… with sprinkles!
Blue ones…
Yellow ones…
Colorful ones…
I’ve been wanting to make a sprinkles display for my kitchen for a while now and I finally found this spiceless spice rack that was perfect. It even has a handle so I can carry it around easily. If you want to make one too, and you already have a rack, here are some plain bottles you can use to fill with whatever sprinkles you like.
P. S. I guess I have a thing for bottles. Here’s another display I have. When people come over, they ask me why I have so many spices in my living room. Then I tell them to get a little closer.
I have about 100 beaches from around the world. It’s pretty cool because they are all surprisingly different.
So think outside the box, or bottle in this case and spice things up.
Where to buy:
Spiceless Spice Rack from Amazon. I have also seen it at The Container Store, but it’s been a while.
Plain bottles for sprinkles if you already have a spice rack.
I’ve recently found the sand bottles at Hobby Lobby and The Container Store (plastic ones).
BakingBliss – yes, seductive sprinkles.
RoSco – thanks for your perspective. It’s actually been several years since I have even added to this collection. I’ll think about what you said next time I go to the beach. And I really need to go. It’s been a while. In reality, I probably had more sand in my bathing suit than in one of those bottles though.
I know it’s a neat little souvenir to take with you, but as a person who lives on an island, I’d really like to discourage you from taking even little quantities of sand or soil with you. I have personally seen receding shorelines of up to 10 feet in as many years on the small Pacific island on which I grew up. The state of Hawaii gets millions of tourists annually and – between that and the erosive effects of the tides – if everyone took a half cup of sand it wouldn’t take long before there are no beaches left.
I know it seems like a small thing – only half a cup – but looking at your collection altogether, you’ve got quite a bit of land on display. In addition, almost 200 people have commented on how neat this is, many of them wanting to take it up themselves (not to mention the readers who didn’t leave comments). Again, I know you may think you’re not doing any harm, but no single raindrop believes it’s responsible for the flood. Things add up.

It’s like sprinkles porn!
I’m absolutely in love with that idea…and I love the sand too. I have a very small collection of sand in jars myself.
Raquel – that’s awesome. I like people that get thing’s done. It makes you smile when you look at it, too… doesn’t it?!
I already copied your idea and did my sprinkles rack! Thanks, you ROCK!
rach – Thanks. I would much rather have some sand than someone spending money on me for a souvenir.
Scoopalicious – I was super-happy with them.
Kimberly – thanks!
i love both displays….very cool
these are beautiful photos!
These are to die for cute! And what a creative and cheap keepsake from vacations. You are so creative!
April Nicole – I’ve got a lot of mine in the dining room right now.
Ju Bear – tragic. Good luck with your benefit sale.
Banana-head Pancake – Thank you!
that’s an amazing collection – I LOVE it!
nice work!
Bakerella,
Thanks for sharing your talent of baking. Your amazing and super duper creative. I wished you lived closer, I’m having a boutique benefit sale for a couple who were involved in a plane crash. I would love to sale some of your baked goods. Well take care and bake on!
I love the idea of the sprinkles display. I keep all my baking stuff in a rolling cabinet in my spare bedroom.
I am just in awe of how amazing your photos look. Mine always turn out awful.
Elizabeth Bailey – Glad you like it.
