I think I’ve been making this peanut butter fudge for at least the last ten years. It’s one of my favorites. It’s also the only fudge I’ve ever tried to make. Probably because it came out so perfect, I’ve never really been compelled to try another one. This is a soft fudge … and it’s like sinking your teeth into little sugar cushions. I love it.
I even posted about it when I first started blogging. (Here’s the post, don’t laugh.) But back then I didn’t do much other than show a photo and a recipe. I found the original recipe in a magazine, I’m pretty sure. I wish I still had it to tell you the source.
Anyway, I thought I’d take step-by-step photos of the process this year for you. If you’re nervous about making fudge, don’t be. This recipe is a breeze.
Prepare your ingredients in advance. Start with two bowls and place 1 1/2 cups sugar and 6 Tablespoons margarine in each bowl.
You’ll be adding evaporated milk in a minute.
You will also need 6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate pieces and 1/2 cup peanut butter.
You’ll also need one 7 oz. jar of marshmallow creme. I think I originally found this recipe from a Kraft ad, especially since the recipe I wrote down calls for brand names.
You’ll also need some heat.
Place one of the bowls of sugar and margarine in a medium pot and add 1/3 cup of evaporated milk.
Bring to a full rolling boil, stirring constantly. Seriously… don’t stop stirring.
Reduce heat to medium and continue boiling for four minutes stirring constantly.
Remove from heat and stir in chocolate pieces until melted and smooth.
Add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla and half of the jar of marshmallow creme.
Then mix the marshmallow with the chocolate until well blended.
It doesn’t take long.
And, you can do it right in the pot.
Then pour it into a greased 9 X 13 pan.
Yu-uh-uum!
Just spread it out evenly before it starts to cool and harden.
Then, clean your pot and beaters and get ready to go again.
Sugar, margarine, and evaporated milk.
Bring to a full rolling boil.
Reduce heat to medium and continue boiling for four minutes.
Remove from heat. Add peanut butter and stir until melted.
Add vanilla and remaining marshmallow creme.
And beat until well blended.
Then pour right on top of the chocolate layer.
And pour and pour.
Use your spoon to spread it all around and to cover the chocolate completely.
This is my favorite part.
Coerce the peanut butter layer right up to the edge of the pan.
Do this pretty quickly so you can get it even before it starts to cool.
When it’s cool, you can cut it lengthwise into evenly spaced strips.
Then turn the pan and make evenly spaced cuts again.
Then, cut in between those cuts for even smaller pieces of fudge.
I like the small size because you can get lots more pieces and also because one bite at a time is all you’ll really need.
This stuff is super sweet. And that’s saying a lot coming from me.
After I divide the pan into pieces, I like to make another cut all the way around the perimeter of the pan.
Mainly so all the pieces have straight edges, but also because this fudge usually gets given away – and this way I can eat all the scraps.
Win. Win.
FYI… I prefer to use a glass baking dish when I make this fudge. I think it’s easier to slide a small, thin spatula underneath to lift up the pieces from the pan. Take your time removing them so the layers don’t try to separate.
Peanut Butter Fudge

Enjoy! Hope you make some.
Ok. My fudge always comes out different. You either have to eat it with a spoon, or I have actually broken a plate trying to get a piece! So making any fudge make my fingers hurt from crossing them and hoping it comes out right! But. This looks so good and easy, Im willing to try again!! Will try not to cook with fingers crossed this time! And was so enthused with instuctions, totally missed green nails…had to flip back to see that!! Wish me luck, n thank you for good instructions with pics!!
Nevermind. Didnt fully read it!!! 1/2 a teaspoon. Got it!
I noticed you said to put Vanilla. Is that the Vanilla extract? & how much? Have to try this! Thanks for the recipe.
That looks delicious! i LOVE fudge!
This is delicious! Super easy to make and a crowd favorite.
