Have you heard of these chicks before? I hadn’t until a few weeks ago. It was really kind of a weird little coincidence. I was in the bookstore picking up Pioneer Woman Cookbooks for a recent giveaway and my eyes locked in on a book called The Farm Chicks in the Kitchen. Loved the title and the design, but because I was over my limit on books for the day, make that month, all I did was thumb through the pages really quickly before I made myself leave.
But then, just two days later I received an email from none other than Serena, one of THE Farm Chicks. Seriously. Out of the blue. Two days later. Does stuff like that happen to you, too? Strange coincidences? It does to me all the time.
(Hmmm… The Pioneer Woman and The Farm Chicks. That’s kinda weird, too. Okay, I’m moving to the country.)
Anyway, it was a really short email message that said she wanted to send me something.
Curious, I said, ok. (I like surprises.)
And boy was I surprised when several days later I received a package full of all of these sweet, sweet gift tags.
Some with little cakes.
And others with sweet messages.
Plus there were all these fun recipe cards. (Forgive me for the extra blurriness. I was playing with different settings on my camera.)
Some even had Christmas themes.
I had no idea they had all these cute products plus a cookbook. Impressive.
Speaking of their book, I had to run out to the bookstore and get it right away.
Wish I had seen this before trying to make a pie last week. Could have come in handy.
The Farm Chicks love some pie. And the book has several yummy ones like this.
Plus, it has fun, do-it-yourself projects throughout. I’ve never made scones, but if I do, I want a scone cozy to go with them. Cozy scones. Yes. I want my scones to be cozy. Adorableness. Cuteness doesn’t quite cut it here.
Hi Serena. Thanks for sending me all the fun stuff. I love it.
Especially the necklace.
Oh, I forgot to tell you guys about the necklace. Well, it has a cake on the front of it and it’s just darling.
See.
And, since Serena sent me two of them… well…
Would you like one? Then, we can both look super cute, adorned in cake.
I’ll even throw in some of my gift tags and recipe cards, too. I’m a sharer.
(necklace, recipe cards and gift tags)

And, here’s the winner…
Wow, wow, wow, I am going to need the rest of the year to go through all of your favorites. So many things I like, too… especially fudge and so many that I have never even heard of. You guys should take a look through them if you get a chance and want some ideas for something new. Thank you for sharing. And the winner is… #2670… That’s you Heather. All you have to do to get your prize is send me some of your dad’s Keeflies. Just kidding. But really, I just looked those up and they sound great.
It’s a toss up…Rum Cake or Eggnog pound cake. How about both!? I also love making homemade marshmallows. They make hot chocolate divine. Of course making REAL hot chocolate is required when consuming homemade marshmallows. Can you guess how many hours I spend in my kitchen!?!
Cherry Winks! My favorite christmas cookie, ever. My mother has made them for me every christmas since i was a little girl, they were Santa’s favorite too!
Your blog is such a breath of fresh air, so delightful and joyous! A real source of inspiration, thank you for your many morsels of goodness.
If you have a moment or two, please amuse yourself with my new creation. I would greatly appreciate the brief moment of adoration and any suggestions.

Thank You.
I love my aunt’s mini pecan pies! they are soooo delicious and the whole family looks forward to her baking them every year!
Every year I have to make my Busia’s sour cream cookies with buttercream frosting. They start to go as soon as I walk in the door with them. I have to make a double batch and get so tired of frosting them after a while, but it is worth it to keep up tradition. My family told me not to come if I didn’t bring Busia’s cookies. I also have to make my peppermint bark and my cinnamon surgared pecans. Baking does something to my soul!
sugar cookies hands~down!!! (or hands full of frosting by a 6 year old boy cover with wonderful Christmas sprinkles!) thee best!!!
I make a great low-carb trifle that helps to keep my blood sugar in check. Amazingly it’s always gone first from a huge spread of desserts! Love the beautiful pictures and fun ideas on your blog. Merry Christmas to all.
BAKERELLA: OK this is a bit stalkerish. Maybe a lot stalkerish–I haven’t decided yet. I don’t know you, but you have a LOT of pull so I’m gonna try you. Are you hooked yet?
First off, your site is so great! And I’m a huge cake ball fan and make them whenever a cake I try crumbles. The problem is they’re so easy to eat…like 8 in one sitting…not good on the ole waistline.
Second, I have a favor for you. I have a group of friends who have been working for the past 3 years on launching a nationwide campaign similar to the Truth Against Tobacco campaign but for pornography. They need FIVE people to support it from each state before they can officially launch it on January 11, 2010. Now I don’t know how you feel about pornography, maybe you like it and hey, I’m not here to judge. And I don’t know what state you’re from, but I don’t think you’re from Utah, which is where I’m from and most of my friends are. I personally have seen it have devastating effects as people I’ve loved have faced the addiction it causes. So what am I emailing you for? All you have to do? Donate $10. $10 to take a stand against porn. And maybe if you felt so inclined you could spread the word. So go to this site, http://sites.google.com/site/fightthenewdruglaunchcommitee/ and JOIN!!! Can you tell I seriously believe in this cause?!? And I know the economy is bad…but its $10 and you get to be part of a cause. How many people can say that? Hopefully LOTS after this email gets circulated.
If nothing else, thanks for all your FABULOUS baking advice–love you!
Tierra
My favorite sweet at almost anytime is anything with pumpkin and cinnamon in it whether it is pie, bread, cake or even coffee. Adding whipped cream puts any ot the above way over the top. Love your site and recipes.
Those chicks rock! I have that cake necklace! Isn’t it just the cutest?!
Oh this is great!! I love those recipe cards!!

