Hope you scream over these Halloween Cake Pops. (Frankensteins, spiders and werewolves, oh my!) These spooky sweets are sure to get you in the spirit.
All of the cake pops were hand-shaped and use the following sweet supplies:
Edible ink pens
Lollipop sticks
Chocolate candy melts (werewolves)
White candy melts (mummies, ghosts, skulls)
White candy melts tinted black with candy color
Orange candy melts (pumpkins)
Green candy melts (Witches, Frankensteins)
Purple candy melts (Witches, Frankensteins, Monsters, Bats)
Black licorice wheels (spider legs and witch hair)
Chocolate morsels (kitty ears)
Oreos (witch hats)
Hershey Kisses (witch hats)
Mini m&m’s (Frankenstein noses)
Tic tacs (Witch nose and pumpkin stem)various sprinkles
Paramount crystals (used to thin some of the candy melts)
Various shaped sprinkles for face details.
Squeeze bottles (for candy coating)
Candy writers
toothpicks (helpful in applying small amounts of coating to act as the glue)
plastic bowls
Half of them were red velvet cake and cream cheese frosting inside and the other half were pumpkin cake and cream cheese frosting. The pumpkin was okay, but I liked the red velvet taste better. Something about the pumpkin and candy coating together didn’t float my boat. Maybe I should just do a book for you guys… then I could have all my how-tos in one place. Now, without further ado, here are my Halloween Cupcake Pops:
Werewolves you can sink your teeth into. (These might just be my faves!)
Frankensteins that I forgot to add the bolts onto.
Black Cats. Eat them if they cross your path this Halloween!
Bats don’t have to be black, but I do think these need some fangs.
Which witch? Smiling or angry?
One-eyed purple people eaters! (and some two-eyed ones too.)
And finally, a couple of horror movie cake pops.
Scream!!!! It’s Jason!
Hope you guys all have a frightfully fun Halloween!
Oh yeah, here are some Halloween cupcakes that I did last year if you’re interested.
bmommy – thank you!
Koala Green – hope the kids love them.
bern romano – You’re crazy! They look great!
If you’re not using them already, try the americolor brand pens.
I tried to make the halloween cake pops and ran into a few problems. Some of the chocolate crystalized, the chocolate wouldn't thin enough and I had to "spread" it on the pops, my food markers wouldn't work on the chocolate so I had to "paint" the chocolate on to make some of the face features. But all in all, I'm happy with how it all came out. Click here to see a picture http://www.kodakgallery.com/Slideshow.jsp?mode=fromshare&Uc=o0c61sa.712ht0fa&Uy=-hdzkfq&Ux=0. Bakerella, all your stuff looks awesome and you make everything look so easy! Please write a book so we can all learn your tricks!
These look so cute. I hope to make them next week for my kids classes! Thank you!
Ah freakin dorable…Love your website!!
vallie – I’m glad you found them easy!
I just made halloween Cupcake Bites with your recipe! They are so cute, it was so much fun and a lot easier than I thought it would be. Pictures are on my blog.
Thanks for the recipe Bakerella!!
Here’s a link to some chocolate basics:
Could you have gotten any water/moisture in your chocolate?
This has happened to me. I notice it with the round cake pops. It doesn’t happen with the cupcake pops for some reason. It makes me think that it could be related to the size / amount of coating on the ball … weight of it. I need to experiment more to narrow the cause, but check this out.. It may answer some ?s.

Bakerella Please HELP, I have made your cake pops several times now always a hit. Today I was making pumpkins, and they looked great but as they where drying they were cracking!!! What am I doing wrong, I had chilled the cake pops before coating but I always do that
Can you tell me what to do
rigby ericksons – I used a squeeze bottle to outline and fill in the bat wing shapes on wax paper. Once dry, I glued them with more of the melted candy. Be careful. They are really fragile.
marycake – ok ok ok
Holly – Thanks Holly
RecipeGirl – YAY!
Prudy – they’re pretty easy
Jen – Yes, I use the Americolor brand.
Mary Lou Weidman – Thanks. Glad you think so.
Andrew Abraham – I’ll take a peek.
Lalaine – Thanks, that’s nice of you!
jane – Hope they make you a bunch!
unicef will make a fortune at our bake sale on thursday… thank you so much! off to get the ingredients.

