making them look pretty! So funny, I JUST saw these on Bake it Pretty last night! Love your blog, so happy I found it :) xo
I can’t wait to think of something to decorate with these! Thanks for sharing.
I love cute things, but with 4 children under 8, we go for the taste
I enjoy making them look pretty more =) Decorating is the best part! Sometimes if my baking endeavors didn’t turn out so well..then at least I can make up for it by prettifying it ;D
super cute… it’s amazing the things we can make out of anything nowadays. love the buttons.
Baking them!!
I love making things look pretty! Fun baby shower ideas…i’m going to need them soon!
I just love the onsies cookies…. I’ve been thinking about making sugar cookies for Valentines day and this just motivated me to do so!!! Thanks so much for your cute blog!!!
I love baking sweets but also like to make them look pretty. I decorate cookies through the inspiration of my very dear friend Marian – http://www.sweetopia.net She makes all of her cookies look as “cute as a button”
MAKING THEM PRETTY, OF COURSE!!! That’s the most fun thing about creating these confections…. getting to put your creativity and personality into it. =]
I definitely enjoy making my sweets look pretty, but it’s always nice if they taste good too. I’ve bought a few things from bake it pretty and would love a TON more!
I love baking beautiful things and could seriously put the voucher code to good sweet use!
Well, eating the sweets is my first first love…but I guess from your choices I would say making them.
Sara
Ooh toughie! I think making everything pretty though I admit after I cook/bake Im usually too tired to even think about decorating =P
I love these! I like making things look pretty, but need more practice at it.
i think i enjoy making things pretty less than the actual labor or baking them :) thanks for the shot you ROCK :)
I love the baking part! I always get rushed while making things pretty and they never end up the way i want… but they always taste good!
wow! wow! wow! Thanks so much Bakerella for showing us this site and your friends so cute ideas!!! that is a super cute and super unique idea for baby showers and i love that bakeitpretty sells the molds too! i just love to make my sweets pretty!
Cool! I love decorating. Cakes are my favorite. I made a New Years cake that was a blast for my family. I love to bake too, but its always funner(that doesn’t sound right) to decorate. I mean after all, you can lick your fingers when you’re done. And you can make it a four frosting layer cake. Or really sugary decorated cookies, but I think I’ll go now, so as to not bore you.
claire
I prefer baking them, and find making them pretty more of a bonus!
I love the baking part! Especially when baking cookies. Eating raw dough, rolling out the dough and trying to cut out as many figures as possible at the same time….. :-) It feels like I can be a kid again :-)
I love baking things more than decorating if they’re just for myself or my immediate family. Special occasions, well, I might put in a bit more effort!
l love to do both!!
Baking them – if I have the time (and money), I’ll make the extra effort to making them look pretty!
They have to be GOOD first…but presentation is important also! Hard choice. I like to bake and also make it “pretty”…
I can’t choose between the two, because I LOVE both! They both bring me joy, and they’re both my ways of being artsy!!!!
Oh man, bakig or decorating…. probably baking is my favourite. Decorating is great, too, but you can’t decorate it unless you bake it first!
I love making sweets! And eating them is just a bonus… but I do like making them look cute… when it is a gift and not just me gobbling them up!
I aim for both, but I really like making them look pretty :)
Cute buttons. If I start eating these buttons, I will be popping buttons off my pants! So cute!
I like baking sweets, the making them look pretty always ends up frustrating me.
Baking for sure…. Try as I might making them pretty just doesn’t work out the way I imagine it should.
I love the baking part the best, especially the tasting of the dough or batter! Decorating is fun too, but I still can’t make them “pretty”.
It’s hard to say which I like more. If I’m desperate to taste-test then the prettiness doesn’t matter to me. But I do like to pretty it up for others.
i think i would have to say baking the treats… making them pretty is always just a bonus :)
Making them look pretty, but, often times than not, it turns out to be an epic failure…
I need more practice for sure!
I love making them look pretty. In fact I just made your cupcake cake bites for a jewelry party I’m having tonight :)
my favorite thing is bake all these sweets and eat them, hugs and kisses
I enjoy baking more and wish I was creative enough to make them look pretty.
Making them pretty! Definitely!
I love to bake sweets, but seeing your website makes me want to learn how to make them pretty!
That’s hard ‘cuz I love to eat ’em! But I love to make ’em look pretty even more!
These are just some of the most charming tiny things I’ve ever seen. I have a particular soft spot for pastel buttons, for my Mammaw had a very large collection, most still on the cards, but she never did throw away a garment with buttons still attached.
I enjoy baking them, I am not good at making them look pretty, although I try!
My favorite is eating them, but of your options – I pick baking!
I just love baking … but when you love doing something you always want to make it look pretty too.
I love baking, and I’d love to be able to make them pretty but I tend to get a little too excited about getting them finished so I skip the pretty part. Someday I’ll find the patience though. :)
Oh my stars! How cute are those?! I have zero creativity and talent when it comes to decorating sweets, so I’ll have to say I’m better at baking them!
Baking! Because you can always eat the mistakes, before you invest all the time to make the pretty ;)
Definitely making them look pretty! Thanks for the giveaway opportunity! Love your site!
Making them look pretty is important, but tasty to eat is the best. :)
I love things that look pretty…but I enjoy the baking part the best. Probably because I am good at baking and still working on the whole looking pretty part. :)
I have to say both. I LOVE making cute little sweets (I’m working on a small cake & cuppies for a baby shower this weekend) but if they don’t taste as good (or better) than they look, what’s the point? And sometimes, I just want to make something that tastes incredible and who cares what it looks like.
making them is so fun, but enjoying the yummy fruits of my labor is best!
making them look pretty! :-)
So cute! I much prefer baking than making them look pretty!
