Oregon. Wow. Wow. Wow. You are so beautiful. What a greeting.
My friend Cupcake Julie and I spent this weekend at the Oregon Coast attending the first ever Oregon Coast Cake and Cupcake Camp.
It was a blast.
I gave a couple of cake pop classes during the event. Hi guys! You were all so great. Thanks for coming.
Chad and his wife practiced molding cupcake pops.
Alissa made a cute little owl. She’s good and determined, too.
Part of the class included a book and signing… my first one …FUN! Hey Sarah (at top) – Julie and I enjoyed hanging out with you. So glad you made the trip from California.
Celeste of the Nye Beach Market put the event together with the help of her super sweet friends and family.
Cupcake Julie instructed classes, too. Felt cupcake classes with cute little kits for all the attendees.
Here’s Dianna. She came all the way from Carlo’s Bakery in New Jersey to teach a few classes, too. She’s a hoot.
Also teaching classes were Charity Pykles-George and Michelle Bommarito.
All three of these ladies have competed in cake challenges on TV. Very cool.
The camp had some cute vendors, too. Like…
And Carrie of Bella Cupcake Couture.
And the cute couple that run Decorette Shop in Portland. They also donated all the sprinkles for my cake pop classes. Thanks!
These guys overwhelmed me. They drove 5 hours to get a book signed. And then turned right around and drove 5 more hours to get back home for work. I think you can tell by my eyes how moving it was.
Hi Jenasi! Love your cake. Congratulations on winning best birthday cake.
After all the cake and classes, came the cupcakes.
Handed out by cupcake volunteers.
Chocolate cupcakes…
Colorful cupcakes…
Little cupcakes…
Decadent cupcakes…
Cupcake. Cupcakes. Cupcakes…
Hundreds. Probably thousands of them lined up all the way around the room. Replenished every few minutes by more cupcakes.
And if that wasn’t sweet enough…
I finally got to meet my friend Jessie.
Cakespy Jessie!
You know… the creator of Lil Cuppie. Jessie and I have “known” each other since I first started blogging, but have never met. Finally this weekend we did. And she’s even sweeter than I imagined she would be.
Jessie came to the camp to give a kids class on watercolor painting.
I loved seeing all the different creations.
And the smiles!
All the kids had a great time painting.
Even the big kids.
Saturday afternoon, Charity and Dianna worked together to create an Oregon Coast themed cake. I was amazed by what they put together in such a short time. It was fun watching them work.
By the way… this was the view from our hotel. Not too shabby.
We ended the camp with a fabulous dinner from Arr Place with all the guest instructors, Celeste and new friends. It was great to spend time talking with everyone. Michelle Bommarito (top right) and Charity kept us entertained. So glad to meet everyone and to be able to call them friends.
The camp was a big success with the proceeds going to Donate Life Northwest. And I couldn’t be happier about it. Thanks everyone who came… donated… who planned… who taught… who volunteered… and who bought cupcakes.
Hugs! Big hugs.
Awesome! I wish i was there:)
I just did my first fondant cake ever last night. I FELL IN LOVE. I cant wait to expand this hobby, i just can’t wait! i would love to attend something like this and im from oregon, does anyone know if this will be annual?
Hello I am amazed by what you do, I run a blog in France and am trying to “democratize” cake decorating and such, Your cakepops are getting very popular here, even if you are not getting here the credit you deserve…
Would it be possible to publish an article about you and what you do? I would of course send you an english version for your approval first.
And if you would not mind to answer a few questions it would be great !
If I could be permitted to use some pictures of your work or book cover with of course credits and links tou your site clearly visible….
I would like to cover a brief history of cake pop & review for the growing number of french fans what to mix in with the crumb (can frosting is starting to get available here) but people are mixing them with stuff that should definitely not stay out of the fridge … yike.. etc…
If you find the time I would be so happy to be able to write about you …and I promise that unlike for my rough english, my french will be perfectly spelled !
hey there,
I have been a frequent visitor to your site for a long time but this is the first time I am writing to you . You are truly an inspiration for everyone and I am so happy for you for your well deserved success and wish all the best for a more sweeter and successful future .
I live in Dubai and am waiting for your book to come out here to grab a copy of it.
hi there Bakerella
I live in Israel and came across your website a while ago and LOVE IT! Now I go on all the time looking for the latest pictures, ideas recipes…I love to bake!
Obviously I will not make it to any of your book signings -though they do look like lots of fin – just wondering if there is any possibility that you would send me an autographed copy of your book. It really looks like lots of fun.

