Christmas and some cookies

Okay… finally, the post from last weekend. My camera never did wake up by the way. But I did manage to get all the photos off using a friend’s card reader. Yay! Unfortunately, no built in card readers on my printer or computer… Boo!

And, I would have posted this last night, but I spent the evening at Pioneer Woman’s book signing in Atlanta. Fun! Fun! More on that soon. Thankfully, I did have a working camera with me for that. A brand new Canon Digital Rebel XSi that I borrowed. It’s nice having generous friends. But, I kinda wish I hadn’t started using it. I might not be able to give it back. Bigger screen, More megapixels. And I’ve convinced myself the photo quality is far superior. It is. I know it is. Maybe my camera will be unfixable. Is that a word?

Anyway, here’s the goods or goodies from last weekend.

It’s coming up on Christmas, so I wanted to make some decorated sugar cookies. But I didn’t really want to make traditional Christmas shapes. So instead, I used a cute little cupcake cutter I recently bought. I also went with a less than traditional color scheme and chocolate sugar cookies to help make the colors pop.

Cookies

I love sugar cookies. Too bad I love them more than they love me. I’m still trying to perfect my piping. I will not give up. I will have non-lumpy lines one day.

Cookies

These were two of the better ones.

Cookies

These … not so much. But squint and they’ll look better.

Snowflake Sprinkles

See …… Okay, I’m kidding. I kid. These are the good ones. Well, the better ones anyway.

Mess

It helps to plan ahead when you work with royal icing. Draw out the colors you want for borders and the colors you want to fill with in advance.

Cookies

The cookie recipe is from the book, Cookie Craft. Get a copy if you have any desire to learn how to make these kind of decorated cookies. It’s jam-packed with tips and tricks.

Or maybe you’ll win this.

Cookie Stuff

Yes, the original Cookie Craft came out with a mini Cookie Craft Christmas book.

Christmas Craft

Also with recipes, ideas, and tips. It’s very cute. And small, which you know I like.

Cupcake Cookie Cutters

You’ll also get this cute 2-piece cupcake cookie cutter set. Love it!

Cupcake Stencils

And some cupcake stencils. You can use these on cookies, too.

Cake Tester

A cupcake-shaped cake tester. This totally unnecessary utensil was too cute to pass up.

Mini Cupcake Spatulas

And so were these mini spatulas. I bought all the goodies (except for the cookie book I picked up at the bookstore) from Crate & Barrel if you want to look them up. I like finding cute things. Hope you like them, too.

Stuffed

And it all comes stuffed in a sparkly stocking.

Enter to win it all.

  • Just leave a comment on this post and tell me what you want this Christmas. Big or small. Silly or Serious. Let’s share.

  • Deadline to enter is Wednesday, December 9 at 7:00 pm ET.TIME’S UP!
  • Winner selected at random and announced sometime Wednesday evening on this post.

Good luck.

Winner.
We have a winner. And it’s a high number this time.

#5935 – YAY CAROLINE! Hope you like the stocking full of stuff and hope you get that immersion blender, too.
cookiecraftwinner

And everyone else that entered. Thank you for sharing your Christmas wishes. I’ve smiled and cried multiple times reading through them. Some really important ones out there. I hope you get them granted. Hugs to you all.

All I want for Christmas this year is for my husband to find a steady, decent paying job that he will enjoy. He lost his former job a few weeks ago and it is starting to wear on him. Money is getting tight and there are no job prospects as of yet. So no Christmas present shopping for me this year. Luckily, that is the biggest thing we have to worry about. We are healthy and have a roof over our heads with our cuddly kittys. Not everyone is so lucky. I feel blessed for what I do have.
Good luck to all & Merry Christmas!

  73. My wish is not funny or cute – all I want is to feel better. I have been unable to work for almost 5 years (which includes “fun” work like all my crafts!). I had back surgery a year ago and started to feel better – but it didn’t last. I recently returned to the doctor for a one year recheck, they did x-rays. Then I learned why I was feeling so crappy again – the screws in my back from the surgery are all broken!

I’m looking at another surgery, a much more extensive surgery, after the first of the year. I’m very scared, and depressed. I just want to feel better!

I love to cook, baking is my favorite – especially cookies. I worked, most of my life, as a cake decorator. I used to make beautiful cookie trays for Christmas. I could sell them as fast as I made them, and my friends loved getting them as gifts. I hope to be able to do that again next year. It would help me to be able to pay some of my enormous medical bills, plus do something I love at the same time! I would love this book, and definately put it to good use!

When the depression gets really bad I pull out all of my craft books – and DREAM OF BETTER TIMES, AND THE FUTURE!

  74. I have the canon rebel XSi and love it, but guess what they have a new rebel that is 15 megapixels and takes video. I wouldn’t mind that for christmas. I love your cookies they are so cute. I love cupcakes.