My son has been asking for fudge since November. I tried a recipe but tried to 1/2 it and I dumped it. He loves PB and chocolate and he’s been asking me to sprinkle crushed Heath Bars on top… So guess what I’m doing today!! Thank u for this!!
hi there!i’m from Manila Philiipines and I’ve made this sweet and cute recipe.. it’s the first time that i will make sweet and i’m freaking nervous of what will be the taste of it..haha! successfully my 1 year old nephew super liked it and my husband too..i made it with real white marshamallow and a local peanut butter and viola..i have my peanut butter fudge for the first time….though I think I put a lot of sugar that it tasted super sweet…next time i’ll lessen the sugar and make more of it..thank you for this recipe..next thing on my list is the gumdrop..so excited for it and hope it turned out perfect.. : )
ooooo… im going to make these tomorrow!
Hi Bakerella! I had been wanting to make this recipe ever since first reading it, and I finally made this fudge today and it turned out so delicious. The texture and flavor is perfect. I didn’t make the chocolate bottom layer. Instead I doubled up on the peanut butter fudge, making it all at once in one pot. In a small bowl I melted 1 cup of seme sweet chocolate chips and a teaspoon of veggie oil, then once the fudge was poured into my glass pan, added spoonfuls of the melted chocolate on top and swirled it with a butter knife, making “Tiger Butter” style fudge. I set it for a hour in the fridge to get the chocolate to firm up, then cut it. It turned out soooo goooood! :) My hubby loves it too. I can’t wait to share this sweet stuff with my family and in-laws. Thanks so much for the great recipe!
Just had to tell you – I made this for gifts this Christmas…I loved it (at the scraps) and so did all of the recipients – I’ve even had a request to make this recipe again next year! Thank you for sharing!
hi, this looks amazing :)
i really would like to make this but i live in Australia and i’ve never seen marshmellow creme anywhere, is there a substitute i could use instead?
thanks,
Isis :)
Now I’m like, well duh! Truly tankfhul for your help.
Just found your site and somehow made my way to this recipe. I make just one fudge too. I also stopped trying to make fudge any other way because mine also was easy and turned out well the first time. BUT, that’s going to be something that, in the future, I will have to say in past tense because I’m definitely going to try this recipe. I just wanted to mention that as I was reading along with this recipe, you said, “Add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla and half of the jar of marshmallow creme.” and later, “Add vanilla and remaining marshmallow creme.” but you hadn’t mentioned vanilla earlier. I went back to the original recipe and saw you listed “1 tsp vanilla,” so that cleared up the mystery for me. Just thought I’d share in case anyone else was following the second post of this recipe and also went, “huh?” Also…your nails in these pictures are awesome! And I am a pretty good portrait photographer, but my food porn picture skills are nowhere near as good as yours. Do you use a manual or digital camera? What’s your F-stop and film speed? Are you actually taking the photos in macro to get that sharp focus on the front item and dreamy background look? Thank you! And congratulations on your book! What a dream come true through amazing hard work! I will be hinting broadly for it as a gift!
Is there anyway to substitute de marshmallow cream?
I find marshmallows in Venezuela but not the cream :S
btw, love your book! bought it accidentally on a trip! what an accident! :D I am dying to try it!
YUM! I made this today and oh my word, it was so fast and easy! Oh, and the best part was that it was so good! THANK YOU for posting so many good recipes! It’s so nice to be able to depend on your recipes to always turn out.
This looks delish! It reminds me of the peanut butter cup bars from browneyedbaker (http://www.browneyedbaker.com/2011/01/12/peanut-butter-cup-bars-recipe/). I have to try this recipe (any recipe with peanut butter is great :)
I’m from Australia and a bit disappointed that I now have to go searching for recipes to make ‘marshmallow creme’ :( Can anyone tell me if I melted marshmallows is it the same sort of stuff? Will have a look for a recipe and will post if I do, for those of us who can’t buy it.
By the way, so glad I stumbled apon your blog, so many things I want to make!! Wish I was that inventive!
Can you use natural peanut butter?
Oh woooow!!!! :)
And your nails are wow too ;), could you plz tell me what nail polish this is?? Thank you!!