looking forward to hearing from you
that would have been a little cup of heaven.
ahhh i would have loved to be there!
I live on the Oregon coast and I did not hear about this. When is the next one?
I would have loved to have been there … I love cupcakes?
You are Truly the Queen of Cupcakes !
I’m looking forward to seeing you in our neck
of the woods sometime soon.
Wow this is great. I wish I lived there. I may not be a kid but I would love to go there and participate!
How exciting! When’s the next one, I’m so going to get a babysitter NOW. :)
Registration at a cupcake camp would be the perfect gift for my best friend. She’s trying to put herself through college and recently found out that she has celiac disease, but baking is the only stress relief she can find. If you have any information on future camps, especially gluten-free themed, please share! Thanks!
What a fabulous time you had…thank you SO much for sharing the pics with us!
Hi Bakerella – fellow Angie,
I chose to write my college folklore paper on you and the blogging/baking/online community. My paper will probably be posted on my e-portfolio at the end of the semester. That being said – are you okay if I use one or two images from your blog? I’m thinking about using one that displays a picture of the cake pops and the other picture would be a print screen of the over-all blog. It would be for strictly academic purposes but I wanted to make sure that was okay.
Thank you!!
-Angie W.
What a wonderful event! I am so happy for you. And you got to meet Jessie. She’s a hoot!
Laura

Oh, Bakerella! I can’t believe you were so close and I didn’t even realize it! My kids will be as excited as I am to know you were at their favortite spot, the Oregon Coast, so recently. We are such big fans and have been enjoying your amazing ride these past few years. Your book is TOPS of my Christmas wish list this year!

That looked like so much fun and so amazing! If you would ever consider coming into Ontario Canada (London, Toronto area) I would be the first to sign up for Cupcake Camp. Thanks for sharing your adventures and cupcake pop creations with us.
I love how your mountain photo looks like icing on a cucake! I drew a cupcake wrapper on your photo, but I don’t know how to attach it : (
Beautiful. Love all the beautiful colors from the cupcakes. Wow! From Carlo’s..Cupcake camp sounds like fun.
Cupcake camp….what a blast…I want to go to one too!
This looks like such great fun!! Did you ever imagine last year, when you were in line at Ree’s book signing that you would be doing the same thing, less than a year later? Incredible! And it couldn’t have happened to a nicer person!
When and where is your next cupcake camp. I would be very interested in signing up. I am thinking of opening a cupcake store and need some tips and practice !
I would love to attend a cupcake camp in Northern Virginia someday. I love learning new trends and recipes from other cake artist!
My daughter went to Cupcake Camp in New York. She had the best time. Think I’ll start saving vacation days so I can attend them.

I am still pinching myself that I was blessed to meet you and Julie last weekend. You are both such special people and you made me feel like a friend. Thank you so much for all you did! Thank you both for being such humble and genuine people. Bakerella, it was just so encouraging to hear your story and to see your sweet success blossoming into a huge bouquet of wonderfullness! My daughter Evelyn hasn’t put down the book since I got home. She has big plans for cake pops at a birthday party she is planning. I am making that RAD recipe for apple date cake today. YUMMY! Have a blast on your book tour and give Cupcake a hug from me. Love you guys, Sara
This is honestly my heaven
Hi – Loved the pix from Cupcake Camp. Do you think you could initiate such an event in the Atlanta area? I am particularly interested in having both students participate in the workshops, etc AND having others able to audit the classes; not all of us are up to decorating hands on, but would LOVE to watch, listen, and learn. Organ donation is an awesome sponsor/beneficiary of the event. I think Cupcake Camp has some awesome potential. Nuke
Great article and cute pictures. I am always amazed by the clever variety of cupcakes and cakepops! You are one of a kind!
coming down from Canada to see you tomorrow in Bellevue, sorry to have missed the great Cupcake Camp, maybe you will do one in Beautiful British Columbia one day!
Hi Bakerella, congrats for the camp! I’m from Argentina and I am a big, big fan yours, I am a mom, a food writer and a food blogger. This week I published one post referring to your wonderful cake pops, hope you like, you can use google translate for read me please. I hope meeting you some day in some cupcake camp!
Hugs
this looks so fun! wow!
Dear Angie,
Is there any way that I could email you? I was checking my Facebook when I saw familiar cake pops and it turned to be someone using your photos as their own and taking compliments for it and “their creativity”… I have been a HUGE fan of your blog for many years now and I couldn’t help to feel mad when I saw how shamelessly they steal your work…
What a fun event! I’m soooo jealous…I guess if I want an event like this, I will have to coordinate it myself ;) Ok, off to check out all of the cupcake links in your post! {btw – any book signing events scheduled for Michigan yet?}
JEALOUS!!!!!!! I’m from the northwest and lived in Astoria, OR
I need a cupcake camp in north Carolina!
Oh my goodness! Looks like you had soooo much fun! They need to have “camps” like these all over the country so we can all go too!
I am not the kind of person who would come to a cupcake conference – UNTIL I HAVE SEEN THIS… I would love to learn some of the techniques…especially with the gum paste!
:)
valerie
I’m thrilled that your trip to Oregon and Cupcake Camp was such a success! Thanks for the recap. Your ATL food buddies are cheering you on!
Cupcake Camp should be renamed Cupcake Heaven! :)
I know you get tons of questions, so I’ll make this quick: my cupcake liners always “pucker” when I fill them with batter and end up baking with weird indentations. :( Any advice would be awesome, thank you!
Oh, and snatching up oodles of “Cake Pops” for Christmas gifts. :)
Since my first visit to your site I was inspired by your words and teaching. Thanks for sharing.
I live in Brazil, we love cupcakes here too! I was proud when I saw that you wrote a book!
Cupcake camp! Great idea! Maybe one day I could go too…
Meg
Now thats’ the camp I’d like to go to. Where did they get that gigantic cardboard cupcake stand?
Looks like so much fun! I would’ve loved that!
Wish I could have been there. The Oregon Coast is indeed beautiful! Looks like a fabulous time was had by all. I wonder when my Bakerella book will arrive in the mail from Amazon – I can’t wait to read it! By the way everyone: don’t forget to vote for Jessie Oleson of CakeSpy for the Best of Western Washington Food Blog!
looks like so much fun…..now why didnt they have a cupcake camp when I was growing up..LOL
Now you tell us, after the camp is over . . .
Looks like amazing fun!!! I want to go to one!
What a great way to spend the weekend! Cupcakes, new friends, and the Oregon Coast! What could be better?!!Congratulations to you on your gorgeous book. It is wonderful!
My favorite part is the family that drove 5 hrs. for the book signing though I LOVE Michelle Bommarito & what I wouldn’t give for a watercolor class with Cakespy Jessie!
Please do this in Atlanta!!!!! I would love to attend (so would my kids) AND we have Joshua John Russel in town, another Food Network competitor (but I’m sure you already new that). Congratulations on all of your success!
Wow!!! Really look liked you had a blast! Like many others I want to go to a cupcake camp too! Please, oh please, come to the Washington, DC metro area for a book signing!

