It’s filled with delicious photographs and tons of recipes including …

And pies to name a few.
Are your taste buds warming up yet? Mine sure are. I could hardly stand to flip through the pages of this book without wanting to make everything in it.
Home. Baked. Comfort. Yes, please.
And guess what, else.
This book also includes recipes from several bakeries and bloggers across the country.
Like Smitten Kitchen, Tartine, Cannelle et Vanille, Flour, Baked…
And more.
Maybe even one from someone you know.
With all this yumminess, it was really hard to decide what to bake first. I flipped through the book several times before I finally decided.
When I saw that one of the featured bakeries was from Minneapolis, I knew right away that was the one to try since I’ll be in Minnesota and at Williams-Sonoma in about two weeks for a book signing. (Details here.)
And now, I may just have to stop by this bakery, too.

And her recipe for Chewy Chocolate Meringues is delish.
And easy.
And better yet, only needs four ingredients.
Finely chopped bittersweet chocolate.
Five tablespoons cocoa powder.
Sugar and egg whites.
This photo kinda makes them look like egg yellows though.
Whisk together the egg whites and sugar over – but not touching – simmering water until dissolved.
Remove from heat and beat the egg whites until stiff and glossy.
Then fold in the chocolate and cocoa.
Scoop out the batter on parchment lined baking sheets and bake away.
You want to see cracks. That’s part of what I love about this recipe. No need to try and make anything look perfect. These are already perfectly imperfect.
And oh so good.
They are highly addictive, too. I don’t want to tell you how many I ate before I even finished taking photos…
…but let’s just say that this photo is missing quite a few.
I’m so glad I tried this recipe. I’ve never made meringues before because they never really looked all that appealing to me. But wow! These chocolate ones will be made again. And again.

I mix my handful of candy corn with a handful of salty peanuts, and it tastes just like a Payday! My favorite candy, the one I always wanted to see show up in my trick or treat pumpkin bucket was definitely fun sized Snickers. But I’ll eat anything covered in chocolate.

Reese’s peanut butter cups – my addiction started when I was pregnant with my first son (I had them stashed everywhere), now I try and only eat them at Halloween (when I buy the treat bag – not to give out of course)

Not sure what my favorite is now. But growing up I would do Halloween candy trades with siblings and friends. The most common candy I tried to get was tootsie rolls, which was easy since many people don’t like tootsie rolls. But sour patch kids, skittles, and starburst were also favorites.

Favorite Halloween candy since I was a child…plain and simple Milk Chocolate Hershey’s Bar, although recently I’ve discovered Clark bars and unfortunately have myself a bit of an obsession

I’m not American, so I don’t celebrate Halloween. But on Oct 31st it’s Reformation Day in Germany. There’s a special treat that’s popular around where I live, just for Reformation Day: Refomation rolls. They are yeast risen sweet rolls with dried citrus, jam and icing. Yummy!

I haven’t seen them in a while, but I love those little skeleton candies that come in individual pieces and you can put them together-ish to form a full skeleton. Or to be really nostalgic, back when I was a kid there were these little boxes with monsters (Frankenstein, Dracula, etc) on them that had sticks of candy inside. Both of these are kind of like smarties in flavor, but way better.
Those, and tootsie rolls! I never see frooties anymore either. But I did just google ’em and found them online, which is great and terrible at the same time.
Candy corn — and if you mix them with salty peanuts, it tastes like a Baby Ruth candy bar. :)
I have to admit that I like to buy some reeses peanut butter cups and some mini snickers for the kids and hide a couple in the kitchen for me…..

Popcorn balls are my favorite… my grandma used to make up a huge batch every Halloween and give them to all of us country kids. The sugar syrup would get stuck in my teeth and take hours to pry off. :) Fond fall memories of my Gram. She’s no longer with us, but I make popcorn balls every fall to honor her memory.

Ever since I had my baby shower around Halloween a few years ago, I have loved the mini-Clark bars! (Our last name is Clark). We passed them out at my shower and bought extra to hand out at the hospital when my daughter was born. Halloween is the only time you can find them.