I just made this and it turned out REALLY soft when it cooled. I think the next time I will use less butter. I popped it in the fridge and it hardened up enough to cut it.
I just have to make these! They look so good!
you had me at “make this”
… okay!
:D
I like this :
1 = it’s very easy
2 = it’s so greedy
loving the green nail polish! :D
Did you get this recipe from the side of the marshmallow fluff container? :)
If you line your pan with foil, you can pull out the fudge in one piece once it’s set and slice it outside of the pan.
Look at your cute green nails! How adorable. What color is that?
Wow this looks amazing! I love your green nails, by the way :)
A friend of mine and I made this last night on a whim. One of my better whims I have to say! This is delicious and so easy. We are now plotting to do different flavors with it (mint anyone?)
Thank you so much for sharing the recipe!
You want to know something crazy…..I was SO into the fudge recipe, that I never even SAW the green nail polish until after reading all the comments about green nail polish, and, had to go back and look at the recipe and instructions for making it,before I saw what they were talking about!!!!(Now,THAT’S bad)!!
When I make fudge, it works really well to line the pan with buttered parchment paper… that way I just lift it out and can cut it. Clean up is a breeze and cutting it is even easier.
Looks like a great recipe, I made an awesome pb fugde for Christmas Treat boxes, and was thinking about adding a swirl of chocolate next time!
What’s up with everyone obsessing over her nails? It’s just green nail polish. They sell it everywhere lol
This looks amazing! I made the chocolate brownie with reeses last night for a NYE party, so I am anxious to try these too!!
These look great! And I love your nail polish!
I just made this fudge and it might possibly be the best thing I have ever tasted! Seriously, so good! Thanks for the recipe. Happy New Year!
Just made it, waiting for it to cool so we can dig in… the excess on the spoon was delicious!
I got this recipe from you forever ago and everyone always asks me to make it! It’s so delicious!
I’ve made peanut butter fudge before and it always seems too chocolate-y which overpowers the peanut butter. Are these ones like extremely peanut butter-y?
just made this – waiting for it to cool! is it time yet!?!
Bakerella, we love you!
My 24 yr old nephew was visiting and I told him about your recipe and he stepped right up to the stove and made it for dessert! The laptop was open on the counter and I handed him the ingredients…and the best part was he let me lick the spoon! It was delicious!
This fudge looks rich and silky and creamy and perfect, I definitely want to try this one out!
Yum…that is all I have
I think this would be perfect for my Black and White Birthday Party! And it can be the stripe to compliment my black and white polka dot table cloth. Double score. Thanks.
I just love making fudge – the process is almost meditative and the results are always a winner.
As an added benefit, I find that when you give someone a gift of fudge you have an instant new best friend.
Thanks so much for the recipe – this fudge looks like some of the best!
You know I’ll be making some :)
ohhhhhhh yummy another yummy recipe…… tfs
hope you had a wonderful xmas
This looks awesome! I can’t wait to try this.
Wow! It’s times like these that I wish I wasn’t allergic to peanuts! This looks so yummy :)
Great Nail polish! and do you usually use a metal mixer in a non-stick pan?
Great Nail Polish!! and do you usually use a metal mixer in a non-stick pan?
You can actually make that recipe in the microwave, and it turns out just as delicious!!! There is no danger of burning anything when you go the microwave route. I don’t have the recipe in front of me, but I’m sure if you googled “kraft fantasy fudge microwave”, it would turn up. That is my favorite fudge recipe too, and once I figured out I could microwave it, I never went back to the stovetop!
When I make fudge, I line the pan with foil so I can just pull out the big block of fudge when it’s cool and cut with a butcher’s knife.
Yummy!!
There may not be a more perfect combination than peanut butter and chocolate. Delicious!
I so want to make this! it looks freakishly good. BTW, nice nails! electric lime green. :)
This looks divine!
It’s fate. It was meant to be. I was just searching the net for easy fudge – something that did not need a thermometer – they scare me! And voila!!
I just finished making it…..can’t wait till it cooled so I – ummm – I mean my family can devour it!! Thank you!
