I needed chocolate to offset all the turkey and dressing leftovers I’ve been eating for the last few days so I made some quick cookies on Sunday.
Cookies chocked full of chocolate …
… and peppermint M&M’s.
I blame Target and their huge end cap of seasonal Christmas candy displays for these cookies. I was shopping with my mom and walked right past these until she pointed out they were white chocolate inside.
Yes. White chocolate peppermint M&M’s. Yum.
So naturally, I had to buy a couple of bags. Some to snack on and some to bake with. And some to snack on while I’m baking.
Plus, it never hurts to have white M&M’s on hand for random decorating.
I used dark cocoa for the chocolate in these cookies but you can use regular, too.
Spoon please.
Roll the dough into balls and bake.
I like to reserve some of the chips and candies to press into the balls after they are rolled so the chips aren’t all hidden inside the cookie.
It helps them look prettier and more pepperminty this way after they are baked.
Not that any looks would stop me from warm, soft cookies. Big bites right out of the oven are always a must.

Enjoy these “I can’t eat any more turkey” treats!
Any suggestions now that M&M stopped making these delicious M&Ms?
Delicious! I made these yesterday and already bought more m&ms to make another batch! I’ll be adding this to our permanent recipe box!
These cookies look great I’m going to test the recipe.
Is it salted or unsalted butter
those look so good! perfect for the holidays!
great recipe! I made these with the above ingredients one time, then decided to use toffee chips and chocolate chips the next and they turned out fantastic! The possibilities are endless!
looking super delicious
love these cookies
Made these, but didn’t have the M&Ms, so I just used chocolate & white chocolate chips & then pressed the tops into crushed candy canes before cooking. Yummers! Thanks for the idea!
PEPPERMINT CHOCOLATE This is pure delight for your taste buds.
CHERRY-MINT CHOCOLATE a burst of cherry zest
Both are great flavour :) :)
Can you make these without the coffee? Would it change the flavor?
Hi. I stumbled upon ur website today. One look at this page n I decided to make this cookie right away. Sadly, my cookie dough was very sticky. After baking, it was more like brownie than cookie. Where do u think I went wrong? I sure did follow the recipe above. Pls let me know
My daughters and I made these yummy cookies and I must say, they were the best sweets I have ever had!!!! They almost melted in my mouth. I love peppermint especially around the holidays so when I saw this recipe I bought some peppermint M&M’s planning on making these then I totally forgot them until after the holidays. I will for sure make these every year. Think you for all of your wonderful ideas. You inspire me all the time.
I just wish I had read this more carefully when I first stumbled upon it. I went to grocery stores, drug stores – never any white chocolate peppermint m & ms. Finally, I see they are @ Target. I went after Christmas and stocked up. They were 50% off at that point, so there’s the silver lining :-)
Brilliant Angie! I have a bag of those from last year!
I just made these but unfortunately in my country we don´t have those M&M´s! I used regular M&M´s and crushed peppermint candy, and they are amazing!! Thanks again for a great recipe!
I made these for Christmas. They didn’t make it to Christmas Day because they were gone by Christmas Eve! These were incredible! Thanks for the recipe and thanks to my target for having the M&M’s!!
Thank you for the recipe. Santa LOVED them. Thank you again.
I ditto what Allison just said above…these are amazing and I can’t stop eating them :) Just had some for breakfast! Merry Christmas!
I used one packet of Starbucks Via instant peppermint mocha instead of plain instant coffee. They taste great!
Just made these today!!! DELICIOUS! They turned out exactly like your photos! The recipe is perfect and I will be adding it to the annual Christmas baking list! Thank you!!! Looks like I’m going to Target to stock up on these M&Ms!
I made this last night and they are very tasty! The only problem I had was that they went super flat while baking? What did I do wrong? I still have have the dough can I do anything to help them. They taste great and have been disappearing quite quickly. They just don’t look quite as pretty.
I love peppermint so I will try it.
Thank you for posting the recipe, I made the cookies for a potluck & cookie exchange event. I looked all over the tiny town I live in for the peppermint M&M’s but unfortunately none were to be found , so I used plain mint M&M’s. I’m sure the peppermint M&M’s would have tasted better but the cookies were still a huge hit! Everyone raved about them. Thank you!
Made these without the coffee and with half white chocolate peppermint and half chocolate mint m and ms (since we ate too many of the white chocolate ones before we started!). Fantastic!
These turned out devine! I made two batches and the ones with the dark chocolate chips tasted much better!
I love it! I’ve never seen the Mint M&M’s maybe I just haven’t been looking. But I guess if you can’t find them you could you mint flavouring or a crushed up candle cane. Something like that. :) I have no idea why I said that xD
You might want to mention that these are a Target exclusive and limited seasonal product. I went to 3 different stores looking for them.
LOVE this recipe! I couldn’t find peppermint M&Ms so I used chopped up Andes instead, but otherwise, I followed the recipe exactly and the cookies were perfectly crunchy on the outside yet moist and chewy on the inside. Thanks for another awesome recipe :)
This looks simply amazing! Great recipe!
those look so good! perfect for the holidays!
I made these today and they are wonderful. I didn’t put in the coffee and used dark chocolate chips instead of bittersweet. The M&M’s are AMAZING! I made a special trip to Target to get them and I’m so glad I did. Thanks for this great recipe. It’s my new favorite!
I mistakenly picked up “Holiday Mint” M&Ms instead which are milk chocolate on the inside. These cookies were still amazing though! And my 8 year old daugher wants me to make them again even without the M&Ms. She just loved the chocolate cookie part that much! Definitely a keeper :)
I made these twice since last week. My husband loves dark chocolate & mint, so he was very happy.