Thank you.
Mary Lou Weidman
are those the exact edible pens that you use? I found a couple at the stores around me and they dont seem to work on the candy. Thanks!
Here is my attempt at your super cute Halloween pops!
http://pellizzari.blogspot.com/2008/10/halloween-pops.html
I love those cake pops. I’m definitely going to give the mummy a go.
These are so cute and creative I did some simple pumpkin cake pops on my blog today. Take a peek! :)
So cute!! The mummies and the ghosts are my favorite!! :)
I honestly have to say that your work is some of the best I have seen. Write a book! Write a book! Write a book!
By the way, I posted them on my blog, if you’d like to see my finished product, check it out. They aren’t as cute as yours I’m afraid.
I tried these yesterday and they turned out so cute! Thanks so much for the idea. You are very creative! I think I will try some again tomorrow. My daughter really wants me to make the bats, but I’m not sure how to do the wings. What did you use?
Cosmo – thanks!
malin – what?! You’ll love red velvet cake!
Anonymous – you may have gotten water in your chocolate.
Paul and Dennise – the main reason to remove the edges from that cake was because they were hard when baked. As far as the chocolate, you can use a few drops of oil to thin it out.
Jess and Jen – It does make things easier!
Cakespy – Oh, I did! I did!
barbichounette – merci!
awoz – thank you!
Sara – in a styrofoam block or in a dish filled with sugar.
and
when I put them in the freezer, if they are round, I insert the sticks and place them on a tray upside down. For the cake pops, they are only in the freezer to firm up. Once the stick is inserted, they don’t need to go back in
These are fantastic! I read through the above comments, and I have a few questions that I don’t think have been asked yet:
First, how do you serve them? Do you stick them in something so they’re standing up, or do you put them in a glass, or…? And similarly, if you stick them in the freezer before doing the melted chocolate, how do you keep them upright?
Thanks! I’m looking forward to trying these for Halloween! :)
Your scary pops are gorgeous, just gorgeous.
What a crafty and talented person you are…
Great work!
Extra !!!!
Quel travail !!
Bizzzzzzzzz
Barbichounette
Bakerella, as a serious fan of both horror movies and sweets, I must say, these guys just made me melt! Even better I can tell you had so much fun making them!
I made some orange and brown Halloween cupcake bites and put them on my blog if you want to take a peek! I LOVE using the candy mold for the bottoms!
http://jessnjen.blogspot.com/2008/10/halloween-is-coming.html
Fabulous! Your creativity is endless! I just had to make these too…however, I had a problem with the cake/icing mixture. It was dry, and I had added the whole can of icing. I did go to the Martha site, and noted that her instructions tell you to cut around the perimeter of the cake abut 1/2″. This could be causing my problem. Also, I am not having a lot of success with dipping the cakes into the candy coating…is there a way to thin out the bark without ruining the white chocolate? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Dennise
HELP!!!! The candy coating is cracking after it has set. What am I doing wrong? Have used this for other items with no problem.
Any ideas??
Those look amazing, I am definitely gonna try some of them out for Halloween.
I’ve never ever tried red velvet cake though. The idea of a red cake sort of scares me… A bit. O.o

Then after they are rolled, dip the stick in some coating and stick in ball, keeping the sticks in the air. They need to be inserted in straight and not at an angle. Then put in the freezer for a few minutes to firm up. Take one out at a time so the others remain firm and dip in your coating. You can also try holding the bowl at an angle and rolling the sides in the coating and then the top. Gently Move the pop from side to side until the coating slides around the bottom side of the pop. If it does not make it all the way down try tapping it slightly to help make it smooth dowm. You can also use a toothpick to direct the coating. It needs to completely surround the base of the stick for support.