I have been looking for this fudge recipe for ages. I found the recipe in a magazine a long time ago (at least 20 years)and I believe it was called “Chocolate Peanut Butter Ribbon Fudge”.
Thanks for posting.
I love fudge. I usually make the never fail fudge (off of a marshmallow fluff container), but one of my friends has an aversion to marshmallow fluff so I am going to make Opera Fudge hopefully this weekend!
these look soooo good
That looks so yummy, but I was just wondering… Could I replace the evaporated milk with i.e. coconut milk? I’m a lactose-intoleranse AND they don’t even sell that stuff in my country in regular shops. Ethnic shops might sell it, but there are only a few in my hometown and I’m not sure if I have ever seen it there… Ah!
My dad makes a very similar recipe every year (starting around Thanksgiving and going non-stop until amost New Year’s Day) and he found his recipe on the back of the Marshmellow Fluff Jar. I don’t know if both the peanut butter and chocolate versions are there…but it tastes so delicious!
That is just the recipe I use for peanut butter fudge..for years because you can’t goof it up. And it’s sooo melt in your mouth delicious.
Have been enjoying your blog for a long time now, and so have many of my friends. Even your old post looks fabulous to me! Someone may have already made this comment, but… I think your recipe for the chocolate version is actually on the back of the marshmallow creme jars…called Fantasy Fudge. My mom has always used it, and I do, too. We just came up with the amount of peanut butter to add by trial and error. We don’t layer ours, but make both kinds each year. Great stuff!!!
After 87 comments, I don’t think you get to read mine….but I just wanted to say you, that I always get your post via rss, and always see them first in my phone (where I cannot see properly the images), and the first thing I do when I am back home is to put on my computer and check your web to see it all!!! Good luck Bakerella….:)
Is there any alternative to the marshmallow cream? I live in Australia and we don’t have that here…
This fudge looks amazing x
Great recipe! I can’t wait to try this.
Are those YOUR Fingernails?!? AWESOME…oh and so’s the fudge recipe! Thanks~
hey, i just want to let you know, that i visit you blog quite often and that i’m thankful for great inspiration and beautiful images. I hope it’s okay for you that i posted your link on my blog today!?Best wishes!!
I really enjoy chocolate fudge. I really enjoy peanut butter fudge. I really enjoy both chocolate and peanut butter together, yet I have never thought about making both chocolate and peanut butter fudge on top of each other.
Bakerella…bless you.
could I make this recipe with mini marshmallows instead of marshmallow creme? and if so how many cups would it take?
Since I was snowed in I was not able to make this today… By the way Angie I got your book. When will you be NJ again? I missed your last Book signing…
this looks delish!! i usually find fudge to be too sweet but i bet the peanut butter gives it a perfect balance.
Jennifer…I, too, use the Reese’s peanut butter chips…yummy! I love it!
Love the green nails! Very Christmas Tree-like!!! Happy New Year!!!
This looks divine! I’m always afraid of making fudge, but this looks easy and delicious.
There’s nothing better in the world than peanut butter fudge!! And yours looks so, so, so good!! :)
Just last week my recently teenaged daughter asked me, “Mom, why are you scared to make fudge?” Gotcha! Guess I’ll try this recipe for New Year’s and face my fear. Thanks! Happy New Year!
Yay! Thank you for posting an easy fudge recipe. I have been afraid to try making fudge again after the fudge disaster of ’08.
Nice nails!
Nice nails!
Nice nails and funny too.
OMG this looks sooooooooo good!! And I love your nail polish!
Bakerella–Did you notice the comments on your original post? You told someone it was an receipe on an ad from Kraft promoting the marshmallow creme! You were right!
Looks good too, by the way!
I am about to have lapband surgery and will miss sweets more than you know. But, it is worth it to be healthy. I will continue to bake and love your blog! Thank you!