  76. I really, really, really want some time to relax! I’ve been working 60-70 hour work weeks almost all year. Not only am I tired, I haven’t had a chance to make nearly as many minis as I wanted to! The only material thing I want is a flat screen TV but Santa already said I’d have to wait another year! :)

  77. For Christmas I want to spend the day with my husband and 2 boys. Watching Christmas movies, eating yummy cinnamon rolls and staying in our pajamas all day. 79. Spending more time with my husband and girls are always #1 in my list. Although I want to hear from an offer we put on a house, before the year ends. Happy holidays everyone!

I had it on a shopping day instead of my small “diaper bag camera” becuase I’d slammed the diaper bag camera in my car door and broke it a few weeks before that. 151. I want to just spend time with my family. We are scattered all over and rarely do we have time to be together. I don’t need presents, just their presence :)

  152. Now I want this cook book and cookie cutters for Christmas. You do such an amazing job on your creations, you inspire me every time I receive your news letter. I’ve never been much of a sugar cookie fan, but this might turn me into one. I can’t wait to get the book to make cookies that don’t spread out when they bake! :)

Thanks for sharing your recipes and tips. You make me look like I know what I’m doing! hee hee.

  153. I want to take my family on a trip somewhere warm!

  154. My husband and I never had a chance to go on our honeymoon. It would be wonderful to escape the cold weather and head over to Hawaii!

  155. Absolutely to spend time with my family, that is the most important thing… And to be able to put aside the worry about money and paying bills, if not for just one day.

  156. 14 cup Cuisinart Food Processor!

  157. I want to spend good times with my family! This is the year my girls and I are going to try the cookies you ice like your post – perfect timing – wish us luck!

  158. That is just so freakin’ adorable!!

  164. These cookies look way too good to eat! For Christmas I want clothes! We just bought a house so lately all our money so into house items and no fun stuff like clothes. And this cookbook would be a nice addition! :)

  165. All I want for Christmas is to spend time with my new husband and my mum. She got poorly three days before my wedding three months ago and as a result I haven’t had much time for my new husband. It has made my realise that all that matters at times like this are the ones you love.

  166. I want to spend time with my family and for everyone to be well and healthy. I also want an immersion blender – no more soup on the ceiling!

  169. I in fact want a Canon Digital Rebel XSi…I want one SO bad!

  170. I want for my daughter’s best friend’s father to be able to come home for Christmas. He is deployed in Afganistan (sp) and she misses him terribly. My hear just goes out to her when she gets really down and this would be the best gift for all around.

  171. I want a day just to look at my family and enjoy their happiness but on the less sentimental side…I wold love a couple months of housecleaning services or a new dishwasher. I’m so practical. :-)

  176. This Christmas having moved away, I can’t wait to return home to see my two beautiful nieces!

  177. For Christmas I’d love to have a nice vacation with no laptops or blackberry involved. :-)

  178. I’m looking forward to watching my kids opening their gifts and spending time as a family. As for a gift, my husband got me Photoshop, and I couldn’t wait untl Christmas to start playing with it.

  179. Me and my little girls would love making these. So cute and fun!

  180. I would like someone to do all my household chores for me for just a couple days so I can do something I enjoy and not have to worry about stuff getting done.

  181. A VACATION —-SOMEWHERE WARM!!

  182. i would really like a new camera lens. the one i wan is $600 though. so i don’t think i’ll get it. but the realistic thing i want is a new watch.

i saw the christmas cookie craft book at the store. it looks so cute! i bought the first one and found their ideas adorable. i’m looking forward to doing some more decorating. :)

  183. I am behind the times and really want an ITouch for Christmas and to get some good pictures of the family this year.

  184. I just moved to Cleveland from Washington, DC and I’m hoping it doesn’t snow so my boyfriend and I can drive home to see my family for Christmas, but with Cleveland weather, who knows!

Also, just wanted to say my favorite thing to bake are cupcakes and I’ve just recently been trying out cookie recipes. The mix of cupcakes and cookies…fantastic! Yours are so cute!

  185. me.. me.. me.. pick meeeeee!!!!!!!

  186. I want several things that are good and noble and not-really-givable. My top wish on my Christmas list is a DVR. We’re still taping shows we’re going to miss with a VCR that doesn’t have a remote, and we can’t tape one thing and watch another because of our cable. *sigh*

Love your site! You make such cute things!

  187. My wish for Christmas is spending time, filled with laughter and long-lasting memories, with family! Safe travels, too, for all those traveling….here in MN we are currently being hit with our first major winter storm! Lots of snow, wind, and cold!

In addition to the cookies, I’d like a glass of milk and a nap. :)

  192. I would like a Wilton cake decorator’s supply box to organize all my goodies!

  193. I am blessed with so much this Christmas that I really cannot ask for more….My family, my children, my friends, my sweet hubby and we we have our health! What more can I ask for? :)

  194. I would like to get a new camera since mine broke but what I love the most is simply watching my friends and family open the gifts I purchased or especially the ones I’ve worked so lovingly on for them.

  195. I want a few things but the tops of my list are a treadmill and Photoshop. Neither of which are going to happen, I’m afraid.

  196. This Christmas, I want to spend some stress-free time with my boyfriend. We both work retail, and it is very easy to hate the holiday season after you’ve been abused day by customers for days on end. This year, I want a happy Christmas, free from worry and full of enjoyment in just being together.
