I love cake! And, by now you guys should know I love things little, too. So, I made some mini cakes using my new favorite moist yellow cake recipe. Actually I made 9″ cakes and used a round cutter
to make them mini. Two layers will get you six 3 7/16″ cake circles and two smaller circles. Here’s how one of the layers looks all cut up.
And here they are stacked. They’re so cute… even without any frosting. (Don’t worry the scraps made it safely to my tummy.)
But, who would serve a naked cake. So here it is fully clothed in luscious white buttercream frosting. Hold me back!
I started out making the fondant
covered cake that’s on the pedestal (inspired by a pillow fabric from an old Pottery Barn catalog. Yep… I love their stuff.) Then, I made the second one using decorator icing bags
and tips. Then I got tired and just slapped some buttercream all over the last one. And, I have to admit, I think it’s my favorite. But, tell me what you think.

Messy: casual and careless
Sassy: semi-casual, piped with pretty icing and flirty flowers
Classy: all dressed up with fondant cutouts and a smooth finish

I just like cake any cake… I prefer them to be pretty (and not looking like little kids have dipped their finger in the frosting) but I’ll eat them however they are decorated :) I’m not picky.

messy and classy are by far my favorites, with messy squeaking by to take the lead. and that’s because buttercream icing tastes so much better (usually) than fondant.

Well if I have to make it than definitely the messy one.
But if you are doing the decorating – I LOVE your Classy Fondant one. I am a disaster with fondant.
Really though I’d be happy with any of them they look great.
Sassy would be my first choice but because my skills are lacking messy is the way i go!!

I like Messy and/or Classy! My taste buds love messy because of all that yummy buttercream icing, but I also love the classy, finished look of the fondant. All three of your mini cakes are beautiful!

I would have to say, if I were restricted to one “style” for myself, it would be the Messy one. BUT, if I were choosing a cake from the three that you present to us here, I would go for Sassy, only because there’s more icing-y goodness for my mouth and tummy to enjoy.

Sassy. It reminds me of a flirty, twirly cotton skirt! I love the colors on the sassy cake. They are my wedding colors (ok, I’m not engaged, or dating right now…but my wedding is planned. I just need my Prince Charming!!!) Pink and Orange!!! I like the depth of the colors too. Nice work!

Mine is sassy…but I love the classic too! For lazy and hungry days though, I’d vote for messy :) Most of the time when I decorate cakes, I tend not to eat them because by the end of it,I’m usually too exhausted by all the clean up, so cake decorating actually helps me lose weight.
Baking by itself however, does not :) so when I’m in my baking mood, it’d be messy.
