Christmas and some cookies

Okay… finally, the post from last weekend. My camera never did wake up by the way. But I did manage to get all the photos off using a friend’s card reader. Yay! Unfortunately, no built in card readers on my printer or computer… Boo!

And, I would have posted this last night, but I spent the evening at Pioneer Woman’s book signing in Atlanta. Fun! Fun! More on that soon. Thankfully, I did have a working camera with me for that. A brand new Canon Digital Rebel XSi that I borrowed. It’s nice having generous friends. But, I kinda wish I hadn’t started using it. I might not be able to give it back. Bigger screen, More megapixels. And I’ve convinced myself the photo quality is far superior. It is. I know it is. Maybe my camera will be unfixable. Is that a word?

Anyway, here’s the goods or goodies from last weekend.

It’s coming up on Christmas, so I wanted to make some decorated sugar cookies. But I didn’t really want to make traditional Christmas shapes. So instead, I used a cute little cupcake cutter I recently bought. I also went with a less than traditional color scheme and chocolate sugar cookies to help make the colors pop.

Cookies

I love sugar cookies. Too bad I love them more than they love me. I’m still trying to perfect my piping. I will not give up. I will have non-lumpy lines one day.

Cookies

These were two of the better ones.

Cookies

These … not so much. But squint and they’ll look better.

Snowflake Sprinkles

See …… Okay, I’m kidding. I kid. These are the good ones. Well, the better ones anyway.

Mess

It helps to plan ahead when you work with royal icing. Draw out the colors you want for borders and the colors you want to fill with in advance.

Cookies

The cookie recipe is from the book, Cookie Craft. Get a copy if you have any desire to learn how to make these kind of decorated cookies. It’s jam-packed with tips and tricks.

Or maybe you’ll win this.

Cookie Stuff

Yes, the original Cookie Craft came out with a mini Cookie Craft Christmas book.

Christmas Craft

Also with recipes, ideas, and tips. It’s very cute. And small, which you know I like.

Cupcake Cookie Cutters

You’ll also get this cute 2-piece cupcake cookie cutter set. Love it!

Cupcake Stencils

And some cupcake stencils. You can use these on cookies, too.

Cake Tester

A cupcake-shaped cake tester. This totally unnecessary utensil was too cute to pass up.

Mini Cupcake Spatulas

And so were these mini spatulas. I bought all the goodies (except for the cookie book I picked up at the bookstore) from Crate & Barrel if you want to look them up. I like finding cute things. Hope you like them, too.

Stuffed

And it all comes stuffed in a sparkly stocking.

Enter to win it all.

  • Just leave a comment on this post and tell me what you want this Christmas. Big or small. Silly or Serious. Let’s share.
  • Me first… I want to spend time with all my family. Laughing. Hugging. Eating. And I want to take lots of pictures of them with my brand new, big, shiny camera. Yeah, that sounds good.
  • Deadline to enter is Wednesday, December 9 at 7:00 pm ET.TIME’S UP!
  • Winner selected at random and announced sometime Wednesday evening on this post.

Good luck.

Winner.
We have a winner. And it’s a high number this time.

#5935 – YAY CAROLINE! Hope you like the stocking full of stuff and hope you get that immersion blender, too.
cookiecraftwinner

And everyone else that entered. Thank you for sharing your Christmas wishes. I’ve smiled and cried multiple times reading through them. Some really important ones out there. I hope you get them granted. Hugs to you all.

  40. This Christmas, I want everyone to experience the joy they felt as a child. Naive though it sounds, this is my favorite part about Christmas. I really just want everyone to be happy, and believe in the holiday magic, and all that jazz. So c’mon guys… turn up the Christmas music, watch some twinkling lights, and sip some egg-nog (and now that we’re “grown-ups” it can be spiked with some irish cream – delish). Just let all of that sickeningly sweet holiday cheer overwhelm you. Merry Christmas y’all.

  161. I’d like a gel floormat for the kitchen so I can stand to stand for longer periods of time without a backache!

  162. For Christmas I want me & my family to be OK. I want things to get better for all of us. We’ve all had a really bad year where the only thing that has gone right is the fact that my little girl was born happy & healthy. (Which I’m VERY thankful for, don’t get me wrong, I love my little angel) But man does my family ever need a break. My dad lost his job, mom lost 2 of her jobs & lost her apartment. My husband & I lost our place only a month before I gave birth. My mother-in-law has gone off the deep end & cares more about her new boyfriend & money than the fact that her son & grand daughter are homeless. Mother-in-law had her brother haul off our dog so he was MIA for a month after I had the baby. We finally got him back but he ended up having to stay at a friends house & she wasn’t taking care of him properly & he got hit by a semi truck last month, we don’t think he made it, we haven’t been able to find him anywhere. We’re having to try & find a home for our female dog now because the person who was keeping her doesn’t want to anymore. Lastnight my friend who was cat sitting told me I have to come get her because she doesn’t wanna deal either. So not only did one of our pets die but now we’re going to be forced to give up the other two. My stepdad passed away over the summer. And it’s been total hell trying to get my little girl on peachcare & WIC. It just seems like nothing can ever be simple. Now my husband’s looking into going over to Iraq to work for a year because the pay is great & we could pay off all of our debts in a year if he gets the job. I am terrified about him going over there but the money would help us out so much. So this has been a pretty bad year for my family, for Christmas I’d love to win the lottery so I can give everyone money & take all that financial burden away, so that we can just spend time with each other & enjoy watching my little girl grow up.