staria – I wish I lived on a tropical island so I could take it for granted, too!
Melissa DiStefano – well, my spice rack is at least.
KBG – we’re not crazy. we’re creative.
I thought I was alone with collecting beach sand! I don’t have it from as many beaches as you, and I keep mine on display in the bathroom, but it’s good to know I’m not the only crazy out there collecting sand from beaches!
Oh my goodness! This is the cutest thing ever. I want to go home right now and start one of my own. Your house my be so vibrant and colorful. I love it!
The sand idea is awesome! Never occurred to me, I guess that when you live on a tropical island one can take such a nice thing as sand for granted.
btw, I see some sand from Puerto Rico…. hope you had fun here! :D
I love your blog — amazing photos and wonderful inspiration and ideas!
I never thought of checking out ikea. I bet they would have some cool bottles.
i love your beaches, i’ve just started doing this but i ubber love your bottles!
I think ikea is the answer to my bottle search :)
thanks for showing us your collection :) x
Elizabeth – cool.
giz – good idea!
BMoreSweet – Nah, she’s got me beat by miles.
Kate – Good reason to go somewhere fun!
MB – YAY!
fivegreatkiddos – Well, I guess you don’t like the idea, because I have had help from traveling friends.
Little Miss Contrary – You are too kind.
Amylouwho – thanks!
CakeEater – Sounds interesting.
Angie – thanks!
Tucker, Jess, and Brian – glad you like them
Rebecca – thanks! I’ll check it out.
benson – and cheap, too!
sue – You’re welcome!
j*amy – I get them from different places. I put a link in an earlier answer on where to find the chips.
Victoria – Then, that makes me happy!
Anonymous – That’s funny, tell them I said Hi!
Katie – OMG. You are the super cutest! Thanks for sharing the pic!
The Flirty Girl – thanks for the shoutout!
gina – thanks!
Anna – thanks
Rockaroo – I like organization. Even if I’m not always organized.
ccolopy – welcome and thanks!
shirley elizabeth – The only brand I use that really works is the Americolor brand. I’m not sure what you are decorating or how you are using the pens, but you could use your candy melts to draw with. Just melt them and pour into a small squeeze bottle to use.
Lina – Happy collecting.
oh my god! I loooove the idea of collecting sand! I am a big traveler and this would be a wonderful way to keep my memories! Im stealing this idea for sure!
EMERGENCY!!
For the cake balls: I got the candy melts and the edible markers, but they won’t write on the ones I’ve dipped so far — they’re too waxy. What do I do??
Just found your blog…LOVE your work, just totally cool!
You are brilliant! I love the photos and how you’ve organized everything, just brilliant!!
Wow! Now I want to see a photo of the whole room to see how you worked those bottles into the decor. What a fabulous/personalized/great idea!
Great ideas!!!
Now that’s eye candy! You have me so inspired any day now I’m going to bake some cupcakes!
BTW I honored you blog as one of my five favorites with an Uber Blogger Award yesterday (11/9) so that I could share your super yummy blog with my readers. I borrowed one of your pics for the post. I hope that’s ok. If not just let me know and I can remove it asap :o)
Who knew sprinkles could be so beautiful! I also jar things, but they’re hidden away in my cabinets. I need more shelf space!
I got the shirt this morning. Thank you so much! It’s adorable and fits so well. I put a picture of myself wearing it on my blog:
http://lilveggiepatch.blogspot.com/2008/11/monday-funday.html
My kids want me to click on you blog EVERYDAY just so they can see all the pretty colored sprinkles!!
Your blog………ROCKS!!!!!!!!

