Christmas and some cookies

Okay… finally, the post from last weekend. My camera never did wake up by the way. But I did manage to get all the photos off using a friend’s card reader. Yay! Unfortunately, no built in card readers on my printer or computer… Boo!

And, I would have posted this last night, but I spent the evening at Pioneer Woman’s book signing in Atlanta. Fun! Fun! More on that soon. Thankfully, I did have a working camera with me for that. A brand new Canon Digital Rebel XSi that I borrowed. It’s nice having generous friends. But, I kinda wish I hadn’t started using it. I might not be able to give it back. Bigger screen, More megapixels. And I’ve convinced myself the photo quality is far superior. It is. I know it is. Maybe my camera will be unfixable. Is that a word?

Anyway, here’s the goods or goodies from last weekend.

It’s coming up on Christmas, so I wanted to make some decorated sugar cookies. But I didn’t really want to make traditional Christmas shapes. So instead, I used a cute little cupcake cutter I recently bought. I also went with a less than traditional color scheme and chocolate sugar cookies to help make the colors pop.

Cookies

I love sugar cookies. Too bad I love them more than they love me. I’m still trying to perfect my piping. I will not give up. I will have non-lumpy lines one day.

Cookies

These were two of the better ones.

Cookies

These … not so much. But squint and they’ll look better.

Snowflake Sprinkles

See …… Okay, I’m kidding. I kid. These are the good ones. Well, the better ones anyway.

Mess

It helps to plan ahead when you work with royal icing. Draw out the colors you want for borders and the colors you want to fill with in advance.

Cookies

The cookie recipe is from the book, Cookie Craft. Get a copy if you have any desire to learn how to make these kind of decorated cookies. It’s jam-packed with tips and tricks.

Or maybe you’ll win this.

Cookie Stuff

Yes, the original Cookie Craft came out with a mini Cookie Craft Christmas book.

Christmas Craft

Also with recipes, ideas, and tips. It’s very cute. And small, which you know I like.

Cupcake Cookie Cutters

You’ll also get this cute 2-piece cupcake cookie cutter set. Love it!

Cupcake Stencils

And some cupcake stencils. You can use these on cookies, too.

Cake Tester

A cupcake-shaped cake tester. This totally unnecessary utensil was too cute to pass up.

Mini Cupcake Spatulas

And so were these mini spatulas. I bought all the goodies (except for the cookie book I picked up at the bookstore) from Crate & Barrel if you want to look them up. I like finding cute things. Hope you like them, too.

Stuffed

And it all comes stuffed in a sparkly stocking.

Enter to win it all.

  • Just leave a comment on this post and tell me what you want this Christmas. Big or small. Silly or Serious. Let’s share.
  • Me first… I want to spend time with all my family. Laughing. Hugging. Eating. And I want to take lots of pictures of them with my brand new, big, shiny camera. Yeah, that sounds good.
  • Deadline to enter is Wednesday, December 9 at 7:00 pm ET.TIME’S UP!
  • Winner selected at random and announced sometime Wednesday evening on this post.

Good luck.

Winner.
We have a winner. And it’s a high number this time.

#5935 – YAY CAROLINE! Hope you like the stocking full of stuff and hope you get that immersion blender, too.
cookiecraftwinner

And everyone else that entered. Thank you for sharing your Christmas wishes. I’ve smiled and cried multiple times reading through them. Some really important ones out there. I hope you get them granted. Hugs to you all.

  9. I really want some hand dyed yarn to knit! Also, a fun Christmas Eve dinner with my family :)

  10. I want snowshoes, so I can make the most of the 5 months of winter we usually have here. And winning this contest would be nice, too! :)

  17. All I want for Christmas is to spend it with my family, eating tons of food, laughing loud and having a great ole time!!