WOW! I love them ALL! How creative!!! And too stinkin cute!
Ok, just when I think your creations can’t get any cuter…they do! I think I like the mummies the best. Hey, I’m a simple gal! And yes, you should have your own book :)
These are fantastic..! I will try to make Halloween cake pops my own.
Ok, I tried…I really did try to re create these (this is my 2nd time) I don’t know what i”m doing wrong, after I chilled the “dough” and rolled into balls I put a lollipop stick inside I tried to dip it into the chocolate and the lollipop stick fell out. I let the chocolate cool a little bit, I put the “dough” into the freezer with the lollipop stick hoping it would stay together and they sill fell apart! HELP! What am I doing wrong, can you give me any advice, I want to try them again!
Wow those are so amazing! my favorite is the one eyed purple people eater, theyre soo cute! thanks for the post

Oh I love love love these!!! what an amazing idea!
Oh my gosh! Will someone come watch my 9 month old for 2 days so I can try to make some? Better yet, just mail me a few!! So cute!
Oh my is right!!! These are adorable. I think the skulls are my favorite….no, the mummies,… no, the movie pops….hmmmm…..
Those are amazing!!! I wish I had the time to get that detailed!! I thought it was funny how last year, for the cupcakes you only had 3 comments… This year you already have 83!! You’ve come a long way! Congratulations!
There is no end to your wicked imagination, is there?! I want to be Bakerella when I grow up! :)
YES! You totally should make a book on your cake pops! I would buy it in an instant. It would be so helpful to have the directions in print so im not running from my archived posts!
I made my first attempt at cake balls this weekend. I made them about twice the size without a stick and they were a hit.
Also — You said the pumpkin didnt mesh well with the candy.. perhaps a chocolate coating would be good! I was thinking about that this weekend :)
Well if these aren’t the cutest things I’ve ever seen. You are so talented. They are all too cute, I can’t pick a favorite. I think I will have to make the jack o lanterns for Halloween.
I was thinking of making some of your pops for a Halloween party and I love the ones you put together! Way cute! I was thinking of doing red velvet and white coating, like eyeballs or something. How did you make the eye on your one eyed purple monster? Could you give me a hint? And definitely think about a book, I love all your pops you make and it would be awesome to have a book to reference in my kitchen, so I don’t have to run upstairs every time. Plus, we would all buy it and you would be a millionaire. Thanks!
I love your little cupcake pops and attempted them this weekend, however mine where a flop! What is the secret? I think my cake was too moist because they tasted as if the cake had never been baked… HELP!!!
Luv the mummies..they look like something I COULD DO!
I have made the “cupcake” balls and they always get rave reviews!
I have even have people offer to pay me and make them for their party!!! I havent committed to it;) I do have a full time job outside the home too!
I now have to bring them to every party-by request.
Thanks for all your tips, recipes, and creativity!

Happy Halloween! xo

OMG those are adorable!!! I can just imagine how amazing a Halloween party at your house would be :)
Cute…cute..cute…
I just want to tell you how much I enjoy your beautiful creations.
I love in Angola – Africa, and unfortunatelly, cannot find the ingredients here (maybe I’ll bring some from the US in Jan!!!).
But visitiing your site always bring a smile to my face.
thanks for sharing!
These cake pops are fantastic! They are so adorable! Too cute and perfect for any Halloween event!
oh my goodness, they look frightfully adorable.
I just KNEW you were going to make some fun cake pops for Halloween! I have been waiting to buy supplies until you posted them. Thanks for doing so a few weeks in advance of Halloween. That way I’ll have time to mess up a few batches while trying to figure out how to make them look like that, although they’ll never be as cute as yours!
wowzers! these are just about THE awesomest things i have seen for halloween, ever!!
WOW!!! I love them. Great work!
Love them! Seriously it’s time to write a book about cupcake pops!!! Amazing
You are AMAZING with these pops… I love them!
The werewolves and black cats are ADORABLE. So cute!
couldn’t wait to see what you’d do for Halloween. Love ’em. I think I’m going to make eyeballs.
BTW Tamara – it could be the brand of melts you are using. I have no luck w/ Wilton candy melts.
Try Merkens candy melts.
My nieces would go crazy over these, sweetie!! So adorable!
LOVE them! I going to have to dig out some baking supplies this afternoon and give this a try!
You are so brilliant!!!
Very cute….I’m going to have to do a few of these for our Halloween party! Did you use the Make n Mold melts or the Merckens melts?
You’ve got mad cupcake skills.
I love them all!!! Too creative Bakerella, keep em coming!
these are so awesome!!!! and yes – i would also buy that book :)
Those are awesome. I would definitely buy your book. I have a question for you. I want to make these for a Halloween party I will be having for my kids. Can you only use red velvet cake and cream cheese icing?
Misty
WOW!! I think these are my favorites yet!! I love all the different designs! If you write a book I will be the first to pre-order it! Promise!!!
Can’t wait to try these out with the kids!
Those are amazing! Love them all. My kids are loving the one-eyed monsters.
You’ve OUT DONE yourself! These are the cutest CAKEBITES I’ve seen you make so far! Well, they’re ALL cute but these one’s are pretty AWESOME! If you gave me one, I don’t think I could eat it. I’d want to save it and look at it!
Congratulations! I love them ALL! The pictures are awesome too!
You have to be the most patient person on earth. Those were bootiful! The one-eyed purple people eaters I could possible tackle, just too clever.
wow your amazing!!!
As always, you did an impeccable job! How do you keep your chocolate from pooling at the bottom? It is so smooth!
you are awesome!
omg! i love the wolfman! how did you do the fur?
these are really awesome! you’re the cupcake pop/bite/bit queen!
These are soooo cute! I am impressed!!! Wow~
Amazing! I was going to say Frankenstein was my favorite, then as I kept scrolling to see each one, they are all too cute to pick a favorite. Love the witches and their chocolate hats. Such talent! I love that each one is unique, too.
Love them all but “Mummy Dearest” is the best!