  163. I want HOPE for a New Year with New Possibilities. The cookies are incredibly adorable.

  164. All I want for Christmas is my husband to be home and have all the family together. I suppose any cake/cookie/cupcake or baking item stuffed in my stocking wouldn’t hurt either ! :)

  165. I want my apartment to magically clean itself!

  166. I want my baby to have a great Christmas. This is the first year he will have a clue as to what is going on. I can’t wait to see him so excited for all the new toys.

  167. I would love to go on a mission trip!

  168. If money were no problem, i would love to wake up christmas morning to a new car with a big, shiny red bow on top. :)
    Dream big….

  169. I really want my Kitchenaid Pro mixer that i have been envying for months now!!! I am hoping that if i dont get it, I get enough gift cards to cover :o)

  170. I would love this prize so I can make pretty cookies with my sweet little girl! She has been asking to make some cookies :)

  171. I would like a new job!

  172. I want an all expense paid trip to NYC for Christmas! :)

  173. Such cute cookies!

I want to spend time with family. We’ve been blessed with many miracles this year, so we are so happy and thankful that family members are on their way to recovery. I’m also looking forward to spending our first Christmas together with my husband.

  174. I, too, am looking forward to spending some time with my family and I’ve been wanting a Cricut machine!

  175. Hi! I’m 16, love to bake, and love your blog!
This Christmas I want my dad to be able to not have to work at all. We live overseas because of his job, and he’s always working. I hope that this Christmas we can have just family time.
    Thanks for your weekly posts!!
    Sasha

  176. I want some new cookie sheets to bake with, a rolling pin, and a good mat to roll dough on….oh and a bigger area to work on in the kitchen. I’m not asking for too much am I? :)

  177. I want to spend time with my brother who is coming over to visit me in England while I’m on a year exchange teaching. I can’t wait to relax with him and enjoy time together. I would love it if all my friends in Berkley, Michigan could come and visit!

  178. I want to find out that my husband will not be leaving for another deployment next year! (he’s a soldier) Sorry, that might sound bad since it is his job but I am selfish and want him home with our kids!!

  179. Spending time with family and friends. I really have been wanting to trade my SUV, but it looks like we’ll be replacing my hubbys truck first. It caught fire Monday night and burned. But no one was hurt and it didn’t catch the house on fire either.

  180. Adorable Cookies!

All I want for Christmas is for my babies to be happy!

  181. I just want a little happiness, this year has been a rough one. Your sugar cookies are sooo cute! They make me smile :)

  182. Time spent with family and friends!

  183. I would love an opportunity to be able to stay home with my kiddos!

  184. All I want for Christmas this year is ………
news that a grandbaby is on the way!

  185. i want to spend time with my family this christmas and watch the joy and excitement of the little ones as they open their presents!

  186. I am a photography enthusiast and I want to take tons of pictures of my kids (one in college and one in high school) and my niece and nephew (both in college) at Disney World! We haven’t been in several years and my sister and I and our husbands are taking them one more time before they are all grown up and don’t want to go with us anymore! I miss their little kid days and bringing them to Disney World makes us all kids again. Spending this special time with my sister and our families… that is going to be all I need for Christmas. But the supplies to make these adorable cookies would be a wonderful surprise! :)

  187. I want a really nice camera like the one you use!! :)

  188. I want a peaceful, relaxing Christmas break with dh and our 5 kids, with no bickering and a clean house. Is that asking too much?
Other than that, would love a serger, but just can’t seem to justify spending that kind of money on myself.
I’d love your lovely filled stocking though. :)

  189. Oh, my goodness!! So gorgeous…..love these cookies!!

The main thing that I want every year for Christmas I have been blessed enough to get every year is a healthy and happy family. I would like to get some new crafty stuff, too, this year! This awesome prize would be a good start! : )

  190. I really want a food processor and some new cook books!

  191. I’d love to have a Christmas where I don’t feel obligated to spend a lot of money and can just enjoy the season with family.

But I certainly wouldn’t say no to a new food processor. ;)

  192. i would like new running shoes to run off all these delicious baked treats i’ll be making i mean eating!!! merry christmas, bakerella!

  193. i want to have an amazing trip with my boyfriend to victoria!

btw, i loved how your cookies turned out – amazing!

  194. I want an extra hour in each day. Is that too much to ask? I’d actually like that *before* Christmas, but I’ll take it after!

  198. So sorry about your camera – glad you were able to save the pics. I’m with you, I’d love a big new shiny camera for Christmas, but I’ve already gotten my gift, the Hubs and I went on a Mediterranean Cruise last month! So I will look forward to enjoying the spirit of Christmas with the family.

  199. Time with the person I most.

  200. I would like for my 8 month old to stop trying to pull the Christmas tree over on top of himself and to stop slinging presents around by their bow… It is cute though and makes for great excercise.. Hmmmm! Maybe all of that excercise will x out all of the Christmas goodies I want to eat!