  18. I LOVE to do hand-decorated sugar cookies more than any other kind of baking. It is a pain in the rear and takes a lot of time, but the end result is sooo worth it. Ironically, one of the things on my Christmas list is a cupcake shaped cookie cutter. I’ve been dying to do cupcake cookies, since I also love cookies. I also want the Wilton tip set that comes with tips in every shape and size. BTW – if you use the same color icing to pipe the outside as you do to fill, it won’t be as obvious that you aren’t as good at piping. I am no piping expert. On my nonpurchasable list? That my May baby arrives healthy and happy.

    Happy Holidays!

For Christmas I am working on a project for my Mom and I want her to win! I entered her kitchen in the Canadian Living Home Depot Ugly Kitchen contest. I want all my friends, family and anyone who would like to make my Mom have a little joy in her life to vote and comment on her kitchen.

    Here is the link; http://kitchencontest.canadianliving.com/entry/1631992?sort=commentcount+DESC&offset=1&starttime=

Yes, I am Canadian but I still need help from far and wide!!

If you check it out you will see she needs help. My Dad died this past year and her dream of renovating her well used kitchen she feels has slipped away. I am working hard to try to win this and make her dream come true and bring some joy into her life…literally change her outlook.

She is one of the best bakers/cooks in my life. Her buttertarts are legendary and her pastry is know far and wide. When I think “Christmas” I think of the dessert buffet my Mom produced over the years. She made Christmas a delicious memory.

Please register, vote and comment on her kitchen. My wish is to make this happen and surprise her with the prize and the adventure of planning a new kitchen with her in the New Year.

Thanks for listening Bakerella!! I love looking at you through this internet window. You are an inspiration!!

Merry Christmas and here’s to a memorable 2010 for all!

  143. A new coat. My old one is ripped to shreads.

OK, what I want for Christmas…I just want to be with my family, I want to get our finances back in order (I have a back injury which the department of labor is now refusing to pay me compensation for a injury that happened at work). My Husband is in remission from rectal cancer, and was fired from his job shortly after his family leave ended (the day after). Don’t get me wrong, I am so thankful my Daughter is home with us, doing well in her last year of high school, and my two adult sons are well too.

I know we will not have money for presents this year, but I’m ok with it, my Daughter and I have been busy making ornaments and cards, and the glitter is everywhere!! I love this site, because of the cute ideas that I definitely want to try!! (I always use my Daughter & her friends as guinea pigs! : ) )

So there is my Christmas wish, and I would love to win the cute stocking filled with goodies! I want to make cupcake sugar cookies!!!! LOL

Thanks for such a great site! I love your recipes and the awesome links you have!!!!!

    Merry Christmas!

  150. This Christmas I want everyone to quit worrying about gifts..how much they are going to spend…who they need to buy for. Why can’t we have a Christmas where “togetherness” (with food of course!) is accepted? :0)

  151. Our family lives several states and many hours away. I really want to see my brothers, but I know only my parents can make it down this year. But that’s what I really really want.

  152. I would like to have a new drain for my sink and also to have a wonderful, relaxing time with my family (I have a 26 mon., 18 mon, and a 1 month old, with my husband). Christmas is all about family.

  153. I want to run in Central Park! It doesn’t have to be a long run, I’d be happy with a 3 miler. It’s just CENTRAL PARK!

  154. Oh my…Let’s just say…we recently had to expand some storage solutions to accomodate my baking habit….(-: I thought I wanted some cool new shoes and an immersion blender….but now all I want for Christmas is THIS!

  155. I would like to have a silver Kitchenaid 6 quart mixer.
    Merry Christmas to all !!!!!

  156. Really, all I want is for my kids and family to be happy and healthy…and maybe the new Zelda game for Nintendo DS (yeah, I’m a geek).

  157. mmmmm, I want peace, love and happiness with a side of chocolate!

  158. Winning this contest would be the perfect gift.

  159. I’d like a wii fit so I can bake all the yummy stuff on your site and enjoy eating it without weighing a ton!

  160. I want my family to be happy and enjoy Christmas.

  161. the Canon Rebel is definitely on my list, but mostly I just want some quality time with my husband

  162. I would like to be home with my family all together for Christmas.

  163. I think your piping looks great. Dont’ be so hard on yourself. I love your e-mail posts and look forward to them each week. You inspire me and I think what you are doing is great. Thanks so much for sharing your work with us.

