Christmas and some cookies

Okay… finally, the post from last weekend. My camera never did wake up by the way. But I did manage to get all the photos off using a friend’s card reader. Yay! Unfortunately, no built in card readers on my printer or computer… Boo!

And, I would have posted this last night, but I spent the evening at Pioneer Woman’s book signing in Atlanta. Fun! Fun! More on that soon. Thankfully, I did have a working camera with me for that. A brand new Canon Digital Rebel XSi that I borrowed. It’s nice having generous friends. But, I kinda wish I hadn’t started using it. I might not be able to give it back. Bigger screen, More megapixels. And I’ve convinced myself the photo quality is far superior. It is. I know it is. Maybe my camera will be unfixable. Is that a word?

Anyway, here’s the goods or goodies from last weekend.

It’s coming up on Christmas, so I wanted to make some decorated sugar cookies. But I didn’t really want to make traditional Christmas shapes. So instead, I used a cute little cupcake cutter I recently bought. I also went with a less than traditional color scheme and chocolate sugar cookies to help make the colors pop.

Cookies

I love sugar cookies. Too bad I love them more than they love me. I’m still trying to perfect my piping. I will not give up. I will have non-lumpy lines one day.

Cookies

These were two of the better ones.

Cookies

These … not so much. But squint and they’ll look better.

Snowflake Sprinkles

See …… Okay, I’m kidding. I kid. These are the good ones. Well, the better ones anyway.

Mess

It helps to plan ahead when you work with royal icing. Draw out the colors you want for borders and the colors you want to fill with in advance.

Cookies

The cookie recipe is from the book, Cookie Craft. Get a copy if you have any desire to learn how to make these kind of decorated cookies. It’s jam-packed with tips and tricks.

Or maybe you’ll win this.

Cookie Stuff

Yes, the original Cookie Craft came out with a mini Cookie Craft Christmas book.

Christmas Craft

Also with recipes, ideas, and tips. It’s very cute. And small, which you know I like.

Cupcake Cookie Cutters

You’ll also get this cute 2-piece cupcake cookie cutter set. Love it!

Cupcake Stencils

And some cupcake stencils. You can use these on cookies, too.

Cake Tester

A cupcake-shaped cake tester. This totally unnecessary utensil was too cute to pass up.

Mini Cupcake Spatulas

And so were these mini spatulas. I bought all the goodies (except for the cookie book I picked up at the bookstore) from Crate & Barrel if you want to look them up. I like finding cute things. Hope you like them, too.

Stuffed

And it all comes stuffed in a sparkly stocking.

Enter to win it all.

  • Just leave a comment on this post and tell me what you want this Christmas. Big or small. Silly or Serious. Let’s share.

  • Deadline to enter is Wednesday, December 9 at 7:00 pm ET.TIME’S UP!
  • Winner selected at random and announced sometime Wednesday evening on this post.

#5935 – YAY CAROLINE! Hope you like the stocking full of stuff and hope you get that immersion blender, too.
cookiecraftwinner

  167. I’d like someone to make me perfect royal icing! I’ve been at it for over 2 years and its hit and miss, oh, and world peace.

  168. I want health and happiness for my family, to just be together with them. And maybe some craft supplies. And time to bake and make.

  169. Truly, I want to relax with my family, my sisters and all their kids, my parents….. and eat and laugh and play games…. and laugh and eat some more!

  171. For Christmas, I want breakfast in bed :)

  172. For Christmas I would love to have a few days of peace, without any deadlines, to relax and enjoy being with my children. Also, I would like to be able to take them all into close by NYC to see all the fun Christmas windows and lights without all the hassle of taking four kids into the city.

Oh, and I would like a crickut machine so I could cut vinyl letters.

This Christmas I’m asking Santa for a new camera. We’ll see if he’ll come through or not. I think he’s bringing us new recliners instead, but a girl can hope for both.. right?

  175. Awee this is a cute giveaway and the cookies turned out so pretty. Congrats on the new camera I would be having fun as well. As for what I would want for Christmas “a whole day to myself” maybe a spa day to relax and wash my cares away.

  176. I really want some plane tickets so I can travel over winter break! Or a cat; I’ve always wanted a cat.

  177. I want a touch screen computer for my kitchen so I don’t have to print al of my online recipes every time I cook!

  178. I want to move into the crazy old house we bought a year ago…we’ve been fixing it (mostly ouselves), living with the rents, and it is taking way longer than expected….can you say in over our heads!

  179. What do I want for Christmas? Well, it would be nice if Santa could bring my husband a job. If not, I’ll settle for spending tiem with friends and family and just relaxing for the day. :-)

  180. My current laptop sounds like an airplane. Every morning, I say a little prayer that it will get me through another day. So I hope there will be a new computer under the tree for me so I can keep coming to Bakerella!

  181. I just want to curvive the drive to the in-laws with all 3 kids not screaming the entire 15 hours. Really that would make Christmas so enjoyable.

  182. For this year, a good health is what I’m asking for.

  183. I just want to spend as much time with my family as I can while on Christmas break. Loving on my 4 year old princess and my 4 month old little prince and my knight in shining armor for days on end without a care in the world will be enough to fill my stocking this Christmas.

  184. I want good health for my family!

  185. I already got what I’ve long wanted and never thought I’d own! My thoughtful husband did some research and bought me a brand new, big, shiny camera and gave it to me in plenty of time to learn how to use it before the family gatherings and traditions begin. I’m still overwhelmed.

  186. All I want this Christmas is for my baby to start sleeping through the night. Can Santa bring me that?

  187. These are the cutest cookies ever!
For Christmas I want to go to NYC. It’s where I grew up and I haven’t been there at Christmas time in about 13 years and this year I am getting my wish!

I would also like Santa to bring me a nice and big kitchen where I could try and make your recipies. The one I have is so small…..

But if I found all those presents in my stocking I would be sooooooooo thrilled I’m sure I could forget about the rest.

  190. so stinkin cute!!

For Christmas I have decided I want to join the 21st century…I want an electric mixer…..I havent had one in 5 years, and now that the baking bug has bit me again, the right arm is very tired of hand mixing everything..
Oh, and a new camera…..something that makes all my stuff look perfect!

  191. I want undisturbed quality time with my husband, but alas although I have been good I won’t find the time to be naughty! LOL!!

Adorable cookies. Lady, you are sooooo talented.

  192. I would love a vacation for Christmas. Somewhere warm with my husband. Now that would be perfect!

  193. I’d like a kitchen elf for Christmas. I want to bake and bake but never have to clean up after myself. Think of how much more I could bake if I didn’t have to include that pesky clean up step! I’d also like my entire kitchen floor covered with about three layers of anti-fatigue mats…then I’d feel like I was baking in heaven! :) Merry Christmas everyone!!

I want to see a copper finish Kichenaid Artisan stand mixer under my tree – there was supposed to be one on my table for my anniversary, but “Cuisinart Food Processor” sounded and LOOKED so similar to “Kitchenaid MIXER”, that my husband mixed them up and got me the wrong thing – IMAGINE THAT
