I want to show you this new book from Williams-Sonoma.
It’s filled with delicious photographs and tons of recipes including …
Pretzels.
Pop Tarts.
And pies to name a few.
Are your taste buds warming up yet? Mine sure are. I could hardly stand to flip through the pages of this book without wanting to make everything in it.
Home. Baked. Comfort. Yes, please.
And guess what, else.
This book also includes recipes from several bakeries and bloggers across the country.
Like Smitten Kitchen, Tartine, Cannelle et Vanille, Flour, Baked…
And more.
Maybe even one from someone you know.
With all this yumminess, it was really hard to decide what to bake first. I flipped through the book several times before I finally decided.
When I saw that one of the featured bakeries was from Minneapolis, I knew right away that was the one to try since I’ll be in Minnesota and at Williams-Sonoma in about two weeks for a book signing. (Details here.)
And now, I may just have to stop by this bakery, too.

And her recipe for Chewy Chocolate Meringues is delish.
And easy.
And better yet, only needs four ingredients.
Finely chopped bittersweet chocolate.
Five tablespoons cocoa powder.
Sugar and egg whites.
This photo kinda makes them look like egg yellows though.
Whisk together the egg whites and sugar over – but not touching – simmering water until dissolved.
Remove from heat and beat the egg whites until stiff and glossy.
Then fold in the chocolate and cocoa.
Scoop out the batter on parchment lined baking sheets and bake away.
You want to see cracks. That’s part of what I love about this recipe. No need to try and make anything look perfect. These are already perfectly imperfect.
And oh so good.
They are highly addictive, too. I don’t want to tell you how many I ate before I even finished taking photos…
…but let’s just say that this photo is missing quite a few.
I’m so glad I tried this recipe. I’ve never made meringues before because they never really looked all that appealing to me. But wow! These chocolate ones will be made again. And again.

Candy Corn. Hands down winner every single year since I was 5. And that was a looong time ago.

I LOVE candy corn! I used to love these orange whistles you could get at Halloween (when I was a kidlet) – they were wax and more like a triangular harmonica …they were yummy and fun!
I wasn’t allowed candy much as a kid; Halloween was a rare opportunity to try every kind of candy bar under the sun. I used to line them all up in my order of preference and eat them backwards — saving the best for last. The last? Reese’s peanut butter cups.

AAAAHHHHH I just was in the shower thinking about all these egg whites I have in my freezer! Well now that I am not nakkid anymore I will be making these when I get home from work! THANK YOU for being a constant source of ideas! Your stuff keeps me sane.
I have to say I steal most of my kids (you heard me-I own it, yes I steal my kids good candy) Mini Reeses’ Cups. I keep them in the freezer for “long keeping” yeah that’s why I keep them in there!

Wow I was just a Williams Sonoma on Saturday., I must have missed your book. I’d love a copy of this. My favorite Halloween candy is chocolate candy corn. All the other varieties are just too sugary, if you can believe that.
I’ve never really had a specific favorite Halloween candy, but my favorite part was trading with my four siblings at the end of the night, so every one got what they wanted. “I’ll give you three tootsie rolls for your package of skittles” :)

I love just about all the Halloween candy–especially chocolate. Mini Snickers, Heath and peanut M&Ms. I raid my kids’ candy bags after they go to sleep which is the right thing to do since they are really young and don’t need all that candy. So when I take their candy it’s like I’m rewarding myself for being such a good mom! :)

Yum! I LOVE any kind of Reese’s for Halloween – miniatures, cups, pieces! There is no better combination than chocolate and peanut butter (in my opinion!)

As much as I love to bake, I really don’t have much of a sweet tooth. My favorite at Halloween was what I received at my grandmas house-Bettermaid chips! She used to get a huge box of them to pass out, and I would always trade her my candy to get extra bags:)

my favorite halloween candy has to be candy corn.
we dont really celebrate halloween to the extreme that you in the US do..of which i am highly jealous!! therefore the only “treats” that i am used to on halloween would either be a toffee apple (scrummy) or doughnuts (has to be ring so that it can be attached to string for the game of who can eat the doughnut the quickest without using your hands! ) I think im going to go with dougnuts-theyve got to be reallll sugery though!!

As for my favorite Halloween candy…..my favorite is HALLOWEEN CANDY!!!! ALL OF IT!!! Ok….just one huh? Hmmm….I guess if I have to pick only one I would have to say…the peanut butter taffies. You know, the ones in the orange and black wrappers. Stringy gooey peanut butter taffy on the outside with the middle of crunchy peanut butter. I like to play with my food, and honestly who doesn’t?, and I stretch the taffy by pulling on it until the middle is just about to fall out then I quickly suck the middle out before it falls. And then continue to stretch the taffy some more before eating it. Yum!

Kit Kats, but more importantly…. Having personally consumed many a Salty Tart cookie, I can safely tell you that it’s a run, don’t walk situation. You will NOT be disappointed. And while you’re at the Midtown Global Market, stop by the tamale shop (La Loma) and get a sweet corn tamale. And since you’ll need a little savory to balance out all that sweet, falafels from Holy Land. And then pass out in a blissful food coma.