  164. So lovely! (as usual). This year I want a brand new, big, shiny camera ;) to take pictures of my family & friends. And something delicious to eat! though I guess I’ll have to take part in thay myself :)

  165. I want my kids to have an almost perfect day with no major disappointments. They get so excited that it is hard if things don’t meet their expectations.

  166. To see the smiles on my grandson’s faces Christmas morning! Hope everyone is safe, warm and happy this year!

  167. OMG!!!!! I am so excited about this giveaway!!! I really really hope I win!!!! I got Cookie Craft on your recommendation and the cookies are AWESOME!!!! I didn’t know they had a Christmas version! What I want for Christmas . . . some time to relax with my family – and lots of COOKIES without staying up until 3am making them. I want to be in bed by 10pm Christmas Eve! Umm, maybe 11. Before my son’s birthday in October I tried out freezing the undecorated Cookie Craft cookies, so I would LOVE to get to make some soon (like this weekend?) and freeze for Christmas. That is this perfectionist procrastinator’s dream, LOL. Then I can take some out and decorate some with the kids for Santa!

My favorite tip in Cookie Craft – using corn syrup and then dusting with sugar – I use brushes to do some detail with different colors and it comes out SO cute – and SO easy! I don’t have the icing and piping down either – yours look great though!!

  168. I want a new house but I’m getting a garage door opener for our current house. Yea!! ;)

  169. A Kindle book reader. Been drooling over one since I saw it on Oprah. Oh, and world peace would be nice, too. Love the cupcake cookies! You’re so talented. Thanks for the opportunity for the give-away. Happy Holidays.
    Susan.

  170. All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth. Seriously. I had an accident a year and half ago that screwed up my two front teeth and I currently have a temporary fix on them. While this is working fine for the time being, I’d really love the 2 REALLY EXPENSIVE but PERMANENT crowns that I need. So, if you can’t give me my two front teeth, maybe just a stocking full of awesome fun baking stuff. That will work, I guess!

  171. I just want to recover from the recession so that next Christmas can be more of a “normal” Christmas, rather than a financial burden.

  172. I am so happy to have my christmas with my family this year. The last 2 years I was (lucky enough) to spend my christmas in france!!
So apart from all being together and happy this year I would love a marc by marc jacobs purse!!!

  173. A peaceful Christmas with my family. Checking out the Christmas lights which have really excited my little guy this year! And PW’s cookbook under the tree.

  174. I would like for Christmas to last longer :) It seems like it always passes by so quickly!

  175. All I want for Christmas is to see my kids smiling faces on Christmas morning. Their happiness is better than any gift I could receive!!
Love the cookies by the way. Super cute!!

  176. I look forward to spending time with family and friends for Christmas but I also have my hopes set on a Kitchenaid hand mixer. I also wanted the Pastry Queen Cookbook but my aunt let it slip yesterday that she already bought it for me. Yay!

  177. I want some time off work to just relax and enjoy the season to its fullest. The cookies are adorable!

  178. This is my favorite contest yet – so many cute items!
For Christmas I want the Ace of Cakes book, Beatles remastered CD’s, and lots of time spent with family and friends!

  179. Adorable!
What I want for Christmas is for my family to focus more on the meaning of Christmas and less on the gifts!
And I want a Bose stereo. Hee hee! :)

  180. I want a some time with my husband. And, as far as something that can be bought…I always love anything for the kitchen, so this would be great!

  182. I NEED walking shoes, but WANT more cake stuff!!! DVD’s, gadgets, cook books – anything to do with cake!! LOVE your Blog!!
    Nikole

  183. I want to know that we can go one year without my son having surgery. (I’d love to not have to write about anything like that in next year’s Christmas card).
If we can’t have that then I want: a new stainless steel cookware set!… OR an awesome stocking filled with fun baking things!