This morning my nursing school dean came up to me all excited because she went to cupcake camp! She kept telling me she wishds I was there because I am always bringing cupcakes to school! It would be so awesome if Cupcake Julie had a blog or a website or something with instructions on how to make all those ADORABLE cupcakes & cakes. I would love learn to make some for my daughter and nieces. A Cupcake Julie website would be equally as popular as your Bakerella site. We LOVE cake pops at our house!

What a wonderful event for such an important cause! I so wish I could’ve attended the Cupcake Camp, but I’m SO excited to meet you at Williams Sonoma in only a few hours!!!
WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!

Gorgeous! All of it! Though it looks like the Rocket Queen is wearing a cupcake skirt at first glance. You did miss out, though. I went to the Sugar Art Show here in Tulsa this weekend and they had some cupcake entries you would have enjoyed… and a cupcake booth where you could buy some! Yum yum yum…
Looks SOOOOOO fun! I wish there was one here in SF!! =)
Looks like you guys had a wonderful time at Cupcake Camp!!!! Also, kudos to raising money for such a wonderful organization. Cupcake Camp should definitely come to DC!
Thanks for supporting the Donate Life campaign with this fun event!
I thought I loved you before! My dad had a kidney transplant in 2003. He waited TEN years on the list with no bites. Through no fault of his own, just genetics, his kidneys started failing in the 70’s and he was complete renal failure by the 90’s. Because of all the toxins in his body, his heart and parathyroids and other important parts of his body began to fail. He’d endured approximately 50 surgeries before the transplant. Finally my teacher from college read a few of my papers I’d written about my relationship with him and even though she had six kids, decided she was determined to donate her kidney. It has been seven years and he is doing well, but organ donation is SO VITAL! I am SO impressed!!!! My family thanks you for having that table there just for awareness!!
I am so glad for people who care enough to share that message. My daughter is four is she is a total papa’s girl. Without organ donation I don’t think he would have lived to see her birth!!!!
Wow! Looks like it was so much fun. I miss Oregon so much… talk about making me home sick! I love Seaside (I think there is a store there completely devoted to gummies– atleast I hope it’s still there) and Mo’s at Cannon Beach has awesome chowder! If there are plans for next year, I so totally want to go :-)
What a wonderful wonderful event!!!! My dream is that one day you might come to the East Coast (close to NH at least) to do such an event….would love to meet you in person! :-)
It looks like you had such a great time. I can’t wait for a cupcake camp to come our way in Atlanta….I’ll be your first one to sign up! Love ya!
That looks like SO much fun!!
From your first blog…. to the “funnest” life ever! :-) Thanks for sharing all of these great adventures you enjoy.
The Oregon coast is SO beautiful. And the cupcake camp looks like so much fun!

Congratulations on your success, and I am hoping Santa brings me your book-
I really wished I could have come but just not enough time to get away, I am glad you enjoyed the coast, maybe next time you can come to wallowa lake, you would really like it here.
Glad you are loving our beautiful state! I am leaving in a few minutes to drive up to Portland for your book signing – cannot wait!
I sure hope you do this again..how lucky are we that you were in Oregon — both the coast and later today at Washington Square. Looks like an awesome time this weekend and can’t wait to meet you in person at the mall in Tigard! ;)
How do I contact Cupcake Julie? I would love to know if she sells her kits to make the felt cupcakes. My daughters have a cupcake christmas tree, Julie’s felt cupcakes would make a great addition to their tree this year :)
Looks like a wonderful camp! Cheers to your success in
doing what you love! It can’t get much better than that!
~Heidi