Peanut butter and chocolate……two of my favorite things! Can’t wait to try these!
http://www.kraftrecipes.com/recipes/mr-peanuts-double-fantasy-90792.aspx
^ this is the original recipe. I found it =)
To everyone asking about omitting the marshmallow creme: I don’t know exactly if it will hurt it, though it may not stay together very good. Try google searching for a marshmallow creme recipe. I’ve found them before, though never actually used them.
This looks so darn yummy!!! Sure, Bakerella… go on… wave around your fudge in front of the pregnant lady ;)
PS my husband got me your Cake Pops book for Christmas – he’s one smart man!! lol
Yum! I’m not much of a fudge maker, but maybe i should remedy that?
Well if I could find proper peanut butter here in France, I would fudge all new year’s eve long. It does look very, very sweet but also so good. Thanks for the great idea!
This is an excellent step by step guide!!
Thanx! I’m gonna use this for new years celebration :)
Wowzers that looks incredible. My dad told me this holiday that his favorite thing is fudge, looks like I know what I’ll be making him for his upcoming birthday :)
Wow that looks soo good! othing better then the chocolate peanut butter combo! Thanks for the recipe, i will be making it soon!
yayyyy can’t wait to try it! thank you for sharing : )
Give me a tummy ache (in a good way) just looking at the photos. :)
Soo yumm!! This looks amazing!!!! I’ve had chocolate and peanut butter fudge before but not like this!
My husband LOVES fudge! My gram’s recipe is good but this looks wonderful, I think I will have to try it! thanks!
Just three years ago you had less than 60 comments. Now I’m sure you’ll get hundreds! Way to go! I got both your book and the big cupcake holder you talked about under the tree! Yay for me!
con que puedo reemplazar la crema de Marshmallow????
Being from Ohio, this is what we’d call Buckeye Fudge :)
Delicious! I love the different layers.
I always have problems with adding the chocolate pieces in. I can’t seem to find a way to stop it from burning : ( Help!
Love your nails, and love the look of this fudge! I’m pretty sure if I made that I would end up eating the entire pan. Peanut butter and chocolate is my fave combination.
excited to try this out!! :D i love your green nails, i’ve aked in those too hahaha ;) love the color!
looks delicious!
YUM YUM!
Oh, my I just swore off eating until 2012 now this!! thanks!
Fantastic! Im always waiting for your next blog to try out new recipes! Now to find somewhere in the UK that sells marshmallow creme so I can try it out! x
Wow! Looks delicious love the color of your nail polish very festive
I knew it!!! You really ARE one of Santa’s Elves! The green nails say it all, and it’s no wonder you’re able to keep such a hectic schedule…those Keebler’s got nothing on you! :)
Sounds easy and mouth watering. I’ll have to give these a try soon…just wondering, when you have a contest, where do we check to see if we were one of the lucky winners?
Happy New Year Everyone !
Mmmmmmm looks amazing :D The first and last time I tried peanut butter fudge was last Christmas ans I’ll be honest, it wasn’t that good. I think my expectations were too high :P But this recipe coming from you, I’m sure it’ll be a million times better than what I had before!! I’m so excited to try this out!!!
xoxo
Ai
Yummy! I got your book for Christmas, can’t wait to try them out!!!
Ah, this one looks so much better than the one I made last week. Just an excuse to make it again!!
This looks yummy! I bought your book yesterday and I love it. Congrats! It’s really beautiful. I’m off to the cake supply store this morning to get some supplies!
It’s so funny that you post this now because I do remember that original post and had planned on making some this Christmas, but was overzealous with my holiday baking ambitions…will definitely try for NYE!
love anything peanut butter and chocolate… and love your green nail polish:-)
i would love to make these..but I dont think i can find any marsmallows creme in Sydney..can I omit that? Or what can I substitute it with? I tried making a fudge before..and it was a DISASTER :(
Ooooh this looks great. I’m making this tomorrow, but I’ll use real butter (you couldn’t pay me to use margarine).
thanks for posting
Awesome. That green nail polish is just super awesome!