  184. I want what you want!! Spend time with my family and a new camera!! I especially love seeing the joys of Christmas through my daughters eyes.

  185. I want everyone to get what they want for Christmas! Love these goodies!

  186. Not much that I want for Christmas. I really enjoy having my family over for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day! A new pair of shoes is always nice too!

  187. Those cookies are so cute! They look amazing, and blemishes just add to the cuteness. For Christmas, I have asked for a Cricut. I probably won’t get it, so instead I’ll settle for my children having a magical holiday.

  188. I would like to enjoy a nice evening out with my husband at a really nice restaurant.

  189. Wahou, most of you are reasonnable… but I’m not. Overseas, yes I want to spend great time with my family but as French I also really want to create my first Christmas colored pyramid of Macarons. I’m starting tomorrow for my Christmas diner with my friends on saturday….. And I hope to recieve a great camera to take a lot of food and family pictures !
    have a nice day!!!

  190. First of all I am SO impressed with your cookies piping and all! You are such a pro. Love the sketching ahead idea. P.S. I was raving about your site the other day to my new co-workers and they said, “Oh yeah, Bakerella, we love her!” You’re winning the world over one baked good post at a time. :)

    For my official contest answer…
…I am wishing for some quiet time to get creative and looking forward to celebrating Christmas with my and hubby’s families.

  191. I want a safe and happy holiday. And that new phone I have my eye on.

  192. Oh, my! I want that stocking full of goodies for Christmas! Seriously, though, I want to keep moving through my pregnancy smoothly and have a happy, healthy baby next year.

  193. Omigosh I would LOVE to win this!! I am in graduate school and so are my fiance and roommate. It’s kind of an awkward in-between between being at your parent’s for the holidays and creating your own. This year, though I wasn’t about to let that stop the Christmas spirit from hitting our house! I brought forced my fiance and my roommate (who is a boy lol) into decorating dozens of Christmas cookies with me. (And despite protests, I know that they loved it and enjoyed the smells filling our house and making their own gingerbread men….although one turned out to be in the shape of a skull.)
What I really need though are cookie cutters! They cannot be afforded on a graduate school budget, so I had to make my own cutters out of the edge of a pie pan stapled into different shapes haha. It worked pretty darn well, but a real cutter would be so much nicer.
Not only did my roommates enjoy the fruits of our labors, but we’ve passed them out to other graduate-school friends and my students who also loved feeling that little bit of home this Christmas time. (I teach undergrad Biology at WVU)

  194. I want to be able to afford the expense and time off of work to go visit my best friend, who’s working down at Disney World and will miss Christmas, New Years, and her birthday. It doesn’t hurt that I love Mickey Mouse, too :)

  195. I would like to find just one of the illusive Zhu Zhu pets for my daughter for Christmas!! Other than that, just a Christmas filled with family, friends, love and laughter. Hope yours is a blessed one!

  196. For Christmas, I want a lazy kate for my spinning wheel. I also want one of the big 575-watt kitchenaid stand mixers, but that’s not going to happen.

Also, another week or so would sure be nice!

  197. I want to have a peaceful Christmas with my loving friends and family! It wouldn’t hurt to have a great meal and something fun under the tree too!!!

  198. What a lovely prize!! I love all the cute cupcake stuff…I’m actually hoping to redecorate my kitchen in cupcakes soon.

My Christmas wish is to spend the holiday surrounded by my family and friends…eating, drinking, giggling, and being merry…and a new camera to take lots of pictures to remember our great time!

  199. OH wow- the work that goes in this art! I would love to win this so I can expand my skills in this area– looks like so much fun and DELICIOUS!!!!

For christmas- time with family and thanking the Lord for the eternal gift that He has given to all mankind (John 3:16) -what a gift!

Also, I do want some organization in my garage!!! hoping for some shelving units!!

Have a blessed Christmas! Jennifer K.
