I want to show you this new book from Williams-Sonoma.
It’s filled with delicious photographs and tons of recipes including …
Pretzels.
Pop Tarts.
And pies to name a few.
Are your taste buds warming up yet? Mine sure are. I could hardly stand to flip through the pages of this book without wanting to make everything in it.
Home. Baked. Comfort. Yes, please.
And guess what, else.
This book also includes recipes from several bakeries and bloggers across the country.
Like Smitten Kitchen, Tartine, Cannelle et Vanille, Flour, Baked…
And more.
Maybe even one from someone you know.
With all this yumminess, it was really hard to decide what to bake first. I flipped through the book several times before I finally decided.
When I saw that one of the featured bakeries was from Minneapolis, I knew right away that was the one to try since I’ll be in Minnesota and at Williams-Sonoma in about two weeks for a book signing. (Details here.)
And now, I may just have to stop by this bakery, too.
Salty Tart. Cute name.
And her recipe for Chewy Chocolate Meringues is delish.
And easy.
And better yet, only needs four ingredients.
Finely chopped bittersweet chocolate.
Five tablespoons cocoa powder.
Sugar and egg whites.
This photo kinda makes them look like egg yellows though.
Whisk together the egg whites and sugar over – but not touching – simmering water until dissolved.
Remove from heat and beat the egg whites until stiff and glossy.
Then fold in the chocolate and cocoa.
Scoop out the batter on parchment lined baking sheets and bake away.
You want to see cracks. That’s part of what I love about this recipe. No need to try and make anything look perfect. These are already perfectly imperfect.
And oh so good.
They are highly addictive, too. I don’t want to tell you how many I ate before I even finished taking photos…
…but let’s just say that this photo is missing quite a few.
I’m so glad I tried this recipe. I’ve never made meringues before because they never really looked all that appealing to me. But wow! These chocolate ones will be made again. And again.
Thanks Salty Tart.
Adapted from Home Baked Comfort. * I omitted the cocoa nibs because I didn't have any on hand and the cookies still came out beautifully.
Chewy Chocolate Meringues
Ingredients
Instructions
Notes
The recipe says it makes about 2 dozen meringues, but I ended up with about 60 using a 1.5 inch scoop. I also used a scale to measure my ingredients exactly.

The pumpkin shaped peanut butter cups of course, i swear they are better than the normal ones. perfect chocolate to peanut butter ratio!
I have to say this is a tough one. I just love fall and all of the colors, this includes candy. The Pumpkins and Candy corn mix it my favorite too.
We don’t celebrate Halloween but it is the best time of year to stock up on candy! But my favorite mini candies are either Twix or KitKats. Guess it depends on the day!
Candycorn!
I love Carmel apples!!!!
I absolutely love the autumn mix candy corn!!! When the end of August/beginning of September rolls around, I will stop in the drugstore every day just to see if candy corn is out. And when it is, I am in a candy corn coma for the rest of the fall!
I’m a sucker for really good candy corn, but a butterfinger or a twix in my basket is always nice to have :) (Last time there were so many candy bars left I crushed them into cake filling, yum!)
fav halloween candy are KITKATS!! I’m so excited to try baking your mini pumpkin pie bites for my office!
EVERY CANDY IS MY FAVORITE!
You think I’m kidding.
Fine, Almond Joy. :)
Definitely Candy Corn!!!
I love, love, love candy corns! Even better are the little candy pumpkins made of the same delicious, chewy, sweet stuff (only bigger)!
I pretty much love all candy, but Halloween is for candy corn. Yum!
Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups!
I love the holiday season! All the decorations and amazing treats I actually have a good excuse to make! After trick-or-treating I’d always eat the mini snickers first – they’re my favorite. But oh those chewy choclate meringues sound AMAZING!
Would LOVE to win this! Mini-Oh-Henry Bars is what I’m missing most about trick-or-treating!
Candy corn of course!
Hmm… I’ve only been trick or treating twice but if I had to pick I’d say that thoses little chocolate balls covered with foil to make them look like pumpkins are pretty cool :)
I absolutely love candy corn – they just say Halloween to me!
M&M’s are my favorite! Btw my wife made the meringues and they are good, very good!
Candy Corn that comes in different flavors!!
candy corn and the pumpkins too!!!
my favorite Halloween candy is any & all candy!
Funny story:
My favorite Halloween candy is one I have not tried – Hershey’s Pumpkin Spice Kisses.
I recently discovered that these exist (while reading a magazine, I think), and I have been looking everywhere for them. Since I can’t find them locally, I think I may order them online and drool away the days waiting for them to arrive. I love all things pumpkin and, for that reason, I have developed a slight obsession with getting my hands (and my mouth) on those bites of heaven.
Tiny little butterfingers. I don’t feel as guilty eating them when they are so tiny and cute. I dig through the kids haul and take all of them out.
We don’t usually celebrate Halloween as a family and in the UK Halloween doesn’t seem to be celebrated like it is in the US anyway so it doesn’t get its own special candy;) I’ve just started making meringue recently and am so pleased with the results, tho I’ve never tried choc meringue before they look fab!!
sweet tarts
My fav halloween candy(which I still from my kids halloween bag by the way..shhh… :P) has to be REESES PIECES CHOCOLATE. I feel guilty buying them at the store but at halloween they are so miniature so what the heck not that many calories right! hahaha
I love the dum dum mini lollipops
I love candy corn…and any miniature candy bar.
Banana Laffy Taffy is my favorite Halloween candy! Actually, my all-time favorite is something very similar from my childhood, but it’s not made any more. It was a long, skinny banana taffy stick called a “witch’s broom”. :)
Milky Ways!
The best candy are snickers minis. Cram caramel, chocolate and peanuts into a tiny little package is AMAZING :) just like your cake pops!
Smarties! I also confess to a fondness for those wretched peanut butter taffies in the orange and black wrappers. You know, the ones that stick in your teeth for weeks afterward? :)
any kind of thing with chocolate… but no popcorn balls!!!
It’s a tie between dark chocolate Milky Ways and Mini reese’s peanut butter cups! Love, love, love them! Your meringues looked fabulous! Can’t wait to try them!
Kari
Candy corn!
REESE’S.
Don’t have a favorite Halloween candy per se, but in general the little snickers are my fave!
OMG! You will LOVE the Salty Tart. I interned there a couple of summers ago and my life was never the same. Michelle, the owner, is an absolutely wonderful person and you will adore her personality. She is one of the best, for sure! I attached a lnk to one of my posts about them, if you want to check it out beforehand. Have a wonderful time in the Twin Cities, I know you’ll love it :)
