I love cake! And, by now you guys should know I love things little, too. So, I made some mini cakes using my new favorite moist yellow cake recipe. Actually I made 9″ cakes and used a round cutter
to make them mini. Two layers will get you six 3 7/16″ cake circles and two smaller circles. Here’s how one of the layers looks all cut up.
And here they are stacked. They’re so cute… even without any frosting. (Don’t worry the scraps made it safely to my tummy.)
But, who would serve a naked cake. So here it is fully clothed in luscious white buttercream frosting. Hold me back!
I started out making the fondant
covered cake that’s on the pedestal (inspired by a pillow fabric from an old Pottery Barn catalog. Yep… I love their stuff.) Then, I made the second one using decorator icing bags
and tips. Then I got tired and just slapped some buttercream all over the last one. And, I have to admit, I think it’s my favorite. But, tell me what you think.

Sassy: semi-casual, piped with pretty icing and flirty flowers
Classy: all dressed up with fondant cutouts and a smooth finish

Since I’m so dang ‘practical’, I have to go with Messy… it just looks sooooooo ‘edible’ and real and I really want to take a bite.

Wow! They are all so beautiful. I have to give you props for the fondant covered cake. That must have taken a long time and I know it’s a lot of work. Every time I think I have made up my mind on which cake I like the best, I change it. So I think I will take them all. Sassy, Classy, and Messy depending on what kind of mood I’m in. GREAT job! I only wish I could tastes them. :)

They are all great!!! Classy is really pretty to look at but I’m not a fan of eating fondant, messy looks the yummiest because of the piece cut out but I think my fave is Sassy because its beautiful and has buttercream icing!!

I like all 3, but I also decorate cakes. Well I did before I got “downsized.” Now I just do whatever I feel like, but with my 2 yr old around, it’s usually messy.

I love the Classy style (or I should say, the perfectionist, Martha Stewart gene in me loves the design and style of Classy), but when I do cake it usually ends up being Messy style, because I get frustrated when the perfectionist thing goes awry! I’m a big fan of fondant – so classy – but only if it’s marshmallow fondant. The Wilton stuff makes me gag. I love my fondant with almond flavoring!