very creative, another one for my santa wishlist. My husband is going to be mad to have to run out to the bookstore again for me. He was already done christmas shopping. Bakerella, you always find the neatest things.
I have their cookbook and it is just lovely. So much fun. How great that she sent you all that fabulous stuff.
It is a tradition to make my Grandmother’s sugar cookies. Every year, it takes hours of prep and tons of wasted flour to get them rolled and cut, then frosted (my favorite part). They always turn out perfect and even though they have never been the world’s most AMAZING sugar cookie dough, the amount of love and time taken to continue this tradition is precious. This year, my 2 yr old daughter gets to help and she knows whose they are, even though she never met her greatgrandma natalie.
Bakerella, will we ever see any of these recipes from the wonderful submissions? So many of them sound simply devine! You have a wonderful website and you are a lady after my own heart.
Why am I ALWAYS a day late and a dollar short???????
Of all the times in my life where I really could use some FREE gifts, I just seem to always be missing out. I don’t mean to feel sorry for myself but I do feel for my sweet family. We have been through so much in the last year and a half I am just starving for some good news. Or some news that I am a winner. Something fun for once. I can’t believe I am going to experience another giftless Christmas. We have 5 beautiful children and we are so very broke. My husband was in business for himself and just cannot find any work anywhere. Its so hard. But we are a close family and my children NEVER complain. I am very blessed for that.
Chocolate sheet cake. I only allow myself to make it on my birthday and at Christmas because I eat so much of it. But it is the best stuff ever!
well…. the conest’s over, but I still wanna share my favourite holiday dessert!
It’s called ”Ris a la mande” the name sounds kinda french, but it’s a truly sandinavian dessert xD
it’s kinda like rice pudding i guess? just with almonds, I’ve never had rice pudding tough xD but, it’s rice, chopped almonds, vanilla, and also some cream I think :) and then you eat it with warm cherry sauce after the dinner, and in the big bowl, you put a whole almond, and the person who finds it in his or hers bowl, get a present :D
peppermint cookies- yum! what cute tags
Of all the goodies baked by others, my favorite are the shortbread cookies made by my sister. Of the ones I make, I prefer coconut cream pie and sweet potato pie. :)
The favorite holiday dessert around here is my sour cream maple walnut or rhubarb coffee cake..its soo moist and the flavors just pop…a bit of whipped cream and its like heaven..then I revert back to reality and my chocolate habits! lol….
Ok. I am such a knucklehead. I always save your website, because it is my favorite.Kind of like the icing on the cake, saving it til last.Anyway, I waited too long and lost out on the cute stuff, contest wise that is. CHERRY CHEESE TARTS. THEY HAVE BEEN A PART OF CHRISTMAS EVER SINCE I WAS A LITTLE GIRL. YUUM!!

We don’t have a lot of sweets on Christmas in our house. But the things present are one of my favorites: Fruit Salad. I don’t know how people in other countries make fruit salad but in the Philippines it’s made by combining coconut meat, canned fruit cocktail, cool whip and condensed milk. Then it is placed in the freezer until… um, frozen. Yum. Now I want some.

My favorite Christmas dessert is fudge, chocolate and butterscotch. My Mom makes it by hand (no mixer) and stirs and stirs. It is so delicious that it literally melts in your mouth. No chewing necessary.

Christmas is a great holiday — even if you don’t celebrate it! I love making sugar cookies all year. During the “festive holiday season” I bake batches and batches and have friends come over to decorate the snowflake, candy cane, Christmas tree, dreydel…cutouts with royal icing. I have had 3 cookie decorating parties so far this year and I’m sure there will be a few more evenings with friends, wine and piping bags filled with joy!

I think one of my favorite Christmas goodies would have to be iced sugar cookies from Sweet Al’s, a tiny little donut shoppe in my hometown. They make them year-round, but we only got them on special occasions, like Christmas. They made different shapes and it made them really fun (and tasty!) to eat as a little one. :-) Ahh, memories!
And by the way, that stuff is *adorable*!! I love that necklace.
Yucky green stuff–that’s what we call pistachio salad.
White chocolate cheesecake with cranberry glaze. It’s a great Christmas dessert.

1 1/2 c crush graham crackers
Dump into 8×8 pyrex, press flat
(that makes the crust)
1 cup coconut, choc chips, walnuts “dumped” over the butter/graham mix
1 Can Sweet Condensed Milk over all.

I like making Springerle Cookies. They are a traditional German cookie with anise flavoring. I use a rolling pin stencil to make the traditional designs and I go light on the anise for those who don’t like the taste. I can’t wait to start making them again this year! My grandmother used to make them, but back them we called them “pillow cookies” because they look like little white pillows!