Fabulous idea with the sprinkles!!! Love it!
This may sound nuts, but I am inspired to use this as wall-art in my daughter’s room. Of course, they’d need to be sealed for bugs, but they just look so fun!
Wow – this is so cool! What a great idea for your sand collection!
And I LOVE the blue sprinkles. I want a sprinkle display too!
You are AMAZING at life. I wish I were that creative!
Super Fun!
I love the sand from the beaches idea, but only if you’ve actually been to those places and taken a little momento to remember it by. Have you been to 100 different beaches?
You are so creative!
Fivegreatkiddos

I am totally starting my own sand collection! That’s great. I hope you don’t mind, but I posted the pictured on my blog!
The beach sand display is the most clever, original, awesome thing I’ve seen in forever. OMG, you are blowing Martha out of the water, girl!

This is such a cte idea and I’m gong to have to follow suit!
Gretchen Noelle – thanks!
* TONYA * – Oh good.
Eveline – not yet.
Amber – dust?
Tammy – I probably got more sand in my bathing suit than I put in the bottles. Thanks for the perspective though.
Derick and Becky – It’s hard not too.

I’ve been a reader of your blog for about 6 months and never left a comment… until now. I am IN LOVE with your photography. The sprinkles picturs are amazing. I am slowly getting into photography and your pictures always give me inspiration to look for a different angle.
Where did you get the colorful sprinkles that look like chocolate on the inside, i love them! I love your site and i love your stuff, i totally put that spice rack on my Christmas list!! YOU ROCK
congrates on winner 3rd place with your cupcake, Double Chocolate Zucchini Cupcakes filled with Chocolate Ganache and Topped with Creamy Goat Cheese Frosting
Bakerella, can I just say that I think you’re an awesome writer? As I read your last post I had visions of Dr. Seuss and his Red Fish Blue Fish. Your combinations of words and pictures – that must be why I keep coming back. Thank you!!
I love the sand bottles! What a great way to save a little moment in time from your travels. My kids save rocks, plain rocks. It is hard to tell where they came from but I think that part does not bother them, they just think its fun. I am going to show this to them and maybe we will start a new way of remembering where we have been.
The bottled beach sand is a BRILLIANT idea. You’re so talented.
Oh the ‘sprinkle’ rack is brilliant and the sand in a jar idea? Gorgeous.
That is fabulous! I can’t wait to ‘spice’ up my little apartment kitchen too. How creative.
Question for you though, how long do the ‘spices’ stay in their containers. Since they are sugary, I didn’t know if the sprinkles tend to stick in the jars or not. Thanks for sharing!
I have a question…where did you find the plain bottles with the metal lids instead of the white plastic lid?
I have a thing for plastic boxes… totes of all sizes for all kinds of things to be put away in.
I don’t know if I could make a display like that because I would EAT all my sprinkles all day long! I love the display though, it is heaven! I like sprinkles!!
I love your site and ideas but, as an ecologist, I just have to say that it’s a very bad idea to take sand off the beach. It contributes to erosion and can disturb the many (microscopic) creatures living there. I know that “it’s just a little” but imagine if everyone took a little jar of it. Actually, many people do, and it does cause problems. Sorry to be the rain on your comment parade.
What a neat idea!! I love the idea of a sprinkles rack!!
The beach idea is so cool! I just have mine in water bottles, this will be so much nicer!! I would hate to have to dust all of them though!
The beach sand in the containers look great. Do you have Dutch beach sand too?
I like the colors of all your sprinkles together, great idea.
Eveline.
What a fantastic idea. I’m so doing this.

The sprinkle idea is adorable!!! and the beach sand is awesome, have you visited all those beaches, or have friends help gather them for you? I love your blog!
Awesome!Thanks for sharing!
Cool! My mother was born in Giovinazzo. We live in Rhode Island now, and when we go to the beach she talks about the rocky coast where she grew up.
I think I just fell in love with your blog. So inspirational! And I LOVE the sprinkles!
Fantastic! I love your sand collection.
I just wanted to say… I love you!!! I saw you on Martha a while back and I couldn’t find you back… well, today while searching for cake balls via Google (HA!) I found you! WOO HOO!! Gotcha added to my list of blogs, too. :)
WOW!!! I love the idea of a sand collection. AMAZING!
That is the most amazing sand collection I’ve ever seen (I collect rocks but never labeled them…)
AWE-SOME!
I love, love, LOVE your beach bottles display!!! How cool that you not only have something to keep from each place you have visited, but a great way to display it all as well. I am so impressed!
Oh Bakerella! I want to be you when I grow up… or at least have time to bake more. The sprinkles are an amazing idea! I am going to do that and I wish I had thought of the sand. very cool.
You are very cool! :-)
there are too many good things in this post to comment on!
love the sand display. love. it. so. much.
Wow!! I love your sprinkles and sand collection! The sprinkles ones are so colorful and looks very yummy :)
Such a pretty post! And an amazing spice rack! It must have taken you ages to accumulate all of that!
yeah!!!!! super fun…and i love it! love the colors and the memories too!
I love your sand collection! My husband and I had a sand ceremony at our wedding, and only have a little of the sand from it (and a giant container for it), so we’re going to collect sand from our travels and add it to that one vessel.+
So sweet and colourful!!
I love, love, LOVE that sand idea! What an amazing display!
Inspiring.
I made something like this for Halloween. I filled some jars with weird candies and wrote labels such “Swamp Worms” or “Witches Berries”. Gifts for my niece.
This has been an idea of mine for quite some time. I have a HUGE collection of sprinkles. I haven’t been able to find the spiceless containers so THANK YOU VERY MUCH for the info. I love everything that you do. I’ve been a pastry chef for 3 plus years and you inspire me!!
Happy Blog-Anniversary.