What a great question! I enjoy baking a lot and trying new sweets, but I also love to make them pretty and see the face of the one that is getting it. That is so priceless. Bakerella, great findings!
Baking the sweets is much more fun! Maybe because I’m still not so great at decorating them :(
I love those buttons and the onsie cookies are so cute!! Thanks Bakerella for everything you share!!
I love baking and making pretty things more than eating them. I get pleasure out of just creating.
Baking
I really like making them look pretty, now if only I was better at it. :)
the ladies in my homeschool group just bought me a sewing machine. these would be great to use as a thank you desert
I think these are adorable! i got into cake decorating about 6 months ago and have really enjoyed it! i would love to start doing a little candy art to add to my cakes! this looks so fun!
I like TRYING to make them look pretty…but enjoy eating more!!! :)
I love making them look pretty, and I love finding the inspirations on blogs like yours. I may not be able to come up with the ideas, but I can recreate them pretty well! :)
I like making them look pretty! The baking is fun to though… I like making new icing types that help make them look pretty!
It used to be baking the sweets, but more recently I’ve become OBSESSED with decorating them. It’s more of an addiction really.
I love baking them. ‘Cause I’m not so skilled at making them look pretty.
I love baking them! I’m not too good at making them pretty although I try. : )
I love the whole process of baking, and the wonderful smells it creates! I make other things look pretty with clay or paint; it always breaks my heart to make something edible AND pretty; it never lasts! I’d rather concentrate on making something delicious.
Would sooooo love this!!!! I love eating and baking and I guess doing it all!!!
I have five kids (we just adopted our youngest after adopting her bio sisters 3 years ago) and I love to bake yummies for them. They don’t care if they look cute so usually they are normally nice looking, but I love to come here and get inspired to make cute, cute, cute stuff. I even tried cake and cookie balls …. the cookie balls got eaten up faster! :-)
Making them look pretty!! Baking is the work and decorating is the fun.
Adorable! Different and fun shower favor.
I love making them look goo because then when you finish you look at them and get this deep sense of accomplishment! You made that! But what I really LOVE is EATING the finished product, what could be better than that??
How could I possible choose?! I guess baking sweets, cause who cares, besides my crazy sis, if they’re pretty if they taste nasty!!
BOTH! I love making sweets and goodies and if they are pretty, its a bonus! I love it when people tell me how talented I am, I just say, “you should visit Bakerella.com”!!!!
both. lame answer, right? But really I like making them look cute for whoever I am giving them to and for me, it doesn’t matter I just like baking them. :)
Eating them! though decorating is nearly half the pleasure :)
I love to bake sweets. I would love to decorate them and make the look pretty, but I am too quick to eat them and don’t always succeed in the pretty department.
I love to bake…but I do get the most satisfaction when everything comes out pretty. So if it’s yummy AND pretty, I’m in heaven :D
pick me!
I like both! But I guess I would have to say baking them, because I only take the time to make them look really pretty when I have an opportunity to show off – like taking it to a pot luck or party of some sort. If they’re just for home consumption I don’t bother fancy-ing my desserts up.
I used to make everything really pretty and that was a really important aspect of the project for me. Now with three teen boys and a husband who doesn’t notice “pretty” I make my baked goods scrumptious and nice looking. Pretty has fallen by the wayside.
Sadly, they think when I make it pretty it’s for me. That said, I braid my loaves, lattice top my pies and decorate my cookies – I’m not a total barbarian. (Just kidding on the barbarian comment)
Well, eating them is actually my favorite part, but I do enjoy making them look pretty. I’m not great at it, but it sure is fun to try!
I love looking at all the ways to beautify baked goods but usually I just get lazy and bake something easy. My daughter’s 8th birthday party is coming up though and it’s a dog party so I’m going to attempt your dog cake pops…wish me luck!
Baking! Because you can taste everything along the way :-) Plus making things look pretty gets my slightly stressed out.
I love eating sweets the most, but since that wasn’t a choice, I would have to say baking them. I would really like to get better at making them pretty too.
I definitely like baking. When it comes to making treats look pretty, I am smart enough to step back and let someone else take the lead!
I really enjoy the entire process but I think dressing them up is fun because my 6yo son likes to help me.
Making them pretty is certainly nice, but I absolutely love the baking part!
Definitely baking. Have to take the time to make it taste wonderful otherwise making it pretty would make no sense. Why even bother making them look pretty if what you are making tasted like crap?
Definitely making them look pretty!!! I can’t wait til my kids are older and I can really out some time into it!
I love making them look pretty! I could spend hours making sure it looks “just” right.
With a 4 year old who likes to help in the kitchen, “pretty” has gone out the window. Baking in definitely the best part anyway! :)
These are too cute! I wish I had seen these when I threw my sister’s baby shower! Ah, well, maybe for the next one :)
Those buttons are adorable! As much as I enjoy baking (cookies, cakes, brownies, etc), I really enjoy making things pretty. I enjoy making custom cakes for friends and family.
I would have to say baking them! But making them pretty is super fun too! Hmmm tough choice!
Can I say eat them? No? Okay. Then baking them, because I’m not so great at the making them pretty part.
I love baking but making it look pretty!
you put all this work into it & it just looks so pretty
the person or persons you give it to get so excited & its
than you know all your hard work paid off! I been trying all your
little desserts but slowly && its amazing!! keep it up!
Well, hard to choose but I’d probably say that making them taste great has to be first. They need to taste as good as they look, right?
i love baking sweets. I would love to learn to make them pretty as well!
Well if eating sweets is not an option I guess baking them is what I prefer… At least that is what I am better at! I’m not great at the making them look pretty part, although I wish I was!
I do better at baking sweets. It always takes me so many tries to make them look pretty, and I don’t want to give the ugly ones away!