I went to Target just to find these m&ms (in Canada there are still only a few stores and none very close to me). It was worth it – they are awesome!!!!!!
Made these over the weekend and my 13-yr old taste tester, the one who can down unbelievable amounts of mint chocolate chip ice cream in one sitting, approved them :)
Looks DELISH!!
is it okay if you exclude the instant coffee crystals?
do you think these would freeze well?
Wow. Just made these cookies for a Cookie Exchange Party with my mother-in-law and sister-in-law. I went out on a limb and tried the recipe without having tried it at home first. Everyone LOVED these!
I used caramel instant coffee and Walmart only had Milk Choc Mint M&M’s – I put the three colors on top instead of mixing them in. They were a rich, decadent, soft cookie – so delicious.
Thank you!
HOLY CRAP!!! Made these to take to potluck and could barely part with them. They are so delicious, especially right out of the oven. Great recipe! Thank you for sharing.
I made mine with Pero instead of coffee. They still turned out delicious!
I’m going to make these today!
I made these today and wowee, what a yummy treat! We went through a number of bags of these m&ms last year but those are even better in a cookie! Thanks for the recipe!
I made these and they are SO yummy! Could not find the M&Ms except @ Target! May have to buy more!
Could these be made without the coffee crystals?
Wowza! They look scrumptious! Wish I had some now!
oh I know what I did wrong.. I used a tablespoon to measure the baking soda instead of a teaspoon!! but they are gorgeous anyway!! thanks!
I made them and they are awesome! They do grow quite a bit, so make sure you refrigerate the dough before baking! My first Christmas cookie of the year!
Is there any replacement for egg that you can recommend for this recipe? I absolutely love how they look..
ohhh they are baking right now, but they grew so much that became one huge cookie!
UMMM i dont know how you read my mind but I have been craving a chocolate peppermint cookie and was looking for ideas for neighbor gifts! you did it!
White chocolate?? Peppermint?? YUMMMMMM
Now to find them in Australia…..
Thanks!
Hey Maggie, Suzanne and Alesia – Sure, feel free to omit the coffee.
Also wondering if I can omit the coffee? I want to include these with my Christmas cookies, but I have a friend who is allergic to coffee. :(
Uhhhhhm- these look incredible. Cookies are so dangerous. I only have one housemate, so when I bake a batch, we end up splitting it between just the two of us. Good thing? Bad thing? Ack!
Those look REALLY good
Definitely gonna make them! :)
Yum..i need to make peppermint something!!
I just made these. They are every bit as good as they look! Be careful though you may not actually cook any. The dough is to die for!
I’m with Maggie…can you leave out the instant coffee and get the same results?
These look SO good. I would be tempted to sprinkle on some crushed peppermint candies as well.
I was drooling all the way through this post – these look so amazing! Definitely want to try these! Great Blog.

I so want to try these! every recipe of yours is always a bug hit around here…You are extremely creative and talented but at the same time i love how You keep a very down to earth approach on your recipes and ways: I, in my small town, am able to get the ingredients and it’s refreshing that when i read you i totally feel you are sharing and not bragging. That’s why your blog is the one i will always follow. May the achievements and blessings keep coming to you
ack! I saw these at Target and didn’t pick them up (was on a mission to find something else). Dang! Now I have to go back and (fingers crossed they still have some) pick them up!
Ooh look delicious. And wow white choc M&Ms!
WOW they look so delicious!!! we really have to try them :)
very tasty, colorful,’ve got to try
Really like the Black, Red & White colour. I’m so jealous with all the candy selections you have there. I am obsessed with mint chocolates.
Those look yummy.
These look lovely! Such a festive cookie!
I love everything about these cookies…the mint + chocolate flavours, the colours, shapes.
Now I’ll be baking a batch tonight with Daisy!
That last photo really makes me hungry!
I love those white chocolate peppermint m&ms! I wanted to put them in everything last Christmas. Amazing cookies! Love that right-out-of-the-oven photo with the melty chocolate. :)
OMG, looks soooo good!
The colours in these cookies are so festive. I am so ready for Christmas!
I blame Target for everything! I just go there and buy things! At least I’m not alone! These cookies look fantastic; perfect for the holidays or anytime!
This recipe sounds awesome! Can I omit the instant coffee crystals? My boys love chocolate and peppermint but last time I made a recipe with any kind of coffee (I’ve tried both instant crystals and real espresso) the boys can tell :( Help!
Yum
Oh lord, white chocolate ON THE INSIDE?! I’m running over to Target stat!! Yuuuum I love these kind of cookies
these look amazing!
These look sooooooo cute!
It’s posts like these that make me miss Target and US shops! The UK just doesn’t have the same fun things! Oh well, at least I get to drool over these! They look amazing!
Perfect cookies for Christmas!
Yum! Love the way these look and I bet they taste even better. I didn’t realize there was peppermint m&m’s out there! Thanks for the festive recipe!
Oh my gawsh…I want to face plant into those melty cookie pictures! I am all over these cookies, so perfect for Christmas!
Chocolate and peppermint-my favorite combo :D those look amazing :D
These sound delicious! I wish we could get those here in NZ. I’ll have to ask a relative to bring some back the next time someone goes to the US
But I can’t buy those m&m’s in the uk… *sniff*
They look so good! As in, they would taste absolutely divine and they look so christmassy and cute!
Yum these look delicious, they would be great with peanut butter m&ms as well!
Oh my… these look so good!!
Oh man! That photo of the cookie being all gooey and melty! I think I might have to make these asap! Thanks!
Ok I’m off to Target now. Thank you these look delicious.