Loving this great idea. All the bright colors are perfect for any kitchen!

wow your sand collection is awesome! what a great idea. where did you get all your sprinkles??
i love your site and your ideas! i too started a sand collection in bottles, however, 2 years after i collected my 1st bottle of sand from maui — in the middle of the night 2 of the bottles completely burst/shattered spontaneously — and glass was everywhere :( that discouraged me from collecting sand from my subsequent beach visits :( your collection is beautiful!
Holy crap I do this too with the sand. Have you ever been to black sands beach in Maui? It is my favorite sand jar that I have.
Beautiful photos (as usual) of the sprinkles, and what an inspiring, clever idea for the sand. It is so cool to see the difference in all the beaches. Thanks for sharing!
I ADORE your sanad collection! We started collecting sand every time we went to the beach, but never had a good container for it, so I gave up. I wish I had a FABULOUS idea like you did!
Ok, first of all, the sprinkles are so darling! How fun with all those bright colors.
And then you spring the beach sand on us. AMAZING!! How interesting of a display. I love it and am SO jealous!
okay the sprinkles are cool.
but i don’t know what is more cool – your idea to bottle the sand, or the fact that you’ve been to 100 beaches!! anyhoo, it looks totally awesome!!
That is the greatest idea about the sand in the bottles!
The sand is so cool! I only wish I had thought of it before our last 2 cruise trips!
Where did you get your bottles/jars that have the sand in them?
What a cool idea. I love the beachy bottles!
how very neat!
What a neat idea!
I love your sprinkle rack! I would love to have one in my kitchen, but my boys would always be raiding it. Out of site, out of mind!
I love the bottles of sand too, I brought some back from Mexico 10 years ago and had it in a little jar in my bathroom. It has since been spilled down the drain. My kids are just way to curious!
I love your blog, and have made cupcake bites a few times. They are always a big hit!
wow,beatiful,thanks
I love this! So cute, thanks for the inspiration.
Since you must love sprinkles as much as I do do you know where I can find the chocolate sprinkles that look square? Like the ones shown here?
http://www.flickr.com/photos/rkbcupcakes/2981481423/
I cna’t find them but maybe if I knew their name I could google them.
:-)
What a great idea!!! Your display is amazing!
Oh Wow I never thought about that. I have sand from a black beach in Hawaii and some for the White beach in Siesta Key Fla. That I was needed to find a way to display. That is a great idea
oh. my. God. what a clever clever idea! oh what i would give for a bigger kitchen to accomodate all the sprinkles the world has to offer!
If you want another spiceless spice rack withOUT having to transfer spices from jar to jar, check out the SpiceStack spice rack at SpiceStack.com. It holds 18+ bottles from the grocery store and takes up less space in your kitchen.
Happy Organizing!
My god! That is soooooo awesome! One of the coolest things I’ve seen in a while!!!! :D All those mini beaches in your living room :D
This is the cutest thing I have ever seen! I love it!!!
My husband collects sand also! I thought he was the only one! Love your blog.

ALL OF IT!
I LOVE the pretty bottles of sprinkles. AND I love the sand idea….I’m going to pitch it to my husband. Maybe we’ll steal it, I hope you don’t mind.
What a great way to “spice” up my kitchen. Where did you get those great heart shape candies??
That is truly a very creative idea, but what can I say to the queen of creativity….
Patty Miami,FL
while helping in my son’s second grade class I met one of his classmates and she was telling me of her collection of dirt! I thought it was pretty cute – she had dirt from a lot of different states! Can’t wait to see how it continues when she grows up….
That’s so neat. I love that idea.
why are you so cool?? lol