This looks so good:-D I don’t think I’ll be able to get either the milk or the marshmallow cream, but now I’ll be on a lookout, since I really want to try and make this.
i know it’s totally not what i should be focusing on, but i love your nail colour! ;)
I’m going to try this tomorrow since Iam snowed in. Nj is not my favorite state at the moment …:(
It’s funny you say you always make this one recipe because it was the first to cross your path and it works so fine.
Same with me, I’ve been making my white chocolate fudge for over ten years too and never tried another though I have a book full of yummy fudge recipes!
Looks yummy. Plus I LOVE your green nails : )
Yes, I think I WILL make these, Bakerella! I needed something transportable to take with me on a ski trip for New Year’s weekend and this sounds prefect!
Yummmyyyyy….my mouth got all watery! Lol
I’ve been making this fudge for so many years I can’t remember how long :)
It is wonderful!
Here a few tips you could use.
1. use real butter, makes it much more rich :)
2. don’t use beaters. just use the spoon you have been stirring with. Everything melts fasts and stirs together easy. this way you don’t have to get out and clean the mixer :)
3. line your pan with foil and add butter to it. then you can lift it out of your pan and the fudge comes off super easy. plus, no pan to wash :)
in your original post, you added a comment about where it’s from… which you could source it from?
“originally from an ad promoting Kraft marshmallow creme”
Looks delicious! Can you use butter instead of margarine?
My absolute favorite part of this post is the green nail polish. You are so darn cute!
Looks delicious! Can’t wait to try it!
yumm that fudge looks fabulous! i love the chocolate and peanut butter flavor combo!
Fudge always reminds me of Christmas, but it’s certainly delicious any time. This fudge looks so good! I’ll have to give it a try. Thanks
Is that green nail polish? Super cute :)
These are meant for a great sugar rush! Sinful :)
This looks very delicious. I’d like to try this, but I don’t think I’ll find any marshmallow cream here :(
Oh no, my secret’s out ! I have been using this recipe for years and always get raves. For my peanut butter, I use a bag of Reese’s Peanut Butter chips, and eating it tastes like just eating peanut butter cookie dough (with no salmonella fears!). No one in my family will buy fudge anywhere because it’s such a letdown after this fudge.
Just the other day my husband said, “Why don’t more people make this fudge? Is it that big of a secret?” Not anymore ;-)
i have 2 lbs of granulated maple sugar-any ideas how i can adapt the recipe to use it?
omg! those are sooo sinful to look at! mmmmmm….This is my next recipie!
This is the fudge I am going to be making this week. I am just making chocolate though. I got your book for Christmas and I love it!
I use sarran wrap to line the pan that way when it’s set I just lift the whole block out and cut :D
You can also butter your pan so the sarran wrap stays nice and straight.
Wow that looks amazing!! I can smell the fudge just by looking at the pictures! Thanks for the step by step photos. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas!!
Wow! This looks delicious! I’m going to have to make this soon.
I cannot wait to try this!
This looks off the charts amazing! YUM!!!
I just happen to have 3 jars of that Kraft Marshmallow Creme in my pantry, I think it’s fate. I really love peanut butter and choc fudge as well.
Yum!! I made peanut butter cups this weekend (pics on blog soon!). Who can say no to chocolate and peanut butter?? Also, love your festive green nails :)
This looks amazing! I’ve had chocolate and peanut butter fudge before, but not in different layers like this. I must try these!
This looks very much like the recipe I use (from the Jet-Puff Marshmallow Cream jar), but this year I decided to make an alteration to try something more … exotic.
3 cups sugar
3/4 cup margarine
2/3 cup evaporated milk
2 Tbsp lime juice
11 oz package white chocolate pieces
7 oz. jar Marshmallow Creme
zest of two limes
This may need to be tweaked a little, but it has received good reviews so far. :)
YUM! That looks so amazing! Fudge always intimidates me but this looks so easy.
This looks awesome! Thanks for sharing!
Mmmm I NEED to make these tomorrow!
dear Lord i WILL be making this! holy wow…and i just thought the Christmas treats were over ;)
Looks delicious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I actually might go make that right now… the kids are asleep and the husband is out!