These are absolutely Spooky-Cute!!! I’d have to say that the purple people eaters are my favorite…..Happy Halloween.
woww how cute. If i can say that since they re not supposed to be cute right ?? You re great.
These are so cute! My brother’s birthday is on halloween, he’ll be 18 so I should make him so of these!
I agree with gingela5 though, you should do a book, you’re so creative!
These are so adorable!!
I have tried making your cakepops twice before and I can never get the chocolate coating right. I think my chocolate doesn’t melt enough and becomes a big mess when dry (top running down the sides). Also it looks nothing like a cupcake.
I have done the double boiler method and microwave. I use the Wilton candy melts.
What am I doing wrong??
Thanks! :-)
deliciosamente terrorificos
Loooooooooooooo! These are my favourite pops ever! So cute!!!!
those are amazing. I would love to do these, not sure if I can find the materials here in Hungary, but I am going to go look!
I wow these looks absolutely fantastic! They must have taken you ages.
you must have been working hard to make all those!!! I almost wished we celebrate Halloween in Australia
Please make a book! I can’t get enough of your ideas! I am going to try the Halloween cake pops later this week….wish me luck.
Wow the attention to detail is amazing! I actually dressed up as a one eyed one horned flying purple people eater when I was about 9 years old. My mom was kind enough to help me make the costume- because as you can guess, we couldn’t locate one in a store!
Your cupcake bites are just absolutely adorable!!
oh wow! just too cute! how do u find time to do these? amazing!
You outdid yourself with these! I love each one of them!
LOVE the halloween theme! I might make these for my daughters halloween party at school! What did you use for the tops of the pumpkins to make them green? Is that the top of the lollipop stick pushed through and colored or dipped in Chocolate, or something else added. ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE!!! You should make a book with all your neat ideas and recipes!!! (If you haven’t already!)
These are soooooo fun! I look forward to seeing your new creations. They are all fantastic. I cracked up when I saw your movie horror guys.
These are just too cute! You are my inspiration to do fun treats for Halloween. I would love for you to do a book – I always get the urge to make goodies once I check out your blog. The one with the chocolate chip cookie pie? I made it the next day…
Oh my goodness! I love them! I was so excited to make orange and brown cupcake pops for Halloween, but now those seems so boring after seeing you cute and oh-so-creative ones!
They are AMAZING!!! I love Halloween and I am so going to make these!!!
Thank thank you so much
Little cake pops? Brilliant.
It’s the first time I’ve ever heard of it. A mouthful of cakey goodness… I’m in love!
You’re so talented, and I would definitely buy your book too. x
Oh these are just too cute!
I had JUST finished my list of things to buy to make jack-o’-lantern cupcake pops, when I clicked on your blog and lo and behold…OF COURSE you beat me to it, and WAY BEYOND!!! I love the witch! You’re too much!!! :) You must have had a very busy evening!
So cute! I think I love all of them! You really should do a book! I know I’d buy it!
Absolutely Adorable! My two favorites are the skulls and the purple people eaters (they’re almost too cute to eat!)
I have finally gotten up the nerve to try to make these. I’m going for the little cupcake truffle like things instead of the pops. Wish me luck!