I love both ideas. My daughter would never leave me alone about the sprinkles though. I think the sand is a great idea, wow!
I love both “spice” racks! I think I want a sprinkles rack of my own!
Very cool.
Love the beaches collection! What a great idea!
Waaaay cool! And I thought sand was sand! Ok, now we have to see a pic of the whole living room… lounge chairs..? Gorgeous tanned men in place of the end tables holding your drink? {{{giggle}}}
Ok, that sand display is awesome! I love the sprinkles idea too. TFS!
I’m drooling. I’m a sucker for jars and tins and labels and shelving and symmetry and color… oh my goodness. GREAT photos. And I love the sand idea. I need to visit more beaches!
Wow! That’s awesome! Thanks for the tip.
I LOVE the sprinkles rack. What a great way to add some color to your kitchen!
My one bottle of sand is now used to hold up some fake orchids (blasphemous, I know) in a vase. It’s been a great way to show it without it just taking up space.
Wow Bakerella, I love these. I too have a thing for bottles and boxes. The problem is, I don’t know what to do with them. I love the sprinkles! The sand is also very cool, i wish I could say I’d been to that many beaches, but my sand collection would be very small.
Oh wow. I love the sprinkles. The sand, though, blows my mind! It’s amazing. Have you visited all of those beaches?
Isla Mujeres is one of my all-time favorite places. And my goodness, 100+ beaches? You are a lucky girl.
I love the beach display. I’ve been collecting sand and shells when we go to the beach, I didn’t think about displaying them in the living room. I may have to put up a new shelf just for beach jars.
That is so neat. I’m going to have to find that spice rack.
Ok, I really want a sprinkle collection too. You and my sister are the only two people in the world with a dirt collection. I have sent her dirt from EVERYWHERE! Hers is not so pretty. My brother-in-law will be so sad that the dirt collection will be coming into the living roon soon.
Thanks for the fun!
What a beautiful idea!
I love the idea of collecting sand from different locations and displaying them. Brillant. Make me wonder what I could collect?
Thanks again for another great idea
That is SO FUNNY!! I collect salt and pepper shakers for my dirt!!
I have a sand collection too!!
It’s way smaller than yours though- I love that yours is in your living room- mine is in the master bath-
great sprinkles idea- you amaze me!
Amazing ideas on your site. My mum sent me the link yesterday and I am hooked already.
I would also like to know where you got your spice rack/bottles for your sprinkles. I am in the middle of redoing my kitchen and as I am a cake decorator that would fit perfectly for me.
i love your beach “spice rack”! How original and creative.
Hi, just discovered your blog last night, and love it. Where did you find your spice rack?
Ok, it’s official…YOU are the MOST creative person EVER!! These are fantastic ideas – you are amazing – thank you for sharing them and inspiring US!
I love the sprinkle rack, such a cute idea! And the sand! I wish I had saved some from each spot I visited, I guess I’ll have to start now :-)
i am so doing that! GREAT IDEA!
How adorable!!
Wow, how cool, I love both the spice rack with the sprinkles but the sand what an amazing idea..
have you got samoa sand? I LOVE black sand. Confession: I love sleeping with sand in my bed to scrub around with my hands and feet. My hubby says he doesn’t mind it :) But the black sand my parents brought me isn’t abrasive enough for “scrubbing” because it’s sooo fine. It almost feels plush it’s so fine!
wow that is so creative! the sprinkles and the sand both look beautiful in those little jars!
I love your sand display. What kind of jars do you use for it?

VERY cool idea!
I have always wanted to do the beach sand display, but I need to visit more beaches! 2 bottles is really unimpressive.
WOW! Very cool! You are so creative!
Your sand display is so creative! It’s amazing how different each beach is…wow!
This is fabulous! I love texture & think the mix of the sand texture contained in the glass is smart!
I have a thing for jars, too, but never do anything with them! :) LOVE the sprinkle idea and if I went anywhere, I would try the sand. ;) That is cool!
Oh my, all those sprinkles!! Lovely!!
Howdy! I’m actually from Destin, FL but now living in Virginia. Let me know if I can expand your collection with some Virginia Beach sand. :)
That has got to be the best idea for a Souvenir. My gosh, sooo many beaches, so little time! LOL What’s a girl to do?
Pretty sweet and pretty smart. They are so colorful. Love the sand. You’ve been around, haven’t you?
that is so awesome! I love it. Your blog is so inspiring. I tried the pumpkin cookies you did but they came out so moist that once they cooled they stuck together really bad…they were still delish but I’m wondering if they should’ve cooked longer maybe?
Love the sprinkles display! Where did you find the spice rack? I must get one!
My bro-in-law is a pastry chef. It would be great to give him somehting like this for Christmas or birthday or when ever….
And the sand display! WOW you’re right. You’d never think that sand could be so different just because it was found on a different beach. What a clever way to display them.
wow, what an awesome idea! thanks for the inspiration!
Beautiful. I want to do that!
Mine are all in baggies in decorative lunch boxes. If it were up to me the entire kitchen would be covered in baking accoutrements.
I love your beaches.
I need some great bottles for all my spices, let alone all my sprinkles.
I love both those ideas!!
I love this idea…how pretty
I LOVE LOVE LOVE your sand collection. Everytime I visit a new beach–I always feel like I should take some sand or rocks home with me. My husband thinks I am crazy. I need to show him this…what a great way to display your collection!!

Oh I love this display! I have several jars around the house, but nothing so substantial. Wonderful.
I used to have a little bowl of pebbles collected from diffreent places. Your beach samples take things to a whole new level – that looks amazing!

AMAZING idea! I am in the process of redoing my kitchen…..now I want a sprinkles rack!
I love this!!! so how do you have the 100 bottles the same? you bought shares in a company or is it a standard bottle to be found everywhere??

you’ll have enough for your own beach soon!
